One of the best tacos I've had in the bay! I was thrifting around Oakland on a Saturday and saw this food truck and decided to stop by. I got the el pastor and asada tacos and they were incredible!! The service was relatively quick too and the owners super nice. Can't wait to stop by again next time I'm in Oakland!! read more

I've had their tacos from here a few months ago and recently a burrito. Both the tacos and burritos are really good. Good portions for both. They have lots of other things on their menu as well. They do accept credit card and I believe the sign said you need to spend a minimum of $5 to use the credit card option which is nice since a lot of places are cash only. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for some tasty Mexican food in this neighborhood read more

I wasn't too impressed with the food at Tacos El Melon. They are parked right in front of the Planet Fitness lot on MacArthur. I tried their regular tacos, quesabirria tacos, and a quesadilla. I arrived around 5:45pm, but they oddly started closing up right after I got my food even though their posted hours said they were open until 7pm. As for the food itself, the meat was disappointingly tough and chewy, like a jerky texture. I'm usually all for a greasy taco, but these were excessively greasy and felt overly heavy after one bite. The quesabirria tortillas didn't even seem like they had been dipped in the consommé, which took away from the flavor and texture I was expecting. read more

Asada tacos were flavorful and the serranos were HOT! Don't miss out on the habanero salsa. Service was smooth. There is no seating since it is a taco truck. And it's right outside of a planet fitness which is straight comedy! We were told today since it's raining they are allowing folks to call in orders. My daughter's dance studio is near this taco truck. Finally tried them. Deliciosa! I got two tacos; tripas and carnitas. They were super tasty and I like how they give you some sides (pickled jalepnos, carrots and radish slices). Service was friendly and quick. And prices are reasonable for tacos. I've only ordered burritos from them, but they are good. Also love that they throw in free escabeche (pickled jalapenos and carrots). El Melón tip: They don't (at least not as of this post) have guacamole, so if you want some, be sure to ask for them to add avocado. read more

Good food and amazing service! I go to the near by gym and I've always wondered about this place for a few years now. I finally took the chance and went there to finally try it out. Plenty of menu options without getting overwhelmed. I have tried them twice now and I was happy with both experiences. I had the burrito and tacos de al pastor. I recommend both! Savory and not dry. I work as a volunteer for the White Elephant Sale in Oakland and this food truck is always stationed outside during the time of our sale. I fell in love the first time I ordered a taco... I am a taco aficionado of sorts. I go to Mexico every year and all I do there is eat tacos and ceviche... Tacos El Malone has fabulous street tacos, my favorite is the fish. Their burritos are equally wonderful. I've had several of the meat burritos and they have all been wonderful. Also, the staff that mans the truck are just wonderful and welcoming, efficient, and attentive to detail. I'm not sure they may be the owners. But regardless, they are to be commended. The taco truck has conveniently appeared outside our OMCA White Elephant Warehouse during our sale days! They have been welcomed with open arms by the hungry hoards of shoppers and volunteers for our February public sale days. Many of the volunteers have recommended it to other volunteers, and the taco truck is definitely a great dinner source since we're often too tired to cook after dealing with the hundreds of customers we encounter. This might be the last weekend that we'll see the food truck, since it's the culminating BLOWOUT sale where we expect more that 2000 shoppers each day (March 2 and 3). Hopefully the taco truck will visit us on our Volunteer work days when we resume operation in May. Wonder if we can get their schedule of where they'll be from here on....... Oh... the food! LOVE their shrimp burritos!! Their quesadillas and tacos are wonderful too! That's all I've had a chance to try. Hope to try more options soon! read more

Where can you find excellent tortas in Oakland? Taco el Melon The carnitas torta with the slightly crispy pork carnitas is my favorite. Decent verity of Mexican sodas like Manzanita Sol and Jarritos. I like that tho location is on a cul-de-sac part of the street with plenty of parking looking into interstate 880. Perfect bite for breakfast or lunch at decent prices. read more

New fave taco truck and that says a lot since I live near foothill and high where there's an abundance of tacos available. Tortillas for the tacos come out slightly crispy, meat is tender and perfectly seasoned, salsa is delicious and service is the best. Solid taco truck on MacArthur in the Diamond District. Friendly, quick service and more importantly delicious food. We had a Torta Al pastor (jalapeños and guacamole included) and three tacos - quessabirria (they don't serve with consome), Al pastor, and chiccarones with pico de gallo. All were tasty and will make a point of stopping by whenever we're near. Definitely worth a trip and a bonus is not being asked for money every few minutes like some of my other favorite taco truck locations. read more

