Food truck - there's parking on the street with parking meters. I recommend checking their IG to confirm the hours and location. There was a long line to order on a Saturday at noon. There are a few benches to eat outside. We ordered the (birria) red tacos ($12 for 3), $2 extra for the consome, and agua fresca ($5). The consome is a must and is enough to share for 2 orders of tacos. We did ask for light cheese and there was still a decent amount of cheese. There was a lot of meat and had a lot of flavor. The agua fresca was very refreshing and needed as the birria is heavy.
My fiancé and I found La Santa Torta via Yelp and decided to come here for lunch on a weekday. We came right at opening (noon), and there was already a line. The menu is small with about 4-5 food options (a veggie option too!), aguas, and soft drinks. I wasn't sure what to expect so we both ordered an order of the red tacos, consomé, and 1 order of the churros. The prices for everything is standard for the Bay Area - 3 tacos for $12, our total came out to roughly about $36. Although there was a lot of people waiting, our food was ready within 10 minutes or so. We got home in about 10 minutes or so and dug in. First off they are so generous with their meat portions in their tacos! The taco was still crispy on the outside and contrasted amazingly with the tender and juicy meat inside. When you dip the taco into the consomé, top it off with a squeeze of lime and some of their salsa verde - it is such an amazing combination! I've had a few other birria taco spots in the Bay Area, but I gotta say this one is my favorite so far. The tacos and consomé were not overly greasy or heavy but were still very rich and flavorful. I do wish you were able to order individual tacos instead of a set of 3 at once, just because sometimes it's just too much. The warm churros were the perfect end to our lunch. They were filled with dulce de leche and come with a dipping sauce as well. I opt'd to dip my churro in some condensed milk I had in my fridge and it was even better. Much to my wallet and stomach's dismay - it looks like I will be a regular here. I will also start bringing my friends and family here when they visit. Usually my fiancé isn't a fan of birria tacos, but even he loved these! The tacos are too damn good!
La Santa Torta was at Faction Brewing last Sunday and we ordered three separate orders of red tacos (3 cheesy birria tacos for $16) x2 and one torta. Our order took 45 minutes while we were standing in the hot sun, very little to no communication on order wait time, and then when we finally got the tacos they were underwhelming: not enough cheese, dry meat. Very disappointed in the wait time. This is my 3rd/4th time at the truck and usually the wait isn't so long. The consommé also continues to come in styrofoam cups with a plastic lid and that is an unsustainable option. Styrofoam lasts 500 years in the earth and cannot be recycled. Please switch to paper/compostable options!
You can't go wrong here! Veggie options, but best for meat eaters! I've had the following here and continue to recommend it for the birria tacos! They do not skimp out on the ingredients and you'll be sure to feel full and satisfied! Super flavorful and yummy! The flavor of the birria and consomé is undeniable. Reminds me of back home and all of the great pachanga parties! For those Elote lovers, get them cut and with hot Cheetos! Ugh. So satisfying when you'll getting the munchies. I'm a true Elote lover, so I def enjoy these from time to time. Churros?? They got you. Cajeta filled churros, mmm mmm mmm! Plus a ghiradelli caramel dip, all the goods. Agua de piña too! Don't go dry now! It's also not common to find small trucks that have agua fresca de piña. Wasn't super sweet as the usuals either! Also, got to try the noodles. Great idea, but not my fave unfortunately. This was only because I wasn't a fan of the noodles. Perhaps if they were udon style I would though. You'd have to try them to know. Anyways, they have veggie tacos tho, and also super filling and tasty! Tortas de birria (can make veggie too but they don't recommend it because they fall apart). Buen provecho!
I was working nearby and wanted something to eat while I had time to waste and I saw this truck next to nations.. on the corner of 4th and Broadway they have some metered parking nearby like most downtown areas. I ordered the birria torta being that they pride themselves on the item. It was on a French roll which I had to raise an eyebrow to. Kinda hard and crunchy bread but once dipped in the consome it softens up so I wont complain too much. They also provide 2 different small salsa cups and the green one caught my attention. Spicy and flavorful you have to eat it in a very specific way to get the full effect. Overpriced in my opinion but most food trucks are. I wouldnt say you'll be let down, they hold their own and are worth checking out. The biggest flaw to this business is the amount of tiny Nats flying on the entire corner. We're talking hundreds maybe a thousand that are just a cloud of bugs that have no regard to humans. I took about 5 with me to my work truck 125ft away and had to kill them while I waited for my food to be made. I had to be sure to rid myself of any bugs before opening my food container.
This review is for my view in Sept. 2020, on a hot hot day. I love the Birria taco. It was my first time trying this food trend, and I think it's going to get bigger in 2021. The Birria ramen was not on the menu, but I was pleasantly surprised when I was told they had it. To be honest, I recommend the birria tacos more. The crispy shell carries the fatty flavorful shredded meat with melted cheese. The ramen broth was a bit oily, and the texture of the noodle was too soft. Also it was not ramen noodle, but rather Chinese egg noodle (lost chewiness from overcooking). Tips: 1) Order online to avoid food selling out 2) Come early if you want to try the ramen 3) Bring some napkins or wipes to clean the table
