On the evening of January 1, my children were dining at this restaurant with their cousin and two friends. My spouse and I briefly stopped in to greet them. I paid the tab totaling $118 directly to the owner Tarah and left a $10 tip at that time. As I walked from the register toward the table, the owner shared the tip amount with another employee Nicole Stanton who was standing at the bar. That employee--then loudly yelled across the restaurant that if I was "going to tip that shitty," I should "take my kids with me." As I exited--loud to all patrons--she continued stating that she "knows I make enough money to tip better," while pointing toward my children and continuing to make disparaging remarks. The remainder of our group had offered to leave a cash tip on the table ($20 was on the table). The order itself was simple and not excessive. The $10 tip left at the register on my debit card was intended to be in addition to the cash tip from the group. Publicly disclosing a gratuity amount, using profane language, making comments regarding a customer's perceived income, and directing remarks toward or about my children in a public setting is unprofessional and unacceptable. Due to the conduct of the staff member, I instructed them not to leave the additional cash tip and to leave the restaurant. This was a deeply disappointing experience, particularly given my family's long history of patronage at this establishment. read more

I was very presently surprised while taking a few customers to O'carroll's for lunch. I had a veggie sandwich with the most unique fries I have ever had. The best way to explain them is a thin cut beef steak fri and I loved them. The atmosphere was perfect for the location and the service was stop on. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm out that way. read more

We were heading to the Craft Fair but wanted breakfast and O'carroll's was right across the street - awesome! The building is rustic and inside has a warm, cowboy feel. The place has a full bar so a Bloody Mary was required and it was excellent! Because of the fair, the staff was in overdrive and they served what I believe was a limited menu because of demand but it did not matter. The food was fantastic. Our group had an assortment of dishes - one was the classic 2 eggs with meat choice, hash browns and toast. My wife wanted both the bacon AND the ham. The ham was a ham STEAK and the bacon perfectly, and I mean perfectly cooked (why is that so hard to find? - pet peeve). I had the belgian waffles - light and fluffy with sausage and my daughter had the breakfast burrito. The sausage was incredibly good and my daughter raved about the burrito - too big to finish! My daughter's boyfriend had the waffles with all the cream and strawberries...just wonderful. While the servers were stressed due to being slammed, everyone was very nice and the service was excellent given the demand. Clearly this place does more than breakfast but, based on our experience, you can't go wrong at O'carroll's. read more

We were visiting from California with our grandson and great grandchildren. We stopped at this restaurant O'Carroll for dinner. We decided on staying outside in the patio area because we had eight children with us. The waitress came out very rude and angry for no reason. She then came and took our order, maybe 10 minutes later a drunk old man came out and chased us from the property. He even grabbed his manhood to threaten us with all eight children watching him. He cursed the F bomb and got in my daughters face. Very disgusting. My grandson had accidentally spilled his water and thought that it was his fault that we got chased away from there. O'Carroll's is a family style restaurant. The staff is friendly. They were able to accommodate my dietary limitations. I had a hamburger with the fixings. You get two toppings. Bacon was a free topping! The food was hot and fresh. My wife had a salad with grilled chicken. The salad dressing was very tasty. Many locals frequent the restaurant. The portions were great. This place is adorable! I'm kind of bummed out by the low star rating. My boyfriend took me for a drive through Lamoille Canyon last week and we stopped here for lunch - it's one of his favorite spots. The place really doesn't look like much from the front and you can tell the building is old because it's got a dirt parking lot and a post where people used to tie their horse when you stop in for a bite/beer. The two ladies working were very down home and polite. We ordered a Philly Cheesesteak kind of sandwich to share and upgraded the fries to onion rings. The sandwich was awesome. Super tasty and full of flavor - the onion rings were also a huge hit. In the end we fed both of us for about $13.50 because the sandwich was a good size. Inside you will find some old woodsy looking décor, a pool table and TONS of anti-liberal stickers and buttons etc., I am not going to post those pics so you'll have to come out and check it out for yourself. They also have outdoor patio seating. Super cute. OH and the whole place smells like campfire inside. Not overwhelming, just enough to make you want to pitch a tent and roast some marshmallows. 03-23-2022, 2000 hrs. As usual this place was terribly good!! Been going to O'Carrolls for close to 15 years and always enjoy the food and atmosphere. I don't ask for much but a good meal and this is where it is. Staff is always friendly and chatty. Just a laid back local rancher place. I recommend O'carrolls because their food is very good. I get the steak sandwich sirloin with a side salad and the food is premium quality.

