We went to Tosca's the Friday night of Memorial Day Weekend and enjoyed the food, as usual.. The salmon and cod entrées were exceptional. But most of all we had a fabulous time listening and dancing to Geoff Hick's band. Geoff Hicks is a jazz and R&B pianist extraordinaire! He sings, too, and the band members are talented in their own right. We hope to come back and hear him soon and bring more of our music-loving friends with us! read more

I had high hopes for Tosca on seeing reviews here on yelp, and on a tired rainy night after driving from NYC we were excited to go. I should have known that things were going to go downhill when we came in with our daughter and we were seated in the lounge area ... 1) manager promptly came over to ask my husband to remove his baseball cap. We were in a lounge area where baseball game was on a tv screen. Nearby customers were in jeans and sneakers. Really?? 2) Panzanella was so overly doused in dressing that the salad was soggy. Could not finish 3) No kids menu. Don't bother bringing children here. 4) Pizza was light crispy and fairly priced. 5) Husband's cod was light and well seasoned, and a very generous portion. He didn't enjoy the sweet pepper/beans combo. 6) Wait staff was excellent. In all, if you are out for a date night or just drinks and no kids, and are up for spending north of $20+ an entree for dining that doesn't knock your socks off, come here. read more

We have heard about this place many times and finally made a reservation for Friday night at 7:30. We arrived on-time and were told they would have to clear a table for us, that's fine, then we end up at this oddly located table staring directly into the servers' prep station. Ok....weird for a reservation table. The cocktails were great, digital wine list annoying and server good. The salad was uninspired. We had the lobster pasta, which was the best part about the meal and not something that we typically order so that was a nice surprise. The skirt steak was way too salty and just tasted like marinade and salt. Overall, way too many great restaurants out there to waste a Friday night on this one. read more

Tosca was once one of my favorite restaurants. The service is top notch with excellent ambience, however the food has fallen very short of my expectations for the last two visits. Having been going here for years its a shame that they are falling behind the times. I would love to see more attention to their food quality and possibly a redesigning of the menu. I will be back to try the food again, but not for some time while so many other restaurants are able to provide more quality. I have always regarded Tosca as the best of the best and I still wish I could but for now I dare say it is overrated. read more

What an amazing experience we had here this past Mother's Day. A dear friend who recently passed away gave each of us a gift card to dine here together and we spent it that day in her vision. Everything from the delicious multigrain and white bread with olive tapenade down to the after brunch coffee was amazing. The service was outstanding. All went above and beyond. We had the pleasure of sharing the following: Roasted beets - The beets themselves were juicy and appetizing and the way they prepared the goat cheese was non traditional. It was actually breaded, fried and shaped like a crab cake. Definitely a different spin than what we're used to when we think goat cheese and beets. Cesar salad - Very delicious and fresh and I've always loved how they served it with the white anchovies and the extra crunchy croutons. Calamari - High quality and very plentiful. I love spicy food so the kick from the peppers added to the overall dish. Island Creek raw oysters - The nice mignonette sauce into the oysters added an extra WOW factor. Classic Margarita pizza - Not greasy, nice and thin. A true flatbread pizza. Porcini Pizza - Same as the Margarita although we thought this could've had a tad more truffle flavor added. Pan seared scallops - 4 large silver dollar sized scallops with a healthy serving of risotto. Loved it more this time than the previous times I've been here for scallops years ago. Truffled parmesan tater tots - Now this was star of the show. Very unique and definitely a must try. The inside of the tater tots were like truffled mashed potatoes while the exterior was light and crunchy. Big hit on our table. If I could give 10 stars, this would rightfully deserve it! Broccolini - This is probably the only dish we weren't too crazy about. I loved the mesquite taste but the veggie was way overcooked to the point where it was a little soggy. Personally, I like a little bit more with a snap and crunch when I bite into it. Overall, a solid 5 star experience with the exception of the broccolini. Highly recommended for a special occasion if you're looking for something great in the South Shore. read more

