VALUE & DELICIOUS! I cannot tell you enough good things about Tommy's barbecue. They are consistently good and never disappoints. Juicy melt in your mouth brisket. They run out of bbq ribs. They surprised us by adding burnt ends without asking for it. They continuously are generous. Love their Cole slaw! They changed their bread from the Texas toast yellow bread to a thicker kind of wonder bread which was AWESOME! I hope they keep the white bread because it's not dry. First time here, and so glad we tried it! Soon as we walked in we were welcomed in, was informed about there new item the Smash burger and there brisket taco. Everything was delicious Ribs was seasoned well tender and juicy doesn't even need bbq sauce Chicken was juicy as well. Potato salad tasted delicious, and the Greens was great, not a fan of Mac and cheese but there was actually good. The Brisket taco was different but in a good way everything that was on it blended well together the brisket was juicy and seasoned well. After passing by this place on my way to Home Depot I gave Tommy's BBQ a try. I had the Mac & Cheese and Coleslaw. I have to admit the sides were good. I definitely love the Mac & Cheese...much better than Panera Beard version. The Coleslaw is alot better compare to having it at KFC. Is Tommy's BBQ a threat to Kinders? I don't see both Tommy's BBQ a threat to Kinders since both serve different BBQ. I check out how they slice the brisket which was marvelous. I am upset that my eating habits has change. Grab a two item plate for lunch. Got the ribs and brisket along with the Mac and cheese and potato salad. Cost $30 but it was enough food for two meals. Food was good overall. I preferred the ribs over the brisket but both were good. Nothing to make a trip for but good lunch. I would say it has a slight edge over kinders in term of taste and value. read more

It can be difficult to find a good BBQ restaurant, especially if you are used to having family BBQ's. The first time I tried Tommy's BBQ with friends I ordered the two meat plate ($40.99 two meats and two sides). I chose the brisket, pork hot links, collard greens and potato salad with hot bbq sauce. I also ordered a slice of banana pudding cheesecake and a glass bottle of coke (yes, the coke in the glass bottle does taste different/better idc what anyone says). The brisket was extremely tender and had the little bits of fat that I like. The pork hot links weren't spicy to me (I have a high spice tolerance) but they were flavorful. The greens were lightly seasoned (which is to be expected at a bbq restaurant) and the potato salad (which I was nervous about.. iykyk everybody's potato salad is not created equally) was really good and had a great consistency (perfectly balanced between being chunky and smooth).. This was my first time having banana pudding cheesecake and it was really tasty too! Overall I enjoyed my meal so much so I went back the next week and ordered the same exact thing. I've been several times since then and everyone I've brought enjoyed their food as well. Others I've dined with have tried the coleslaw, ribs and brisket nachos and really enjoyed their meals as well. Their portion sizes are also great. I will even be having Tommy's BBQ for an upcoming holiday gathering with family. I love how clean the restaurant always is, how the food comes out fast and hot served in to-go containers and how friendly the staff is! Hi all, finally got to try Tommy's BBQ in Hercules. This is a local bbq shop to me in a town which already has Kinders. I placed a take out order of a two item plate which consisted of ribs, pulled pork, bbq beans, and potato salad. We also ordered a brisket sandwich and a side of macaroni and cheese. We had lunch with some friends who ordered a three item plate (ribs, brisket, pulled pork) and two sides bbq beans and potato salad. We got a chicken nacho as well to share. The food was ready to go by the time we got there about 15 mins later. The shop was open, clean with plenty of seating area. The staff was nice and they offered us some extra bbq sauce. The great: pulled pork, brisket, ribs, and chicken. The bbq beans and potato salad. All these items were delicious and the portions was generous! I was feeling quite full with plenty of leftovers. The ok: the chicken nachos with jalapeños were soggy. I usually chalk this up to the to go container and the item being really hot. We also thought the macaroni n cheese side was nothing to rave about. All in all a great first experience. I definitely think Tommy's has the better bbq than Kinders in town. I remember this place when it was in the Rosie the Riveter location but that was before covid so I couldn't remember how the food was. In any case, I thought I'd go again to see. I ordered the 3 meat platter with ribs, brisket, links, and the sides were mac n cheese, and collard greens. The ribs were very tender but lacking smoke and bbq flavor. I don't think they smoked them only but I could be wrong. The brisket was a little dry except for the fatty part which is a given for brisket. The links were good, nice flavor to them and the