    Spinach Salad
    Jamie S.

We arrived before 5pm when dinner would be served. We sat at the bar and had a glass of wine. There are a lot of knickknacks to see behind the bar and on the walls. The bartender was friendly and prompt with service. There appeared to be many locals there. We were seated promptly for dinner. It took a bit for our server to arrive to our table, but once there she was friendly and informative. We started with the spring rolls. They were mushy on the inside. It appeared they were wrapped with dumpling wrappers that were soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. We didn't prefer the texture. Hubby didn't like the sauce served with them but I did. We wouldn't order them again. We chose a spinach salad as the side to our entrees. It was fresh but overdressed. It became soggy very quickly. Hubby had the braised lamb shank special. He said it was fall off the bone tender. There were parts of it on the outside though that were too hard to chew, as if those parts had been outside of the braising liquid too long. The polenta was grainy and undercooked. Polenta should be smooth and silky. The sauce was too salty. I had the Basque Pasta. I asked the waitress if the mussels were fresh and she told me they were frozen. I never should have ordered the dish. The mussels were so dry and fishy tasting I couldn't eat them, and I love mussels. I even bit down on a couple of pieces of broken mussel shells. There was hardly any sauce so the noodles were dry as well. The cheese on top wasn't melted. I barely touched my dish. The servers, including ours, were working very hard and seemed to be providing everyone with great service. I'm giving 3 stars because of the food. I know it's a local fave, but we won't be back.

    Bone in prime rib

I love Machi's and their menu is so scrumptious with so many fun things to try. Having said this, I can't seem to stay away from the perfectly executed Bone in Prime Rib, enough to feed an army but hey...there is a warmth to Machi's that make you feel cozy and content. Great service usually happens at a great restaurant and no exception here. We brought fabulous wine, paid a reasonable corkage fee and all was well in the universe. I look forward to the next time...

Great find in Elko! A mile off I-80 and well worth it! Great prices, service! Good wine list. Fun!

The prime is amazing! The dipping sause for it is delicious. I also tried the ribs. They are on Thursdays. They are slow cooked & the meat pulls off the bone. Both come with house salads. Servers are great! The environment is up beat. Highly recommend it!

We are a fifth wheel family traveling from CA to CO and we looked up reviews for Machi's. It was one of the highest rated places to eat in Elko. We really needed a family friendly restaurant & I'm so grateful they sat us! Everyone loved their plates, generous servings, great prices, great quality, staff was SUPER nice, and it was very clean. 10/10 recommend. If you're coming through they do have a big parking lot across the front of their restaurant. Ps. My husband ordered a jack & coke and he said it was really good and pretty strong

The staff consisting of all women is stellar. They are running this packed establishment like a well oiled machine. After a long day of driving, we stopped here and enjoyed a few appetizers and drinks. The food was good. The drinks were outstanding. Would I stop here again? No. It is poor business practice to isolate and potentially offend new customers. The MAGA hat over the bar upon arrival was disconcerting. Being sat under this framed image to eat my dinner, was insulting. I am very much aware of what region of the country I am in and behave respectfully. ENOUGH

They didn't wanna wait till even Wendover, cause there might not be any good food way out there. OK, so, I pull into the Gold Dust West. I've stopped here before and I do like the food they have at the Grill coffee shop inside the casino. We get seated and drink orders taken. You know I do notice a sandwich on the menu I never had before. It's the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Usually I'd think grilled cheese was a boring sandwich you order for kids or something. But I saw it had bacon and tomato in it. You do have you choice of cheese (besides American) and choice of bread. I got it on sourdough and cheddar cheese along with onion rings ($2.00 extra). I couple of my crew got the same but with fries. The other girl on the crew got the Cali Omelet. Our food arrives and I'm surprised at the heft of the grilled cheese on sourdough. I bite in and wow, this is pretty damn tasty! It's not what I expected at all, better! The other guys liked it too and said they'd get this sandwich again. OK, I was impressed with this new grilled cheese and I think they have it at all the other Gold Dust west locations in Reno and Carson City. If you get to a Gold Dust West Casino, check out this sandwich!

Once seated, our experience was a mix of highs and "almosts." - Appetizer: We started with the fried pickles -- crisp, flavorful, and addictive -- though a seasoned dipping sauce would have taken them to the next level. - Entrées: Antonio ordered the prime rib, advertised at 12 oz, but it appeared a bit smaller than expected. Portion sizes for his sides, however, were generous and satisfying. I went with the penne alla vodka but received penne with marinara instead. While the garlic bread was decent, I missed the creamy, robust vodka sauce that was promised. - Service: A little on the slow side, though staff were polite once they arrived at the table. Overall, the food was decent, but not quite on target. We're planning to give them another try for breakfast -- here's hoping that meal hits closer to the mark.

People looking for a family style meal, with the warm and engaging people, with honest, real, good food, will be thrilled. We were there for a late lunch. Our server was extremely kind and explained the menu, process, and local favorites The Pico Punch had a touch of Vicks 44, but that's exactly what it should taste like. The quantities are huge. Cabbage soup broth was delicious. Italian bread would be better if warmed, but still good. The salad was robustly tossed and the dressing had a nice touch of garlic. The steak sandwich was tender and had an excellent marinade/flavor. Fries: very greasy and not their finest moment. We have family in Iowa and this all felt similar: Midwest friendliness, warmth, and good food. We were leaving at 445 and the line had grown to 20 for dinner! Appeared to be locals/regulars. As another noted, yes, there are brothels just down the street. Hey, it adds to the local charm!

Next our server gave us a warm welcome and helped make decisions that involved a food sensitivity. And I haven't even got to the yummy food yet. My husband had the smaller of the two complete American breakfasts offered and it was quite a generous portion. A highlight was the sausage patties. I chose the half and half Benedict which was perfect because I couldn't decide between the two. I selected that one while still looking at the yelp app in my hotel room and it did not disappoint! Each half was huge. And the presentation was beautiful too. Wish I'd taken a picture! A specialty of Dreez' is the chili infused hash browns. They were great and full of flavor and had a delightful mouth feel. A bit of light crispy and just enough creaminess from the cheese and cream in them for balance. Though our super sweet and friendly server did tastefully warn against having them four days in a row for comfort sake, they were not overly spicy. Great flavors! So it was pretty solid 5 stars on my covid rating. I try not to bee too harsh with casino coffee shops. I am not expecting gourmet cuisine and 5-star white glove service - especially in rural Nevada old time casino coffeeshops. Normally I would have given this a solid 4 stars after we were greeted seated and brought coffee (which was amazingly good) and huge glasses of orange juice that tasted pretty close to the real thing. It kind of went down-hill after that. My husband and I both ordered traditional Eggs Benedict with Hollandaise sauce with a side of hash browns. Now if there is one thing casino coffee shops uasually get right it is hash browns. Apparently not here. Our plates we loaded up with barely beige shredded potatoes that were not crispy not buttery, not salty, and definitely not cooked through. The Eggs Benedict did not fare a whole lot better. The "Hollandaise" was a gelatinous blob of bright orange something with a texture that resembled Velveeta with none of the flavor. The poached eggs were the best part - firm whites and runny yolks, She let us know there was a delay in the kitchen but our food would be out soon. The service would have been enough to bump this up to 4 stars. However, once we were served, she were done. When she brought our check and took away our plates with the meal half eaten, she did not ask if everything was alright. She said she would be our cashier. After waiting 10 minutes for her to come back we just left the money on the table. I am very disappointed by the level of service and the quality of the meal with should have been better - even by casino coffee shop standards.
