Good BBQ is hard to find We found Tommy's because Yelp to the rescue... or d I thought. Many reviews were incredibly enthusiastic about the food, and for all of us foodies, that's pretty much all that it usually takes. The customer Service is absolutely a huge plus to this establishment. The people that work there are incredibly nice and very welcoming, and for that they absolutely should be commended. We decided to order the three meat and two sides plate because it was too late for lunch and too early for dinner and it was a good compromise For the three proteins, we selected brisket, beef link, which was recommended by the staff, and the pulled pork. There were two slices of brisket and the brisket, lacked seasoning, and was dry and overcooked. The pulled pork while there was seemingly a generous amount, it too, was very dry, locked any real flavor, and it just was sad. The beef link, which I was looking forward to was also overcooked, and just wasn't good. It had a rather odd texture and taste to it, and I also thought it was strange that they had pre-sliced the length for us. There's something magical about biting or cutting into a link and enjoying that first bite that breaks crispy skin as you bite into it. The mac & cheese was the showstopper! It was creamy, cheesy, and really tasty! The baked beans I'm not even sure what to say about them. They weren't sweet, they weren't tangy, they were just sad. We tried to enjoy them, but it was virtually impossible. I understand that Hercules is not known for BBQ, but that doesn't mean that it cannot exist. Hopefully Tommy's will step up their game. Since this was my first visit, I have no way of knowing if things used to be better and now aren't, or if this is just standard.
Ordering is super simple, we ordered online, arrived during the estimated window it would be done. The interior has a good sized seating area, but it seems like a lot of people just pick up to go. We were in and out pretty quickly. The food was really really good, brisket was the perfect tenderness, pulled pork was great, sides complimented the meats well. The bbq sauce was probably the best I've tasted, I'm normally not a fan of bbq sauce either. The mac and cheese was my favorite side by far. The spread of food was amazing, felt like it was priced on the higher end but didn't mind due to the food being so good and meat was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend, will be back forsure!
Absolutely one of the best bbq spots in the bay!!! Tried Tommy's bbq for the first time today and was amazed how delicious everything was, the brisket had a perfect smoke ring and was so tender you didn't even need a knife. The pork ribs fell right off the bone and the hot links were some of the best I've had. The Mac and cheese was delicious and the bbq beans were amazing. The cornbread was good could use maybe some honey butter but overall still really good. Met the owner who was working with the food staff and he was super friendly and nice. The staff was very knowledgeable about the food and made good recommendations. The inside of the restaurant is nice and cozy and best of all smells like bbq. They had several tables inside and a couple tables in front of the restaurant. Will definitely be back and will recommend to anyone who wants some delicious bbq. The bbq was delicious the regular one and the spicy one had a nice layer of heat to it.
I'm still loving the eats at Tommy's. I just wish good bbq didn't cost and arm & a leg! Got the 2 meats / 2 sides plates. Ribs & brisket still delicious! Cole slaw & mac and cheese! I forgot to ask for my sauce on the side. Oops! Service was really good. My tray was brought to me..thank you! It was really loud in here with the guys in the dining area doing what they do. But after they left, you could hear the music etc.
Ordered the two-way plate with brisket and beef links, along with baked beans and potato salad. The meat was tender, but overall the brisket lacked a bit of flavor. The beef links were better seasoned, though slightly on the dry side. The barbecue sauce was okay but leaned less sweet than I prefer. The plate comes with a slice of white bread, which is great for dipping into the sauce. The baked beans were well flavored and tender, and the potato salad was nice and thick -- probably my favorite part of the plate. My daughter ordered the single smashburger with bacon and said it was juicy and very flavorful. They offer a good variety of meats and also have dessert options. While some items stood out more than others, it's a solid spot with options worth trying.
DELICIOUS BBQ - Tommy's is a welcome addition to Hercules . We have tried both the ribs and the brisket and definitely love the ribs more . We also get the greens every time and they are so good . Mac and cheese wasn't as good and haven't had it since . Their prices are quite high but the good quality is also superb. They have other options and look forward to trying them out lots of seating and parking is plentiful . They only open from Wednesday to Sunday !! Worth the visit .
I decided to order Tommy BBQ on a Saturday night after hearing about this place so many times; I'm glad that I was able to finally give it a shot. Normally, I'm a little bit wary of anywhere that puts their sauce on directly on top of the barbecue. But I quickly found out that the sauce was not hiding the barbecue. The brisket that I ordered was very tender and had the perfect amount of smoke on it. The amount of brisket that they gave was enough to last me two meals! What was surprising was that the sides were just as good as the BBQ, I was very impressed by both the mac n cheese and bbq beans. The mac and cheese reminded me of a should food plate and the bbq beans were very well seasoned and could easily be a meal itself. I'm glad to have a great bbq place in the area and will be back soon!
Hubby loves barbecue and I'm basing this review on that. The ribs are fall off the bone tender, the chicken is good, and he likes the brisket. We especially like the fact that they offer collard greens as one of the sides. Portions are decent, you are well fed here. Service is very good, always with a smile and friendly. They're happy to accommodate you if you would like all dark meat for your chicken. This restaurant is on the small side, but there's plenty of room at the tables. Hubby thinks they do a good job on the barbecue so we will come again.
Went back to get BBQ since I was in the area. Disappointed they don't have the brisket tacos.. that needs to come back. We tried the smash burger and a 2-way. Food was ok but super disappointing to find my potato salad literally drenched in BBQ sauce. I tried to eat it anywat but it didn't work it was just all messed up. I don't know why there was bbq sauce since they gave us a tub on the side. Epic fail today to detail and attention. I guess for future ask potato salad on the side.

