Torchy's Tacos - Thanks torchys for the 50 cent taco. This place is always hit or miss. This was definitely a miss. - Tex-Mex Near Me - Katy, Texas

With all the COVID stuff going on you would think that restaurants would take cleanliness more seriously. On 7/15/2020 my girlfriend and I went to this Torchy's location in Cinco Ranch Katy (big mistake) when I got my tacos I found a bug on my jalapeño. A dead black fly, so big I don't know how someone could miss it. See the photos below. After this we asked for a full refund which the manager agreed to. This experience ruined our whole day and ruined the image of Torchy's for us. I am glad to say that me, my girlfriend, my family and my girlfriend's family will never give Torchy's our business again. Not like they care, if they did, then they wouldn't have served us food with a bug in it during a global pandemic. How do I give zero stars? read more

True reviews about staff not being friendly but I was still nice and left a tip. Waited 15 minutes for 4 fajita tacos to go. The description of the fajita taco is: TENDER MARINATED & GRILLED CHICKEN BREAST WITH GRILLED ONIONS & PEPPERS, PICO DE GALLO & FRESHLY GRATED CHEDDAR JACK CHEESE WITH YOUR CHOICE OF SAUCE AND TORTILLA. There are literally two grilled peppers, one sliver of onion , no pico and the chicken is dry so I added sour cream when I got home. REALLY disappointing for $18. read more

Holy queso, Batman! The reviews don't lie- the queso is awesome! I had the Baja shrimp taco which was wonderful and the taco of the month which had grilled chicken on it. I am a lover of tacos so I like to think I know a good one from a bad one. My sister said her beef taco didn't have much flavor though so that's why I gave them 4 instead of 5. But the tacos I had and the queso and rice and cheese all deserve 5 stars on their own! Overall I definitely recommend this place if you are in the mood for tacos or queso! Just know before you go that some tacos are much better than others. read more

Very good idea really like the shrimp tacos, perfectly mixed the Mexican style food with a hint of shrimp, the service is great, the workers are kind and treat the customers great. And the ambiance is incredible, beautiful building, and I am comfortable while I'm there. read more

Chips and queso were AMAZING. Best chips and queso I've had at any Mexican restaurants. I got two crossroads tacos, trashy style. The first one's tortillas were dry. But the second taco was incredible. Be ready to get messy!! Service was extremely slow for being mildly busy. This is the sole reason I am not giving a 5 star review. The workers were happy and respectful. Awesome atmosphere! read more

Ordered doordash from Torchy's tacos at this location and they messed up the order . I ordered multiple salsas from them that I typically enjoy and was left with a bag free of any of them . When I spoke to the manager at the restaurant he simply said take it up with doordash and did nothing to apologize or offer any solution. As you can clearly see in the picture it's retry clear what I asked for them to provide . A simple I'm sorry for the inconvenience goes a long way and trying to find a solution goes even further . They clearly can't follow basic instructions and don't care to fix their mistakes . read more

I love me some Torchy's tacos! This is not my first time going to a Torchy's, but it's a new location for me. The food is delicious as usual, with all the tried and true delicious menu items. The ambiance and decor is fun, open, bright, welcoming and hip. We ordered breakfast tacos.... The Migas and the potato egg and cheese. I told my boyfriend to get 3 tacos because he is a big eater. Two tacos was more than enough to fill him up. I usually get 3-4 tacos at most Mexican restaurants, and at Torchy's I was full after 1 taco and stuffed after 1.5 total. Delicious food and a great value! Highly recommend you stop by for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Definitely try the queso! read more

Ugh. I'm writing more about the customer service than the food quality. The food quality is ok, but the frustration lies in that I ordered a large order from door dash, which included 2 orders of guacamole (their guacamole does rock!) and some tacos with no cheese, as cheese is a food allergy. Delivery from door dash was quick, but the order was all wrong. Instead of the guacamole, they send two quesos, and all the tacos were loaded with cheese. Since the Door Dash only sends out the order (which was correct via the receipt), but does not check the order due to sanitary reasons, the delivery driver did not know the order was incorrect. I called torchys and spoke with the manager who simply said that it's not their problem that the order was incorrect even though they were the ones who made the mistake, then as I was asking a question, he hung the phone up in my ear. A simple and kind apology for the mix up could have made all the difference in a 1 Star and a 5 star review, as we are all human and make mistakes, but how it was handled was rudely, carelessly, and with utter disrespect. read more

Good tacos and innovative flavors that Torchy's is known for. I'm not really the biggest taco eater, and I've definitely had better tacos ,but if your looking for that signature Torchy's Tex-Mex taste they do it! My favorites are their Beakfast tacos and Dirty Sanchez taco. They also have so many different "salsas" made specifically for every taco.I love how they have a wide variety of things on their menu so I can always try something new. In addition, you can order online so that you can conveniently just pick up your order when you arrive...this has saved me several times!Torchy's is one of those places you have to try when you're living in Texas.Starting in Austin and receiving national recognition, this Torchy's does the job well! read more

