Tommy's BBQ is located inside the Assemble Marketplace with a few other restaurants. There's seating inside and outside with great views. I am a dry rub type of gal and I believe that real good bbq doesn't need any sauce. Unfortunately, the brisket had way too much bbq sauce. Had I known it would've been slathered all over the brisket, I would've asked for it on the side. The brisket had so much potential. It fell apart perfectly but I couldn't taste the flavors of the bark or seasonings since it was overpowered by the sauce. I really like the potato salad and my partner's garlic and butter corn was delicious. The mac and cheese wasn't my favorite. I'm definitely giving this place another try though since it's so hard to find good bbq in CA for a decent price. read more

It is located in the old Ford warehouse along with a full bar and a couple of other Food vendors. As you would expect, the selection is limited: ribs, hot links, brisket and pulled pork. There are about half a dozen sides, including coleslaw, barbecued beans, mac & cheese, buttery garlic corn to name a few. You have your choice of one, two or three meat selections. I chose the ribs, corn and coleslaw the meat was tender and flavorful. The corn was not soggy. The coleslaw was well dressed and still had crunch. What's great is its so close, and that what was formerly Assemble is making a coming back, revamped with cool notion of alcohol and grub collaboration in a historic, and scenic local. Of course featuring East Brothers beer is a plus! Unfortunately the Q was not on Queue. Brisket was over cooked, mealy, lacked texture and the accompanying sauce was too sweet n lacked heat. The pulled pork was great but it tasted too much like the brisket. However Brisket is not easy! The cut of meat, the rub, the sauce, the wood, the heat, cooking time etc are so exacting it straddles a tight window where it's undercooked to over cooked. And no amount of sauce can disguise it irregardless of how yummy that sauce is. Perhaps I'm spoiled by a man and his Horn... This location is totally awesome from the bay trail bikers, to bird watchers, hikers and history buffs alike. (Rosie the riveter museum and the Columbia outlet are nearby. It's a great view next to Rosie the Riveters museum. And it's damn fine que too. I had the brisket and pulled pork, perfection both ways, a little spice in the sauce. Sides were solid too, beans plus Mac n cheese. Someday I hope they get an air fryer or something and add fries. I can do without the bread they give you. Took it home and warmed up some pitas. Wow wow wow!! I ordered the one meat plate with two sides ribs, mac & cheese, and potato salad. You know good ribs when you can eat them without the sauce so I requested the sauce on the side and can I say this is one of the best ribs I've ever had. I owned a restaurant for 10 years and ours didn't even come close to this. I've been eating ribs my whole life, and I've never had a rib place that the ribs are all one size . No smaller pieces just full size . The Mac was homemade potato salad was good as well. Don't sleep on Tommy's. Great service, food and staff. read more

Great addition to the neighborhood. Got the two meat plate with sausage, brisket, Mac and cheese, and potato salad. Sausage took me back to Texas and my favorite bar b q spot Blacks in Lockhart. It was so good. Brisket had great flavor and was super tender but was a little dry. I didn't see a choice between fatty or lean and this was very lean. The only thing missing from my meal was bread, not the same without it. Mac and Cheese was good and surprisingly so was the potato salad. I usually only like my mom's . Next time I will ask for the sauce on the side. The sauce is good but good bar b q like this does not need it. At least not so much. Staff were super friendly and service was fast. Solid 4.5 stars. Meat was soft, tender, juicy, smokey, and flavorful. I got the 3 Meat combo with ribs, brisket, and pulled pork with a side of garlic corn and smoked beans for $32.99. My favorite was the ribs and brisket. The sides are good but can't compare to the meats. The beans are a little firm. I just wished there was a little bit more BBQ sauce on the meat, but that's minor. I wish they served sweet potato. It's a little windy by the bay and parking can be tough, but it's worth it. Ok my honest opinion I'll start with the good. Good: customer service was incredible from start to finish the manager was really nice and helpful with ordering (I even got to meet the owner Tommy) Brisket was tender and flavorful. Bad: for $22 brisket plate they should probably add one more slice and more of the sides (literally one mouth full of beans) Ugly: the pulled pork was a little dry and the bread was over cooked (my daughter couldn't bite through it) BUT they took responsibility ,apologized , and refunded my money as well as a piece of delicious cheese cake. I left a $5 tip and thanked them for their professionalism. The first time I walked up to this spot, there was a line out the door. Today, my wife and I finally decided to check it out. The aroma and ambiance were very inviting. There was a small mix-up with our order, causing us to wait almost an hour, and I was pretty hungry and frustrated. Stopped randomly on a Saturday late afternoon as we were in the area - hungry and tired. Looked at Yelp to see what's nearby and saw this spot and said, "why not?!" and we're glad we did. Got the three meat combo platter which was about $38 with tax and tip and everything was delicious! The bbq meats (we got brisket, ribs and hot links) tasted fresh and the sides (corn and mac & cheese) was yummy.
