You pick your entrée and they start by bringing out soup salad and with the entrée they bring side dishes. My wife had lamb chops that were seasoned very well, incredibly tender and flavorful. Our server was Anna. Very friendly and attentive. I am a lifelong fan of chicken fried steak so that is what I ordered. It came out, smothered with some incredibly good gravy. This is not a fancy restaurant. Keep your hat on if you want. It's home cooking though at its best with more than you can eat. With a dinner order, you'll get sourdough bread and very tasty vegetable soup. Toki Ona's is a very well known Basque restaurant in Elko with a very good reputation. In my opinion, a good Basque restaurant serves there food family style and that is exactly what you get here. So be prepared to eat or take food home. I ordered a Picon (Basque cockta) and the salmon. The Picon was very good and the first serving was a very nice bean soup. The second serving was an already tossed salad that was good. Then came the two big pieces of perfectly cook salmon along with, rice, pasta, green beans and the traditional plate of French fries. The salmon was very good, fries were a bit limp and the other three dishes were good but plain. I will definitely be back to give them another try and recommend you give them a try. read more

Four of us came to Toki Ona for dinner for the first time recently. We all agreed that Toki Ona is indeed a good place. We arrived early and seating was not a problem. By 6 pm, nearly every table was taken and a group of 11 had come in. My husband and I shared a main, the cod. The split plate charge was $13.95. A good deal for all the sides. Once seated and drink orders taken, soup arrived on the table quickly. Beef barley. This was no watery broth. It was a hearty soup with plenty of beef and barley. It had deep flavor, body, and black pepper zing. We'd be glad to have thst for dinner alone. The bread was also really good. The salad, green beans, sphagetti, and rice was fine. Not particularly outstanding, but not bad. The other surprise was the potate choice. Toki Ona gives you a choice of fries, baked potato, or Ana potatoe. The Ana potatoe is much like a scslloped potato, but Toki ona does it one better. They slice a potatoe and put it back together and cook it in butter and seasonings. It is exceptionally good looking and delicious. I recommend it highly. For the main I shared the cod with my husband. When asked how I'd like it, I replied medium. I guess it was the spicing level. The cod was cooked well and tasted a bit like it was blackened. Service was really good. The busy wait staff checked on us even as the dining room filled up with patrons. First time visiting Toki Ona and was pleasantly surprised!! We visited during Cowboy Poetry and I have to say, the food was good and service was surprisingly fast!! Three of us came in and were sat immediately, there was no wait which was awesome. We ordered two Eggs Benedict breakfasts, two bowls of Chicken Noodle Soup, and a BLT with fries and a house side salad. First of all, the soup was so good. The noodles seemed homemade, while the broth was flavorful and just what we needed on a cold day. The house side salad was a classic basque salad with that creamy garlicky dressing basque salads are known for. My son's BLT with Avocado was big with fresh veggies. My son said he wished the fries were crispier and not as limp, but had great flavor. The Eggs Benedict was yummy and the hollandaise had good flavor, however, the yolks of my eggs were definitely overcooked and therefore I didn't get that yummy runny yolk experience you love with Benedict. And the hashbrowns could have been more crispy. However the English muffins were soooo good. All in all the food was really delicious and the lunch menu has a lot of variety. I came here with my coworkers for lunch because we wanted something good and not expensive. We came during lunch and it was busy but we were seated fast. We were greeted by a nice waitress and she took our drink orders quickly. When it came to ordering our food it was also rather quick and fresh! As soon as we put in our order our salad and soups came out in less than 3 minutes which was great! The salad was nice and fresh and the Chorizo Bean soup was great also! I ordered the fish and chips. The fish batter was crispy and the fish was good! The fries were very good as well. The serving sizes were just perfect. We were in and out within an hour. We came here the Sunday before Memorial Day. They were really busy, but we were still seated and got our drinks very quickly. It seems like we had two servers the whole time, which was a little odd but kept us attended to regularly. The food was pretty good. We've been going to Toki Ona's for breakfast for years! We've even eaten lunch there a time or two. But in the 27 years we've been in Elko, we've never eaten dinner there! Well tonight that changed as it was where we chose to enjoy our date night dinner. We were quickly greeted and seated. Drink orders were taken and brought out as we perused the menu. As is customary with Basque style family dining, bread and a chicken pasta soup were brought out. It was followed by the salad. Hubs wanted a steak, so he ordered a New York strip. It was cooked to perfection with a nice level of seasoning. (I had a bite to verify his review!) I ordered the stuffed shrimp, and man oh man it was the right choice for me! It was so filling though, that I could only enjoy 3 before the point of a food coma. The green beans were divine! (They are my favorite vegetable, so it's nice when they taste so good they melt in your mouth!) So much good food! Our server, Hannah, was efficient and super friendly! Pulled into Elko in the middle of a nasty late summer storm. With most of the basque places closed on a Sunday, we found Toki Ona packed full of rancheros and their families. The parking lot was full of giant $60k pickup trucks, so we had to park out in the back alley. It was a busy day. We were told to sit at a table that hadn't been cleaned off yet. It was nearly 20 minutes before someone realized we had just sat down and needed menus, water, and the table cleaned. During that time we watched 3-4 other groups get sat and helped. We ordered the rib eye and the lamb chops. The steak came out medium (ordered rare). After 10 minutes, the server returned and politely took the steak without question. The second steak was blue rare. It was cold inside. It bothered me a little because