Are staying at the Red Lion Inn on our way through to Colorado and had dinner here. So glad we did! The space is very nice with Aspen trees that made you feel as if you were dining in a high mountain grove, with lovely muted lights, linen, crystal, comfy booths and lots of space between tables. What stood out are the amazing photographs of horses and cowboys. Not my favorite genre, but the photos are amazing. It really added to the county-elegant vibe of the restaurant, fancy but not fussy. High end, but down to earth. Great balance. The service was very good, friendly but professional - it is what I consider great service in our casual way of life in Nevada. Fresh bread was provided right away. The wine list, while not extensive, had some very nice choices. We ordered a Ferri-Corano Merlot which was full bodied with hints of black cherry and spice. Our wine was brought right away and we were given time to enjoy before ordering. Out food was brought out in a timely manner. My Fillet and my husband's prime rib were cooked to order. My fillet was flavorful and tender but was just a tad dry. Staff were all wearing masks and distancing was in place. The space was not crowded and they have plenty of room in the restaurant to seat people comfortably. So solid 5 star covid rating. We went to Aspens twice last week, and the food and service were both great! I loved the lobster stuffed mushrooms and meatball appetizers. I think there's a new chef named Ritchie, and he's doing a fabulous job. The appetizer spread he put out for a recent VIP party were all fantastic! Beautifully plated and expertly prepared. Love this restaurant. We try to stop here every time we pass through Elko. We have yet to have a bad experience here. The wait staff is so nice and friendly and prompt. Nothing better than a good waiter or waitress. Usually we get a cheeseburger with fries and some sort of pasta dish. A big plus is they serve Pepsi products. That goes far with my boyfriend, he's a huge Pepsi drinker. Last time we were there we were there for dinner. He got a cheeseburger with fries and I got the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. So good and had the right amount of garlic in it. They bring a bread basket too and it has this cheese dipping sauce that is so good and honey butter. Went for a nice dinner, and the best thing I can say is the bread was served warm. The coconut shrimp came with a 'marmalade dipping sauce.' Nope, this was straight out of a jar of Smuckers Orange Marmalade, or a couple of orange marmalade packets from the coffee shop counter. The shrimp were rubbery and the breading both cold and flavorless. The two microwaved into oblivion chicken breasts were incredibly dry, with the bottle of bbq sauce dripped over them offering a bitter taste. Then there's the 'Chef's Vegetables.' The waitress was excited to explain the 'Cauliflower Puppies,' were just like eating at Denny's. They were ground cauliflower hush puppies, she felt they were just like the pancake ones at nobody's favorite 24-hour diner. Yes, a place charging $35 for a simple steak has staff bragging the chef makes it feel as though you are at Denny's. My Caesar salad was just as good as eating anything with a bottle of generic Caesar dressing poured over it. This is one place I can't justify giving another try, nothing was worth its price, and the waitress was correct, the quality was definitely the equal of Denny's. read more

We're from out of town and Aspens was our first stop in Elko, but I hate to say that I wish it wasn't. As a fan of a good prime rib, it was a picture of what appeared to be a really good prime rib on here that drew me in. When we arrived at the restaurant, we expected to see a busy Saturday evening, but there were only two other groups in the dining area, so we thought we were in for a nice quiet evening. We met our server Kayanna, who turned out to be the best part of the evening. We ordered the Artichoke Dip to start, and while we were waiting, they brought us some bread, and while I can get over having hair on my food, that was really just the start of where things went downhill. The dip took forever to arrive, and Kayanna let us know that the first one had been burnt so they had to remake it, and when the remade one showed up, it was quite literally frozen in the center still. We sent that back, and Kayanna brought us a shrimp cocktail instead, which was actually great, albeit small. We then got our main dishes, I ordered the prime rib and my fiancée ordered an Alfredo pasta with chicken and veggies, and both meals were not up to snuff. Her pasta had a taste of artichoke that didn't pair well with the Alfredo, and the chicken was completely overcooked to the point that we had to send it back to the kitchen. For my order, it was obvious that my mashed potatoes and broccoli had been sitting on the plate for upwards of 15 minutes before the entree, because they were completely cold. My prime rib was cooked perfectly, but was very bland because it seemed as if the outside edge of only half of the cut had ever even been introduced to the idea of salt. I don't like using steak sauce, but this meal required its use to get through. Ultimately, we had to talk to Kayanna and turn down the pasta and leave before I was halfway through my meal. She was very apologetic, and we could hear her talking in the back to the cooks about how frustrated we were. We ended up not paying for the pasta, drinks or appetizers; leaving only my meal, and even that was discounted. Kayanna is amazing, but unfortunately that's wasn't going to be enough to turn this one around fo us. They are a good place to go and have a drink and appetizers. They have a good ambiance in their bar. It seems that their specialty is prime rib and steak. They do offer a variety of other menu items, too. They have a wine list, and a cocktail of the day. I got the prime rib medium. It was a bit tough and not too much flavor. Definitely needed the au jou and horseradish. The bread didn't taste fresh and wasn't warm. The brussels sprouts were overcooked and over salted. I probably wouldn't come back again for dinner, unless they got a different chef. But having said that this is probably the closest thing to fine dining in Elko. It seems like they are trying to compare to a Flemings or Houstons. Which is a great idea, but the food isn't there. They should order bread from Donuts and more - at least that way they would have fresh bread. It's located in the Red Lion casino. They only take reservations for 6 or more and they open at 5 pm. Really great experience! The ambiance is perfect for a date night/ special occasion. You're more secluded from the casino that you walk through to get there.... More so than the other dining options available. I ordered the chicken fettuccini which did the job of filling me up. He ordered a steak because we've heard such good things about their beef options. His first steak came out wrong, just cooked well done instead of the requested medium rare, BUT the mistake was fixed and it came out perfect the next time. Overall, the waitress we had was super sweet and we came in 40 minutes before closing so we couldn't of asked for anything more than what we received. This place is a little more $$ than the quality of food but I would recommend it to anyone who's hungry and out in the Elko area. Side note: there was a live performance going on next to the restaurant so we enjoyed some live jazz music which was a great addition to the night! read more