I went with two meats of Chicken and Brisket, with Mac and Cheese and Coleslaw as my side and a drink. 2 meat plate: The brisket was very tender and juicy. The right amount of sauce and seasoning was perfect for me. The chicken was also big as well. It was like eating a half whole chicken and the seasoning was a bit salty on this one. The Cole slaw was crispy and refreshing and the Mac and cheese was good. The slice of bread was also a nice touch. Overall, a nice dinner with my friend, although very pricey for what I paid (close to $30). Still, I enjoyed my meal and would come back again.
Good food... Friendly Staff ... You can't ask for anything better.. The greens have just as much meat in them then a half of rib. My husband's favorite side dish is the potato salad and beans. I guess you really can't go wrong.
I wanted some links and I ordered the one pound links. I'm so glad that I didn't. The links are delicious and flavorful. I walked right in and was quickly greeted and placed my order.

Blame it on these summertime BBQ commercials for the cravings! Yelp kept popping up Tommy's on my feed so we wanted to try it out for take out. Portions are good. Taste and flavors are hit and miss. The BBQ proteins tasted good, but if you are supposed to be watching your salt intake, then make sure your portion is limited and controlled. Most of the flavor comes from the BBQ sauce. The loaded potato was our favorite and more than enough for 2 people as a meal. Service and pick up was quick, order was ready when I arrived and bagged with utensils. read more
Wow, I can't believe over the weekend we finally got to try and thoroughly enjoy Tommy's BBQ in Hercules. What an absolute treat! We've been to his smash burger spot in Richmond, and my parents tried his pop up back in the day over by the Crane way Pavilion (IYKYK). We were all impressed by the overall look and feel of this spot, from initial walk-in, to the food, and service. With country music playing, a clean and bright interior, and the sweet smells of juicy meat and sides waiting, we knew we entered the right place. We tried it all! Nachos for the table to start with deliciously diced brisket, beans, chives, cheese, BBQ sauce, and more, a loaded potato with pulled pork, meat plates including the ribs, sliced brisket, chicken, and a pulled pork sandwich. Everything was amazing and done right. You could tell there was love and care in each bite, which I feel for East Bay BBQ, is important. The portions were stellar, the quality was excellent, and we enjoyed sides of corn, mac and cheese, and cole slaw. There really isn't much else to it! We sat at a long table and there were rolls of paper towels attached to it which I wish we could get our "after" pic besides just the before pics because we def got saucy! I like the innovation of the loaded nachos and potato with proteins if you don't want a sandwich or a plate..great shareables, but also great portions for your own meal (or second meal too). They also do their smash burgers here, and had key lime mini pies for dessert. No beer/wine, but soft drinks. Plenty of parking adjacent and fair pricing for BBQ. Bought a tub of potato salad from Costco and forgot to bring it out for a party. What in the world are we going to do with this much potato salad? Wash it down with BBQ! Been wanting to check out Tommy's for a while and we found an excuse to go. Bought a pound of brisket and a half rack of ribs. My whole family thought the ribs were fantastic. Meaty, smoky, tender, but still have some chew. Close to BBQ perfection. I like the sauce. They gave a ridiculous amount to go (two tubs worth). The tomato based sauce is not too sweet, with a good amount of tang and heat. The brisket is good, but we all liked the ribs better and thought the ribs were a better value. 1 lb of brisket was 4 thick cut slices lathered in brisket drippings. Excited to come back and try some of the sides. read more

YOWZA--this was excellent. Mouthwatering brisket. Delicious jalapeño cheddar links. Baked beans and mac and cheese. Devoured it so quickly it felt like a figment of my imagination when I was suddenly craving it all over again a couple hours later. Keep up the good work! Will be back. read more

Clean restaurant with seating inside and out. Staff were very and friendly and welcoming. Everything I had was good though I wouldn't say spectacular (hard to find spectacular bbq in the bay). That being said I would definitely go again! The brisket was tender and juicy, the ribs too. Though in my humble opinion everything could use just a touch more seasoning. read more