This place is absolutely delicious!!! I have been meaning to try this place for the past 6 months now. It's so hard to find good, authentic birria tacos. I ordered the red tacos (slowly, marinated beef, with melted cheese, onions) inside a delectable grilled taco. They were SO generous with their meat, I was shocked. It was juicy, rich in flavor, yet still crispy on the outside. I of course, had to order their elote as well. Corn, mayo, Valentino hot sauce, crushed hot cheetos, and cotija cheese. I am so glad I ordered this because it was the best elote I ever had! I love supporting small businesses, especially when they are as delicious as this place. I will definitely be a regular here. Can't wait to try all their menu options.
I have to give a shout out to La Santa Torta. Yes, their birera are becoming legendary. What I am so pleased is the commitment and contributions to The Bay community. I met Leo Guzman, one of the co-founders awhile back. We were talking about his belief in feeding people who can't afford a nice, warm meal. La Santa has always done this. They and their trucks have even visited the farm workers many times in central California and shared many free meals with them. Excerpt from SFEatery (12/3/2020) "During the pandemic, the business has been making an impact as much through its charitable efforts as through its delicious tacos. Over the course of the past several months Guzman and Oblea have given away hundreds of free meals -- to down-on-their-luck folks in the neighborhood who needed a hot meal and, more recently, to undocumented farm workers who've been disproportionately impacted by this year's brutal wildfire season." This week my friend reached to me. Her newly rescued puppy got out and was missing. I posted a picture and notice on my Instagram asking for help. La Santa reposted my story to their 24.5K followers! During these trying times of the pandemic, we need to support local businesses that support our community as well! And them birria tacos are damn delicious!
I don't even live in Oakland and I would do the drive any day just to have these. I found them on ig by accident I said I have to get my hands on some of that and OMG! It was soooo good. 100% recommended
11-21-2020...4:p.m. My brutha @maycman mentioned to me 2day that this place was the bomb!!!...Of course rite then and there I booked marked it and continued or convo...A few hours later got the urge to try'em out...O'Boy was he rite... Don't walk...Run to La Santa Torta!!!...As a matter a fact I'm on my way!!! Less Talking...More Eating!!!
Key Points: - Delicious Birria Tacos - Small, simple menu - Nicely decorated truck The Mrs. and I ventured out to this truck because we wanted to try Birria Tacos for the first time. She's seen them on Instagram and wanted to join the bandwagon. Of all the places we saw on yelp, this was one of the best looking trucks. It's located in a parking lot next to the original Nation's Giant Burgers. One can't park in their private lot, but there was ample street parking. The food did not disappoint. Red Tacos ($12 for 3) - Comes with 3 per order, but we ordered an odd number of 5, which they honored. Juicy, savory, extremely rich, but a bit messy. Actually, very messy, as the bottom of our box left a puddle of fatty juice. We ate this in our car, so keeping the mess contained was a challenge. if doing the same, I'd recommend a food tray or a lot of napkins. These guys were super rich, and kept us satiated all day after eating this. We had this around 3PM, and didn't eat another meal before bed. Plus the Mrs. is eating for two ;) Consome ($2) - for an additional $2, I'd say it didn't quite please my pallet. Don't get me wrong, the flavor, just like that in the tacos, was AMAZING! But to me, it was actually the SAME flavor. So adding this to the already juice tacos was simply like adding "wetness." For some, that floats their boat. It makes for a great Instagram photo/story though, if you've seen the hype. For me, I probably wouldn't get it again. Rather, I'd put that extra money towards another taco. Elotes Chidos ($8) - The Mrs. loves elote. this one was rich and creamy, topped with those crunchy hot cheetos. I've never been a big fan of corn or elote, but I did thoroughly enjoy this side dish Churros ($7) - crispy sweet, topped with sugar, filled with dulce de leche AND comes with a side of dulce de leche dipping sauce. Though scattering sugar is always a problem with churros in general, this one didn't have as much of that problem. A great dessert to the tacos. Overall, a great experience. We're still going to venture around to try the other Birria tacos in the area though. I would definitely recommend coming here to try theirs.
The best birria tacos I've had so far. A bit pricey for a food truck, but not outrageous. If going for the first time, definitely spring for the consommé with your plate, it's super flavorful, but be warned, it's quite spicy.
3 stars because it was not that good for the pricing. If I went to "the hood" parts of Oakland the taco trucks ov there taste the same (maybe better) for a lower price. Not including names because iykyk. The elote was almost $8 never again will I be ripped off. Wasn't as good as the $4-5 elotes I had in the past. For the Beef Birria tacos a plate was almost $20... I was very full but still not as tasty for the price... it was good though wouldn't go back.
La Santa Torta was at Brix brewery on Sunday! We ordered the Quesabirrias and it was honestly like being transported back to Mexico City. I'm only giving this 4 stars because the consomé was room temperature and it should be served hot. read more
Caught them off W Grand and had to stop by. I've seen the truck everywhere but haven't had a chance to try. I ordered the Chile Relleno Torta and wow! I never thought to make it a sandwich but man was it good! The chile relleno was nicely seasoned and crisp. They had some additional toppings inside the toasted bread, as well as, a consommé on the side. I was in a rush so I just dunked the torta straight in and ate it that way. Brilliant flavors, generous portions and quick service. They didn't have drinks which was a slight bummer. Next time, I'll ask that the torta be cut in half and ask for some side jalapeños and cebollita to round off the flavorful tastes. Wi come back again. read more

