We got tacos, fish and shrimp, and spent the rest of the weekend talking about just how good the food is. Unfortunately the flavor and quality isn't up to industry standard. Maybe for their sake, it would be a good move for them to come closer to the Lake or East Oakland. I feel for the ladies working this truck. They are constantly being cussed out and spoken to disrespectfully, at least when I'm there. So I can see how the food quality could drop. Kind of like if my wife constantly treated me bad. Would I give my best knowing that it won't be appreciated anyway? That being said the other day I ordered a couple of burritos. I asked for shrimp and steak on both. It took nearly 30 minutes to make those two burritos, and it wasn't even that busy. After we received the burritos, my wife and I ate them, and I must say they just aren't that good. Edible. But not that good. Plus the shrimp was nearly non-existent. But like I said, I think under the right conditions this truck could be comparable to the other great taco trucks in Oakland. But the way people who frequent this taco truck treat these ladies breaks my heart. No one should receive that type of verbal abuse and threats. So if you do decide to try Chile Bravo. Be polite. My go-to taco truck in West Oakland - think it's noticeably better than nearby Tacos La Perla (which isn't bad). Highly recommend this spot if you live in the area or don't want to make the trek to East Oakland. Regular street tacos (onions & cilantro) are ~$2.50 each but are LOADED with meat. I've tried most of the meat options (asada, al pastor, pollo, cabeza, lengua, suadero), and they are all really flavorful / well-cooked, with the al pastor edging out asada as my personal fave. 3-4 tacos are probably sufficient for the average appetite. There are "deluxe" versions available as well (sour cream, cheese, avocado, etc.). Another plus (esp. as an LA transplant) - they have great CALIFORNIA burritos! Not sure of any other places in the Oakland area with this. The steak and shrimp burrito, on the other hand, was just alright... a little too sour cream and filler-heavy for me. They also take credit card for payment. While I don't think lines are outrageously long (yet), operations can be slow at times. But definitely give Chile Bravo a try - yummy tacos await! read more

My grandmother introduced me to this burrito truck. They are parked in a parking lot and the day we went to pick up food was pretty cold so I decided to call in my order on the way there. They picked up after a few rings and took my order and gave me the total. It took me about 5 minutes to get there and when I arrived I made sure to make my payment. They will start your order once payment is received. You cut some time by calling it in, I only waited about 5 minutes for 1 burrito deluxe with steak and a chicken quesadilla. Make sure to ask for peppers and salsa because they don't automatically put it into your bag. The area is a little sketchy, but it is well lit. There is a line so make sure to ask if the person next to you is waiting to order so you don't cut the line. The food was delicious, flavorful, and most importantly moist. Let's be real - if you want an amazing taco truck, you have to head out to International Drive. That said, if you're in West Oakland and jonesing for taco truck tacos, these aren't bad at all. West Oakland and Downtown has a few taco options. You've got the bougie tacos from Belly and Cosecha, which are delicious but definitely not street tacos. You've got Burrito Express and Happy Burrito, but those are just okay. Somewhere in between are Xolo and I guess El Gusano (which I've literally never seen open). But if you want taco truck tacos in West Oakland, this is the spot. For $1.75 you get the classic two corn tortillas filled with the meat of your choice, onion, cilantro and salsa. Even the Mild has plenty of heat to it for us gringos. I generally get 4 with Suadero (flank steak), Cabeza (cheek meat), Pollo (chicken), and of course al pastor (marinated pork). They include a variety of pickled and grilled veggies and radish. This generally runs me about $7.25 total. Don't forget the Jarritos or Mexican Coke! They also have a variety of burritos and nachos, and I have been curious to try a burrito, but I need to make sure I'm prepared for something like that. So if you find yourself in West Oakland and craving street tacos, I can recommend this place. Though I wouldn't take it over Tacos Sinaloa or one of the trucks on I-Drive. read more

This place is my go-to when I don't feel like cooking or am just having a chill day at home. Super fast and convenient, plus their food is amazing. Deluxe chicken burrito is where it's at. The avocado they throw in is always perfectly ripe, and there's never any weird chewy bits you sometimes find in burritos. They sometimes run out of chicken later in the evening, so if that's your meat choice try to get there by 6. So glad I got hungry in a different part of town than I'm usually in! Food was amazing, we tried 4 deluxe tacos and a burrito. The pollo had a kick, carnitas were crispy and delicious, and the al pastor was perfectly seasoned. The carne asada wasn't my favorite of the four, but definitely no complaints. The burrito was a purposeful combination of flavors and textures, not just a mush of carbs. I didn't see any prices on the menu (went at night, so they could be there somewhere), but it ended up being $23 for four generously filled deluxe tacos and a very reasonably sized deluxe burrito. Two of these will fill me up. - Maybe the most satisfying burrito I've ever had. These burritos go from tame to wild, and damned gluttonous either way. Opt for meats that are more solid than ground, since otherwise the burritos can get pretty wet! - In love with the lengua tacos. The lengua is super succulent and soft, the way lengua should be. - The hot sauce is actually hot! And with the perfect roasted flavor. And speaking of hot, you can get whole jalapeños with your order, which I'll take big bites of when eating their tacos. - Flour tortilla tacos! You don't find them in California, but they're classic in Tex-Mex. I can't get the tried and true breakfast taco here, but chicharrones on a flour tortilla take me a little closer to home. read more
