I stopped by Summit Cafe today for the first time. I was met with friendly service and my order was taken swiftly. I was taken back by the menu not having prices listed. I ordered the vegetable omelette with home fries and toast. Came out to about 13 bucks. A little pricey for a vegetable omelette with only onions, peppers, and tomatoes. The omelette itself was okay at best. Way too many tomatoes. They were a big filler ingredient and overall the omelette lacked seasoning and flavor. The home fries were much of the same. The food was hot and fresh. It came quickly. Overall it just lacked seasoning. I would likely come back to try more things on the menu. I want to like the place but today wasn't the best first impression. Again re-emphasizing service was great, food was hot, and the atmosphere was comfortable. I say go give them a visit just maybe not the veggie omelette. read more

This place is a very small establishment on summit. Everything is cooked on the spot. The food was delicious. The people who owned it was very pleasant and helpful. Every Friday from 10am to 11am they give away delicious food. Omg the sell koolaid I was so excited! . I got fried whitening and fried shrimp salad. When I tell you it was hot and fresh out of the pan . If you're driving by you wouldn't even notice the place so drive slow. If you pass compare foods you passed it ‍. Don't make that mistake. Take a look at their menu. Lots of delicious meals. If you decide you would like something else just ask the cook, he loves cooking and he can make it if has the ingredients . Just ask. I came in on the back end of the day and experienced nothing but pleasant, smiling faces and great conversations. I ordered the Specialty Breakfast Combo with grits & home fried potatoes with the fried whiting. Everything was hot and fresh. I could only eat half of my meal and took the other half to-go. Great lunch spot! The first thing you'll notice when you walk in is how lively the crowd is. You can tell everyone loves being there. The service is great and the Philly cheesesteak I had it was absolutely fantastic. There is no shortage of good conversations in there and I will definitely have to make it there again. The service was by far the best part of my visit here and the main reason I would return. Secondary is the "at home feeling" I get from parking to leaving this restaurant. I must brag on the service for a moment. I did not get her name but the woman that helped me was soft spoken and patient, and had the kindest eyes I've seen in quite sometime. It was my first time there. Within 5 seconds of walking in the door she was in front of me with a menu and telling me to have a seat and ask her any questions I may have. I looked at the menu for a good length of time because everything looked so good. Okay finally I ordered: it was going to take 15 mins so I told her I'd be back in but would wait outside in my car for a few mins. Not even 10 mins later she was at my car window with my food. This sweet woman brought my food to my car. Okay so now about the food. The Salmon Patties were good. Seasoned well and the appropriate amount of crunch in the outside coupled with the softness of the patty on the inside felt familiar like home. The rest of the food lacked seasoning. Once I put some salt and pepper the shrimp and grits gave me my whole life. I did enjoy my lunch and I would return. I suggest you try for yourself. read more

Soul food truly reaches its pinnacle when it's cooked well, served with warmth and surrounded by the sounds of Cameo, Earth Wind and Fire and etc. I took my kid for a celebratory breakfast to mark his entrance into the teen years last week. This black-owned women's business did not disappoint. My only regret was not getting a plate to go. He had chicken and French toast. I had Salmon Patties, eggs and true hash browns cooked from real,smashed potatoes and onions (not the diced deep fried absurdities that some places call hash browns) and of course...sweetened tea. This place has reopened!!! The number is not the same but the food sure is good! A lot of people don't realize it's back in business which makes seating a breeze. The prices are still reasonable and the portions are more than adequate. I haven't tried it yet but the owner said they will also have Caribbean food on the dinner menu. read more

