I was super excited to get my Elko basque dosis; this is my tradition every time I drove by. But my experience did not meet the expectations. The place: The restaurant looks the same as it did on my last visit. Booth, table and bar seating. We got a booth. I used the restroom and it was nice and clean. The Food: It was 2.40 pm and we received the lunch menu. I was really craving the butterfly filet which was a dinner item, served after 4pm, I talked to our waitress and she spoke with the chefs who were willing to serve it earlier. Basque plates come with soups or salad, green beans, French fries, rice, and pasta. My salad was good. I really like the basque dressing. I requested the filet medium rare and it was over cooked when I first cut it. I didn't request to change it because they had already gone out of their way to cook it earlier. Not only the filet was over cooked but the flavor was just plain. They put garlic on top but it still feel like it needed some flavor. - I have had this same plate and remembered it being so flavorful and cooked perfectly! The green beans were over cooked and fall apart. The rice didn't look good so I didn't even try it. The pasta was OK. Everything tasted so plain that I was surprised on how the quality of the food had decrease. The French fries were grease and saggy. My husband got the lamb chops and was disappointed at them being overcooked and not flavorful. The Service: There was a really nice waitress running the whole place. I remember her from 3 years ago when I came last. She took great care of us: Brought our food and drinks out brought the bill in a timely manner. 3 stars because I have been on the two ends: A wonderful basque experience and one not so much. Hopefully next time I visit things are back to normal. read more

Toki Ona is a good Basque family style restaurant in Elko. Soup and bread to start; a lettuce salad with amazing creamy vinegar dressing so simple yet so good. I like the lamb chops with garlic on top. These aren't shoulder chops, they are loin chops, untrimmed, so the tail of fat is left on. The sides are spaghetti with a mushroom tomato meat sauce; love it...vegetable rice, green beans, and this time I had the potatoes ana which is a baked potato au gratin. You're not going to leave this place hungry! Of course I had spumoni ice cream for desert; I can't help it... Yes it is busy on Sunday, because some of the other popular restaurants are closed Sunday. I've been here many times over many years. Very consistent. I'll be back. read more

I stopped for a meal while visiting Elko again. I try to eat here each time i am in town. the food was absolutely amazing. the lamb had a perfect flavor and the portions were ideal. My server was very attentive and no detail was missed. she had a great attitude and the speed of service was unmatched. The temperature of the food items was. just as I would expect. if you are looking for a delicious meal, please consider Toki Ona. bring your appetite. You won't be disappointed. read more

We were in Elko NV and wanted something other than the usual fast food. We have never had Basque, so we were looking forward to eating here. Less than halfway into the meal we regretted our choice. The staff was friendly and it was very busy, but the food was a big disappointment. The soup tasted like Campbell's Chicken and Stars, overly salty, watery and bland. The bread had the taste and texture of Walmart's Italian loaf, and the salad was simply chopped iceberg with too much bland, creamy dressing. My husband's fried catfish was okay, but the breading lacked any sort of seasoning. I had a pork chop which had a nice sear, but was overcooked. Both were barely warm. The side dishes consisted of (I think) frozen green beans which were cooked alright. At least they weren't from a can. The other 2 side dishes were a spaghetti noodle dish with a thin, odd tasting sauce, and rice with a spattering of carrots and peas. Both were cold and lacked any sort of seasoning. We wish we had gone to Wendy's. read more

What an amazing restaurant! First time I came here was 15 years ago, when I'm in town usually 3 to 4 times a week we eat there! Not a bad thing on the menu! If you're in Elko, go here!!! read more

I dont know why the reviews are low on yelp, on Google they are above 4 stars. I just ate here for the first time. I pass through Elko about once every 3 months. I have an Italian place I love for the atmosphere but the food here is so good!! I am very hard to please because I am an excellent cook. Many have suggested I cater or open a resturant. From the homemade creamy garlic salad dressing to the stuffed shrimp and mushroom, stuffed with real crab and no bread filler for the crab stuffing. A literal 7 course meal! It was heartwarming and scrumptious! read more

I feel like Toki became the younger brother of the Star. The food is average at best but then again, it is what you pay for! The side dishes were really not amazing but they do give you a few options! We ordered the cow tongue and steak. The cow tongue was actually really good! But the medium rare steak we ordered was cooked to the point of making sure it wouldn't come back alive ever again. Very tough! Overall an interesting experience to try out Basque family style food but probably will go to The Star the next time I would want to try out Basque food! read more