Good tacos. I like how much variety they have as well as the portions. I got two tacos and was struggling to finish them. Came on a Monday morning and there was not much of a crowd. The prices are also very reasonable for the amount of food you get. Do keep in mind that you order at the counter and then they bring the food out for you. I also appreciated how fast they took our food after we were done eating which showed how they like to keep the place nice and clean. Overall good experience and not much of a wait. read more

Giving them 3 stars on my takeout experience. I was in a rush to get home and pretty hungry, craving Torchy's queso, so I called the store and put in my order. All I ordered was their Queso (No diablo) and chips. Once I got to the Torchy's I was pointed over to the bar where there were 2 girls on their phone gossiping about something, not paying attention to the customers. When I finally got their attention, they checked me out and gave me the order. When I got home, I was very disappointed to find the cup only half full... I'm not sure if this is the "take-out" portion, but it is definitely not the same portion they give when ever I dine in (but I was still charged the same). I wouldn't risk doing takeout only to be disappointed and frustrated when I get home. read more

This is by far my favorite taco joint in Katy - and let me tell you why. The 411: Torchy's is not your run of the mill Texmex taco joint. And it's not authentic Mexican either. Torchy's has a unique blend of innovation that I can only describe at Taco-fusion. And it's fusion worth sinking your teeth into (hints the 5 stars). Let's talk Tacos - My favorite: The Trailer Park. This taco comes on a soft flour tortilla, a slice of heavenly fried chicken (I know, trust me), cheese, lettuce and pico de gallo. If you're feeling brave, ask them to make any taco "trashy" and they will replace the lettuce with their golden queso. #perfection seriously, TRY IT Runner Up (but can it be a tie?): The Baja Shrimp. This taco comes on a soft four tortilla, stuffed with hand battered shrimp, onions, cheese and cilantro. They add a lemon on the side for you die-hard seafood fans out there. This is one that I would not recommend getting "trashy". The queso overpowers the shrimp and the combo doesn't mix well. The gem that wraps up this feast: The Chips and Queso! HOLY COW! I have never had queso like that in my life. Pro-tip: they add a scoop of guacamole at the bottom of the queso bowl. Basically, it's like striking gold. Let's not forget the margaritas - they are strong. I would personally go with the frozen strawberry. Enough said? read more

The tacos are good, my absolute favorite is when the corn is added. However, I'm a working mom, my child is sick and my only option for ordering was through door dash. On the door dash app there is no option for adding corn (I looked over and over) The app said to call for special orders. So, I took the time to call twice! The girl was VERY dismissive and said, "I'll see what I can do" in a rather rude way and hung up. Of course, my order arrived without the corn. I have never taken the time to write a bad review until now. I spent 22$ (b/c of doordash) and received a taco and 1/2 chips and salsa. Perhaps this is my own fault, however, what ever happened to customer service? read more

Hands down one of the best taco joints. Five reasons why I highly recommend Torchy's Tacos. 1. Anything I've ever tried on the menu was never short of pure deliciousness. The fajita meat are well seasoned and the queso is full of flavor. 2. The tacos may cost more than your average taco but that's because they are not your average tacos. These tacos are stuffed well. One taco is equivalent to two tacos. 3. They have a bar! 4. They have Breakfast Tacos. 5. The fountain drinks are "Maine Root Sodas" products which are made with real sugar cane. read more

Not feeling this torchy's....maybe I was too excited to see one much closer to me. But still, the experience and taste should be the same. Maybe when school starts, this place will be more doable for the 60-90 minute lunch crowd like myself. The line wasn't crazy but it took a while to order. I ordered my democrats and the cashier tells me they ran out of barbacoa! Huh? Bish what?....it's only 1:30 man! How is this possible? So she suggests I get the dem with the fajita beef...it was aight. But it wasn't my barbacoa and they put my tacos on flour tortillas which I absolutely despise unless I'm eating a quesadilla. I also ordered the green chile pork taco. My lips were pursing and I was having mini body shakes cause it was so damn salty! The meat was slow roasted alright....in a salt bath. No bueno... The queso was just as good as I've had at other locations so finally, something was right. If you haven't tried it, it's a must try. And idk why they don't advertise but you can get a half portion of it instead of the full $6. I did ask for a free drink since they didn't have my barbacoa. After all, 2 dems was really the only reason I drove over there...it's more than 10 minutes from my job. She smiled and obliged....and I chose the pink lemonade concoction and it's pretty good. 2nd highlight of my meal after the queso...pretty sad to say but honest. The service could be a bit better. Took 10 minutes to get corn tortillas to replace with the flour. I was excited when I saw this torchy's pop up on my yelp search but it will be a minute before I return back to this one.... read more

