Great food spot. My SisterSister-in-law took me here. The service is ok, but they were friendly. The ambiance is that of a mid sized restaurant. The ambience was ok, but I wish they had tv's. Aside from that, it was a good spot for tacos. read more

Torchy's Tacos - Republican and Baja Shrimp Grilled. Very good!!! - Tex-Mex Near Me - Austin, Texas

I would give a negative million if I could. Grossest restaurant in all of Austin. This location should be kicked out of the franchise. Dirty. Greasy. Lack luster everything. I'm so depressed after visiting here I need to move out of the area. Not kidding at all. To the owner. Do you eat here? Is it acceptable? Ice Cold tortillas and unmelted cheese? Brisket so hard it is inedible? What happened? It tastes like it was prepped this morning and set in a fridge and then on my plate even though it took 20 minutes to get our food while dining in and there were only 2 other tables there. Employees are struggling. They seem to hate life. You used to have such helpful servers that were bubbly and friendly but now you have some Gen Z afraid to make eye contact and mumbles. It's so sad. So sad. I will never. Ever. Eat at a Torchys anywhere again. Ever. If it's between Torchys and a roller dog at QT I'll choose QT. Atleast it will be hot. read more

I really don't know what happened to Torchy's Tacos. At one point it was a wonderful, very Austin kind of place and now it is a filthy, disgusting place with mediocre cold food. The only thing I can surmise is that after it was taken over by private equity it has gone down the crapper as do all restaurants that are owned by private equity. This location is incredibly dirty and the food is prepared by people who couldn't care less. The staff which used to be perky and engaged when it was owned locally is now a bunch of disaffected Gen Z types who couldn't care less. We were served by two touch screens and a disaffected young person who couldn't care less and seemed high on gummies. The men's room at this location is utterly filthy and way dirtier than most gas station restrooms. The hand washing basin is dangling off the wall and has caulk all over it which seems applied by a drunken repair person. It was literally disgusting and smelled worse. I was so put off by my visit that I have realized that it is not worth the risk to dine here anymore. I will never return. Torchy's used to be a great Austin restaurant but it is now being systematically ruined by its new owners who are clearly only focused on how much money they can wring out of the place. All the creativity and positive energy are gone, replaced by filth and gross inedible food. The food also tastes much worse and I suspect it is now being sourced at Sysco or some other giant logistics company that produces the same bland cafeteria class food ingredients that other private equity-owned restaurants use. If you value your health, please stay away from this restaurant and its branches. I literally do not review too many places but I was truly blown away by how filthy and disgusting this restaurant was. read more

There's something wrong with this location. Twice in the last month I've ordered DoorDash from here and the tacos literally showed up cold. Cold as in refrigerated, as if they pulled the pre-prepped tacos from the fridge and tossed them right in the bag. I get that food is prepped, precooked, and refrigerated for later reheating for logistical reasons, but I'm in a hotel and have no way of cooking/heating this food myself. read more

For a Yelp Elite review of an Austin icon like Torchy's, the key is to lean into your "local expert" voice--acknowledging that while it's a massive chain now, the consistency and specific "hacks" are why it's still a 5/5 for you. Here is an expanded version that fits your style and highlights why it's a staple for you: The Review Rating: 5/5 Torchy's Tacos is an absolute Austin institution for a reason. Even as they've expanded, the quality at the local spots remains incredibly high. When I'm looking for something fast, flavorful, and quintessentially "Austin," this is my go-to. The Holy Grail of Queso: Let's start with the Green Chile Queso. It is hands down one of my favorite quesos in town. The consistency is perfect, and that hit of diablo sauce and cilantro on top makes it addictive. If you're coming here and not getting the queso, you're doing it wrong. The Heavy Hitters: Trailer Park (Make it "Trashy"): This is a total staple. Pro-tip: you have to get it "trashy," which means they swap the lettuce for extra green chile queso. It's indulgent and 10/10 every single time. The Brushfire: This is my other favorite. The Jamaican jerk chicken has the perfect amount of kick, and the fresh mango balances the heat beautifully. It's a very "purposeful" flavor profile that stands out from a standard taco. Logistics & Service: What keeps me coming back is how reliable and quick the service is. It's my top choice for take-out because they have the system down to a science. Whether you're dining in or grabbing a bag to-go, the quality doesn't dip. Pro-Tip: If you're a regular, ask about the "Secret Menu." They have some off-book items like the "Mad Cow" or the "Tipsy Chick" that are worth a try if you want to switch up your usual order. Torchy's is a masterclass in "Damned Good" consistency. It's fast, it's reliable, and that queso alone earns the 5 stars. read more

First time at this location! Every person that helped us was so kind and thoughtful. There was ample room for seating and we were pleased with our food. I tried the "limited time only" Nachos and they were so good! Could definitely have split that with another person. I'd definitely come back read more

Just another weekday visit to Torchy's - lunch this time - we actually we only go there for lunch. Friendly service, clean interior, and food delivered to table in a timely fashion. Today we had the Taco of the Month - The Space Cowboy - an order of queso and chips and the Bonfire Bowl. The Taco of the month was very good, the queso and chips excellent, and the Bonfire bowl docked a few points for scraps of chicken skin and some oily dark chicken pieces in the mix. Overall a very good dining experience. read more