My wife and I like to have light dinners sitting at the bar when we're out. We like the intimate service and be able to chat with the bartender when they have time. The other night we visited Tosca and were fortunate to be able to get two seats at the bar since it was rather early in the evening. What really made our night special was our bartender Kelley. She was personable, attentive, accommodating and made sure we were enjoying our meal and our cocktails. Just what you expect fine dining restaurant. Don't get me wrong sitting at tables a Tosca is also a great dining experience but this particular evening we didn't have time for more formal dinner. We are so fortunate to be able to sit at the bar and have Kelley as our server. We will return! read more

We had a wonderful date night at Tosca. Excellent service, and great gluten-free options, including gluten free rolls while we waited for our food. My husband had the ravioli, which he claimed to be the best pasta he's had since being in Italy nearly 3 years ago. I had the cod, which was gluten free. The gluten free menu had other options as well, including pasta. For dessert, the flourless chocolate cake trumped the tiramisu, though the tiramisu portion was gigantic. This is a great restaurant. Excellent ambience lotta fun trendy people. The food can be inconsistent. Last night I had one of the best New York strips I've ever had. But the truffle pasta had absolutely no flavor to it. We took it home with us and Dr didn't have it for lunch the next day. It was much better with our doctor. We go to this restaurant fairly often. First time dining at Tosca. We like to sit at the bar and my first impression of the two servers, Amy and Kelly, was that they were very friendly, efficient and professional. The ambiance was very Italian and warm. My wife had the sockeye salmon and I had the sirloin medallions. Both entrees were very good. Prices were a little high but worth it if you want to experience fine dining. I would give it a 4 and a half star rating. read more

Our friends invite us to come up and have dinner at Tosca. We were so excited to have dinner there because we heard fantastic things about the food and the impeccably service. Well everything was fantastic!! The food and the service. But the only thing the young hostess was dressed inappropriately. She had on a very very sort dress with a low front looked like she was dressed to a cube. Great food! I loved the wild boar bolognese - delicious and cooked to perfection. Service was fantastic. However, I was not a huge fan of the atmosphere. It is a very active, bustling restaurant so if you're looking for something quiet and relaxing, this isn't the place. You can hear your neighbor's conversation and they can hear yours. Definitely not an intimate restaurant. Went here with a friend since this was one of his favorite restaurants to eat at when he lived in Hingham. We made a reservation, so we were able to be seated right away. I can't remember everything that we ordered since it has been a couple of months since we dined there, but we enjoyed everything that came to the table, especially one of the dessert that were some type of donut/profiterole. Overall, the food here was classically prepared and had good flavor and the service was very friendly and welcoming. As someone who's passionate about good food, and also a South Shore resident, I've had Tosca on my list of restaurants to try for a long time. We chose Valentine's Day to give it a shot. First of all, we were seated at kind of a weird table. As you walk in, the area directly in front of you is a small section of two-person seaters, all crammed in next to one another. We were seated at the table on the end, shoved up against a wrought iron fence-like divider that separated our table section from the main floor. It eliminated our elbow room on that side of what was already a very small table. I'm not sure if they had that section so tightly packed because it was Valentine's Day, but it was very uncomfortable and I think it definitely colored my experience. My husband ordered the cider sangria, which was delicious. I ordered the Smoke Signal, which was a tequila and mezcal concoction with lime juice and agave syrup. It came as described, but was extremely heavy on the tequila and could have been much smoother if there had been more of a balance with the lime juice. I also couldn't taste much of the rich smokiness of the mezcal that I so crave when ordering a drink that contains it. It was a disappointing cocktail. We ordered the house oysters, which were very small, but briny and delicious. They had excellent flavor, but were quite expensive per oyster (considering the size). For our main courses, my husband ordered the lobster baked pasta, which was essentially a lobster mac 'n cheese creation. He enjoyed it very much, and I took a bite and found it delicious as well. I ordered the seared scallops over risotto. It came with 4 scallops that were nicely seared; however, the entire dish was incredibly salty. Overall, the experience was okay but I've had far better meals at much more affordable restaurants. My husband and I are not shy when it comes spending good money on a fine meal, but the value here was lacking based on the quality of the food. Verdict: over-priced and overrated. With so many great restaurants on the south shore, better dining experiences can be found elsewhere. read more

