Don't be shy if the front parking lot is full, plenty of parking in the rear. I was in the mood for a late-morning steak and eggs. Very reasonably priced and the rib-eye steak was very large. The 3-eggs were delicious. Could have done without the mediocre hash browns. So why only 3-stars? It was the little things. I was going to ignore that it took several minutes to even be acknowledged at the less than full counter. Ordered, asked for strawberry jam. Got my coffee and water. Super. Order came. No strawberry. Unable to get anyone's attention. Never checked on. Coffee and water ran dry. Bye Felicia. Cash only. Though there were some indications on FB that they are open on Monday's, door signage says Closed on Mondays. The little things matter. read more

Alex's House has been a High Point staple for MANY years. It has the old school diner vibes and please know it is a CASH ONLY business. Parking is VERY limited, so if you have a hankering for a diner breakfast or lunch, get there early or postpone your visit a bit and hit when it is quieter. I arrived around 1PM or so and was welcomed when I walked in and told to sit anywhere. My waitress promptly came to my table and asked about my drink choice. Menus are already at the table. I placed my order and it arrived very quickly. It was hot off the grill and tasty. The presentation was nice as well. It wasn't just slapped on the plate. I had the 3 egg special with bacon, hash browns (which was more like diced fried potatoes), buttered whole wheat toast and I added a side of sausage patties. The food was diner quality and not expensive so those watching their dollars need not worry. read more

I'm back and forth on Alex's. It's been around for quite some time and I know locals come here often for breakfast. Right off of Main Street, it's a small breakfast diner that looks like your typical old fashioned diner. I've gotten takeout many years ago, which was good, but this review is based on the latest visit - Seating is very limited as there are maybe 8 booths (?) and a few bar seats. Kind of a head scratcher when you walk in because no one really greets you nor do you know about the seating situation. You find out you pretty much have to stand and wait for an open table and then you just go there yourself. The tables are cleaned off but I absolutely noticed nothing was sprayed or wiped down. The food itself was just ok....average. Nothing great, nothing bad. They have your typical dishes and choosing of breakfast meats and eggs the way you like. I absolutely thought something was wrong with me because I really could not taste anything from the hash browns, which were more like tiny home fries. I had to verify with my partner that the hash browns had zero taste and they confirmed. It was just the strangest thing, no flavor of seasoning, potato, or even grease. read more

Let me preface this review by advising this is a CASH ONLY business. If parking is full in front, there's additional (but limited) parking in back. We came for breakfast. Husband ordered Western omelet w/hash browns and toast. I ordered sides of hash browns, sausage (only offer patties) and small grits. Be forewarned--hash browns are cubed and has some sort of seasoning (oregano?) sprinkled on them. Specials on board advertised over grill came w/hot coffee or tea. Food came out hot and expeditiously after ordering w/minimal and staff was attentive and eager to fill/top coffee. Per menu, prices include NC tax. Come early as the place fills up quickly! Great place to meet up with friends and check out a locally owned small business offering Greek/American cuisine read more

I absolutely enjoyed my experience at this cute mom and pop breakfast spot. The staff is very friendly and efficient. I love the fact that the food is made to order so the freshness is superb. The food needed absolutely no additional seasoning, very flavorful like it came from a granny's kitchen! I'll be back! read more

Alex's House Restaurant - Bacon and Sausage Omelette with Grits and White Toast. - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - High Point, North Carolina

A High Point staple, Alex's House has been around for as long as I can remember (1980, the menu says). Over the summer, my friend Jimmy and I took his wife and fellow Atlanta Yelper Angela M. here to experience a restaurant we grew up on. Nothing has changed about this place in 20 years. From inside-out, everything is the same, right down to the tiles and plates on the walls. Alex's House is a small little diner where you can get breakfast (eggs, waffles, pancakes, omelets) and well as a light lunch or dinner (sandwiches, salads, hoagies, and a few entrees like steak or chicken tenders). I'm fond of the salads, probably because I thought they made the best salads in the world in 3rd grade. There's parking in both the front and back of the restaurant. It can get busy on the weekends during breakfast and lunch hours, so you may have to wait a bit for a table to open up. Today, the food is still decent enough and service is friendly. They accept cash only and all prices on the menu already include tax. Nice. read more

First off they are a cash only restaurant which keeps prices down. If you need cash there is an ATM on-site. The place is small and there is a wait. We went in on a Sunday morning for breakfast. Breakfast was good and quick. read more

I became concerned when I walked in, looked above the grill, and saw about a dozen gallon cans of Wesson Lo (sic) Melt artery clogger. I was afraid this would be a place that served my eggs and grits swimming in this faux butter mess. Fortunately, I was wrong. Alex's House serves up a very competent breakfast. The staff is friendly and the food was fresh (see bacon note below) and cooked to order. Eggs over easy: 3 for the price of 2. Perfect and delicious. Grits: perfect consistency and good flavor Bacon: good taste. Could have been a little more crispy. Also, it was cooked about halfway early in the morning. I know this because I saw the Cook take it out of the bin and put it on the grill to finish it the rest of the way. This is a very common practice in this industry. I'm not sure if it bothers me or not. Waffle: good and correctly done, but it was sweet only and not malty. I like a waffle with a little bit of malt in it. Tenderloin: good flavor, pan fried, nicely lightly seasoned. Slightly overcooked, it was a bit dry and a bit tough. Coffee: I was pleasantly surprised. Pretty good coffee. They also have real half and half (or was it milk?) on the table. Toast: "buttered", I believe, with the aforementioned Wesson Lo (sic) Melt cooking oil. Ick. Alex's has quite a few regulars that come in, including one bearded blowhard whose loud, obnoxious voice was exceeded only by his apparent belief that he is an expert on everything. His carping with the cook about who is the best football team was amusing to a point, but it went on a little too long. Overall, Alex's house makes a pretty good breakfast. 3 1/2 stars would be a more correct rating, but if I have to choose a whole number, I'm going with three. read more