Food -- was phenomenal! Eveything was hot and fresh. Very tasty and flavorful. Very authentic birria tacos. The taste was very much so there. Service -- the service was amazing! The lady was by herself handling the register and making food. 2 of her employees called off but not once did she complain. She handled that very well but did let customers know she was working alone for time purposes. She was great! Very attentive to everyone's needs and made sure everyone's food made it out promptly. Ambiance -- I loved the location and the ambiance of the restutant. It's located in West Oakland near train tracks and there's a brewery next door. Tons of parking. The inside is very pretty. Decorations and paintings inside. Love love this place! Def recommend people who want amazing birria. Oh and the churros are DELICIOUS! Yummm read more

Learned about this taco truck at a Yelp event last year. I remembered their amazing birria tacos and have been thinking about it ever since. Finally I decided to track them down recently to satisfy my craving. I placed an order of red tacos, consomé, and stir-fried birria noodles on their website. The process was easy: order and pay online in advance and then pick up in download Oakland. The food was almost as good as I remembered. The red tacos were tasty and fulfilling. The consomé was absolutely extraordinary! I could drink that thick beef broth all day everyday. The stir-fried birria noodles lacked a little flavor, however. So I poured some of the consomé over it. It did wonders. Next time, I will get the birria noodle soup instead. All in all, a one of a kind experience. The only gripe I have is that their hours are a bit inconsistent on Yelp, the website, and Instagram. Make sure to double check before placing an order. But deff give them a try! It is totally worthy!! read more
One of the things I wanted to make sure I experienced while visiting the West Coast was tacos. My daughter had taken me to another traditional taco truck and told me she found this business through a YouTube video. So we sought them out. This is truly truly a hidden gem because at first we didn't find them and had to go back on Instagram to figure out where they were. I'm so happy we were persistent because it was worth every minute. These are absolutely phenomenally incredibly delicious. The meat is tender, the flavoring is on point, the tacos are just crispy and not soggy, the dip I swear I could just bathed in it, and the Agua Fresca that goes along with it is just cool and refreshing and a perfect pairing for the food. Find your way to find them because you will be so happy you did and the next time I'm in the bay area this is high on the list of places that I will be fulfilling my culinary desires. read more
I got to try the birria tacos and elote in a cup from the food truck in Oakland! They were COVID safe and encouraged distancing in line and around the truck. We easily found parking on the street and there are wooden tables set up in front of the truck to eat at. The tacos were FULL of meat (almost too much?) at certain times I was just biting through meat. One order of tacos will definitely make you full! There is also a surprisingly very spicy after taste. I loved the crunch on the shell as well. The consome broth must be ordered on the side and is tasty (a little spicy) and doesn't come with pieces of meat in it. The elote left a lot to be desired. It was hard to eat as it was layered poorly, i would recommend trying something else if you want a side. They also don't have their full menu at this location and a few things on their menu, they were not making (churros). I feel there are better birria places in the Bay at a much better price (over $20 for tacos, broth, and elote). read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place. I first tried La Santa Torta at a Yelp event at East Brothers Beer Company in Richmond in 2019. I was captivated by the rich flavors of the birria meat and the wonderful but tolerable (for me) heat of the green salsa. Since then I've been to the truck in Oakland and back to their truck at East Brothers. I really like their red tacos aka quesabirria tacos. They aren't dry but the consome definitely complements them well. I've also had the joy of trying thru Birria Noodles and Stir Fried Birria Noodles. Both are really good and served with fresh egg noodles. I prefer the stir fry as it reheats really well and you get a good amount of meat. The customer service is great at both locations and I would definitely return to get my birria fix. read more

