Dry good breakfast place. Staff is great and reason for 5 stars - the food is good breakfast food but not 5 stars - the staff puts it over the top. Came with 5 people and pancakes, waffles, eggs, quiche. The lemonade was also tasted. I would call everything good. We enjoyed the meal. This was a group who hadn't seen each other in a while so we sat for a while and never felt rushed to turn the table over which was nice. Fast, friendly service. The place was relatively busy for a Saturday morning. It's seat yourself, which saves the in itself. I say at the counter. I was greeted immediately by a waitress. I was not ready to order as it was my first time there. She did not rush me. When I did order the food can't out quickly. I eat slower than most people. Again, I was not rushed. The patrons were friendly. I struck up a few conversations while there. Also noticed they have a 96 grade from the health department. Sometimes, appearances actually aren't deceiving. From the outside, Tom's Place looks like a classic neighborhood diner, unpretentious and untouched by time. However, the amount of love it receives on local social media, coupled with some admittedly tantalizing food pics, had me thinking it was a hidden gem of a breakfast spot. Only by that measure is Tom's Place a disappointment. Nothing I tried was bad, but nothing was particularly remarkable, either. I put in a takeout order for a Greek omelet (peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms and feta) and a Dirty South (scrambled eggs, onions, peppers, Neese's sausage, ham, bacon, hash browns, and gravy) and had no trouble with pickup. Both dishes were waiting yet still hot when I arrived. The food proved to be comforting if a bit bland. The sausage gravy was a standout, but everything else seemed subdued. Portions were a decent size though not as huge as the hype suggests. At $7.75 and $9.75, Tom's prices are reasonable though other diners may have them beat. Rather than delivering a breakfast that could rival the Moose Cafe, Tom's Place offers standard Southern-inflected diner fare. It's a solid representation thereof, and I might have to come back to try the breakfast burrito, but the hands-down best breakfast in High Point it is not. read more

As I've said, once I find a favorite it's hard to waver. The Friday special Fish and chips just hits the spot. I can't find any other restaurant around that makes their fish and chips as good as Tom's Place. And the portion of fish is eye-popping. There are two large cornmeal blend breaded pieces of perfectly fried white fish. I must take one home for dinner. It's too much for me for one sitting. This is served with house made hot chips that are so good- crunchy edges, hot, a little soft in the middle. A cup of tartar sauce, coleslaw, a corn muffin and a wedge of lemon come with the dish as well. Just so yummy. Happy Friday. read more

This is a place I probably wouldn't have tried if it wasn't for some friends inviting us. Service was lovely and the food was tasty! There's not a big menu, but all choices seem tasty! We ordered the quiche and the country fried steak with its sides. First, the quiche was my favorite. That was the best quiche I've ever had haha. Really was! Sadly I got the The country fried steak, it was also very tasty and has lots of sides but man that quiche!!! I couldn't even finished my plate!! No wonder its named the "hungry boy." Lol. There isn't really a menu for just kids. So I just asked for an extra plate and split my sides with her. And ordered a parfait. All in all, the food was all very tasty. 10/10 read more