The service was great, the cook rude, when asked for eggs no grease or butter, he asked who ordered it and yelled down the bar, NO!! I'm not cooking that!! Looking as if I had done something wrong. Alex House is one of our favorite breakfast spots for good food. Sometimes there is a small wait, but it's worth it!

I was on a road trip with a friend of mine, and we stumbled upon Alex's while looking for breakfast before leaving the area. The parking lot? Impossibly tiny. The inside? Now I see why the lot is so small. They also don't take credit cards, but everything is so cheap that normal people wouldn't ned to use one (normal people being those who don't use a CC for a $3 purchase at CVS). We went in on a weekend morning and the place was packed. We waited for a table to clear up, and were ushered into a dirty table that was wiped down while we were sitting (gross? just a little). We ordered juice and breakfast (I got a waffle, sausage, egg, and a side of hash browns). It was pretty good, though the hash browns were more along the lines of cubed country potatoes. Since they were so busy, the waitress didn't pay us much attention and it took a few tries to get those potatoes she forgot initially. Overall, it was a fine breakfast quickie, but nothing super special. read more

Apparently, this was the place for many of my husband's high school friends, Daniel B included. While on a tour of HP, we of course stopped at Alex's house for lunch. Parking lot is small, but then again, if it's full, there's probably not room inside the restaurant, considering it's about the same size. While it seemed a little on the worn-down side, they did have a perfect 100 Health Rating, so they're doing the part that matters right. I opted for the large Greek Salad. It was what I would expect for a diner Greek Salad. Decent flavor, mostly iceberg lettuce, but olives still with the pits in. The house dressing comes in a huge shake bottle, which I prefer to being pre-applied. I could identify from the dressing as it separated that it was olive oil, red wine vinegar, and lots of oregano. The portion was generous. Cash only! read more

Alex's House was wonderful for breakfast! My friend was visiting from NJ and we decided to take my kids out for pancakes last Thursday morning. We got there around 9:30; plenty of parking in the back. There were a few booths and a couple of counter seats open so we took an open booth. This place is an absolute hole in the wall with minimal seating, very friendly service, hot coffee, great prices and delicious breakfast. We had a fabulous time! My kids enjoyed the big fluffy pancakes; they were warm and had a great homemade flavor. My friend and I both enjoyed eggs (his over easy, mine over hard) along with potatoes, bacon, sausage and toast. Everything was hot & delicious. The potatoes were diced small and cooked to a perfect crispiness; we were expecting traditional hash browns but were pleasantly surprised! We will most definitely be back to Alex's House for another yummy breakfast experience very soon! **cash only** read more

The place absolutely sucks. I'll never go again. I'd rate this dump zero stars if possible. The diner was dirty and the food flat out is awful. We stopped eating half way through the meal because the quality was so poor. Don't waste your time or money. Go to Carolina's Diner. read more

Good Greek salad and great marinated Greek chicken. My husband had a hamburger and liked it and the chicken strips were tasty as well. Go expecting a diner with diner food and you won't be disappointed. Bring cash, as they don't accept any other form of payment. read more

Cash is king here, no plastic allowed. Not much parking, but if you time it right as I did, you can park in front, or there's some parking in the back. The food is standard grill/diner fare, not fancy, but steady and dependable. There's limited seating, but you can sit at the bar with fine patrons. Main thing I noticed was an assortment of Duke memorabilia, so not sure how I fit in wearing my UNC cap lol! Kidding aside, it was an acceptable place for a quick Sunday breakfast. YMMV. read more

Tiny parking lot, so if you're going to go with friends, go in one car. There may be a wait, but it won't be for long, because the cook is super fast and so are the servers. This is a no-frills diner and is kind of a dive, which automatically makes it cool. I'd give it more stars if the restaurant were cleaner. The serving size is right on and it's all very affordable. the All prices conveniently already include taxes. They do not take credit cards. I'm not sure if they take checks. Sit at the counter and get a Greek omelette! And when you do, please don't be afraid to sit next to a stranger. Leaving a spot empty is kind of rude, especially when there's a line out the door! read more

High Point institution. The omelettes are great. Service is quick. Food is cheap.

Solid Diner Food! We went for breakfast on a Saturday - it was very busy but we walked in and sat right down at the counter. It was fun to watch all of the orders be cooked and sent on their way. We got the waffle and egg breakfast and the two pancakes and eggs breakfast, with a side of hashbrowns and a side of toast. Everything was delicious. The pancakes were really good! Big, fluffy, and cooked just right! I would've given them 5 stars but the only reason I didn't was because there was nothing special or "handcrafted", meaning the hashbrowns were just frozen potatoes from a bag cooked and seasoned on the griddle - don't get me wrong - they were delicious but not made from scratch. A fantastic local diner. read more