I was craving some birria this past weekend and found La Santa Torta on Instagram. They post their locations daily on IG, making it very convenient for us. Their 333 Broadway location had street parking available right next to their truck. Their prices are very fair and their food is bomb. I ordered the Red Tacos (3 tacos for $12) plus $2 for consome (broth). The tacos tasted fresh and the warmth of the food felt extra good in that crisp bay area wind. They have a few picnic tables available if you want to enjoy your food there. Will definitely be back for my birria cravings! read more
Got this place's birria tacos and churros! Yummy! Orders: - Red Tacos: the name of the birria tacos. Comes with three tacos with great flavoring! Nice portion of meat and cheese. - Consome: pretty light. Decent consome! Great to dip the tacos in here! - Churros: one order comes with four 4-to-5-inch churros. Filled with dulce de leche which was a nice surprise and came with a small side of dulce de leche. I think, because of the filling, the churros were light and yummy. Would get it again for that satisfying finish. Decent birria taco place! When I'm craving birria tacos again, I'll definitely have this place on my list. read more

These crunchy cheesy birria tacos are bomb.com. Im hungry just writing this as I reminisce my delicious time spent at this food truck near Jack London square. They call em' "red tacos". I legit would rather eat here than any fancy place near by. The tacos are crunchy and filled with plenty of meat and birria sauce that leaves your fingers red. Squeeze a lime and some green sauce and every bite is an explosion of Mexican flavor in YO MOUTH! But if that isn't enough for you they also have tortas and elotes. Please try the elotes-this hot Cheetos corn concoction with queso and mayo is freaking amazing. We scraped the cup to the last drop. I would marry them if I could! Dude you must come eat here if you even consider yourself a foodie!!! Like we say in the bay.. "HELLA GOOD". :) read more
Expectations were high after seeing their story and process on a Youtube video. Reality fell extremely short. While the service, speed, and price was nothing to raise a brow for, the level of grease and flavors in these birria tacos were...anticlimactic. The meat was almost hard to chew since the pieces were huge, consome was watery, had little spice, and little salt. The chips were from a bag. The churros? Way to sweet especially with the caramel. I appreciate that they're smaller in size though. Easier consumption. I would recommend though but if you're on a budget, a truck might do you a solid. read more
I was first introduced to this place at a Girl Gang convention out here in Iakland at the Scottish Rites Center. Without a doubt these are the best tacos I've had. I stepped out of the house after placing an order on their website. $12 for three birria tacos is absolutely worth it from here. I also tried their churros with caramel dip this time and it satisfied my sweet tooth. Finally, it's really nice of them to offer free food for the hungry during this time. I just want to add that if you're looking for their location for the day, follow their IG account. They're always announcing it on their stories and on their page for the day, and the post include their hours for each location. read more