Stopped here in lieu of a fast food chain while passing through High Point on a road trip. Great decision! Not only was the food delicious, the service was lightning speed and our food was on the table unbelievably fast. I had the Greek salad, which was pretty simple but good. Lots of feta and olives on top. House made dressing came in a large cruet, so I could add it myself which was nice - not a fan of those little plastic cups filled with dressing. This was the only 'Greek' menu item - no spanakopita or anything, which was a little disappointing as those are usually my favorite diner items. Also had the Dirty South breakfast item, which was a sloppy, delicious mess of pretty much every breakfast food piled on top of each other. Recently found time to try out Tom's Place Restaurant after years of wanting to. I have to say the food was AMAZING! It was prepared perfectly and the portions were excellent! However the service was awkwardly bad... my server introduced herself as Christie, and appeared to be in her late 50's or early 60's. She acted as though she didn't have time to take my order, spoke as though she was "put out" because I had questions about the menu. It was, after all my first time there. I also witnessed her yelling at another server who appeared much younger, about a tablet used to take orders on. It was very unprofessional in my opinion to yell in front of customers the way she did. I am not sure if I would you back after this experience, it was obvious this old waitress felt like she was in charge and could talk to customers or staff any way she pleased. Yummy!! I had the Southern Omelet which had bacon, sausage, ham and cheese and was smothered in sausage gravy. (Tip: ask for extra gravy, it was that good.) I really enjoyed this omelet and i will be having it again. The hashbrowns were outstanding. They were well seasoned and i loved them. Next time i will ask for them a little extra browned but thats just a personal preference. I opted for rye toast dry and buttered it myself. If you've never had rye toast it is a foodie's delight especially with an omelet. Our server Farrah was top notch. She was funny and sweet and served our breakfast up piping hot. Stopped in this morning on a whim, 10:00am Sunday. The parking lot was full, parking tight, I knew then, good choice. Found our spot quickly. Walked in. Seat yourself sign gave us direction. We spotted an open table and sat down. Basically NO WAIT! Greeted quickly and friendly by our server, whose name totally escapes me (sorry, but you were great) we ordered Coffee and waters, put in our food order.**Insert Elevator Music.** a short while later, the most delicious breakfast I've had since moving to the Triad area was before me, an impeccable pile of Biscuits and gravy, two eggs sunny side up, hash browns, a blueberry pancake, a breakfast burrito and fresh fruit. Listen, this food smacked. Simple and delicious. The portion sizes were big enough to really leave you satisfied and tasty enough to leave you wanting for more. I have been having breakfast at Tom's every Friday for the past two months. Additionally, I had lunch there for the first time yesterday. Tom's is always consistently good, and seems to have gotten a few unfair shakes in some of the reviews I have read. For instance, the silly lady below whose experience was completely ruined by the fact she had to seat herself and felt awkward having to figure that out herself. If she had only noticed the enormous "Please Seat Yourself" sign just left of the door that has been there as long as I can remember. Yep, they let anyone use Yelp! If you find yourself at Tom's for breakfast, I recommend the liver mush or Neese's sausage. You can't go wrong with either, but I usually go with the Neese's since there don't seem to be many other places in the area that serve it. The coffee is also very good - strong and black - don't ruin it with a bunch of cream and sugar. I'm not much of a hash browns person, so I always opt for the freshly sliced tomatoes - definitely a great and tasty option if you also like an alternative. I had Tom's Burger during yesterday's lunch visit. The blue cheese makes it especially good. The highlight, however, was the homemade onion rings. Washed it all down with a chocolate milk. Perfection. Tom's is one of the nicer diners in High Point and the food has always been consistently good during my visits. Give it a shot! read more

Tom's place in High Point has a very good Sunday breakfast, and as an added bonus you can assess your spelling and grammar skills by studying the menu (see photo) and counting up how many spelling and grammar errors you can find! (Counting errors made more than once, I found about two dozen! Loads of fun for the whole family!) As for the breakfast, the eggs were perfect, the coffee was good, the Neese's sausage was delicious, and the pork tenderloin had a great flavor but was a little dry. The grits tasted- dare I say it?- too corny. The biscuit had a decent flavor but was dry. The staff was VERY nice and attentive. The price was perhaps a little high. read more

I had a very nice late breakfast here with a girlfriend this past Monday morning. She's lived in this area forever and I've been here over 3 years and neither of us have ever dined at Toms Place. We both arrived at 10:30 am and were greeted and seated immediately; modern look with cozy booths and tables. Being it was later in the morning, there were only a few customers dining but by 11:30 it was starting to fill up for lunch. Service was friendly and attentive; we weren't rushed at all. Great menu consisting of typical breakfast platters, entrees, sides and sandwiches; very happy to see healthy options like fresh fruit and yogurt with granola....which is what I ordered. It was absolutely delicious, filling and definitely hit the healthy spot which was great after a Sunday of eating and drinking. My friend ordered the platter consisting of pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage and a biscuit with country gravy; she really enjoyed it. A Wonderful Place for Sunday Brunch! My husband and I stopped in for Sunday Brunch and were so happy to find a nice clean place with great food! Everyone was so nice and professional. I've eaten breakfast here a number of times over the years, probably 20 years or longer now, and thet breakfast here is nice - huge portions, well prepared, and reasonably priced. But, I'd never eaten lunch here, until today. Frankly, I was disappointed - in the food and the length of time it took to get our order out of the kitchen - over 25 minutes for our lunch order, while 5 or 6 breakfast orders came out that were placed after ours. I specifically ask if the lunch menu was available, and was assured it was. The Spaghetti at $5.75, which comes with a large salad and bread, is a value, but the sauce is a meatless tomato sauce, and is a little sweet, but otherwise bland. The Blue Cheese Dressing for the salad was exceptional. The Fried Flounder was much less of a value at $7.75 since the portion is one rather small piece of fish.Though the fish was fried well, nice outside crust, the fish itself was mushy, and less than the freshest. The Slaw was sweet, and the Lima Beans were canned. The Cornbread was rather ordinary. Diet soad was $1.75. The Hot Dog here was pretty darn good - and good have been excellent had the roll been fresh - it wasn't, and at $2 it is no bargin. The wait service was excellent, friendly, and attentive. But overall I was not pleased. I'll still stop by for breakfast, it is good, but I'll pass on the lunch option here. read more