The Bonfire bowl with salmon was awesome!! I also got my free queso & chips for my birthday reward!!! It was so good I tasted it and I had it all packed to go but had to stay and finish it there cause it was too good to wait for later! when I went was the slow time around 2pm... so I got a table inside and was glad I stayed!! The inside is decorated with a "hellish" theme to match their "Torchy" brand. The people are nice and I received my order quick and efficiently. The only drawback was the two kiosks that they had and no one to help you... took me 10 minutes to figure out that kiosk... if it wasn't for the guy who ended up helping me... the rating would have been 3 stars!! read more

Wednesday, 7pm, My son and I decided to grab torchy's tacos before we had handel's ice cream. There was only a couple of people ahead of us in line so it didn't take too long to order at the counter. They do have self-serve ordering screens as well, But for some reason my son wanted to order with the person. After ordering we were able to find a table pretty quickly, And our food came out within 10 to 15 minutes. I just found out that they no longer had that roots brand or local soda brand I don't remember the name. But now they use Coke products. But I always get the sweet tea anyways so it didn't matter. I also loved that they had some horchata available as well. Cuz I love me some horchata. And it is good. I just had a little though. Cuz calories were pilin on lol This was my first time ordering the tots and I wasn't that big of a fan. If I was to order again I would ask them to leave the chili off. Our server was friendly, She brought out some Diablo sauce after delivering our order. She even came out to grab our empty trays. Overall it was a good experience! Torchy's is tried and true. read more

Came here for the first time and we got to try two vegetarian tacos! Both of them were good but wish they have more variety in vegetarian menu! We ordered two of each; one for corn tortillas and another one for flour. Personally, I liked corn tortillas better. I got root beer for my drink but it wasn't that good. read more

Me and my boyfriend came here for breakfast the other day and sadly it was pretty disappointing. Our food was not warm enough to melt the cheese in our burrito and tacos which made it less enjoyable to eat. The service was also pretty slow even though it wasn't busy while we were here. Overall, we thought the food was very lackluster and wished that it came out hot. read more

This has been my home torchy's for over 10 years and things have just gone downhill. The last time I went there we had ordered the meal deal for $20. This comes with 3 street tacos, 2 sides, 2 drinks; of the order the sides were missing. This was only noticed because my boyfriend and I were discussing getting another taco due to the size of the street tacos. He went back and placed the order for the tacos and to ask for our sides, they apologized (I understand we can forget something) and told him they would grab it and start the taco order. Once the tacos were done they called him up and gave him the bag. He got to the car looked down and noticed the beans were still missing! He went back and again they apologized and gave him the beans. Fast forward to today, we had been wanting to try the monthly taco and decided to get Torchy's for dinner. He went there, grabbed our food, and came home, he started asking me if I ordered any queso. I said yes I ordered queso, as for me this is the one reason why I keep going back to Torchy's. Of course the queso was missing and the icing on the cake is someone "checked" off all the items on the receipt, if we're going to have a system to ensure all items are there maybe we should do that? He asked me if he should go back but it would have another 20 minutes, additionally we tried calling the store but the number goes straight to an AI answering machine that states to fill out reviews online... Well that's convenient, I hope this store can get back to the standards it once had. read more

I went here about a month or two ago. Fast service, the tacos were consistent to what you'd get at any other Torchy's location, and there's ample parking. My favorite things on the menu are the Baja Shrimp taco and the queso. I could literally drink that queso. read more

You have not fully experienced Texas until you've had real tex mex cuisine. Our friends took us to Torchy's while we were visiting from out of town, and if you haven't been - you should. I ordered the Trailer Park taco - taken verbatim off their website, is a combination of FRIED CHICKEN, GREEN CHILES, LETTUCE, PICO DE GALLO, MIXED CHEESE WITH POBLANO SAUCE ON A FLOUR TORTILLA with an option to "GET IT TRASHY" - TAKE OFF THE LETTUCE & ADD QUESO. If you've never had a fried chicken taco, this is your sign to have one. The chicken was moist, crunchy, and flavorful. We also ordered the green chile queso and an appetizer sampler, so appropriately named the Threesome, as it had a half sized order of the guacamole, green chile queso, and salsa. Everything was delicious! Being a casual restaurant, you line up, order, and grab a table. Drinks are self service, and your food is brought out by a server. Great customer service here! read more

Most of the food is too hot (spicy). I got a Fajita plate today and the meat, the guacamole and the rice was heavily spiced. When you put that together in one meal, it becomes too much. The Queso I got on the side was the same. The only thing I'd recommend from Torchy's are the carnitas, brisket or shrimp tacos. read more

We love Torchy's and are so happy they made it to Phoenix. We lived in Austin and now we are in Vegas but every time we go to AZ this is our first stop. I love the fried avocado taco. My spouse always gets the Democrat and makes it trashy. Every meal starts with the queso w chorizo. It might not be the cheapest taco stand but it so worth it. read more

Take-out orders incomplete last several times. Food sloppily assembled. Fried ingredients are soggy. What happened to Torchy's quality?

