You can't go wrong at Torchy's. The tacos are good, they're fairly inexpensive (for gourmet tacos), and there's a huge variety. Of course, every taco place seems to suck at the "no cilantro" request, but this isn't a dig against them - it's just a fact. The tacos are $3-5, they have calorie counts on the menu, and they're pretty big as far as tacos go. I eat two, and I'm decently full. The service at this location was friendly, generous, and funny - and he even brought us some complementary chips and salsa. I know it's a chain, and it's Americanized, and ok fine, yes I would rather pay around $1/taco, but I can't complain. It's a good place, ample parking, quick service, and they server beer. With all the COVID stuff going on you would think that restaurants would take cleanliness more seriously. On 7/15/2020 my girlfriend and I went to this Torchy's location in Cinco Ranch Katy (big mistake) when I got my tacos I found a bug on my jalapeño. A dead black fly, so big I don't know how someone could miss it. See the photos below. After this we asked for a full refund which the manager agreed to. This experience ruined our whole day and ruined the image of Torchy's for us. I am glad to say that me, my girlfriend, my family and my girlfriend's family will never give Torchy's our business again. Ugh. I'm writing more about the customer service than the food quality. The food quality is ok, but the frustration lies in that I ordered a large order from door dash, which included 2 orders of guacamole (their guacamole does rock!) and some tacos with no cheese, as cheese is a food allergy. Delivery from door dash was quick, but the order was all wrong. Instead of the guacamole, they send two quesos, and all the tacos were loaded with cheese. Since the Door Dash only sends out the order (which was correct via the receipt), but does not check the order due to sanitary reasons, the delivery driver did not know the order was incorrect. I called torchys and spoke with the manager who simply said that it's not their problem that the order was incorrect even though they were the ones who made the mistake, then as I was asking a question, he hung the phone up in my ear. GREEN CHILE PORK- slow-roasted pork carnitas simmered with green chiles and topped with queso fresco, cilantro onions, and a wedge of lime I like that the taco was filled to the top with meat. They were very generous, but it was dry even when I squeezed in the lime. The meat to veggies ratio was off and there wasn't many onions and cilantro. The salmon was a bit overcooked for me. I tend to like my salmon either sushi style or medium rare. This salmon was more of the medium to well done. I love the earthiness of the beans and the sweetness of the corn. Out of the tacos I ordered here, I liked this one best. The flavors of the tacos have potential, but I'm not sure if it's up to par with all the high ravings and reviews I've heard and read. Some people have told me it depends on the location and I might not have hit the right location yet. I can see that the tacos could taste amazing, but the way it was made here lacked a bit in finesse and quality. Fun, modern, upscale atmosphere, consistently great and unique food, pretty good service from hipsters, but one of our favourite joints no doubt, for many years now. It's always so busy and it's made to order so it's gonna take a while. Line usually moves fast but ordering ahead is smart if you know what you want. I guess it's pretty hard to mess up tacos anyway but they're always well put together visually and cooked perfectly, always loaded with flavour. They are different obviously, they have many fun twists on traditional tacos and of course a few what can be called staples, but even they have exceptions like green chiles in a bacon and egg taco. Love all the options like salmon, tuna, eggs, fried alvacado, queso fresco, turkey, especially green chiles and the tortillas are better than average. And a taco of the month always like this month is turkey and mole (you know, that spicy, chocolatey red sauce) ! One can't go wrong ordering at least one breakfast taco every time, at least not me. And the options on all the salsas is nice, there are lots of pairings available. I have a love affair with their green chile chips and queso though, I can't get enough, I order it every time.