bbq sauce was okay. The mac n cheese was lacking some cheese and seasoning. I'm in the middle of eating my food right now and I'm extremely impressed. The brisket is so tender you can pull it apart with barely any force. The meat is super soft and tender on the bite it melts in your mouth. The sides were pretty solid as well, Mac and cheese isn't anything too special but it's tasty and cheesy and pairs nicely with the bbq like Mac and cheese should. The sauce is great too, mildly spicy/hot, smoky, sweet and just goes very well with the seasonings on the meat. though I think next time I'll ask for it on the side so I can appreciate that nice smoke ring on the brisket more. I really wanted to try the ribs so it sucks that they sold out early but maybe next week or next month I'll have the free time to stop by right when they open to pick some up. First time trying this and the turnout was pretty well. An actual bbq restaurant, there meats are soft and tender. Brisket was not dry but fresh. Ribs had the meat falling off the bone, and sausage links had two different types of flavor. I'm a fan of texas toast but to me this texas toast felt like it had too much batter, thick, and bland without the garlic butter. Mac n cheese was great! The service was organized as a crew. Meat order is placed, one person cuts the meat, the other prepares the meal, and lastly person at cashier handles the orders being taken and hands food to the customer. Tommy's BBQ is a welcome addition to Hercules. I had them bookmarked for a long time. I just never got to their popup inside the Assembly Market in Richmond. When I saw the opening soon sign in Hercules I drove by regularly to see if they had opened. All I could think about was BBQ. It seemed to take forever. Every time I have stopped here they have been busy. The last time there were two different food delivery services picking up. Even midday and midweek the restaurant was busy. A big plus is it is easy to park. I peered over the counter to look at all the smoky meats. The brisket looked tasty; brisket is not my favorite cut of beef. I wanted to try the links. When I placed my order I asked if they made the links in-house. They did. I ordered the 1 meat plate with two sides each time I have been here. They now have two different levels of spice in their sauces. The links have the perfect texture. When they are made in-house there is a noticeable difference. I also enjoyed the sides. I have had: corn, potato salad, and coleslaw. I am not much of a fan of beans. However, It did seem that every order that passed me by as I was waiting had beans on the plate. I have enjoyed everything I tried. I am not sure if this will completely replace my favorite spot in Berkeley I have been going there for years. The advantage of that location is a sandwich is just a smaller order, not an actual sandwich. The disadvantage is fewer leftovers. read more

This review is way overdue! Tommy's BBQ has always been good, solid food! The flavors and quality has always been top notch. Yes, they have been out of some of our favorite items at times but that shows how successful and tasty their food is. My husband is a BBQ guy, he smokes and grills all the time but Tommy's is where we go when he does not have time to do it himself! My husband's 60th birthday was last year and I had Tommy's cater the food. Not only was the food fantastic but was earlier than scheduled which gave us time to set up the tables. The food was a hit and many of our friends have let us know they have gone to Tommy's BBQ to pick up food as well as dine in. Insanely perfect brisket. Ribs are super meaty. Flavor of ribs: I have had better, but these are quite good. Chicken is a hard pass- next time double up on brisket. The beans are super delicious with a chile flavor. The slaw was so good! Corn was bad tasted like generic canned corn with a ton of added salt. Bbq sauces are tasty- hot is not too hot. The Texas cut bread tasted stale and tasted a bit moldy. Soda is one size - pretty small, but you can get refills. Seating inside high and low tables and a few tables out side in front too. The beef rib and beef brisket were extremely salty and the beef rib tasted like propane gas... or had the flavor reminiscent of a gas grill! No smoke flavor just salty and propane. The pork ribs were ok but I wouldn't recommend anyone to come here. This doesn't taste like traditional bbq AT ALL! Wanted to try a new (to me) bbq place. Decided to check out Tommy's as it's local and seemed on par with other bbq restaurants offering combo plates. In the current economy, $27.99 for a 2 way with 2 sides seems reasonable. Their smoked brisket which seems to be the star of the menu is cooked perfectly; and has a great smoky flavor and is very tender. Wish they offered "burnt ends." I also got their beef links, which were good, but the star is definitely the brisket. BBQ baked beans have a nice kick of spice to them. Collard greens cooked well with a bit of pulled pork sprinkled on top. My one-star off is because I found the mild bbq sauce to be a little too sweet. It could use a little more smokiness or some acid to take the sweetness down a bit. I might try their hot to compare next time. I'm personally a fan of more savory and vinegar kick or N. Carolina mustard based bbq sauce. They give a big piece of Texas toast bread - but not toasted- to sop up any sauce. