So I've been to quite a few bbq places in and around Austin Texas ( Franklin,Terry Blacks, Saltlick, Kreutz market ect. along with a few places in my area. Tommy's is every bit as good as these places. I had the two meat plate with brisket (the ultimate bbq test) pork ribs with beans and coleslaw. Did the pull test on the brisket and it responded perfectly. They even thru in a few burnt ends Ribs pulled from the bone easily and the finish was perfect. Coleslaw was just the way I like it, a little sweet and crisp. Beans were really good, they can be all over the place but these had the perfect finish of sweet and savory. I don't live very close to Tommy's but this will be my go to anytime to eat or bring a meal home. read more

Blame it on these summertime BBQ commercials for the cravings! Yelp kept popping up Tommy's on my feed so we wanted to try it out for take out. Portions are good. Taste and flavors are hit and miss. The BBQ proteins tasted good, but if you are supposed to be watching your salt intake, then make sure your portion is limited and controlled. Most of the flavor comes from the BBQ sauce. Wow, I can't believe over the weekend we finally got to try and thoroughly enjoy Tommy's BBQ in Hercules. What an absolute treat! We've been to his smash burger spot in Richmond, and my parents tried his pop up back in the day over by the Crane way Pavilion (IYKYK). We were all impressed by the overall look and feel of this spot, from initial walk-in, to the food, and service. With country music playing, a clean and bright interior, and the sweet smells of juicy meat and sides waiting, we knew we entered the right place. We tried it all! Nachos for the table to start with deliciously diced brisket, beans, chives, cheese, BBQ sauce, and more, a loaded potato with pulled pork, meat plates including the ribs, sliced brisket, chicken, and a pulled pork sandwich. Everything was amazing and done right. You could tell there was love and care in each bite, which I feel for East Bay BBQ, is important. The portions were stellar, the quality was excellent, and we enjoyed sides of corn, mac and cheese, and cole slaw. There really isn't much else to it! We sat at a long table and there were rolls of paper towels attached to it which I wish we could get our "after" pic besides just the before pics because we def got saucy! I like the innovation of the loaded nachos and potato with proteins if you don't want a sandwich or a plate..great shareables, but also great portions for your own meal (or second meal too). They also do their smash burgers here, and had key lime mini pies for dessert. No beer/wine, but soft drinks. Plenty of parking adjacent and fair pricing for BBQ. The food here is so good! I've had the brisket nachos and the 2 meal combo that came with ribs and hot links, Mac n cheese and greens. 10/10 highly recommend. I had to take off 1 star because they don't give you a nice portion of sides its very minimal however you can always add an extra side if you're feed more than 2 people. The store is small with a few tables you can eat inside and outside which is a nice touch. Overall i would definitely be ordering from them more because the ribs alone are a 10! read more

Good BBQ is hard to find We found Tommy's because Yelp to the rescue... or d I thought. Many reviews were incredibly enthusiastic about the food, and for all of us foodies, that's pretty much all that it usually takes. The customer Service is absolutely a huge plus to this establishment. The people that work there are incredibly nice and very welcoming, and for that they absolutely should be commended. We decided to order the three meat and two sides plate because it was too late for lunch and too early for dinner and it was a good compromise For the three proteins, we selected brisket, beef link, which was recommended by the staff, and the pulled pork. There were two slices of brisket and the brisket, lacked seasoning, and was dry and overcooked. The pulled pork while there was seemingly a generous amount, it too, was very dry, locked any real flavor, and it just was sad. The beef link, which I was looking forward to was also overcooked, and just wasn't good. It had a rather odd texture and taste to it, and I also thought it was strange that they had pre-sliced the length for us. There's something magical about biting or cutting into a link and enjoying that first bite that breaks crispy skin as you bite into it. The mac & cheese was the showstopper! It was creamy, cheesy, and really tasty! The baked beans I'm not even sure what to say about them. They weren't sweet, they weren't tangy, they were just sad. We tried to enjoy them, but it was virtually impossible. I understand that Hercules is not known for BBQ, but that doesn't mean that it cannot exist. Hopefully Tommy's will step up their game. Ordering is super simple, we ordered online, arrived during the estimated window it would be done. The interior has a good sized seating area, but it seems like a lot of people just pick up to go. We were in and out pretty quickly. The food was really really good, brisket was the perfect tenderness, pulled pork was great, sides complimented the meats well. The bbq sauce was probably the best I've tasted, I'm normally not a fan of bbq sauce either. The mac and cheese was my favorite side by far. The spread of food was amazing, felt like it was priced on the higher end but didn't mind due to the food being so good and meat was cooked to perfection. I decided to order Tommy BBQ on a Saturday night after hearing about this place so many times; I'm glad that I was able to finally give it a shot. Normally, I'm a little bit wary of anywhere that puts their sauce on directly on top of the barbecue. But I quickly found out that the sauce was not hiding the barbecue. The brisket that I ordered was very tender and had the perfect amount of smoke on it. The amount of brisket that they gave was enough to last me two meals! What was surprising was that the sides were just as good as the BBQ, I was very impressed by both the mac n cheese and bbq beans. Hubby loves barbecue and I'm basing this review on that. The ribs are fall off the bone tender, the chicken is good, and he likes the brisket. We especially like the fact that they offer collard greens as one of the sides. Portions are decent, you are well fed here. Service is very good, always with a smile and friendly. Meaty, smoky, tender, but still have some chew. Close to BBQ perfection. I like the sauce. They gave a ridiculous amount to go (two tubs worth). The tomato based sauce is not too sweet, with a good amount of tang and heat. The brisket is good, but we all liked the ribs better and thought the ribs were a better value. 1 lb of brisket was 4 thick cut slices lathered in brisket drippings. My family and I love Tommy's, we've been eating his BBQ since he was at the Richmond Marina so it's amazing how far he's taken it! The food is delicious, I usually go with the pork ribs, which are super tender. Never feel the need to put on any BBQ sauce because it's just so flavorful. The sides are probably the only thing that I feel could use some more love with taste but still good enough for me to eat all of. The staff is attentive and, even though I can't usually get through them on the phone, ordering a normal portion in person has never taken me longer than 5 minutes to get. It's also a decent price for what you get. Definitely recommend if you need a good BBQ fix read more

