Blame it on these summertime BBQ commercials for the cravings! Yelp kept popping up Tommy's on my feed so we wanted to try it out for take out. Portions are good. Taste and flavors are hit and miss. The BBQ proteins tasted good, but if you are supposed to be watching your salt intake, then make sure your portion is limited and controlled. Most of the flavor comes from the BBQ sauce. The loaded potato was our favorite and more than enough for 2 people as a meal. Service and pick up was quick, order was ready when I arrived and bagged with utensils.
Wow, I can't believe over the weekend we finally got to try and thoroughly enjoy Tommy's BBQ in Hercules. What an absolute treat! We've been to his smash burger spot in Richmond, and my parents tried his pop up back in the day over by the Crane way Pavilion (IYKYK). We were all impressed by the overall look and feel of this spot, from initial walk-in, to the food, and service. With country music playing, a clean and bright interior, and the sweet smells of juicy meat and sides waiting, we knew we entered the right place. We tried it all! Nachos for the table to start with deliciously diced brisket, beans, chives, cheese, BBQ sauce, and more, a loaded potato with pulled pork, meat plates including the ribs, sliced brisket, chicken, and a pulled pork sandwich. Everything was amazing and done right. You could tell there was love and care in each bite, which I feel for East Bay BBQ, is important. The portions were stellar, the quality was excellent, and we enjoyed sides of corn, mac and cheese, and cole slaw. There really isn't much else to it! We sat at a long table and there were rolls of paper towels attached to it which I wish we could get our "after" pic besides just the before pics because we def got saucy! I like the innovation of the loaded nachos and potato with proteins if you don't want a sandwich or a plate..great shareables, but also great portions for your own meal (or second meal too). They also do their smash burgers here, and had key lime mini pies for dessert. No beer/wine, but soft drinks. Plenty of parking adjacent and fair pricing for BBQ. We already can't wait to come back ~ I have my eye on those hot links! Thank you for bringing the vibes to Hercules.
Good BBQ is hard to find We found Tommy's because Yelp to the rescue... or d I thought. Many reviews were incredibly enthusiastic about the food, and for all of us foodies, that's pretty much all that it usually takes. The customer Service is absolutely a huge plus to this establishment. The people that work there are incredibly nice and very welcoming, and for that they absolutely should be commended. We decided to order the three meat and two sides plate because it was too late for lunch and too early for dinner and it was a good compromise For the three proteins, we selected brisket, beef link, which was recommended by the staff, and the pulled pork. There were two slices of brisket and the brisket, lacked seasoning, and was dry and overcooked. The pulled pork while there was seemingly a generous amount, it too, was very dry, locked any real flavor, and it just was sad. The beef link, which I was looking forward to was also overcooked, and just wasn't good. It had a rather odd texture and taste to it, and I also thought it was strange that they had pre-sliced the length for us. There's something magical about biting or cutting into a link and enjoying that first bite that breaks crispy skin as you bite into it. The mac & cheese was the showstopper! It was creamy, cheesy, and really tasty! The baked beans I'm not even sure what to say about them. They weren't sweet, they weren't tangy, they were just sad. We tried to enjoy them, but it was virtually impossible. I understand that Hercules is not known for BBQ, but that doesn't mean that it cannot exist. Hopefully Tommy's will step up their game. Since this was my first visit, I have no way of knowing if things used to be better and now aren't, or if this is just standard.
Ordering is super simple, we ordered online, arrived during the estimated window it would be done. The interior has a good sized seating area, but it seems like a lot of people just pick up to go. We were in and out pretty quickly. The food was really really good, brisket was the perfect tenderness, pulled pork was great, sides complimented the meats well. The bbq sauce was probably the best I've tasted, I'm normally not a fan of bbq sauce either. The mac and cheese was my favorite side by far. The spread of food was amazing, felt like it was priced on the higher end but didn't mind due to the food being so good and meat was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend, will be back forsure!
I'm still loving the eats at Tommy's. I just wish good bbq didn't cost and arm & a leg! Got the 2 meats / 2 sides plates. Ribs & brisket still delicious! Cole slaw & mac and cheese! I forgot to ask for my sauce on the side. Oops! Service was really good. My tray was brought to me..thank you! It was really loud in here with the guys in the dining area doing what they do. But after they left, you could hear the music etc.