It was okay for fine dining in Elko. Service was pretty good. Our waitress was very attentive for the amount of tables she had to care for. Always made sure our drinks were filled in a timely manner. The food was okay, nothing to write home about. My husband had the prime rib and said it was a little dry?! Kind of weird for prime rib but, whatevs! I had the chicken Marsala and it wasn't all that great. The chicken was dry. I gave 4 stars mainly because of service. Our bread came a bit cold. I come to Elko a couple of times a year for work and for the motorcycle rally and I have always stayed at the Red Lion. Aspens is a nice place to have a cocktail, some appetizers, and dinner. You can eat at the bar or sit in a comfortable couch and enjoy some peace away from the casino. The food is good and the service is spot on. If I was going to base this review on the first time we came here I would have given this place 1star just based on the food. We ordered steak Diane which was a really bad idea and the sides tasted canned. I didn't even take a picture of it to post. I ordered the halibut it tasted like it had a frozen taste and it was over cooked and just poorly prepared. I did take a picture of that. The plating and sides were also terrible. The lobster bisque and the coconut shrimp was good. Our second visit was much better experience. Our waitress was great she recommended the babyback ribs and garlic mashed potatoes it was so yummy. I ordered the coconut shrimp and double dose of corn on the cob and it was delicious. The clam chowder was also very good. The plating was also so much better. Maybe they changed the cook. read more

The place looked fantastic, however what promised to be good food turned out to be inedible. I do not understand why you would serve a Swanson frozen dinner Salisbury steak quality garbage when you have some of the finest beef available in the region. Even if there isn't a wholesale butcher nearby a fresh ground meat product could be sourced from any of the towns larger grocery chains. I literally could not eat the burger and ended up giving it to the dogs. Good for them, bad for me and my wallet that now feels much thinner. read more

Have to update my review. Just went to Aspens again last night and it was even better than the first. The filet was as good as any I've had outside of high end big city steakhouses at two to three times the cost. Sides were nicely done and the wine is still a bargain. Ordered the Hawian burger. Very good, lean meat, great bun, and lots of pineapple. Ordered it with house salad, which was pretty large and very good. The waitress brought a bread basket with a plater of whipped honey butter, but also asiago spinach dip for the bread--dip was excellent. All very tasty. Hands down, Aspens is my favorite restaurant in Elko! It's the classiest-feeling place in town and I love their food! Their lobster bisque is something I dream of now that I don't live in the area. I had frequented the bar area while watching football and the bartenders recognized me as a regular and knew what I wanted to drink before I could say anything. The food was terrible. A $40 steak was not cooked anywhere near how I ordered it. Steak was chewy and nearly.impossible to eat. My jaw was tired halfway threw choking down the steak that I only forced myself to eat due to the outrageous price. The lobster that was $50 for the smallest lobster tail I've ever seen was also chewy and cooked terribly. The service was mediocre at best and all in all I've left McDonalds more satisfied with the meal i just ate. I would strongly recommend never wasting a cent at this terrible restaurant read more