Very mediocre food. Canned green beans. Looks like frozen veggies poured into rice. Chicken Marsala was chicken Marsala soup. There is no ambiance, feels like a cafeteria. The restaurant was cold. Service was ok. Will not return. read more

This was one of the strangest places I've ever been to. Before you order anything, they bring you a big bowl of chicken soup. The best thing to do at this point is eat the soup and leave. It's the best thing they have. Other reviews have been pretty spot on. Strange mayo like dressing drenched the salad. The service is not good. The food is extremely overpriced. The food was obviously frozen and actually inedible. I couldn't eat it. I give it 3 stars simply because it was so weird. I won't return but I don't regret going. I told the manager I was unable to eat my food because it tasted like something was wrong. He corrected me and said the meat was the best meat around and he offered me a 15% discount. So, there's that. read more

Toki Ona - These are lamb chops that I didn't eat. I didn't want to get sick. Not sure what the green stuff is. Some kinda mint something probably. - Basque Near Me - Elko, Nevada

It's disheartening to see all these negative reviews as this is a local restaurant in a rural town. Regardless of it being a rural town, they stick to their traditional Basque roots. American Basque food is famous less for its refinement than for its heartiness, often a dozen or more courses served family style from enormous platters on long, communal tables. The places where it appears are often the remnants of a once-great archipelago of Basque hotels, built to serve as a bit of home for immigrant sheepherders during the early 1900. The Basques have long been one of the most prominent--and colorful--parts of Elko's community and local history. If you come in a group, be prepare to try locally prepared... but also locally made... 12 course portion food. All dinners served with soup. salad with choice of dressing, green beans, spaghetti, rice and choice of french fries, baked potato or ana potato I highly suggest going in a group because even in my party of two people, we couldn't eat everything that was prepared for us. I wouldn't advise eating by yourself! I personally had there Chicken Marsala... It was a RICH 8 oz. chicken breast coated with marsala wine, with mushrooms, tomatoes and green onion tops. It was phenomenal! You could literally taste the freshness and tenderness of the meat melt in your mouth. Apparently, the restaurant and bar is known for serving fresh, never frozen, beef, lamb, pork, chicken and seafood entrees. read more

Stopped in for a REAL late lunch. They serve lunch until 4:30 and we just slid in under the wire. I ordered the sirloin lunch and it was great. My buddy ordered a steak sandwich. With mine I got soup and salad. Great tastes and flavors across the board. If you are in town for a few days...this place would be a great restaurant to add to the mix. The service was good too. Friendly even though they were busy switching over to dinner service. read more

Been here half a dozen times, with family and on my own. Always get great hot food, excellent and friendly service. Meals come with soup and a salad, Basque style, hometown feel that's missing from so many restaurants. Now you know why the parking lot and dining is full when you drive by. Don't. Stop and get a belly full of affordable service, food and smiles. This is definitely in my top 5 places that I eat in as a local. read more

Cute little place. Staff was friendly I went right after open and they weren't ready for the day yet. It looked like a lot of younger workers. I didn't get the chance to try this place again but what amazing sandwich and cheesecake they have! Their chili was amazing as well. If I'm ever in the area I will def stop by. This is the best basque food I've ever ate in my life. This place has completely and utterly ruined me ever eating basque anywhere else. I literally want to fly my mom out from Florida, then drive 5 hours north from Gardnerville where I live, just to take her to eat here. read more

Everything was delicious! We ordered takeout. My wife got the spicy chicken pasta (nicely delicately spiced), and I ordered Basque pork chops (in a tasty spicy breading). For the pork, I asked for scalloped potatoes which were in a cheese-based sauce; I used that sauce on the chops, which made them even tastier. The salads come with a basque creamy white dressing which is also yummy. One note is that you get a TON of food for the takeout. We also got bread, side of spaghetti, soup. So, if you are not ravenous, you might do fine splitting a dish. read more

I don't usually write bad reviews but this experience was a doozie! We waited over an hour for our food. I got the ribey steak and it was awful. I ordered medium well and it was bloody. There wasn't much of a flavor and a big wierd brown spot in the center. My husband got spicy chicken pasta and had to send it back because there was sooooo much oil in the bowl it wasn't palatable. She removed some of the cost but still charged him for his potatoes and the soup/salad. My girls shared a New York and they seemed to enjoy it. For a 40 dollar steak I expected more. We will not be returning. Could have made a better steak in the microwave. read more