Super friendly business and very accommodating, always incredibly happy to be supporting a new and local business as it's not easy to run a food business these days. Btw, I found them at the 29900 Mission Boulevard location by the Chevron, jsyk! The tacos are great for their price, it's awesome to see a wide variety of different meat cuts from a taco truck. The quesabirria itself was a bit too bland for my personal taste, but the birra soup and green salsa are both well-seasoned. Overall flavoring, I'd give it at solid 3.5/5. Absolutely not. wish yelp had 0 stars they're too nice. This place threw my tacos together maybe because of the color of my skin he thought i don't know how a birria taco is supposed to look and taste like. But serving me this oily food was wayyyy out of line. I wouldn't feed this to a stray. Like cmon you wouldn't even eat this. DONT RECOMMEND. And the food looks NOTHING like the pictures. read more

Clean bright yellow food truck located on MacArthur at the Planet Fitness. Friendly service and burritos (all super) are $13 but nice sized. I would say that's a standard Bay Area price so they can keep their business going! Depending on your appetite, you will likely get a second meal out of it. Al pastor was outstanding, home made tortilla, and the fillings were distributed proper. My wife loves the pollo azado. They give you a ton of pickled jalapeños and radishes with your order. I was across the street a bit hungry and crossed to see what they had. I saw they had. They have the usual when it come to menu in different places. What they had Extra was burrito bowls which did seem interesting to me since not many trucks do that. I always end up doing the same thing every time I go to a new truck and try out different meats. For me it's just meat and cheese. I ordered 6 tacos 2 asada 2 lengua and 2 chicharon and lengua and asada was good not to salty but the chicharonnnnn now that was bomb. Many places I've been to either it's too soft and chewy were it feels like you are chewing gum or to hard. This was crunchy and soft and I didn't get that too much salt taste either. Decided to check it out when I was filling up on gas at Abe's in Union City. I had the pork taco and burrito, both were tasty and the burrito was massive. Sauces they served on the side also gave it a nice touch. The horchata was also good, not overly sweet. Really quick service and food still tasted fresh; not stale, even though I ordered late at night. Definitely will be getting some more taco next time I'm around. read more

I got a chicken burrito. Meat comprised most of the filling! The chicken was not dried out and was flavorful. It had a selection of red or green sauce in the burrito but no extra sauce. The service was quick. The menu posted on the truck only had types and prices for tacos, I had to ask about the burritos. I'll be back to try some of their other items. read more

We are two Latino brothers starting our own food truck business after each working for different restaurants for the past 20 years. Prices are pretty high here for tacos and beer - but being required to pay the same tip as for (non-existent) table service is just a step too far. To be clear: they will bring your food out to your table (you get a number) but nobody returns to check on your meal or to ask if you want anything else. You still have to walk into the restaurant from the outdoor dining area to place your order and pay for it at time of ordering. Tipping in ADVANCE is not a reward for good service - it's compensation for a poor business model in a society that doesn't properly value workers.

The beans were so flavorful, most likely the best I have had in a burrito (and that includes San Diego). I liked that they grilled the burrito after it was rolled. The salsa was also fresh. My only complaint was the actual shrimp, which were overcooked and tasted a little like the meat from the grill. The guac was also really fresh and plentiful. $11 for a burrito, $3.50 for a taco. I will be back soon.

Do you know how The Cheesecake Factory has a massive menu with 200 items, none of which are done well? This is the exact opposite. They do one thing--Puebla-style al pastor, cooked on a trompo--and they have completely mastered it. The al pastor was cooked to perfection--not oily or greasy at all (which some places struggle with). The meat-to-tortilla ratio was spot-on, and the pineapple chunks were fresh, a real treat, and perfectly proportioned. A really nice touch is that the plate came with a flat tostada shell, so you can scoop up any filling that falls out. They offer two types of salsa picante: Salsa roja - Flavorful and seriously spicy Salsa verde - Milder but still delicious One word of caution: onions with habanero slices are on the tables. They are delicious but go slow--I overdid it and had to take a break. The stand has plenty of seating, it's very clean, and the people running it are super friendly and happy to answer questions.