Ordered the two-way plate with brisket and beef links, along with baked beans and potato salad. The meat was tender, but overall the brisket lacked a bit of flavor. The beef links were better seasoned, though slightly on the dry side. The barbecue sauce was okay but leaned less sweet than I prefer. The plate comes with a slice of white bread, which is great for dipping into the sauce. The baked beans were well flavored and tender, and the potato salad was nice and thick -- probably my favorite part of the plate. My daughter ordered the single smashburger with bacon and said it was juicy and very flavorful. They offer a good variety of meats and also have dessert options. While some items stood out more than others, it's a solid spot with options worth trying.
DELICIOUS BBQ - Tommy's is a welcome addition to Hercules . We have tried both the ribs and the brisket and definitely love the ribs more . We also get the greens every time and they are so good . Mac and cheese wasn't as good and haven't had it since . Their prices are quite high but the good quality is also superb. They have other options and look forward to trying them out lots of seating and parking is plentiful . They only open from Wednesday to Sunday !! Worth the visit .
I decided to order Tommy BBQ on a Saturday night after hearing about this place so many times; I'm glad that I was able to finally give it a shot. Normally, I'm a little bit wary of anywhere that puts their sauce on directly on top of the barbecue. But I quickly found out that the sauce was not hiding the barbecue. The brisket that I ordered was very tender and had the perfect amount of smoke on it. The amount of brisket that they gave was enough to last me two meals! What was surprising was that the sides were just as good as the BBQ, I was very impressed by both the mac n cheese and bbq beans. The mac and cheese reminded me of a should food plate and the bbq beans were very well seasoned and could easily be a meal itself. I'm glad to have a great bbq place in the area and will be back soon!
Absolutely one of the best bbq spots in the bay!!! Tried Tommy's bbq for the first time today and was amazed how delicious everything was, the brisket had a perfect smoke ring and was so tender you didn't even need a knife. The pork ribs fell right off the bone and the hot links were some of the best I've had. The Mac and cheese was delicious and the bbq beans were amazing. The cornbread was good could use maybe some honey butter but overall still really good. Met the owner who was working with the food staff and he was super friendly and nice. The staff was very knowledgeable about the food and made good recommendations. The inside of the restaurant is nice and cozy and best of all smells like bbq. They had several tables inside and a couple tables in front of the restaurant. Will definitely be back and will recommend to anyone who wants some delicious bbq. The bbq was delicious the regular one and the spicy one had a nice layer of heat to it.
Hubby loves barbecue and I'm basing this review on that. The ribs are fall off the bone tender, the chicken is good, and he likes the brisket. We especially like the fact that they offer collard greens as one of the sides. Portions are decent, you are well fed here. Service is very good, always with a smile and friendly. They're happy to accommodate you if you would like all dark meat for your chicken. This restaurant is on the small side, but there's plenty of room at the tables. Hubby thinks they do a good job on the barbecue so we will come again.
Went back to get BBQ since I was in the area. Disappointed they don't have the brisket tacos.. that needs to come back. We tried the smash burger and a 2-way. Food was ok but super disappointing to find my potato salad literally drenched in BBQ sauce. I tried to eat it anywat but it didn't work it was just all messed up. I don't know why there was bbq sauce since they gave us a tub on the side. Epic fail today to detail and attention. I guess for future ask potato salad on the side.
Was meeting my friend for dinner and he suggested this place to go to. I am always down for BBQ, so I decided to give this place a try. Ordering is simple, you ask for what style of food you want (plate or sandwich or something else) and you choose your protein and side. I went with two meats of Chicken and Brisket, with Mac and Cheese and Coleslaw as my side and a drink. 2 meat plate: The brisket was very tender and juicy. The right amount of sauce and seasoning was perfect for me. The chicken was also big as well. It was like eating a half whole chicken and the seasoning was a bit salty on this one. The Cole slaw was crispy and refreshing and the Mac and cheese was good. The slice of bread was also a nice touch. Overall, a nice dinner with my friend, although very pricey for what I paid (close to $30). Still, I enjoyed my meal and would come back again.
Good food... Friendly Staff ... You can't ask for anything better.. The greens have just as much meat in them then a half of rib. My husband's favorite side dish is the potato salad and beans. I guess you really can't go wrong.
Reviews are largely positive. Diners highlight the tender brisket and ribs, enjoyable sides, and friendly, attentive service. The space is welcoming.