This place is pretty good! The smash burger was delicious, it comes with their special sauce, grilled onions, and pickles. Their pickles were sweet, which I typically don't care for, but they worked well and I enjoyed every bite. I got a single patty and found it filling but most people would probably find the double to be the perfect size. My partner got the loaded baked potato and that thing is huge!!!!!! He did it with the brisket and asked for no green onion and no jalapeno (booooo, those would've definitely set it off even more). They were NOT stingy with the meat and the brisket was tender and delicious. There were some fatty pieces but they were far and few. For me it was less than I would expect for this type of place. I don't like baked potatoes but I definitely kept helping myself to this one. We also got the one-way combo with ribs, mac, and potato salad. My partner loved the ribs, neither one of use liked the sides. The potato included beans so from what I tasted on that those were good, cant speak to them as a side. I don't consider this to be southern style BBQ, but BBQ is subjective and what's important is if it's good and if you'd eat it again. Our takeaway is that we will definitely be back for the ribs and brisket (we'll skip the sides and order by the pound), the burger, baked potato, and to try their quesabirria style tacos. It's in a shopping center so parking is easy, we did not order ahead and the wait wasn't long, and the customer service was really good. One small thing that I appreciated: When we ordered the baked potato the cashier stopped to check that they still had them, we ended up with the last one. This seems super minor and like it should be standard procedure but it's not. Ok so I saw a video about this spot! I had no idea it was around! It looked good! I wanted to try it! So I pulled up! Nice little spot hidden in a strip mall not a ton of sitting room but there is some! I ordered on line and the customer service was attentive and got to me pretty quickly. So from the time I pressed send to pulling up was about 15 minutes and my order was ready pretty soon after I walked in. The ambience was nice menu was on the walls and it looked good and clean inside. Now to the food I ordered a two meat brisket and ribs and a pound of beef links! The brisket was pretty good fork tender, the ribs were not little they give you your moneys worth! I really like the links they appear to be made in house. The bbq sauce is ok, I asked for hot and it's not really that at all! I had coleslaw and potato salad as my sides! I believe I'm a coleslaw connoisseur and they have a banging slaw! The soft smell of smoke is present. Young lady at register was very friendly and helpful. I ordered a 2 way with ribs and brisket. BBQ beans and Cole slaw. First bite was a rib. This is the best rib I've had in years. Moist, toothy but soft, nice smoke flavor. The brisket was so moist, nice bark and smoke ring flavor is amazing. Very impressed with Tommy's BBQ. I ordered the 2 meat, 2 sides plate. I heard some locals say the price was not worth the food/too expensive, so I was pleasantly surprised to see such huge portions! If you were also wondering if this is better than Kinders, I would choose this over Kinders 10000%. $30 was my total but I added $5 for great service and suggestions by the cashier! I ordered the recommended brisket and some ribs with two sides of beans. Both meats were SUPER tender. I think there was about 4 oz of brisket (not pictured, it's under the ribs but they're 5-6 thinly cut slices of brisket about 4 in long) and 3 ribs (pictured). Rib meat was falling off the bone with the slightest tug. Brisket was not dry and cooked to perfection. Taste of each meat were distinct -- sometimes I go to BBQ joints and all the meat tastes the same. BBQ beans are smoky and have a little kick to it which I enjoyed. They have a mild and hot BBQ sauce on the side along with an untoasted piece of Texas Toast (I think). Improvements I'd like to see them make are adding mashed potatoes, yams, and/or cornbread as sides, adding beer to the menu even if it's canned, and do something with the untoasted piece of bread (even just throwing some garlic butter on it would suffice). I was happy there was somewhat of a palate cleaner with the bread, but having a plain piece of bread is kinda random. Also having wet naps available would be a helpful convenience. Had this a couple times now, it's between a 3.5-4 star rating for me. The links are legit, I really liked the links. The brisket I had twice was too fatty for me. The ribs were fall off the bone and tender but lacked flavor, the sauce made up for that, I really like the sauce, sweet with a little kick and not too thick. Get the sauce on the side though, the first time I tried this place I got sauce on the meats and it was too saucy. The Mac n cheese was decent, I really really enjoyed the greens cooked to perfection, that and the links were the highlights. Not a fan of the beans. Overall the place was good not great, it came highly recommended by my clients so I had high expectations. I would eat here again. I would not do the brisket again though. Worth a try. read more