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of ribs you received but again at a price. I also had mac 'n cheese and potato salad. I think the ribs here are among the best. I especially like the ones with a nice amount of fat. I elected to eat half of my order and save the rest to another time. Two meals make it more bearable. I ate outside. Tommy's BBQ & Company located in Hercules is one of my new favorite spots. My sister took me and my hubby there for a quick lunch. She has raved about their Brisket sandwich as well as the ribs. All 3 of us decided on the Brisket sandwich along with a side of potato salad and collard greens. The brisket sandwich is served on a potato bun & stacked 3 inches high and it's topped off with a layer of coleslaw. Every single bite was pure heaven with just the right amount of BBQ sauce, the meat is so tender, seasoned to perfection and the crunch of that coleslaw added texture. The potato salad was delicious and the Collars greens were meaty and delicious as well. I would loved those greens on rice. The service was very good and fast. You place your order at the counter and your food is brought to you in dining area which is clean as bright. We were so hungry we didn't take pictures of our food, however there are some good pics already on Yelp. My only regret, I didn't order a rack of pork ribs to take home for dinner. I will be back soon. If you are a brisket lover, this brisket will "knock your socks off". I cant wait to head back to Hercules for more of Tommy's BBQ yumminess! read more

First off the ribs were some of the meatiest ribs I've had but they had minimal flavor, even with the bbq sauce which was thin. The beef links were good but hard to chew because the casing was so thick and inedible, so remove the casing before eating them. Potato salad had to be store bought. The beans were ok but more of a chili bean as opposed to actual baked beans. The service was top tier but the taste doesn't match the price so I don't think I'll be back. read more

No star at all! Disgusting, horrible service, deliberately loaded my food with an inordinate amount of fat after I requested, "would you put as little fat as possible," on my mobile order. When I asked if my request was honored a older worker, who I hope was not Tommy, acted like he did not know what I was talking about then he said, "yes we honored your request and cut the fat off ESPECIALLY for you." I noticed the female workers tapping their fingers together, what I later found out was clocking me and rolling their necks like, he told her. When I got home, I found almost a half cup of diced and pieces of fat on my almost $30,00 loaded potato! I started to go back and smear it all over his windows but I don't need that smoke. They've been here a year and I finally tried them! Gotta be the best BBQ in all the Bay (not that I've tried many). Brisket Sandwich comes on a soft & hardy potato bun with freshly crisp slaw. They pile on the meat that pulls part with just a touch and melts in your mouth. Sauce cup is included and all you need is a drizzle to get the bold flavor. Got a side of potato salad and it's up there in my top 5. We also got the 2 meat combo, Ribs & Brisket, 2 sides, & a slice of bread. The Brisket is cut thick, holds up when picked up, but pulls easily apart. The perfectly rendered fat makes for a moist bite of the best Brisket probably in a 200 mile radius. The ribs are meaty spareribs, tender and plenty smokey. No sauce needed, but definitely makes for an even more irresistible bite! Sides of BBQ beans and mac & cheese were good compliments. The BBQ beans are almost like a chili, but cleaner sauce with a smokey sweet & savory BBQ flavor. I could eat them for a meal on their own, but soon would find myself on the moon. The Mac is more cheddar forward and has a nice ratio between the cheese and pasta. Pictures are unnecessary as you definitely will be getting your fix here! I'm glad I read the owners comment and decided to reconsider giving this place another chance. Much better this time. I ordered the two meat plate: brisket and ribs with beans and greens (I had to give them another try if I was really going to give them another try). Ribs were just a tad bit fatty but I think it was to be expected considering the nice size of the ribs. Not too fatty, but a bit more than I enjoyed. The flavor of the meat was delish, I got the medium sauce! The meat was well seasoned which I enjoyed. My only regret for this order was that I didn't order TWO sides of the beans. The beans have a subtle Smokey and good pepper flavor to them which I also enjoyed. The greens this time did not taste like there was too much vinegar but they lacked a little flavor/seasoning. It was still better tasting than the last time I had them. Overall I would recommend giving it at least a few tries.
