I mean... I'm a fan of JR's!!! It's, I believe, the only 24 hour restaurant in town which means it's perfect for late night drunken munchies on the weekend! Or any time you need late night food! The times I've been there, it was after a night of a little gambling and drinks at Maverick across the street! The few times I've been there, when you go late at night, the service is great! The waitresses are always fast, friendly and on top of things. I've tried the Chicken Marsala, the little side salad with ranch and the French toast with fresh berries! The pasta was actually really good, and I liked the garlic bread that came with it. The salad is your perfect diner salad with cucumber, cherry tomatoes, cheddar and croutons with ranch. The French toast was fluffy and delicious drenched in maple syrup and rich butter. I mean can you go wrong with that at 2am? Nay. Either way, JR's is a great place for late night food! read more

A waitress recently charged someone else's breakfast bill on my debit card for a purchase made 2 hours prior to me arriving, in addition to my breakfast bill. Speaking with other locals, this is not the first time that this has happened at JR's. The food was average at best, which is sad because the service was good. The food service manager noted that the transactions were processed one after the other, but never gave me a valid reason for the separate additional charge on my card. It wasn't busy so that's not an excuse either. Better watch ur debit card charges if you go here!!!! read more

Breakfast was bad , omelette was over cooked, no country potatoes "out" 930 am , my son had chicken fried steak no country potatoes eggs were barely cooked, over medium was the call , the fried steak was over cooked and old , very gray, sourdough toast for both meals did not get , my daughter had French toast, was the best plate on the table, coffee was hot no taste orange juice was ok don't drink the water, very bad taste, I've had much better meals at this place, service was not so good, our server didn't realize we had a carafe of coffee, she wasn't the only server there but acted like she was the only one there chicken with her head cut off, they need to continue with there upgrades, the booths are nice the tables are old looking, carpet tile flooring, hard to clean, durability, see about that, good lighting, seemed clean read more

I visit JRs when I visit Elko. I've been coming at least once a year for the past few years. First year was great. Food was good and so was the service. I always sit at the bar. Ever since the service has been absolutely horrible. Got an older lady bartending that just shouldn't be allowed around people. She's honestly scary and talks to herself all night and will serve you one drink if you're playing then totally ghost you the rest of the night except for the trash talking. And she makes it very obvious she's talking about you. It's an older place that seems a little run down. They have TVs at the bar but not really anything going on other than that. Bright side is I have won more than I've lost on the video poker. If you're not playing I'd totally skip it. read more

Nothing special. 20$ for the pizza and 8 for the salad. Pizza was over cooked for me. Staff was okay, polite just not attentive. Drinks were empty for over 5 minutes. My biggest complaint is the fact that the menu online is not the same as the menu at the restaurant. We went in for the family pizza dinner special just to be told it no longer existed. Also I ordered Fish and Chips and when the order was brought to me I asked for tartar sauce the response was oh I'm sorry we are out. My wife and I are traveling to Idaho and got a room at Gold Country Inn. After a long day on the road we just wanted to watch the Eagles Bucs game and grab a bite to eat. I read the reviews and we were just hoping for a decent meal. As soon as we walked in, Lana seated us and took our drink orders and made us feel welcome. We ordered the chicken fingers and a large pizza. Everything was excellent and we left there as happy customers. We will definitely return on our next trip. read more

I gotta give it to this place. It seemed like every single plate that came out looked like it was plated for a movie set or some sort of photo shoot. I really was impressed as stuff went by as I sat at the counter. But the night was just full of misstep after misstep. And maybe this was just an Easter issue...... Anyway I get there and stand at the "please wait to be seated" sign for what seemed to be an inordinate amount of time...even though people were right there at the register...I guess I needed to be helped by the wait staff? Anyway maybe the hostess didn't show, I don't know. I asked to sit at the counter. I'm a single tonight. No need to take up space! Anyway I got my glass of water and my menu. Water glass was dirty so I sent it back and got a new one. Then I got my bowl of soup I ordered...in a cup...but she DID make it up to me by bringing me another cup! It was a tasty navy bean and asparagus soup. Nothing amazing but hearty enough. I had intended to come in for some ham since it was Easter. Ham special is out...booo. I'll take the Cowboy Burger then. It's got ham! And thankfully it did...because pulled the burger patty (puck) out and just at the ham sandwich. The floor manager noticed it and offered me a replacement. I said sure...but just the patty...I've already eaten the sandwich. A few long minutes later...a whole new plate comes out with fries and everything. She shakes her head and just gives it to me. I don't know....my guess is that it was just an off day, with people working on Easter. I probably will come back here because the prices really aren't that bad...and a place that can plate that well SHOULD be able to get it right most of the time. One other cool note...the parking lot has some oversized parking spots for people with trailers or big trucks. Nice touch! TL;DR: Friendly service, tasty soup, disappointing pasta. I'll probably try this place again next time I'm in Elko. It's a convenient city to stay in when traveling between California and points East, and the restaurant is right across the street from Red Lion Hotel & Casino, which is a nice place to spend the night. The corn chowder and Pozole were both tasty. Our server was kind and efficient. I had the three-cheese penne, which was unfortunately drowning in Alfredo sauce. It was genuinely difficult to find the penne swimming around in the sauce. If I had it to do over again, I would probably order the build-your-own pasta and just get olive oil, and then ask for some Alfredo sauce on the side. read more

