Downtown Gilbert's favorite grab n go & soft serve spot! You can't miss this kiosk especially with that huge gopher on top. They're known for their burritos - Topo Locos chicken or pork burrito ($11 + $2 for brisket upgrade). Elotes with brisket, and their soft serve. But since I was visiting, all the locals pointed me to the prickly pear soft serve dipped in chocolate and man was that divine. It is refreshingly delicious and only for $5.50. I also tried their watermelon agua fresca. Friendly staff. Great service. Highly recommend this place. There's a huge patio with benches and lawn games in the back to enjoy your treats.

Cute little shack. Great quality and prices! Lots of patio seating around. The burritos are huge and the dipped cones are delicious. The dipped cones are pretty messy so I would recommend extra napkins and maybe a bowl on the side! The workers are always friendly as well.

Prickly Pear Ice cream with a lime dip. Nom...nom...nom...

I've driven by it dozens of times but until today I haven't had the pleasure. The lines are always long so I figured it was worth a stop. I chose the soft serve Prickly Pear. Then the young man taking my order suggested the lime dip when I asked which would be best with it. Good call. Nice combo. A nice area behind the shop that's shady and shared with the BBQ joint next door.

I had been wanting to try Tapo after seeing an Instagram video that made the food look absolutely delicious. I finally decided to give it a shot and ordered the brisket elote and the Tapo burrito with pork. Honestly, I'm not sure what the hype is about. The brisket elote was $13 and was basically Frito chips with very little meat. For the price, I expected much more substance. The Tapo burrito was $11 and was mostly beans. Unfortunately, there just wasn't enough protein in either the burrito or the brisket elote to justify the cost. I'm pretty disappointed and, unfortunately, won't be back.

Came for the prickly pear ice cream & it did not disappoint! I generally love picking up prickly pear flavored treats, so when I saw they had ice cream I knew I had to stop by. We swung by on a Saturday after grabbing dinner somewhere else, there was a line out front, however it moved quickly. Our party tried the brownie sundae, the prickly pear ice cream with chocolate dip & a prickly pear ice cream with orange dip. Plus, a family member ordered a burrito for later and I grabbed one of the new watermelon aqua frescas they were promoting. The prickly pear ice cream dipped in chocolate reminded me of the chocolate covered cherries that are popular during the holiday season. I thought it was delicious & I was happy with the amount they give you for the price, some ice cream spots over charge & give you the smallest portion. Everyone really enjoyed their ice cream, and it was nice there was seating right next to their stand. The only thing I didn't like was the watermelon drink I had ordered, it didn't taste quite right instead of the sweet watermelon flavor I was expecting it tasted more like the rind had been blended up & added to the drink giving it a bitter taste. I look forward to visiting again for their ice cream!

Topo Loco Burritos

Genuinely one of the best burritos I've had in a long time! The loco version makes for some fun flavors inside- I definitely recommend! I really want to come back and try their elote and ice cream. The line for Topo is frequently long, so be prepared to wait but know that the wait is worth it! Also, the seating is frequently packed with it being right next to Joe's, but I've always been able to find a seat. I love this place!

Stopped at Topo for dessert after a great dinner at Joe's Real BBQ next door. The line was long, but the wait wasn't too bad. The cashier/server moved very quickly and efficiently. Their current special cone is called "Joy to the World" - looks like a dipped cone with crushed peppermint. I went with the Prickly Pear Twist soft serve in a cup. It was so good! Tastes almost like my favorite ice cream growing up, raspberry vanilla swirl, but not tart. The texture was smooth and creamy. Don't be deterred by the long line - it's honestly worth the wait! They also sell elote and burritos if you want something savory. I've had both, and they're pretty good too!

Great place for ice cream on the run. They have window outside so you do not have to go in to order it. They give you a large helping for only $4.50. It's large enough to share. They have outdoor tables to share your ice cream. Location in the center of town. Friendly staff.

Prickly pear swirl soft serve Twist Ice Cream with lime shell

I'm always struggling to find places to get great soft serve in Arizona... but this is the SPOT! I love their prickly pear swirl soft serve so so much. I will definitely take a detour into Gilbert just for the cream. It hits just right with the lime shell too!! Okay but if you can't eat it fast enough you should definitely opt for the cup and skip the cone unless you want a drippy mess

When it comes to Topo in Gilbert, I think it's fair to know a few behind-the-scenes facts. It is owned by the same people behind Joe's Real BBQ, Liberty Market, and Joe's Farm Grill, among others. So take a look and decide for yourself -- is this purely an opportunity to capitalize on a busy area by offering mediocre ice cream at a high price, similar to a tourist trap, or is it a genuine effort to give back? Unfortunately, I lean toward the former. I tried the prickly pear and vanilla swirl, which I found extremely sugary. I won't say more -- this is one decision you'll need to make on your own.

