This is a townie bar that has a couple dog-friendly tables out front on the sidewalk. Depending on the time of day, you will see all sorts of locals cruising the street and revving their engines as they go by. The food is actually pretty good (however they were out of pizza dough). The pizza must be good because a couple people went in a D came BA K out immediately when they found out there was no dough tonight. A couple drunk guys came out at one point and stumbled to their friend's car. One guy was on the phone and when he ended his call, he spiked it in the middle of the street like he had just caught the game-winning touchdown. Entertainment! read more

The Servers here are so nice and so kind. They HUSTLED. It was a packed night but they still got us our food and drink in a timely manner and were always so kind. They are hard workers! I was not a fan of the food. I ordered chicken tenders but they came out a bit wet and cold. The crunchy skin fell off the chicken in one bite and it was kind of hard to bite through the chicken. can't tell you what the food taste like. Ordered over 2 hours ago through a delivery group. called the restaurant after it was 30 min past delivery time. I asked if our food was ready, thinking the delivery company was not picking up the order and I was just going to pick it up. I assumed that well over an hour since the icon said our food was cooking that it would be done. I was told they had a big dinner rush and they hadn't finished our food yet. another 30 min passed and I received an apologetic phone call from delivery guys saying they still hadn't received our food and the delivery person has been waiting this whole time. first and last time getting food here. had to send my kids to bed with a bowl of cereal instead of the sliders I ordered them. Good spot in downtown Elko. 4 stars for a decent tap list. 3 stars for the food. Good service, friendly and low key. I went for beer and wings and I'm pretty picky about wings. I like my wings a little crispy with good texture. The wings at Stray Dog were the opposite of what I like. They were big (OK, cool) but with really rubbery skin. Not good. Didn't finish my order. No carrots and celery, no choice between ranch and blue cheese. Just got some ranch in a little plastic tub. read more

The bartenders are super friendly, and they have karaoke on Saturday nights! Drinks are cheap, and the selection is very good. I went to this place last Saturday when it opened at 3:00pm. I ended up coming back for karaoke at about 11:00pm, and met three nice girls who eventually took me to a strip club. Since the story surpasses a PG-13 rating, I just wanna say that The Stray Dog is fun, and it'll be my goto spot in Elko from now on. read more

There is nothing wrong with this place. However, is it the greatest place in earth? No. If I lived locally to Elko, it'd easily be a good go-to joint. The beer selection could satisfy all, and the pizza that I had was pretty delicious. The singular time I went to the Stray Dog, there was only the bartender acting as the server as well. They have a bunch of beers on tap including shocktop. I had the cheese bread which was on a thick pizza dough baked until the cheese was bubbling and served with a side of marinara. It was good. I really, really want to love the Stray Dog again but it doesn't seem likely. Once upon a time they had a great menu and a simple business concept: a basic beer bar where you could get some quality grub. These days the menu changes often (as more items get dropped), the hours are random (Lunch? No. Holidays? Not likely. Dinner? Maybe.), and they've added annoyances such as karaoke, video quiz games, and live bands...which wouldn't be so bad if the venue wasn't basically a hallway (which it is). One reviewer stated that this used to be a funeral parlor, but that is not the case. It was a flower shop that later moved into the funeral parlor that was located where the "wedding chapel" now sits. read more

This place is nicely done up. The local beer, something mountain, tastes bloody fantastic after a hot day in the car. Food was not bad. As per usual, our new little boy charmed them all by not waking up, and just looking cute. Elko could be such a great town, but looks like they ripped half the place up to make a very large car park in the middle. The bars surrounding the car park have a couple of unsavoury folks stumbling around muttering "you think you're better than me?". On the plus side, we saw some very genuine looking stockmen with some v. groovy wide brim hats. read more