This place is seriously amazing! We stopped in for a quick breakfast after traveling. Very welcoming and social distancing was enforced. We ate outside with old school jams playing in the background. Friendly and prompt service. We had the salmon patties speciality breakfast and the chicken wings breakfast. The food was amazing and a lot for the price. The people here are really nice. I ordered the whiting w grits and scrambled eggs for brunch. The fish was good but had a few bones at the end. Disappointed that they only had sweet drinks (not even unsweetened tea) as an alternative. The pictures show entrees on colorful plates but they only used styrofoam and plasticware while I was there. The cook regularly cleaned when he wasn't cooking, including scraping the flat top. My only concern was I think it should be sanitized to remove pork or poultry residue, before placing seafood items. A simple wipe down wasn't sufficient in my opinion. The waitress picks up little empty packets while you eat. That's annoying for me because she's reaching over my food when she does that. The taste of the food was good but the small homeliness was clearly apparent. read more

Seriously the greatest environment! The people there are funny and happy and have a great time which makes it a light and comfortable experience. The food was great we got breakfast and a burger which was delicious and more food than we could eat. Coming from Oklahoma it's hard to find Sweet tea but these people know how to make some good ole southern sweet tea. It's not huge for a party or anything but for a family it's great! I have been in Greensboro for less than two months and I have discovered an absolute Gem. I have had breakfast at the summit cafe 5xs now and I have been consistently impressed. The food is delicious and reasonably priced but what i really love about the place is the ambiance. This place is small and intimate and relaxed and has character. I get everything I want when i go there. good food, friendly but not intrusive staff, in a relaxed enviroment. The Summit Cafe is now one of my favorite places. read more

Ok. This place is definitely a DIVE! And although I can be extremely skeptical of spots like this, the very small eating space is very clean. Now the food... whoa is it good! I had the salmon cake breakfast with eggs, potatoes with onion and peppers and tomato on the side. Good grief it felt like I was at my grandmas kitchen table. I use to frequent this spot while in college years ago. It has definitely change and for the worst. Even though the wait staff was pleasant, here were some of the issues: Chicken and fish was rather greasy, Limited food selections although the menu offered multiple choices, had to request new silverware and cups due to unclean items. Also noticed the chef responding to a customer complaint with a waitress in a negative manner. So much for customer service. read more

I Absolutely love this place for breakfast! I have lived in Greensboro for almost 30 years, I got introduced to this places almost the same time. I can say it has not failed me yet. In this place you will find tables that are so close together that you are sure to meet a new friend, you will also notice that they maybe old in structure but to me it just add charm to the place. My favorite meal and will always be the fish and grits. I simply like the fact that it cooked so tender that it blends so well in my fish yes I am a southern girl and it reminds me of home. For a restaurant with this kind of reputation, I expected fresh, well-prepared food--not something that tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp at a hotel breakfast buffet. This was our first visit, and unfortunately, it will probably be our last. Save yourself the time and money and go somewhere else for brunch.

My wood-fired filet was cooked exactly right, but it also had no seasoning, and when you find yourself asking for steak sauce for a filet, something has gone wrong in the kitchen. Then the peach crumble showed up and stole the entire night. It is genuinely amazing, and I'd tell anyone within earshot to order it. Great atmosphere, great service, great drinks, and a dessert worth the trip. If the kitchen brings the seasoning up to the level of everything else, this is easily a four-and-a-half-star restaurant.

I would NOT recommend anyone eat at this disgusting place! I was literally served grits with a roach in them. It came in a paper bowl like they don't care about cleanliness at all. The entire restaurant felt filthy & the floors were sticky like they haven't been mopped in days, and there was a nasty foul odor coming from the kitchen area. Completely unsanitary and unacceptable. This was beyond disgusting and honestly a health hazard. Save your money and your stomach by staying far away from this place yuck!!! read more

Greensboro's top 'hole in the wall' diner. Can never decide on which sandwich or to have breakfast at lunch time. Sweetened ice tea matches the best BBQ joints. Meals are under-priced (not often I say that) and a friendly crowd: customers and staff. read more

That was disappointing, and I passed it to another family member, who enjoyed it. We landed on a 7.5/10 for that one, factoring in the order mix-up.