I was just checking out the area and wanted to grab something to eat and after looking around, my boyfriend and I decided to eat here. We tried some tacos elsewhere and everyone raves about Torchy's Tacos and wanted to compare and try it out. We've heard so much about this place from family and friends, but never got the chance to try it. There was no line when I came in and it wasn't hard to make a decision. They have some interesting items on their menu, but some things already caught my eye. My boyfriend and I both got 2 tacos each. We made our order and received a number and chose a booth to sit. The area where we sat smelled like it was badly cleaned.. like I was eating at a fast food joint in the play area. It was gross and the table was badly cleaned. GREEN CHILE PORK- slow-roasted pork carnitas simmered with green chiles and topped with queso fresco, cilantro onions, and a wedge of lime I like that the taco was filled to the top with meat. They were very generous, but it was dry even when I squeezed in the lime. The meat to veggies ratio was off and there wasn't many onions and cilantro. I tasted a hint of it, but it would've tasted better with more veggies. Overall, this was my least favorite taco. BEEF FAJITA- marinated and grilled skirt steak with grilled onions and peppers, topped off with shredded cheese and pico de gallo, served with flour tortilla and tomatillo sauce The beef was nicely flavored, but a bit chewy and tough. It wasn't as moist as I would've liked it to be, but the cheese added a nice creamy flavor and texture to the overall taste and I loved the fresh pico de gallo, which added a nice acidity. MR. ORANGE- blackened salmon topped with a grilled corn and black bean relish, queso fresco and cilantro, drizzled with avocado salsa, then served with a wedge of lime on a corn tortilla I love salmon and had to try this taco. The salmon was a bit overcooked for me. I tend to like my salmon either sushi style or medium rare. This salmon was more of the medium to well done. I love the earthiness of the beans and the sweetness of the corn. Out of the tacos I ordered here, I liked this one best. The flavors of the tacos have potential, but I'm not sure if it's up to par with all the high ravings and reviews I've heard and read. Some people have told me it depends on the location and I might not have hit the right location yet. I can see that the tacos could taste amazing, but the way it was made here lacked a bit in finesse and quality. I've seen better presentation, but worse flavors; so I'm not going to put this place away permanently. I'll be trying out their other locations for sure! read more

Fun, modern, upscale atmosphere, consistently great and unique food, pretty good service from hipsters, but one of our favourite joints no doubt, for many years now. It's always so busy and it's made to order so it's gonna take a while. Line usually moves fast but ordering ahead is smart if you know what you want. I guess it's pretty hard to mess up tacos anyway but they're always well put together visually and cooked perfectly, always loaded with flavour. They are different obviously, they have many fun twists on traditional tacos and of course a few what can be called staples, but even they have exceptions like green chiles in a bacon and egg taco. Love all the options like salmon, tuna, eggs, fried alvacado, queso fresco, turkey, especially green chiles and the tortillas are better than average. And a taco of the month always like this month is turkey and mole (you know, that spicy, chocolatey red sauce) ! One can't go wrong ordering at least one breakfast taco every time, at least not me. And the options on all the salsas is nice, there are lots of pairings available. I have a love affair with their green chile chips and queso though, I can't get enough, I order it every time. It's thick, creamy and spicy, with chunky alvacado, cilantro queso fresco. The chips are really good too, they seem homemade with those slightly charred bubbles rising off. And their drink selection has those Maine root fountain drinks to top it off. Only thing that I have yet to try are their deserts which looks amazing, but we never leave enough room, someday! read more

So I was overly excited and ready to try some fabulous taco's and all I got was over priced taco's that should be marked down. The most exciting part of the meal was the chips and queso,Which tasted like velveeta cheese with some extra mixins. The taco's to me were on the dry side and needed more sauce.Since it was my first time I didn't know that you could ask for extra sauce so I was left eating dry taco's.I actually had to jump on yelp.com to see what else to ask for. Oh and the customer service there sucks. They brought my food to the table and didn't say enjoy your meal,They just walked off.The cashier seemed a little to shy to be handling customers also. TBH....I would go back but since they didn't put forth an effort with customer service,I'd rather take my business elsewhere. read more

I used to love this place- It was always my impromptu date go-to whenever we didn't know where else to pick. We both loved it. A few days ago I went with my boyfriend, and everything tasted just like it always had. 45 minutes later, I was on the side of the road violently vomiting. I would continue to do this once I got home; vomiting every hour, on the hour. It got to the point where I was hospitalized due to worry from my mother. This place gave me food poisoning like I never believed. I was bedridden for two days and given two bags of IV drip with Zofran. Never have I regretted an experience at this restaurant more. As a safety precaution, I ordered the Trailer Park. My boyfriend ordered something else and he was entirely fine, but I'd steer clear of my order if you aren't in the mood for wretching. read more

I'm still not 100% sure where the to-go line is! My suggestion which is kind of obvious but particularly important for this location because it's almost always packed... If you're taking to-go, just order online and pick up from the side door. You may also be able to order to-go at the cashier from the side door entrance so you don't have to wait in line. If you do wait in line only to get to-go, place your order then stand by the side door... I think. I'm honestly still confused by the organization of this place, but good god they have great tacos. Of course, I'm a creature of habit, so I found something I love and I'll only order brushfire I have had Baja shrimp before, and it is also delightful. The price is also not unreasonable in my opinion. The place is very popular. I recommend that you NOT order the republican... I think it might be a joke or a hoax. But if you're curious... read more