It was our second time trying the restaurant... We recently moved to the area, and we have heard mixed reviews about it. Our first attempt there was mediocre at best. As prior restaurant owners ourselves, we know the benefit of giving a restaurant a 2nd try. Tonight We sat at the bar, and the bartender seem to not really care that they we were there (I guess because we're not locals. We noticed lots of other people coming in and he spent a lot more time with them with what seemed to be small town banter). My husband and I decided to try the raviolis and the Veal Parmesan, as both might be safe bets. We also ordered a salad to split, I was surprised it came out in a big bowl with two plates for us to do the splitting ourselves.The bartender forgot on the second round that we requested, what we were drinking...And understandable if it's a busy night, but the bar was empty. Honestly, for the price point, and what the ambience is, the food and the service did not deliver. Will give it 2 tries, and won't be back. read more

I had an absolutely amazing birthday dinner at Tosca. You will never have a diluted martini here, that's for sure. And what a great pour. The cheese board was the best I've had yet. I got a shrimp and artichoke pasta dish and the smaller portion was the perfect amount if you're saving room for desert. The creme brûlée didn't disappoint either. An intimate dining environment. I would consider this an overall "average" dining experience.The menu is varied enough but very expensive. I got the "Bell and Evans Chicken",it was a big portion and the chicken and glazed sauce was delicious but underneath that , very rich mashed potatoes and some kind of saucy mushrooms that tasted processed and very salty. The restaurant was very noisy(this was on a week night) and top 40 type of music was way too loud,didn't seem to fit the otherwise eloquent setting.Soft background jazz and less noise would be better. Maybe it's different on the weekends,I don't know.One more thing...the desserts are fantastic! read more

I used to love Tosca, and the last few times have not been good. Again, I tried the chicken under a brick and it was gross. I used to love that dish but now it is so bland. Tosca is settled in the quaint downtown area of Hingham near the ocean, but certainly not ON the sea (more like a block away). If you are unfamiliar with Hingham, the town center pits old New England style Historical houses and monuments juxtaposed with modern shopping and dining. Beyond this, Hingham is difficult to get to as it sits far off of Route 3 or 93 or any other road a normal human being would take. I say we fill in Weymouth with sand and build a bridge from exit 16 to the ocean. Despite the arduous journey to get to the Restaurant, Tosca is worth the trip. The food is outstanding, the atmosphere is romantic, and the service may be the best I have experienced south of Boston. The food: Italian and pricey, but delicious. The menu consists of authentic Italian pasta/steak/seafood dishes as well as the chef's take on classics (PIZZA). The atmosphere: classically decorated, dimly lit, a bit crowded, not too loud. The windows have a nice view of the quiet street. The chef's can be seen from the dining area. The service: knowledgeable, friendly, and prompt. I was very impressed with our waiter's knowledge of the dishes. While offering the specials, he made special note of the preparation of each dish. He offered recommendations based on our likes and gave clear support as to why we would like said recommendations. He was also very quick to replace our $7 cocktails which endeared him to me. The wait can be excessive, parking is sometimes tough, and the price may be a deterrent, but Tosca is worth it. read more

