Update! The manager Danny reached out to me and asked me to come by to try their famous barbacoa with consome. I'm SO glad he did because it was literally the most flavorful barbacoa I ever had. If you want to try something different (stewed meats) you've gotta come here! Get the consome with MEAT (con carne) their menu is still for the most part in Spanish, as most of their patrons are Spanish-speaking. But don't be shy, they were super hospitable. The tacos are BIG! Two tacos + a consome (soup) was filling for me. Great meal to warm up on a cold day. They have covered seating now too. Give them a try if you want to expand your taco taste buds beyond carne asada. ------------------------ Kind of hidden little place. Maybe I did it wrong and should have ordered a Barbacoa taco but I got a pierna (leg) one instead cause I ordered consumé de Barbacoa thinking I could try two meats. One word to describe this place "WOW." The food was honestly beyond our expectations. We were looking for something near by to eat and we came across Pipirin. WET TACOS. THAT'S NOT EVEN A DOUBLE ENTENDRE. So good. Rating Breakdown -- 2/2 Stars for Taste: My sister and I got a barbacoa taco each and then shared a pierna and a chicharrones taco. I've never had wet tacos (ahogadas?) before, but man! They're like extra juicy tacos. Make sure to grab a sturdy plate and plenty of napkins. My sister and I both couldn't decide if we liked the barbacoa or the pierna better. We expected the chicharrones to be crispy, but it was kind of soggy and chewy. Meh. We also shared a small cup of consumé, SO SALTY AND DELICIOUS. Definitely made you kind of wish you had a cup of water though...or milk tea. 1/1 Stars for Value -- It's $3 per taco, which is a little pricier than Taco Sinaloa down the street, but the tacos here are a bit bigger. What can I say of this place, I grew up eating here ever since I was 5yrs old. Right After Mass my family and I would cross the street and come and eat here. My mother is from Guadalajara, mind you as soon as we land at the Airport, that's the first thing we seek out. We head to the Tiangis to savor some Tortas. I've eaten my way through GDL and from my experience, this place is spot on just like the motherland back home. My personal favorite is Torta Ahogada de Barbacoa It's a certain way you have to request it. Cause if you requested Ahogada they pour their hottest sauce over the torta and it'll be to unpleasant to eat because is hella, I mean hella spicy. In my house hold we love spice my dad is from Michoacán and we grew up eating the most spicy food ever up to a point that you get an ulcer pain. But not even my father that loves legit spicy food, he can't match the level of spicy the sauce is. Therefore, ask for a media Ahogada. One half has the spicy sauce and the other half a tomato oregano sauce on the other. Overall I can go on and on about this place and how there food is so scrumptious but it's best for you to get your own experience. My experience has been nostalgic for the past 23 years and no matter what city and state my Engineering career takes me, I still come back to here and only here when I don't travel to GDL. read more

I came here yesterday for the first time, already knowing what I wanted to order: a torta ahogada with barbacoa. The lady in the kitchen warned me that the sauce was spicy and asked if I'd like to have it half dipped instead. Dip it all the way! I replied. The sandwich was ready within a couple of minutes, topped with plenty of spicy sauce and white onions. The lady knowingly handed me a thick stack of napkins, and I took a seat at one of their picnic tables. I picked up the dripping sandwich and dug in. The bread was warm and retained the perfect amount of crustiness, despite being soaked in sauce. The meat was juicy and tender. The pickled onions provided a hint of freshness and crunch. That sauce was definitely spicy, but nothing I couldn't handle without a cold drink on the side. I'll be back to try the barbacoa and pierna tacos, along with the consome! read more

I've been eating here since I was in the womb. Literally this was one of my moms pregnancy cravings. We used to eat here when it was a little cart down the street right in front of the post office! After much deserved success the owners purchased the parking lot and are now calling it home. The items that speak to my soul are anything de pierna. Tacos de pierna, torta de pierna, tostada de pierna. Nothing better. Tip for the torta: Get the torta covered in salsa and add your own Chile, so you still get the wetness but don't burn your butthole lol The consomé is on hit on a cold day. Don't expect big chunks of meat or anything like that. The consomé is about the juice, the broth IS the dish, anything else is just a bonus. The below is a copy and paste from my review of Pipirin as they are the same place. The menu consists of tacos, tortas, tostadas, and consome. I opted for two tacos de barbacoa ($2.50 each) and a consome with meat ($2). The meat on the tacos was really delicious and the toppings available surprised me because they have home grown chiles available to eat with bites. Really authentic like. My only gripe is that the tortilla to meat ratio is OFF. This places uses two yellow large [read standard] (about 6 inch) tortillas, where the meat amount is much more justified for the small tortillas typical in other taco places. The consome was lacking flavor but the with meat option doesnt disappoint. The meat is served in abundance unlike the taco. Note there are no tables and everything must be eaten ala Mexico standing or on a chair with the consome on the floor. This does make it difficult if you aren't used to it. I heard some frequent customers ask the lady for empanadas , so if you arrive on a good day it seemed like those were a go to option as a small dessert. Near by there are also lots of stands like churros or fruit that make this place a good place to visit. In summary, the meat was 5 star worthy but the consome made with canned garbanzo beans and abundance of tortilla drag it down. read more

I was in the area so I stopped by today and got both barbacoa and pierna tacos as well as the consomme. I would've preferred a grilled tortilla, these were large yellow corn tortillas I think. I liked the pork better than the beef since the beef tasted a tad bit over-braised, loosing some of its beefiness. But they were both really tender and generous portions. I didn't get any lettuce on my pork taco like Ann L, just raw onions and cilantro. The consomme is really tasty and quite spicy, pretty comforting soup for a cold day. There was a younger girl taking orders who spoke English and was very friendly. She said she preferred the pierna as well. She also described the consomme, as the soup of the pork. I'm not sure if she was mistaken, but the broth is quite deep in flavor, closer to a beef broth than pork. Did I mention it's quite spicy? read more

So I've been making my trips around each little taco stand every taco Tuesday. Yesterday I made my way here after reading about the barbacoa. What this taco place lacks in amenities they certainly make up for in flavor. The meat was juicy and perfectly cooked. I agree with a prior statement regarding the tortillas being too big but if you can't get over that you can certainly find another option close by. The one thing that makes this place unique: the juice. The succulent juice that comes with the meat makes these tortas borderline addictive (I've gone twice this week).