Don't expect any formal service. It is a very casual place with indoor and outdoor seating. Would not recommend indoor seating but I would recommend HIGHLY the outdoor seating by the creek. Beautiful trees, a stream/creek and grass with tables. Just lovely! You won't be able to order out there but you can order inside and they will bring out your food in "To Go" containers that was easy with ice water and utensils. I would love to tell you how the food was, but I couldn't get any. We walked in and they looked up and seemed dumb founded that they had a customer. We asked if we could seat ourselves and got a nod. We got menus and a cold drink. After that the 4 staff just hung out at the bar and chit chatted. I didn't see a single adult working there, so I'm unsure how they serve alcohol. Fifteen minutes later we gave up and put some money on the bar for the tea. Very strange place. It was like being in a restaurant out of the movie Deliverance. When we arrived they had a party of 4 inside. 1 guy at the bar and 2 guys outside - it took 15 minutes for the girl to take a simple order, over an hour to get our food! My husband and I and our kids all LOVE O'Carrolls!! My husband and I have a tradition of grabbing a late lunch after a day of riding in the canyon, after we come down from a hike and fishing at the lake with our kids. It's so close to our house we can boogie over there on our sxs. Friendly staff, yummy food, cold drinks and a patio to enjoy the views outside. Our kids favorite! read more

Poor Tara... I went in there with 14 other state workers (we were on a tour of Elko and Lamoille for the week) and we wanted to taste some of the local fare. We kinda took over the place and she was not happy about it. I am sure that she was happy after we left and she got to count her tips. The food was good! With there being 15 of us, it took a bit to get all of the food out to us but when it did we all enjoyed it. I ordered the burger with bacon and onions on it. Not too shabby. The onion rings were crunchy and delicious and my cocktails were poured with a heavy hand so I was extremely happy about that! I got to taste the bread pudding and saw that the hand of god was involved with the delicious-tasty-crunchy-cinnamonnie-amazingness of it all. If you happen to be in Lamoille, stop by and eat and drink. There is not much there but it is good enough to stop for a bite, some booze and a game of pool :-) read more

The service is absolutely horrible with only ok food. I've never witnessed such horrible customer service in all of my 30 years of eating out. The owner, who I take it is named Tara, doesn't seem to appreciate any of her customers. Every time we go to O'carrolls she is nothing but rude to us and the rest of the people dinning. We have even witnessed her yell at a few people coming in for take out, or when the tip didn't fit her expectations!! We have had enough of her negativity and are sad to say wont be returning and will be sure to point others looking for a bite to eat in the opposite direction. The service is terrible, but the food is pretty good. We went there after a club bicycle ride and the owner, Tara, waited on us. First she got upset when we offered to clean the table ourselves (it was busy and she was the only one waiting tables). Then she chastised us for talking while she was taking orders. She then complained because she was alone. I can understand being overwhelmed, but to take it out on your customers is wrong. She was rude. When we asked for seperate checks, she said no (even though we've done it before in O'Carrolls). When we went inside to get water, she yelled at us to wait. The service has always been slow and I can accept that, but to get snapped at because the onwer was not having a good day is unacceptable. I can not stand people who are in the customer service business who are not customer friendly. I believe in tipping for service, and our tip reflected our satisfaction. Food was good, we went for lunch on a weekday. Hubby and I had hot sandwiches, both of which were yummy. Chili cheese fries were also good. When we got there we waited a few minutes before we saw anyone who worked there, and she kind of rolled her eyes and told us to sit anywhere. Service was okay that day, got drink refills etc. We had never been there before and were checking it out to see if we wanted to bring a larger group of people later in the week. Our experience that day was...okay. We were quiet and didn't ask for much, and ordered straight off the menu, and had nowhere to be. But, the next day when my husband called back to try and arrange the group thing, it was very different. He said outright that he had several questions, and just wanted to see if they could do that sort of thing. He said he knew it was a holiday weekend, but there was a group of 15-20 people that wanted to use the volleyball net and horseshoes etc outside, and asked if they would have any room for something like that. The lady on the phone asked (in a very snotty tone) if they wanted to eat. Well, yes they wanted to eat, why else would they come to a restaurant? But husband just said yes, they did, and he would understand if they had some kind of limited menu, etc. The lady on the phone proceeded to go on this huge tirade about how she was finally going to get a day off, and it's a holiday weekend and don't you know that? And then told them (once again with the snotty tone) that they absolutely could not do that. She made a huge deal out of it when all he was doing was calling to ask if something would be possible. We did not need this person's life story, and just saying, "I'm sorry, we won't be able to do that this weekend." would have done just fine. All in all, if you have a small group and don't care about feeling welcome, and as long as you don't make anything the least bit complicated for the person waiting on you, you should have a good meal without getting yelled at. We have been there twice, once when it was busy and once when it was not and both times the service was crappy! The food is delicious but it's a shame that the service you get ruins it. First we watched the waitress serve a man two beers who walked out and got in his truck with them. She was confronted by my husband who was an off duty police officer. She was very short on patience the entire time. She wouldn't refill drinks until she made sure the tables who ordered beer were served first even though we'd been waiting a really long time for refills. But what really topped it off was when she brought over plates and instead of asking properly who had what dish she slammed the plate down in the middle of the table and walked off. She doesn't care about the customers one bit and it ruins the entire experience. I wouldn't recommend going there if you value a great experience. read more