Found my latest visit to be less than satisfying....whether it was because of the oddly uncomfortable presence of our Lurch-like server, or the tasteless lobster pasta special, (flavored only with several anemic slivers of thyme and a thin, watery broth)...who's to say.... It did get three stars, however, for the always cozy atmosphere under the amber lights, the killer fig and goat cheese starter, and the reliably tasty caesar salad. Didn't want to deal with the Boston traffic so the Hubby and I went out to celebrate at Tosca instead. The Italian eatery in Higham had everything we wanted for a romantic date night. Good food we could share with each other, a large selection of wines to choose from and to top it off a surprise jazz band that played live music later in the evening. We didn't make reservations until late, so we ended up getting a seat in the wine room and we're so glad that we did. It's a smaller room off to the side that is significantly quieter then the main dining room. When you're on a date night this is important. The ambiance of the place is dark and intimate. Exposed brick with old timey Italian and french pictures on the walls. Loved the huge windows as well as the floor to ceiling wine cellar in the wine room (and from time to time you could see a waitress climb the ladder to get a bottle, really fun!). Hubby and I bought a bottle of wine and decided to start with wine and the cheese plate. We love cheese plates and were not disappointed with this one! About 8 different cheese came out on a large wooden cheese board with a variety of fruits and breads. Yum, could easily have fed a group. Then we split a cesar salad - crispy lettuce, fresh parm and perfect amount of dressing - and the chicken under a brick. Wow. Melt in your mouth good. Perfect combination of crispy chicken skin, juicy chicken breast and creamy polenta. We licked the plate. Go with people that you really like as service is slow, especially when they are busy. Took about 10 minutes for our waitress to ask for our drink order and another 15 for the bottle of wine to come. She also placed the bottle of wine in ice out of reach of us, so the hubby had to get up to refill our glasses if she was too busy to come back and refill them. As the dining room emptied she became more attentive. The cherry on top was the surprise jazz band! Loved how everyone, old and young got up from their seats and swayed to the music between the tables. We might come back just for drinks and the music. Perfect date night! read more

Tosca lived up to the hype! My friend and I spent 4+ hours having dinner and drinks here. We tried to get a reservation for the same night and were told the dining room was booked up until 9pm. However, they informed us the wine room was not too busy and would be able to accommodate. When we arrived, we were seated immediately in their "wine room". The wine room is the more casual side of the restaurant. Its a room with a small bar, a handful of small coffee table-like tables with plush sofa seating and there's also live music on Saturdays. The service for the night was great. She was very attentive and nice. and the food was amazing! We started off with the Chicory salad - smoked prosciutto, asparagus, capers, w/ a garlic & chili dressing; this was Delicious! (aside from the surplus of capers) The server checked to see if we were sharing the salad and were able to split the plates for us. After I finished my salad, she also noticed I didn't eat most of the capers and apologized that they must have put too much in the dish. For an entree, I ordered the duck fettuccine but because i love cavatellis, i asked for a substitution and they were happy to accommodate. The dish was good, but I wish my duck was a little more tender. My friend ordered the rib eye entree and she loved it. Even though I'm not a huge beef eater and I thought it was delicious. The rib eye steak was cut very thin and it was cooked in this amazing sauce. The steak entree was served with big pieces of bread IN the dish and a small side of salad, very interesting. We finished the night with a couple of coffee drinks and just stayed in the wine room to chat and relax. I can't wait to go back! read more

Tosca is a South Shore institution. Always busy on weekends and no matter what new restaurant is popping up on the South Shore, there is always Tosca. The food is consistently good, although they do have some menu items that are very average. I've never had any issues with their service, even on the busiest of nights. One warning: it can be extremely loud and boisterous so if you are in the mood for a quiet dinner, don't go on a busy night. That said, the ambience is very intimate and casually elegant. Prices are steep and for some of those very average menu items, it seems a little too pretentious. (Romaine lettuce is romaine lettuce, no matter what you do to it.) Despite the hefty tab, I still highly recommend Tosca. It is one of my favorite places to eat. read more

From being greeted at the door from the wonderful hostess who sat us at a perfect table right down to our 5 star meal this place was all around perfect! Even our waiter was spot on!!! This was my first time at Tosca! It definitely will not be my last. I ordered for an appetizer the Mushroom Aranchini's! They came on the plate so perfect it was like an artist put them there. There were 4 perfectly round Aranchini's! They were absolutely delicious! They were cooked perfectly and piping hot! I loved them! I also decided to try the Wild Boar Bolognese! I was so glad I did. It was by far, one of the BEST pasta dishes I have ever tasted in my life. I had to save some for my Husband so he could try this amazing dish!!! I cannot wait to come back to this restaurant. I have to come back with my Husband. He'll love it. I was with my Girlfriends. They had the Roasted Beet Salad and they also loved it! Also the Butternut Squash Lunes!
