    Soy Sauce Ramen

Wanted to stop by for ramen near my hotel and stumbled upon this place. The place was a little small but it had a cozy feeling to it. Our server was really nice and thoughtful. He also sort saved my friend from getting something that exceeded his spice tolerance, so we were all very thankful for that :'D As for the food, I got the Soy sauce ramen and found it quite tasty. It wasn't too salty or anything and the booth was smooth. I would come back again to try their other ramen if I am in the area.

Went to the closest touhenboku near me with my girlfriend to go get something to eat. We love the karaage don, so we thought we would try some at this touhenboku and see if it was as good as we remembered. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the sweetest woman who gave us a menu and some water. She was very patient with our orders, even when we needed some more time/ didn't know how to pronounce the products. The gyoza tasted just the same as the last place that we were, but the rice on the karaage don tasted a little sweeter than usual. Still tasted good, but just a little different. Overall, I would come back- more for the nice woman than the food itself :)

For anyone who loves ramen but can't have pork, this is a great place for chicken broth ramen! It's a convenient walk from Eglinton station (so many cute shops to stop by on your way over) and the staff were so nice and friendly. We didn't have to wait for a table at all, granted it was around 2PM on a Monday. The food wasn't super quick but also didn't take too long to arrive either. I went for the black miso ramen which was so yummy, but could've been just a little on the hotter side. I think they wanted to bring out everyone's bowls at the same time though so definitely understandable. The karaage was also juicy and crispy. Very nice!! Thanks for a great lunch!

I had the Red Spicy Ramen. They give you a good amount of protein compared to other ramen places. I chose the pork belly for protein and it was fall apart tasty. The broth wasn't spicy at all in spite of its name, it was more of a creamy pork base with sesame oil and chili oil on top. The broth was good enough that I wanted to drink the whole thing, but not good enough to be a stand out. I may return to try the other flavors.

Great gem in the Yonge and eglinton area! Tried this place with a friend. I wanted to have ramen and it was a toss up between Kinton (which was around the corner and can never go wrong) or this new place. We decided on trying a new place and I'm so glad we did! The spicy (red) thin ramen noodle with pork belly was spot on!! The unique chicken broth (instead of the more popular and usual pork based broth) was super tasty, slightly smokey, lighter tasting and not overly salty. The pork belly char siu was thinly sliced , similar to the hot pot type, instead of a thick slab that you may get from other ramen restaurants. But it was still good. Haha, I usually forget if I like the thick or thin noodle, but definitely order the thin! It's got a great bounce and texture to every bite. Moreover they make their own noodles in house! I loved whatever combination they had in the spicy red noodle set!! So good!!! If you like spicy of for it!! It's not tooooo spicy and it has Just the Right level of spice and taste!!! your taste buds will thank you hehe :) My friend ordered the black garlic noodle set. The broth was tasty, thick and rich in garlic flavour. MmmmMmmmMmmmmmm. When you order the extra meat option, there is more variety with pork belly and pork shoulder. I'd also recommend a thin noodle with this one. Given that my friend finished this in minutes and was debating drinking the soup after, I can confidently say this dish was super tasty! We also ordered a fried chicken don. The fried chicken was not very crispy and could not compare to the amazing ramen. I would order a different one next time. Overall, I was impressed by food quality at Touhenboku ! Ambiance was great and was not overly loud or crowded. I loved how there are bottles and bottles of liquor (sake in this case) decorating the walls. :) I would definitely go back here again when I'm in the area! Loved it! :))

This. Was. Good!! Surprisingly good! I've only ever had veggie ramen, and this broth was very flavorful! My only critique would be I wish the tofu was cubed, breaded and fried like they show in the pictures versus how it came as you can see.... Other than that this hot the spot on all levels - great texture for the ramen, spicy but flavorful broth and not too salty! I dunno if other locations are just as good? For a spot that's Midtown it delivered above my expectations.

It was rainy on our trip. We had just had Japanese pancakes at Fuwa and thought we'd get Ramen since they were so close. I had the black garlic ramen and he had the spicy ramen. They were good but not magical. Fine.

"ah, such a shame...the spicy karage chicken is SO good... would've given it a 4.5 by itself" What time we arrived/Wait time? Arrived on a Thursday evening! There were many spots available. Atmosphere? Beautiful. Nothing too fancy but very clean. Service/Staff? Kind and attentive. One server for the whole restaurant on not busy days I'm guessing. Food/Menu/Pricing? The food is good. There is a set dinner special that is around $19 and it comes with a full size appetizer, ramen and dessert (mochi ice cream, mango pudding, coffee jello or something like that). It's a good deal but the ramen's soup base is SO thick. It feels heavy and not appetizing after ten or so bites. You feel kinda gross. I wish it were lighter and more fresher tasting. The appetizer was really good though. You can't go wrong with the karaage!