The food is good. The service is very Sloooooooooooooooow. The servers are EXTREMELY egotistical. Heaven forbid anyone tries to question anything about their order, and get what they pay for. We have eaten there several times now, and we have had some terrible experiences with poor customer service. On one occasion the owner, Tara, was taking our order and when I ordered a side of bacon she became aggressive and rude about it because according to her, breakfast hours were over. We have eaten there several times prior to this and on those occasions, we were able to order a side of bacon. I explained to her that our son was allergic to most foods, and that bacon was one of the few items on the menu that he could eat. She literally looked at me sideways, and her face began to twitch. I truly thought she was going to punch me. It was so strange, and uncomfortable. My husband and I ate there awhile ago, and our waitress walked out and got into her car and left half way through our meal. We never did have anyone check on us. I had to go to the bar and request a refill on our drinks. When the one remaining server came over to hand us our check, she quickly snatched up my husband's plate before he was finished eating. It was so bizarre. This occasion was the first time in 13 yrs. of being married to my husband, that he didn't leave a tip for our server. We ate at O'Carroll's today, and as usual, they were short on staff, very slow and one of the servers stuck his fingers in our glasses in an attempt to grasp all of our glasses at once so that he could refill our beverages, he returned those same glasses to us (nice kid, just hasn't been properly trained). A female server became offended when we made our outlandish request to have our bowls of soup delivered to us first, before we received our entrees. She gave us a short, condescending lecture regarding that matter. We are done. We are so sad that we are not able to go there anymore simply for the fact that we do enjoy Lamoille's atmosphere. I grew up out here, and I used to live in Lamoille. Customer service at O'Carroll's has gone down hill. Pine Lodge should consider opening up during lunch hours. Maybe they could give O'Carroll's a run for their money and class! I do want to add, that there is one server at O'Carroll's that has always been so friendly! She is a blonde woman who wears her hair pulled back in a braid, and she usually has a ball cap on. I wish that we could know her schedule and go to O'Carroll's only when she is working. O'Carroll's has great breakfasts, burgers and a Caesar Salad with real Caesar dressing! It can be crowded on weekends and holidays - a testament to the great food. We always take out-of-town guests there. Cowboys driving cattle down the street make for an excellent floor show! read more

My husband and I go to O'carroll's least once a week and sometimes more frequently. We have never been treated with anything but the utmost courtesy, and we have never had a complaint about any meal we have been served. We have had breakfasts, lunches, and dinners there. The food is reasonably priced and well prepared. We look forward to many more happy visits. read more