it felt almost like it was a "he wants rare, huh?" Attempt by the kitchen. The lamb was pretty fatty and small (but thick). The flavor was amazing though. Wow! The sides were filling. My wife found the soup to be comforting and reminded her of her mom. The spaghetti has a lot of chili powder and could have been better. Overall, even though the service was subpar and the food could have been better, it was still a basque steakhouse. Lots of people having a great time. We saw a large family birthday party for an octogenarian, several groups of friends, and people inviting folks to join them at their table. Spent a few days in Elko and enjoyed dinner and breakfast at this restaurant and we enjoyed it immensely. The food was tasty, well-prepared, and decently-priced. Basque food is hearty with tons of delicious garlic. The dinners include a lot of dishes besides the mains. Our favorite sides were the soup that came with the dinner and delicious stuffed mushroom appetizers. Our lamb and beef entrees were well-cooked with generous portions. Ordered the senior New York steak dinner. It comes with soup salad bread and the meal. Four bites into the chicken and rice soup I found a bug complete with head legs and what appears to be wings. Discreetly brought it to the managers attention who tried to tell me that it was a tomato seed. There are no tomatoes and chicken and rice soup nor do tomato seeds have a head and legs. When I showed it to her I had placed it on a napkin and she tried to grab the napkin and bug out of my hands. Very forcefully I might add so I wouldn't have the evidence. On June 30, 2024 we arrived in Elko Nevada hoping to dine at the Star Hotel and Restaurant, unfortunately it was close so we went to Toki Ona said to be its sister restaurant. We were not impressed. The service while adequate left us feeling rushed. We needed more napkins due to a drink mishap, and had to ask three times. We ordered and received our food. First the soup and bread. Both were passable but not up to what we remembered from the Stat. Our food was delivered and was well presented. I ordered the spicy chicken pasta from the senior menu. The portion was over the top large. Now I'm sure some wonder about a complaint regarding the size but we order from the senior menu for the smaller size portions. I got with my main dish shoestring fries, they were cold and soggy. Totally unappetizing. Flagging down our server was impossible since two large parties were sat about the same time our food came. My dining partner ordered the chicken fried steak and a baked potato. He said the only palatable thing was the baked potato! In total, we won't return here again since the combination of poor service and second rate food combined to make this a disappointing dining experience. read more

If going through Elko I would recommend that you give this place a try. The food is delicious and the service was friendly. There is never a shortage of garlic at a Basque restaurant and Toki Ona is no exception. The house salad dressing is a garlic mayo, and very tasty. When ordering the steak sandwich, I ordered mine well done this time, but med-rare is the best! They also ask if you would like garlic on it and of course my answer was a resounding YES. The sandwich was tender and great flavor. The miner's burger was pretty good, nothing to write home about, but good. The fries are also pretty good, but not something I would seek out. My fiance and I were traveling back to California and we were fairly hungry, so we checked out Toki Ona in Elko, NV. This is a basque restaurant where everything is served family style. Being 8:30 PM on a Saturday, the restaurant was fairly busy (they close at 9:30 PM) and there was evidence it had really been busy earlier, as the employees were clearing tables. As always, I read the other mixed reviews, so this one is based on my experienced. The Chef and Lady Server could not have been nicer! We wanted certain items prepared a certain way, such as the spagetti. If they couldn't do something, they told us they couldn't do it as it was pre-prepared. However, they always came back with an alternative, we can do this. (talk about being customer focused). Everything we had was excellent! Everyone at the other tables seemed to be enjoying their meals as they were taking home the leftovers. I especially liked the bread, the root beer soda (wasn't watered down) and again, the server and bus person were outstanding! The Manager (?) server, and others thanked us for coming in. I was super excited to get my Elko basque dosis; this is my tradition every time I drove by. But my experience did not meet the expectations. The Food: It was 2.40 pm and we received the lunch menu. I was really craving the butterfly filet which was a dinner item, served after 4pm, I talked to our waitress and she spoke with the chefs who were willing to serve it earlier. Basque plates come with soups or salad, green beans, French fries, rice, and pasta. My salad was good. I really like the basque dressing. I requested the filet medium rare and it was over cooked when I first cut it. I didn't request to change it because they had already gone out of their way to cook it earlier. Not only the filet was over cooked but the flavor was just plain. They put garlic on top but it still feel like it needed some flavor. - I have had this same plate and remembered it being so flavorful and cooked perfectly! The green beans were over cooked and fall apart. The rice didn't look good so I didn't even try it. The pasta was OK. Everything tasted so plain that I was surprised on how the quality of the food had decrease. The French fries were grease and saggy. My husband got the lamb chops and was disappointed at them being overcooked and not flavorful. The Service: There was a really nice waitress running the whole place. I remember her from 3 years ago when I came last. She took great care of us: Brought our food and drinks out brought the bill in a timely manner. 3 stars because I have been on the two ends: A wonderful basque experience and one not so much. I like the lamb chops with garlic on top. These aren't shoulder chops, they are loin chops, untrimmed, so the tail of fat is left on. The sides are spaghetti with a mushroom tomato meat sauce; love it...vegetable rice, green beans, and this time I had the potatoes ana which is a baked potato au gratin. You're not going to leave this place hungry! Of course I had spumoni ice cream for desert; I can't help it...