Me and my boyfriend were about to go to kinders but this popped up in our Tesla navigation . Decided to check it out and I'm so happy we did . It wasn't the food that made this a 5 star review , it was Ken's customer service as well as the bomb food ! The cashier was nice as well, overall just such amazing customer service !! We sat outside and Ken came outside to give us our food , so attentive that it caught me and my boyfriend off guard , he even made sure to ask about if we had enough bbq sauce ! I never really write reviews but good customer service nowadays is hard to find ! Left a google review as well ! Ordered under Chad (: Thank you!!!! read more

Okay portions, but meat was overly Smokey tasting and I attribute that for buying it later in the evening. I will give them another try without that bbq sauce as well which is a no for me. Please don't change your portion size @ $30.00 smh. read more

A friend recommended this restaurant to us so we decided to give it a try. When you walk in, omg... it smells so good!! We ordered the 3-way combo plate with brisket, chicken, and pulled pork. We enjoyed the food, and I do recommend supporting this small business. The banana pudding cheesecake was good, but wished they had the key lime dessert. Service was good. The person that took our order was very helpful, being our first time there. Do check this establishment out and support small business. read more

Picked up our food to go. Ordered the rib and brisket combo with baked beans & Mac n cheese. The meat was actually really good. I liked the brisket and it was very tender and flavorful. The ribs were good but slightly salty for me and not as tender or Smoky as I was hoping for. Also this is personal preference but I really prefer my sauce on the side so I can taste the bbq in its true form. The sauce was already all over the bbq and as pretty as it looked I didn't really like the flavor. I did not like the sides. They were not horrible but I gave most of the Mac to my toddler and I barely touched the beans. Also they didn't really have anything good to drink other than fountain drinks. It would be nice if they had maybe like a house lemonade or something refreshing to go with their meats. Would order the brisket again but wouldn't get the sauce. read more

Been wanting to check out Tommy's and last night was the perfect opportunity as I was in the area and had to rush home to help out with the "trick or treaters"...ordered an online 2-item plate...some of the best smoked brisket and ribs I've had in awhile...very tangy and tasty mild sauce, but the sides....mac&cheese and cole slaw did the job but will probably try something different the next time...DEFINITELY coming back for more, and hope it's soon...!!! Fast, easy and convenient online ordering....easy pick-up, all ready to go when I arrived...thanks, Tommy's...!!! read more

Beware of small portions and steep pricing!!! Decided to try this place out, but sadly was disappointed. Paid $40 for a three meat plate (double brisket and pork rib), but got only 3 slices of brisket and 2 pork ribs. Total rip off... read more
I'm in the middle of eating my food right now and I'm extremely impressed. The brisket is so tender you can pull it apart with barely any force. The meat is super soft and tender on the bite it melts in your mouth. The sides were pretty solid as well, Mac and cheese isn't anything too special but it's tasty and cheesy and pairs nicely with the bbq like Mac and cheese should. The sauce is great too, mildly spicy/hot, smoky, sweet and just goes very well with the seasonings on the meat. though I think next time I'll ask for it on the side so I can appreciate that nice smoke ring on the brisket more. I really wanted to try the ribs so it sucks that they sold out early but maybe next week or next month I'll have the free time to stop by right when they open to pick some up. I hope this place sticks around for awhile, would love to continue coming here to support and have great bbq read more

VALUE & DELICIOUS! I cannot tell you enough good things about Tommy's barbecue. They are consistently good and never disappoints. Juicy melt in your mouth brisket. They run out of bbq ribs. They surprised us by adding burnt ends without asking for it. They continuously are generous. Love their Cole slaw! They changed their bread from the Texas toast yellow bread to a thicker kind of wonder bread which was AWESOME! I hope they keep the white bread because it's not dry. It's soft and taste good with bbq. The restaurant is small and clean! Nicely decorated. This is our go to bbq in Contra Costa! read more

The staff were kind enough to help us to the car with the order. They supplied everything for us! The family loved the food.. we had brisket which was everyone's fav! The ribs and they were delicious, bbq baked beans amazing. And Mac and cheese. The pictures don't the it justice. Thank you for making this whole process seamless and of course the great BBQ read more

First time here, and so glad we tried it! Soon as we walked in we were welcomed in, was informed about there new item the Smash burger and there brisket taco. Everything was delicious Ribs was seasoned well tender and juicy doesn't even need bbq sauce Chicken was juicy as well. Potato salad tasted delicious, and the Greens was great, not a fan of Mac and cheese but there was actually good. The Brisket taco was different but in a good way everything that was on it blended well together the brisket was juicy and seasoned well. Ended our meal with the banana cheesecake rich and creamy. read more

Hi all, finally got to try Tommy's BBQ in Hercules. This is a local bbq shop to me in a town which already has Kinders. I placed a take out order of a two item plate which consisted of ribs, pulled pork, bbq beans, and potato salad. We also ordered a brisket sandwich and a side of macaroni and cheese. We had lunch with some friends who ordered a three item plate (ribs, brisket, pulled pork) and two sides bbq beans and potato salad. We got a chicken nacho as well to share. The food was ready to go by the time we got there about 15 mins later. The shop was open, clean with plenty of seating area. The staff was nice and they offered us some extra bbq sauce. The great: pulled pork, brisket, ribs, and chicken. The bbq beans and potato salad. All these items were delicious and the portions was generous! I was feeling quite full with plenty of leftovers. The ok: the chicken nachos with jalapeños were soggy. I usually chalk this up to the to go container and the item being really hot. We also thought the macaroni n cheese side was nothing to rave about. All in all a great first experience. I definitely think Tommy's has the better bbq than Kinders in town. We will definitely be back! read more