I have been frequenting JRs for several years. I love Mary and Sam they always take care of me. Unfortunately, the hours keep on changing and they now open later. I am now having to frequent another restaurant that opens earlier. I also see many of JRs regular morning customers at this other restaurant. Stopped here during our journeys to Yellowstone for lunch and it sounded good enough from reviews read, still a couple short miles out of town on the 80. A motivating factor in that choice was the oversized parking for RV'ers which sealed the deal (hat tip to fellow friend and Yelper Robert). Of note, those parking spots are located to the left of the east entrance and you'll need to back in, or nose in and back out, just a tip as we sent a friend ahead and their location didn't immediately jump out at them. Moving on, recognize this is a diner, located inside a local casino, but it is easily recognizable from the sign. Moving in, the menu is respectable with a great selection to choose from; burgesse's, sandwiches, apps, wildfired pizza, dinner entrees, they have the full Monte (of menus. Jeez, get your mind out of the gutter!). With that said, while the menu offers a lot, the results are suspect. I ordered a burger as a standby with a spin; bacon bison burger but I asked that they add the bleu cheese of course ('cause that's my jam) though they offered it with choice of any other variation; it was prepped as ordered but they really over cooked the meat and it was lackluster. I'll say they did try as the effort was recognizable but it still fell short in flavor. The nachos ordered by the lovely wife looked less than appealing and though I'd normally sample, they offered less than that much appeal. A friend enjoyed the chimichanga and couldn't say enough about it, so I'll say that is likely a step in the right direction, and lastly our son and his friend spoke not a word as they devoured their burgers (bacon bleu cheese, oddly with the crumbles as a side). Overall, I'd dine here again and give them another round though likely I'd play more with the menu; seems maybe it's a consistency thing. They do have an open kitchen, offering full view of the prep going into your meal, and a fully audible compliment of a working kitchen which I don't mind, though may bother some. Staff was gracious and very polite, though not as well acquainted as they should be with food and cocktail menus as one could or should expect. Overall, a nice enough place I certainly wouldn't steer one away from dining, but the dining experience may vary greatly on the variablities (yes, I just made that word up) of the given day. read more

Great service by Eric tonight and food was mostly spot on. I was impressed that they were limiting the number of patrons in the dining room as they were short staffed in the kitchen. The posole soup was delicious The pot roast was piled high, flavorful and had a great gravy. The carrots were also perfect (though frozen variety) My only complaint is there should have been a roll and the menu said red potatoes yet it had a baked potato cut in chunks and appeared to have sat in a steam tray much too long. read more

This little grill was a pleasant surprise at the Best Western. After spending the night at the hotel we decided to grab breakfast here before hitting the road. You do have to walk through the dismal (and smelly) casino to get to the restaurant and the bar itself isn't that great. We were seated well away from all of that and were promptly served some bad coffee. They have several $3.99 breakfast selections as well as all of the usual fare. My dining mate had French toast while I got an omelet. They were able to provide the option of Egg Beaters instead of eggs, had a pretty decent multi-grain toast, and when asked to serve the bacon "crispy", really delivered. I can't speak for lunch or dinner, but for breakfast this is a pretty good find in what would otherwise be a certain culinary desert and certainly reasonably priced. read more

Walked down to JR's because it was close. Took a little longer than I would have liked to be seated. Same for getting my order taken. Ordered the Croissant Club. 10 minutes later my waitress came back to let me know they were out of croissants. Changed to a traditional Club sandwich on sour dough. Once my order was in my food came out quickly and the sandwich was delicious. Also liked the fries. Once I was done eating it took a little while for the waitress to check back in so I could ask for the check. She was very nice, and young, so I'll give her a bit of a pass for maybe being new. In all, I'd give 4 stars on food and 2 stars in service, so a 3 star rating from me. read more

Well, I wasn't, and with the addition of a $5 coupon on $10 or more spent, this was way inexpensive and of good quality. It came with fries and a few hush puppies, but for the price we kind of thought we would get "more" of something??? The cod bites were a bit overcooked. Pros: The server, Mary, was friendly and efficient. The shrimp and fries tasted good. Cons: Cod bites were mediocre and by the time drinks (two soft drinks) and a $6 bowl of soup were added, we were in for a $40 lunch. McDonald's filet would have been just as good, and will most likely be our choice over JRs next time. read more

One star cause I can't give zero stars. I'll be honest and upfront. I have no idea how the food is at JR's Bar & Grill. I'm told the garlic burger is amazing. And that's straight from trusted friends. However, when I walk into an establishment, I expect to be greeted by the host/hostess prior to standing right in front of him/her for 20 minutes. Pros: The prime rib was very good and the restaurant had a lot of staff on hand. The beer selection was standard. Cons: The salad didn't look fresh, and the lettuce should have been chopped into smaller bit sizes. Our waitress was nowhere to be found from the time she took our order until our food was served 25 minutes later. This was a missed opportunity to sell more drinks. The booth next to ours had to flag another waitress in order to get their check. Finally, the baked potatoes needed another 10 minutes in the oven. read more

However, if you are looking for a basic food dining experience, where the burgers are good and the spicy chicken strip salad is fine, this is good. It is in a Casino, and there is a heavily permeated reeking, smoking smell, which deteriorates the experience. However, the beer was cold, if flat, and the service was very solicitous and friendly. Probably one of the best breakfasts in Elko can be found at JRs and it's reasonable to boot! Be sure to order the stuffed potatoes with bacon to accompany your eggs or pancakes. The food here was OK for a few reasons. I ordered the chicken and everyone else had a steak. The meat entrees were good. Seasoned well and cooked properly. However, the vegetables were hideously overcooked. There were straight mush! The waitress we had was ok but totally spaced out. Seriously spaced out...like she had just used heroin or something. She would barely mumble out a response and the 16 year old guy who took our drink orders tried to memorize them and got them wrong.