I wanted some soup for a sore throat. A friend and I decided to try this aa We were close by and the menu looked nice. It has a good seating area and the servers are very attentive. Between us we ordered for a spicy chicken karrage(8.99) and a kimchi soup in chicken broth with chicken(12.99). The food was delicious. The soup was a relief for the throat. I tried a piece of chicken and would have liked to eat more had my throat not been hurting. Food was delicious and is a definitely must visit. Evenings are a better time as there are less patrons and mostly lunch hour is crowded. It is economical and the food and the portions are very good. Will be back with the husband.

Was meaning to check out this ramen shop in my neighborhood because we usually go downtown for our noodle fix. Looking at the photos and reading some great reviews, I was very excited (and obviously had high expectations); however, Touhenboku disappointed me. We ordered gyoza as an appetizer; I would skip these. When they came to the table, they looked delicious. After one bite, all I could taste was water; the meat filling was quite bland as well. They're frozen and just microwaved so the texture was rubbery. As my main, I ordered the ramen + donburi set. The garlic flavored ramen with 'thick' noodles was 'meh' for me; the menu raved about the strong garlic flavor and how it's a Touhenboku classic. I'm a huge fan of garlic and found my ramen to be underwhelming. For the donburi, I ordered the chicken karaage bowl. It was bland tasting fried chicken drenched with mayonnaise over plain rice. All in all, the one word that describes the food here - b l a n d. We went for a late-ish Saturday lunch at around one o'clock. The restaurant was not too packed; there were maybe 2 or 3 other patrons so the staff:patron ratio was definitely in our favor. Anyway, the service was terrible. It was quite slow to begin with. Once finished our meals, we waited for our server to return because I wanted to order the mille feuille. I said 'excuse me' to one server; she saw me and just walked off. 'That's rude,' I thought, but I gave this person the benefit of the doubt. Another server passed by my table and again I said 'excuse me'. He saw me as our eyes met, but he too just walked off. Finally, another server came by after about an additional 10 minutes of waiting. In this time, we managed to stack all our plates and place them on the side of the table. The restaurant is quite small so it's not like we were hidden in a corner. The food was 'meh' and the service was so bad that I don't think there's a reason for me to return.

My first experience in this ramen joint was good. Easy to spot location, clean, friendly staff. It wasn't busy when I went on a Sunday for lunch at around 1pm. I enjoy chicken ramen broths because they tend to be less rich than tonkotsus. I like both broths in general actually. I ordered the lunch ramen special that includes a buri: black garlic ramen with thick noodles and karaage on rice. Noodles were not mushy, the pork was tender and juicy, and broth was balanced with the strong garlic and lightness of chicken broth. I love garlic so hands down for the garlicky taste. One star down for the egg. It was not as soft boiled as what I expected. The chicken was juicy and tender. A lot of kewpie mayo though but that can be easily scraped off. No biggie. I didn't finish my rice because I wanted to finish my ramen. Definitely eating here again. I like their menu setup a lot for mix and matching.

Watched almost every move by the cooks.

With so many ramen houses in Toronto, one really needs to be at least 4 stars to stand out. Unfortunately, they're one star short for me to go out my way to visit. Their soup base with half the sea salt was fine. Full dosage of any one of the three (miso and soy sauce) would have been unbearably salty. The soup base lack substance. The overbearing miso detracted from what a good soup base ought to be. The noodles was just ok. Nothing amazing, but not that bad either (I've had worse, so it's well worth the 3 stars).

It is nice to see that the newest location of Touhenboku Ramen trying to expand their menu during dinner time to includes Izakaya style item. However, most of those we ordered were a miss or just so so. We shared: Eggplant with Minced Pork ($6.95) - Meh Chinese dish? Ebimayo ($9.50) Shallow Fried Prawns with Spicy Chipotle Sauce - The batter just super thick Karaage-Negimabushi ($7.50) Deep Fried Crispy Chicken Marinated in a spicy Scallion Sauce - The Best dish compared to others that we ordered Godzilla's Egg ($6.50) Deep Fried Ground Beef Ball with Soft Boiled Egg - Meh, but the idea is interesting For Ramen we tried the Red Miso Soup based ($10.50+$1.50) which was delicious and the noodle has a good bite. For dessert we shared the Millie Crepe ($5.50) which was good but the Dense Chocolate Cake ($5.50) tasted so dry and hard. It is good that Touhenboku trying to offer other option aside from Ramen but for the time being I would say it is not working.... I would stay with their ramen. And maybe the patrons knows, as no other tables order anything else but noodle! Service though was excellent!