Toki Ona - Basque Near Me - Elko, Nevada

We shared a ribeye and each had a soup and salad. The ribeye was perfectly cooked for us, medium on the inside with a nice crusty outside. We declined all the other sides because who can eat all that? Our delicious Spanish wine complemented our meal perfectly. Wonderful experience with food and service. read more

So much good food . Barley chicken soup was just what I needed . The salad was delicious . I had lamb Chops and with added garlic was delicious . The ribeye was also cooked well and delicious . All the sides .. so much ! Green beans, fried rice, spaghetti , Ana potatoes. We came hungry and left stuffed! Waitress was very pleasant. Tables set up for social distance. We were so hungry that we forgot to take photos ! We will come back when in town read more

We had such high hopes for this place but sadly disappointed. The place itself kind of felt like a Dennys. No ambiance whatsoever. There is a separate bar area, but there was no bartender the night we dined in, so our server told us she could only manage beer or wine. That's ok, no biggie, except that the place calls itself a "bar and restaurant." Their website over-promised a Basque experience and under-delivered on food quality. When I asked if there was a separate menu for Basque style dishes, our server replied that "it's just a lot of food." I guess that's what they consider a Basque experience, IDK? There was only one Basque dish on the current menu: two huge pork chops. We could've ordered one of them and fed a family of four (2 adults and 2 kids). All entrees come with soup, salad, green beans, and choice of carbs (rice or potatoes). Not truly understanding the huge portions, we also ordered lamb chops and a grilled cheese. The Basque pork chops were delicious, and the other items were ok, nothing special. Green beans tasted like they came from a can which brought back memories of growing up in the Midwest. At the end of our meal, we felt like we wasted a lot of food since we were traveling through and had no means to refrigerate and reheat leftovers. Our server worked super hard, so we tipped her generously and wished her well. read more

Ordered a Steak Sand, medium. It was cooked to perfection. The only downside was the taste, it had no flavor even with the garlic that I ordered. Everything else about the meal was very good, clam chowder and the salad were amazing. Shrimp were wonderful. Saw the waitress at order and when she brought the check. She looked at the two bites gone and asked if it was cooked properly. Yes it was. She left, we paid, I will try it again because of the extremely nice lady at the Register. I have heard nothing but good things about their food. Everyone is entitled to one bad day..... read more

The food was of low quality and the service the same. No choice Of pretty much anything except your main entrée. Salad was drenched in salad dressing, soup tasted like something out of a can ,my french fries were undercooked and my chicken fried steak was soggy. The food was basically dumped on your table and the waitress just walks away. No choice in salad soup it's just delivered! to add insult to injury the price is very high for such low quality food! Would definitely not go back. Advertised as a Basque restaurant and there is nothing Basque about it. It's cheap all American stuff. read more

Desk clerk at the hotel next door said it was a good place to eat so we gave it a try. The two soups were both very good. Waitress was busy but kept up on our needs. Food and service convinced us to come back for breakfast. OMG the breakfast was amazing! First of all, the coffee was as good as or better than we've had at any restaurant, full bodied and fresh. I had to try the Basque Omelet, with hash browns and toast. Hash browns were made with fresh potatoes. Omelet was unique and very tasty. There was more food than we could finish. We ordered a cinnamon roll to go and that was also great. Our waitress both days was a lovely young gal named Berla. Kudos to her for being so attentive and friendly. She treated us as friends. Stopping at this restaurant made our stay in Elko worth it! read more

We enjoyed our meal here. We both had lamb chops, which were cooked to medium rare perfection. We also loved the creamy garlicky salad dressing. The atmosphere is casual and very old school. Nothing fancy. We were passing through town and we were very tired on a Sunday night when not much in Elko was open. This hit the spot- good, uncomplicated food in a casual setting. The bar was full of old men speaking a language I was unfamiliar with, probably Basque. The only thing I didn't like was my baked potato, which was dry and hard. My husband's scalloped potatoes were excellent and I was jealous. read more