Yummy yummy tacos. Man not really much else to say. I got the republican which had jalapeño cheddar sausage on it and some other things. It was delicious although the sausage piece was too large and I would have preferred half the amount. It was just a large thick slab of sausage and made the taco hard to eat so I cut it down the center and took half of it out. Very tasty nonetheless. The bushfire was an awesome melding of flavors. Seasoned jerk chicken, roasted jalapeños, and yellow mango made for a flavor packed bite. But that Diablo sauce is hot, delicious and addicting. I highly recommend only dipping the taco in the sauce and not pouring the whole cup over. I was really struggling with the pain afterwards. The fried avocado is a classic and so devious and simple with the sauce it comes with. Really really good. The margaritas were unfortunately the only disappointing part of our meals. They were way too sweet and not very good for the price. $10 for a margarita in a plastic cup that was mostly flavored syrup and not even a hint of alcohol. It was literally separating in the cup. The food was so delicious though I still give 5 stars and the lady at the counter yesterday was incredibly sweet and helpful. read more

Today is supposedly National Taco Day and they advertised BOGO tacos everywhere. After reading the fine print, I went to the restaurant and ordered 5 tacos. I was told it was 1 taco per order. So I guess the whole BOGO is a ripoff to get loyal customers to come in. Your tacos are great, but this scam is very disappointing. read more

Oh Torchy's, another beloved review for you. I am going to make it my mission to go to each location! The things we do in the name of love. Today I stopped at the location in Austin off 620. I was sad to see there was not a bar at this location, pretty straight forward with decor, not as decorative or elaborate as the others. Still looks good though. I sat on the patio with nice views of trees and a cooling breeze. I ordered the taco of the month, Kingpin. Half an order of queso, half order of Mexican street and 2 beef tacos to go for my pops. The queso came out quickly and was as delicious as always. Followed not long after by the rest of the order. The kingpin overflowed with delicious goodness, I had to scoop up the rest with chips which was tasty as well. SO, SO, good. My tummy is oh so happy. Thanks Torchy's! read more

I live right down the road so this location is super close to me. My husband and I have been there a couple times, and even took our dog with us once bc they have pet friendly patio (thanks for thinking of the fur families!). The inside is on the smaller side which typically gets PACKED with people on busy days. But the tacos are also delish and the staff is always nice. Last time we went, they actually accidentally gave us someone else's order. When we alerted them, they told us we could just have it since the food was already set down in the table. I know it was a mistake and not expected, but that was pretty cool. Their bfast tacos are one of my favs. I'm a vegetarian and glad they have a solid amount of options for us!!their white poblano sauce is my fav to put on everything... I wish they'd bottle that up instead of their Diablo sauce and sell that on the shelves because I'd buy it in a instant haha! read more

This Torchy's location is one of the smaller ones I've been to around town but they had the same quality of tacos as the other locations. Staff was friendly and our tacos came out pretty fast. The majority of their seating was indoors but they have a couple of tables for outdoor seating. A lot of the other Torchy's I've been to have a full bar but this one didn't have a dedicated bar, just had a few drinks to order at the counter. Surprisingly, they limit you to one drink per person per order. read more

Evacuated to the area & this place was suggested to me for late night take out. I love a good vegan taco option & avocado. The fried avocado taco was divine. I got a different flavor for the sake of trying things- the Baja shrimp. It was also good but the fried avocado was better. I also got a half side of street corn which was also great. I'd ask for extra sauce next time. Left overs heated up well the next day. I'll be visiting this place again. read more

My first Torchy's and it's in Cedar Park, TX! (I live in Galveston but spent 26 years in Houston) Heard a lot of good things about this taco place and it's all true. Met the manager (didn't get his name but real nice) white male mid thirties working today Monday November 19th I got the Dirty Sanchez ...good but overrated; I wouldn't order again. (scrambled eggs w/fried poblano peppers, guacamole, cheese) Got the Republican-grilled sausage link w/cheese and pico (yum but wouldn't order again) Got the Trailer Park my FAVORITE ...fried chicken w/cheese, pico, lettuce (would order again) Poblano, red and green sauces...excellent! FREE refills on sodas ...and their sodas are from Maine Root (handcrafted in Austin) I got the "mexican cola" ...refilled twice! I'd definitely go to another location! Muy Bueno! read more

Great place for a group to a quick and delicious bite to eat! Also they are consistent across locations. There's something for everyone, including tasty vegetarian options like fried avocado! The tacos are hefty, so 2 tacos was sufficient for a meal. We split the green Chile Queso & chips too, and supplemented out tacos with the dip too. They also have beer available. read more

We went to torchy's and ordered several tacos and a large chips and queso. The large queso was a joke. It was just ok in taste, and it really looks like it should be called a small. We got very little queso. Total rip off. Ditto the tacos. They are just average in quality but miniature. For what you get, this place charges way too much. Please do not go there unless you like throwing away your money on miniature portions and still being hungry after you eat and after you spent a lot of money. We will not go there again and we strongly recommend staying away. You can really make this mediocre food at home and save a lot of money. Total rip off for what you get. read more