I remember this place when it was in the Rosie the Riveter location but that was before covid so I couldn't remember how the food was. In any case, I thought I'd go again to see. I ordered the 3 meat platter with ribs, brisket, links, and the sides were mac n cheese, and collard greens. The ribs were very tender but lacking smoke and bbq flavor. I don't think they smoked them only but I could be wrong. The brisket was a little dry except for the fatty part which is a given for brisket. The links were good, nice flavor to them and the bbq sauce was okay. The mac n cheese was lacking some cheese and seasoning. The collard greens were okay, could've used some more seasoning and smoky flavor. read more

First time trying this and the turnout was pretty well. An actual bbq restaurant, there meats are soft and tender. Brisket was not dry but fresh. Ribs had the meat falling off the bone, and sausage links had two different types of flavor. I'm a fan of texas toast but to me this texas toast felt like it had too much batter, thick, and bland without the garlic butter. Mac n cheese was great! The service was organized as a crew. Meat order is placed, one person cuts the meat, the other prepares the meal, and lastly person at cashier handles the orders being taken and hands food to the customer. Quite busy on a Saturday night, although prices are a bit high but the quality of meat matters. read more

It can be difficult to find a good BBQ restaurant, especially if you are used to having family BBQ's. The first time I tried Tommy's BBQ with friends I ordered the two meat plate ($40.99 two meats and two sides). I chose the brisket, pork hot links, collard greens and potato salad with hot bbq sauce. I also ordered a slice of banana pudding cheesecake and a glass bottle of coke (yes, the coke in the glass bottle does taste different/better idc what anyone says). The brisket was extremely tender and had the little bits of fat that I like. The pork hot links weren't spicy to me (I have a high spice tolerance) but they were flavorful. The greens were lightly seasoned (which is to be expected at a bbq restaurant) and the potato salad (which I was nervous about.. iykyk everybody's potato salad is not created equally) was really good and had a great consistency (perfectly balanced between being chunky and smooth).. This was my first time having banana pudding cheesecake and it was really tasty too! Overall I enjoyed my meal so much so I went back the next week and ordered the same exact thing. I've been several times since then and everyone I've brought enjoyed their food as well. Others I've dined with have tried the coleslaw, ribs and brisket nachos and really enjoyed their meals as well. Their portion sizes are also great. I will even be having Tommy's BBQ for an upcoming holiday gathering with family. I love how clean the restaurant always is, how the food comes out fast and hot served in to-go containers and how friendly the staff is! It's safe to say I've found a good reliable BBQ restaurant and I would definitely recommend it! read more

This is my first time here. Food: the briskets are decent. The pork ribs are much better than the briskets. The garlic corns are salted too generously. The baked beans are so so. The Mac and cheese is ok, and the coleslaw is ok too. Overall, it's a okay meal. Service: it is a go and order spot. There are seats inside the shop. Once you order they will bring your food out to you. The service is on par. Ambiance: family and friends spot. read more

I had the two meat two sides combo. I elected to have double order of pork ribs with mild sauce. Inflation has caught up with prices. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of ribs you received but again at a price. I also had mac 'n cheese and potato salad. I think the ribs here are among the best. I especially like the ones with a nice amount of fat. I elected to eat half of my order and save the rest to another time. Two meals make it more bearable. I ate outside. When you arrive you order and wait for it. They had some outdoor entertainment this afternoon. The quality is good. read more

Went back cause I had a grab something from Home Depot and been craving bbq.i know my last review of this spot wasn't too great but like I mentioned I like to support small businesses if I can and I like bbq.all I got today was brisket.to my surprise, was very tasty!had the right smog smoke, nicely seasoned (not too salty)and very tender.so to put things into perspective,I ate it when it was cold(room temperature)because I completely forgot about it.will continue to buy bbq from here as life gets too busy for me to cook my own, also with meat being so expensive,I don't wanna smoke a whole brisket cause my family won't eat it read more

It's great to have a local BBQ place and local business! I really appreciate Tommy's opening in my hood. I shared a 3 way plate with my son: ribs, brisket and pulled pork, Mac and cheese, and corn. The meats were very good. The brisket had a good amount of fat and was tender. It also had great bark on it. Ribs were tender with a nice ring and smoky flavor. The pulled pork had too much sauce. Next time I'll get the sauce on the side. Mac and cheese and the corn was ok. I think they can improve on the sides. I will definitely come here again. There are some large and small tables inside and a few tables outside. The staff was really nice! read more

I ordered the two way plate -ribs and brisket with 2 sides; macaroni and cheese, baked beans. The ribs were tender and the bbq mild sauce was flavorful. The brisket was tender, moist and tasty. I like the bbq sauce so much that next I will add it to the brisket. The macaroni and cheese was okay. The baked beans were awesome!! Tasted like chili. The restaurant is clean with indoor and outdoor seating. The staff are very friendly. There's plenty of parking. Right next to Home Depot. read more