Awesome food truck. A little bit more expensive than what I usually think of when I think of a taco truck, but I think the quality is definitely worth the price. The meat was tender and flavorful, and I liked both choices of salsa on the side. The red one has a good kick to it, and the green is milder but still yummy. I will note that they were a little messy to eat (like most tacos) so have napkins on hand. The elote chido was great as well, and comes as a pretty large serving. It was a bit creamier than the elote cupe I've had previously. There are benches in front of the truck if you want to eat outside, and an alright amount of parking (went on a Friday afternoon). I'll 100% be going back soon. read more
Tagalog word of the day... Kunsumi (coon-sue-meh) -- to annoy Wow!! Ohh Maahhh Gaaaassshhh!!! This is the best yet most dangerous thing to come by and learn about!! Ordered the RED Tacos and my oh my were they LA BOMBA! Good palm sized tacos! I ordered it with an additional side of consomé (con-sue-meh) not to be confused with kunsumi -- because this is the best added option a person could ask for with a deep fried taco! Consomé is this gravy soup made and meant for taco dipping! Sooo delicious -- it adds variation of texture and flavor to a fried taco... you can take a regular bite, a salsa'd bite or a soupy slurpy bite... all with one taco! Not only that -- aside from yumminess -- great service! I was concerned that they deep fried their tacos in lard... like some places do this for gorditas and it being a main thing for pupusas... I have stomach issues when things are made with lard... and the truck cooks assured me they cook only with vegetable oil! That definitely pushed me to buy from them! The only reason I couldn't give a full 5 stars is because, They were out of Churros and the Elotes Chidos... which I wanted to order. Also because I didn't like that I was forced to buy 3 tacos off bat... it would have been nice to make the order per taco instead... I ended up with one taco left over and eating it the following day wasn't so great ((shoulder shrugs)) -- This won't stop me from being a return customer though! So if you're in search of tacos but DIFFERENT type of taco, this is your spot! read more
The best birria "red" tacos in Oakland! Seriously. I forget to check in and write a review because I'm usually stuffing my face with their deliciousness. The tacos are beef, comes with cheese (some places don't include cheese but they do!), cilantros and onion. The green salsa they provide adds an extra burst of magical flavor with every bite. You get 3 huge tacos for only like $10 and it's worth hunting down their next location for. I use to search high and low and be hella happy to see them somewhere i was at. It gets tricky locating a moving food truck but this jack london location has been a win on having easy access to these tacos. You can also follow their IG for location updates but this yelp schedule so far hasn't been a let down. read more
I've been trying birria places since it got big in the Bay Area, and I went in a little skeptical of the legendary La Santa Torta - I mean could it really stack up to the frontrunner that is Corazon Mexicano? But damn it really does! This is definitely the best birria I ever had, so ok, the legend is justified. They don't make it easy to find though - if it's not at 333 Broadway, you can find it in a weird industrial area at 95 Linden. Worth the hike though. I know I'll be back. read more

This review is based on a one time visit, when the truck was in Jack London area at a taproom. I like this set up since you can sit and eat, plus get an adult beverage. A great food truck with some equally great food options. I was able to enjoy the following: 1. Elote - pretty packed with flavor and HOT CHEETOS 2. The Fries - or the time period (around 12-4pm) there was an offer of Brunch style which included a fried egg 3. Red Tacos - just one word BOMB 4. Churros - which are a little bigger than bite size Overall: Those Red Tacos are bomb! Probably my favorite thing on the menu beside the churros, that's a given. I would definitely approach this truck if there is a lineup of trucks. read more

The owner/manager of this place is totally dishonest. I placed an online order through their website and I selected the Jack London location as the pickup spot. He called and had the nerve to blame me saying I didn't select a location to pick up and when I told I actually did, he told me that the Jack london location was closed for the day. I guess he was trying to save face than outright admitting his incompetence. So i had to drive all the way to west Oakland to pick up my order. When I got the food, I discovered that the consomé and churros were missing. I brought this issue up to him and he said he was going to issue me a refund which he never did. I contacted him again through text and he just completely ignored me. What a joke of a business owner. read more

One of my good friends found this place while watching a YouTube video. I never heard of this place until recently and once I tried it I knew it was going to be my new go to spot for red birria tacos! What I ordered: Red Tacos & Consome The order came with 3 red tacos which had slow cooked meat, onions, cilantro, and cheese. The consome does not come with the red tacos so make sure to order that as well. Rating: 5/5 The red birria tacos were so fresh and still had the crunch to the tortilla. They are quite generous with how much meat are in the tacos. When I first bit into the taco it was juicy and had such good flavor. There was not too much cheese that overpowered the tacos which was nice. Everything balanced out and tasted very good together even with the consome. read more

My fiancé and I came here during the weekend for the birria tacos (me) and torta (him). The tacos were wonderfully juicy and cheesy and had a good flavor. What really set it over the top was adding their green salsa to everything. That is the star of the show! My fiancé somewhat enjoyed the torta, but also felt it needed the green salsa to really set it off. We really enjoyed their strawberry Agua frescas. They're definitely a must if you come here. Overall is it worth a try? Sure! Just don't forget to add their green salsa! read more