I got the 2 meat combo with double brisket, Mac & cheese and greens again. All of my food was great! The brisket was tender & delicious. I consider $31+ for a plate to be on the pricey side for readymade food to go. However, if you want delicious barbecue and a good variety of sides. I recommend! read more
Ok so I saw a video about this spot! I had no idea it was around! It looked good! I wanted to try it! So I pulled up! Nice little spot hidden in a strip mall not a ton of sitting room but there is some! I ordered on line and the customer service was attentive and got to me pretty quickly. So from the time I pressed send to pulling up was about 15 minutes and my order was ready pretty soon after I walked in. The ambience was nice menu was on the walls and it looked good and clean inside. Now to the food I ordered a two meat brisket and ribs and a pound of beef links! The brisket was pretty good fork tender, the ribs were not little they give you your moneys worth! I really like the links they appear to be made in house. The bbq sauce is ok, I asked for hot and it's not really that at all! I had coleslaw and potato salad as my sides! I believe I'm a coleslaw connoisseur and they have a banging slaw! If you like coleslaw I recommend! I also really liked the potato salad! Overall this is a 4 star spot! I'm glad I know it's here I'll be back! read more

My 3rd visit to Tommy's my be my last Rib plate normally 4 ribs, this time 3 ribs & 3 fatty gristle pieces. For 26$ you will cheat your customers. Can I post a picture? 3 fatty gristle pieces don't equal a rib. Give me what I pay for. read more
I like GOOD BBQ!! Grandson playing baseball at Pinole today. I typically hit Yelp to see what's around. I am really happy we chose Tommy's. You walk inside and it's very clean. The soft smell of smoke is present. Young lady at register was very friendly and helpful. I ordered a 2 way with ribs and brisket. BBQ beans and Cole slaw. First bite was a rib. This is the best rib I've had in years. Moist, toothy but soft, nice smoke flavor. The brisket was so moist, nice bark and smoke ring flavor is amazing. I'd order beans again but would try collards next time. I will drive from Vallejo to Tommy's in a heart heat. Entire staff knew their jobs and were very efficient. Ya Gotta Try, Tommy's!! read more

Very impressed with Tommy's BBQ. I ordered the 2 meat, 2 sides plate. I heard some locals say the price was not worth the food/too expensive, so I was pleasantly surprised to see such huge portions! If you were also wondering if this is better than Kinders, I would choose this over Kinders 10000%. $30 was my total but I added $5 for great service and suggestions by the cashier! I ordered the recommended brisket and some ribs with two sides of beans. Both meats were SUPER tender. I think there was about 4 oz of brisket (not pictured, it's under the ribs but they're 5-6 thinly cut slices of brisket about 4 in long) and 3 ribs (pictured). Rib meat was falling off the bone with the slightest tug. Brisket was not dry and cooked to perfection. Taste of each meat were distinct -- sometimes I go to BBQ joints and all the meat tastes the same. BBQ beans are smoky and have a little kick to it which I enjoyed. They have a mild and hot BBQ sauce on the side along with an untoasted piece of Texas Toast (I think). Improvements I'd like to see them make are adding mashed potatoes, yams, and/or cornbread as sides, adding beer to the menu even if it's canned, and do something with the untoasted piece of bread (even just throwing some garlic butter on it would suffice). I was happy there was somewhat of a palate cleaner with the bread, but having a plain piece of bread is kinda random. Also having wet naps available would be a helpful convenience. I would come back here again for sure. Might even have them cater my birthday in the summer. read more

Yeah I paid 68 dollars for a pound of chicken and a pound of brisket. I received my lb of brisket and not a lb of chicken not even half a lb. Very disappointed and irritated because I live too far away to go back and get the full order. I called and they don't answer the phone. Please make it right and refund me for the chicken. read more

Had this a couple times now, it's between a 3.5-4 star rating for me. The links are legit, I really liked the links. The brisket I had twice was too fatty for me. The ribs were fall off the bone and tender but lacked flavor, the sauce made up for that, I really like the sauce, sweet with a little kick and not too thick. Get the sauce on the side though, the first time I tried this place I got sauce on the meats and it was too saucy. The Mac n cheese was decent, I really really enjoyed the greens cooked to perfection, that and the links were the highlights. Not a fan of the beans. Overall the place was good not great, it came highly recommended by my clients so I had high expectations. I would eat here again. I would not do the brisket again though. Worth a try. read more

Me and my boyfriend were about to go to kinders but this popped up in our Tesla navigation . Decided to check it out and I'm so happy we did . It wasn't the food that made this a 5 star review , it was Ken's customer service as well as the bomb food ! The cashier was nice as well, overall just such amazing customer service !! We sat outside and Ken came outside to give us our food , so attentive that it caught me and my boyfriend off guard , he even made sure to ask about if we had enough bbq sauce ! I went into Assemble today and they said Tommy's BBQ was no longer there, did the close / move? Nothing on their website.
They are suppose to be moving to Hercules, Ca within the next the next few weeks. FYI... It not a good sign....moving locations... check out their website for updates.