Olivia G.

My husband and I stopped by Topo for some ice cream and both got the twist with prickly pear and vanilla. I had mine dipped in orange, his in lime. Unfortunately, we ended up peeling off the dip--neither of us were fans of the flavor. That said, the prickly pear ice cream was delicious and definitely the standout. The service was friendly and fast, which made the experience even better. You can't eat inside, but there's plenty of spots to sit nearby outside. If we go back (and we probably will), we'll skip the dip and the twist and just get a cone of prickly pear on its own. Sometimes simple is best!

I've heard about this place, and was on my list to try when I'm in the area. I had the TOPO Pork. I wasn't to enthusiastic about eating it. However, it took me to a food high that I haven't been to in a long time. What can I say, it was great. With the pork flavor, to the crunch. It was great. I'm looking forward for another visit.

We looked for a house here in September, and under recommendation from our daughter, she suggested Topo. Well, in September it was over 100 degrees for a month, so we decided not to visit Topo at that time, because you order outside and you eat outside. Now that we've been here a while (and the weather has calmed a little) we decided to give it a try, and it was worth it! We both got the chicken Topo Loco and the food was amazing. It had just the right amount of spice, and crunch from the Fritos. The elote adds a good amount of sweetness to the burritos. For desert, the wife got a prickly pear twist cone with lime dip. If you haven't tried it, you've got to. I got the bacon caramel sundae and if you've ever had the bacon Sundae from Burger King when they had it, you'll appreciate this version! Our order was quick, and correct. So there was no problem there. The outdoor seating is picnic benches and it gives that picnic feel. There are cornhole games you can play while you wait, and if it gets cold at night, there's outdoor heaters in the seating area. Lots of people watching you can do as well, it's a pretty vibrant downtown area, and looks like it could get crowded at times. We parked about a block away, and there's also a parking garage just off the main drag. Well worth the money and we'll definitely be back! Enjoy.

Do they sell gift cards?

Not specifically for Topo. You can order and purchase Topo food using a Joes Real BBQ gift card by going into the BBQ and ordering from there.

Is the elote mix mayonnaise based?

Yes

Does Topo have any birthday offers like Joe's?

No, I asked a Topo employee the same thing about 2 weeks ago & he said they do not yet have a birthday offer.

Parking was a breeze, and since there were three of us (including one never-full teenager ), we went for the Mexi-Q Platter and added an extra birria taco so everyone could try one. It absolutely lived up to the hype! The surprise standout? The brisket tostada--sooooo flavorful and satisfying on every level! We also loved the sausage link, Mexi-Q twinkies (aka smoked jalapeños stuffed with brisket and cream cheese, then wrapped in bacon ), and honestly, everything we tried was a hit. For sides, we ordered Grandma's Calabacitas (a yummy squash veggie mix), roasted cream elote, and Julio's mac n' cheese (which I skipped, but the guys were big fans). We wrapped up this phenomenal meal with their GF banana pudding (they offer both GF and regular options), and it was seriously scrumptious--such a treat to have a gluten-free dessert that feels just as special! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and attentive. They double-checked that everything we ordered (minus the mac n' cheese) was gluten-free, which is always such a relief. It means so much when a place truly understands gluten and can clearly guide you on what's safe. We sat outside and soaked up the beautiful weather--it was the perfect setting for such a fun and tasty meal! An easily awarded and well deserved

Great sign as I'm sure it was even busier later after 2 pm when their Taco Tuesday starts. Parking was plentiful about a block away behind the buildings in the parking lot. I ordered the Joyride Margarita and shrimp ceviche from the HH menu. Margarita was good, you could taste the alcohol and the tajin rim was tasty. The ceviche was great with a good amount of shrimp and avocado, very flavorful. Both were great considering they were only $6 each. For entrees we ordered the SoCal Burrito and the Beast Burrito. The SoCal Burrito was really good, and there was a lot of big shrimps. The al pastor was a bit salty as was the carne asada in the Beast Burrito but it wasn't too bad. We also ordered one crispy fish taco which was good and came with a heaping scoop of guacamole. I really enjoyed the side salad that comes with the burritos! It had huge corn nuts which was a nice surprise. All in all their menu could be a tad larger (I was hoping for burrito bowls or a fish burrito) but their food is pretty tasty. Our server was very nice and checked in on us just the right amount of times, offering more chips and salsa as soon as we needed it. Parking is easy and there is a lot of outdoor seating, which we needed since we had our dog with us. We'll definitely be back!

The tacos were small 3" street tacos for $3 to $4. That's basically $1 per bite. I tried the chicken, beef, and carna asada.