My friend had the King of Kings as our server said this is one of their most popular choices. I opted for the Spicy Charsu. Now I understand some people can't handle heat but I live off of Purple Tongue hot sauce which is made with some pretty hot peppers. I asked for a level one and the lady explained that the spice level on the Charsu was a whole series of levels higher than the King of Kings. I get that . Give me the heat. Anywho, she was comfortable with giving me 0.5 but said I could make it hotter if need be. Ok, better to start smaller I guess. They put some sauce on the side which I added to my bowl. Personally I found the 0.5 a nice tingle; it was good. Made my nose run. But I'm totally getting the level 1 next time. My friend however tried a sip of my broth, spit it out and said poison poison because of the heat Mind you, his King of Kings was a level 1. Which to me tasted creamy and delicious. I love a good pork bone soup and I opted for the Spicy Charsu because of the pork bone base. I loved the broth. It was perfection. The noodles were so fresh . The portion size was enormous. I kept eating and more noodles appeared. The Charsu had an amazing flavor to it . Smoky and delicious . My friend is a larger man and even he commented on the portion size saying he would be ok with a smaller size as he was so full. Good portions for your money. We also had the Gyoza and the TakoYaki. The TakoYaki was soft and loaded with the delicious sauce. The Gyoza were enormous. We were both 100% satisfied with our visit and will be back for sure.

The concerned server told me that it may be painful, but being the chili head that I am, I gladly took on the challenge. It was a larger bowl than their regular size and my ramen came topped with lots of corn, some mushrooms, bean sprouts and 6 large pieces of chasu. The broth was magma red, but it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was spicy but not to the point where it would warrant a warning. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. It's still one of the few ramen options in Durham but can't say it's comparable to the other Kenzo locations.

Last Tuesday, I had my monthly 7 am meeting with a bunch of technical writing peers from around the world. It's quite the meeting that typically lasts for four hours. Luckily, we ended earlier than usual. It meant that my workday ended at around 3:30 pm. It was perfect, as I had a concert to attend several hours later. Normally, I don't do dinner before a concert. I grab a quick bite to each before I head downtown. This time, since I was done work early, I felt that having an early dinner was worthwhile. I drove downtown and parked in a lot that seems to be my usual spot whenever I'm attending a concert at Massey Hall. My original plan was to find an eatery close to the concert venue. I spotted Hokkaido Ramen Santouka steps away. I wanted ramen! I walked in and there was a sign that said to wait. I had no wait time. A woman and the entire staff greeted me. I asked for a table for me and got one. It was great. Seating between tables and diners is close together. You definitely overhear conversations and you can't help it. The man next to me had stretched his foot under my table. I didn't notice that he was in my space until I uncrossed my leg and my foot hit his. I listened to two friends next to me. The man seemed to take charge over what he and his female friend should eat, which was interesting. He gave the impression that he was an expert until the server came over and he had a ton of questions. It's always fun being an observer and listener. I had no choice but to listen to her dating experiences. I got a menu. I knew what I wanted. My server came over and was ready to take my order. I got these items: - Diet Coke - Miso chachu ramen, with bamboo shoot held - Jammy egg and corn as extra toppings The menu doesn't tell you what ingredients you get in each type of ramen. However, it does come with a photo. I asked how large a large bowl of ramen was. My server was great pointing up to a display of three bowls. I went large. The photo indicated that my miso ramen had bamboo shoots. I'm not a fan of them, so I asked that they be omitted. I also added a jammy egg and corn. I got a cold can of Diet Coke. A frosted glass with ice accompanied it. I was happy. I love an icy cold drink. This one was excellent. I loved that it was extra cold. My bowl of ramen had arrived. I was excited to dive in. My miso chachu ramen was delicious. The miso flavour was on point. I drank most of the broth, which speaks volumes on how yummy it was. The chachu was tender and had the best balance of pork and fattiness. The number of slices was generous. The ramen was chewy and perfectly done. I loved the corn and jammy egg. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed my ramen without these two key toppings. They worked nicely with the green onions. What prevents me from giving this place a perfect rating is flagging a server to get me water, or to frankly flag any staffer for something, such as ordering dessert or getting the bill. It took effort and hand-waving to get their attention. It took two tries to get a glass of water with ice. I was happy when I got some after I had finished my Diet Coke. It was equally as cold and yummy. I ordered dessert. The menu is stuck on each table. I asked what ice cream flavours were available. There were two flavours and I went with matcha. It was rich, creamy, and full of strong matcha flavour. The scoop of ice cream was generous. I loved the small spoon, which allowed this dessert to last a lot longer. I asked for the bill. I got a payment machine. I used my credit card to pay and tip. All was great. I used the washroom before I headed over to explore the downtown area. The washrooms are downstairs. It's an older building, so accessibility is an issue. There are two single-stall washrooms. The one that I used was clean. Because it's an older building, the ceiling is low. I am just shy of six feet in height. I made it without hitting my head on the ceiling. If you are six feet and taller, you'll need to duck to make sure you don't bang your head. Staff say goodbye to you when you leave. It was a nice touch, although I don't know what they are saying to me in Japanese. They could be swearing at me and I wouldn't know. I had a wonderful experience here. If you don't mind sitting close to folks and waving your arms like a maniac to get your server's attention, come here. This ramen joint appeared as a Michelin place in 2017. I can see why. The food quality is excellent. (200)