We've been going to Toki Ona's since they opened. (We followed the cook from the previous restaurant he worked at). It has always been wonderful food. However as of late, the steak sandwich (which is our go-to) has been subpar. If it were once.....egh....everyone has a bad day. But 2....3 times? Today my husband got home from Salt Lake after brutal back surgery. All he wanted was his go-to. I decided on soup and salad for myself. I ordered from the car to go. All I can say is a disappointing wowww.... the bun was hard, steak was medium well, the fries were soaked in grease and cold. I got the smallest styrofoam cup of soup, with 'maybe' a small child's handful of salad. No bread. It was one of the saddest meals I've ever seen. The total was 25$. I'm so sad to be writing this review. I know the owner, he's a wonderful cook. He would never send out food like that. It was about 3:30 on Sunday April 11th. I will miss going there if this continues. No threats. I just hope Jose sees this review and maybe addresses the quality of food coming out of the kitchen. I only gave 2 stars because the little gal who handed me my order was smiling and friendly. read more

Wow! What a huge disappointment. Avoid this place! Service was inattentive and our meals were inedible. Salad was limp lettuce drenched in dressing, recommended pork was swimming in grease, green beans were canned with huge chunks of raw garlic, potato's were ice cold. Other item ordered was a "special" sandwich which was far from special... more Mayo than meat with cold limo french fries. Impossible to send food back, since couldn't even get water or coffee. read more

great service with terrible management

Too much food. Nice service. Adequate, not fantastic. Go here if you are hungry, great for a large party

We ordered the garlicky rib eye steak and it was very good! Smothered in grilled garlic, seasoned well, and juicy. The portions were generous and service was attentive despite being short staffed and restaurant was busy. The sides we liked were the au grauten potatoes & salad. The sides that were "ok" were the rice, spaghetti & green beans. The atmosphere is loud and lively. Seating is either booths or group seating on tables. read more

Toki Ona means "good place." Toki Ona's name is Basque. This is a Basque restaurant. These restaurants serve the traditional Basque style of family meals. The entire table is first served bread, then bean soup, and then salad. Bread, soup, and salad are served in a large serving dish that you pass around the table for each member of your party to serve themselves. After, the specific entree you ordered arrives. And then dessert. You can certainly start your evening with a Pichon, which is a traditional Basque adult beverage. I've been to several Basque restaurants and this is definitely up there with the best. The Pichon was strong and delicious, sip slowly. The soup and salad reminded me of flavors of long ago. I ordered the Liver and Onions. Their liver and onions were as good as if not better than what I ate as a child. We were a party of 6. Everyone enjoyed the entree they ordered, e.g. lamb, steak, sandwiches etc. There were no complaints and plenty of compliments to go around. If you want a Traditional Basque Restaurant or if you want to try one for the first time, definitely start here. Remember, it does not operate like your typical restaurant. read more

Early June first time we came here with visiting family and the wait staff and food was really good. Place was packed but the waittress was on the ball, we all gave her a tip, she deserved it. They impressed our out of town family! Our second visit a month later for lunch burgers was not so great. Wait staff was fast and efficient, but the food was not very good. Couldn't finish it. Even if it was an off day for the cook, spending money on a meal out is a lot when it isn't very good. read more

Worst dining experience I have had in years! Just moved to town with my family and really wanted to try this place out. Ordered pancakes and eggs (7.25) , tuna melt (11.00), jalapeño poppers (5.99), French dip(12.99) and a side of mashed potatoes (4.00). Add a glass of milk, Shirley temple and Iced tea. Total was over $44! Worse yet, when I get to the checkout the waitress exclaims, "sorry I added that wrong" and changes the total to $53 without explanation. An $8 +tip brings me to $62!!!! The fries were inedible, the pancakes were starchy and stuck to the plate. Eggs were dry. The only thing we all liked was the chicken noodle soup which was excellent, but not $60 excellent. The tuna sandwich was decent. The waitress was only slightly better than the food and I'm now certain that she took advantage of the fact that I was in the restroom to pad the bill. I've been robbed. read more

Went in and got some good breakfast here. Tables were separated a good distance, service was prompt and friendly. All the food was hot, fresh and tasty! The breakfast sausage and fries were amazing. I had the the country fried steak, eggs, hash browns and toast. The steak was super tender and the gravy easy excellent. I was told the hash browns weren't the best but they tasted good to me even though they were a little mushy than regular ones. All in all totally happy and glad we ate breakfast here. read more
