My dining partner got the prime rib, it was a huge generous potion that LOOKED great. As far as prime rib goes, it was dry and tough. It just wasn't a great cut of prime rib. The sides were generic. The spaghetti reminded me of canned chef boy-r-d, the green beans were canned. The salad was watery iceberg lettuce with a dressing that seemed to be only mayonnaise. The rice was ok. The star plate was the augrautin potatoes. Overall the experience wasn't "bad", it was an ok meal for the money, but nothing special. I recommend the baked lamb for the best bang for your buck. I'm surprised by the mix of reviews, honestly. On a recent trip through Nevada we spent the night in Elko, and it happened to be next door. My wife and I enjoyed the family style service, and while she had lamb chops, I enjoyed pork chops, and both were prepared perfectly. It may be just a bit pricy to some, but look where you're at! We had pretty good service overall. First off my drink cup was dirty and had a chuck of food stuck to the inside of the cup when delivered and the food was so greasy. I ordered the BLATT basically a BLT with turkey and avocado. My sandwich came with fries and soup. Their soup was good and clearly made from scratch as I had bones in my bowl. Also when I ordered I asked if it was toasted when I order she said yes. However when it arrived the bread was yellow with a very oily butter and burned in areas. My fries were also sitting in grease. Overall the food was not good. Our server asked if we wanted boxes and we both replied no as we were not fans of the food. After looking at the reviews I can't help but think that most of Elko has a terrible palate. The soup was decent. The rice was drier than the Sahara, the salad was wilted and drenched in some unidentifiable dressing. The lobster is obviously frozen before it's prepared and the steak was tough and chewy. The only redeeming feature this restaurant has is it's attentive staff. Went for my son's graduation and the entire party was disappointed in the food. This is a very nice family style dining restaurant. I ordered the crab stuffed shrimp and mushrooms, expecting it with a side. Well, every few minutes, the waitress came by with another dish. I've eaten at Basque Restaurants all over Nevada and California. I really like them. Toki Ona is now one of my favorites. I'm writing this assuming that you know what to expect at a Basque Restaurant - Family Style dinner. Soup, Salad, Bread, Sides, then you choose your meat (and at Toki Ona your potato) I had the rib eye steak and my husband had lamb chops. The rib eye is huge and delicious. Always have it with the garlic on top. Its soft sautéed and so delicious. The bread was wonderful, the Anna or Scalloped potatoes are amazing. I loved both the soup and the salad. I usually don't at Basque Restaurants, they're often very blah. The dressing on the salad was so good! The soup was a very tasty chicken noodle with tomatoes. They make all their desserts in house. We split a Tiramisu for dessert and it was delicious! The service was amazing! Better than any of the Basque restaurants we've been to in the past few years. We weren't packed in like sardines; much much more comfortable than The Star Hotel. Great service, great food, comfortable relaxed meal. The only thing I wish was different is that they'd make some of the sides more interesting. I do love Basque style camp beans and wish they'd been on the menu. I want to thank the owners, chefs, staff and especially Perla for a very enjoyable meal after a long day on the road. There is nothing Basque about this place. The food was cheap, both in price of ingredients and quality. Soup was watery broth with overcooked pasta stars. Salad was bagged iceberg (not even a beet or a tomato) with watery mayo & vinegar dressing. "Hot turkey sandwich" was just that: sandwich meat topped with package gravy. Roast lamb had been reheated and was dark brown and even crispy around the edges! All the sides were reheated, over salted, and overdone (almost didn't recognize the rice dish it was so gloppy). Fries were also refried and dark brown (maybe "refries" are a new dish). The service was prompt and friendly however. Don't waste you money here. Way way over priced. Everything comes out of a can, the "salad" is iceberg lettuce drenched in nasty fake ranch dressing, it is a lot of food, but it's all cheap canned crap. My pork chop was raw in parts and burnt in other parts. Way disappointed!! I'm pretty sure 90% of my entire meal came from a can, a box, or a bag. The salad was a soggy mixture of Mayo and vinegar. The server said "It's good if you crumble some crackers on top. That way it isn't so soggy". Green beans from a can and bowl of mush that once began life as rice pilaf. Overheard from the server at the next table: "The chef scraped some of the oil off (your steak) so let me know if it's still too salty, and then he'll take it back". Toki Ona has the benefit of being next door to the Days Inn and because we didn't feel like driving anymore, we walked over for dinner. Their sign advertises Basque and American cuisine. However, it seemed that the only thing Basque may have been the pictures showing Spain's Basque region on the wall. For the cost of several of the entrees I was expecting a nicer interior, but it felt more like I was eating in a Denny's or something. The vinyl seats were cracking and the place was definitely dated. There is a bar, but take note that food is not served in the bar. Toki Ona specializes in meat and seafood. Many of their meat and seafood entrees are $25+ which seemed a bit steep for the area. However, the entrees are enormous which made me extremely happy that we chose to SHARE a single entree. In addition to the meat, Toki Ona also has a small wine menu. We chose one of the house wines that you can get in a liter, half liter, or by the glass. We got a liter, because why not? It was a decent wine and it was half the cost of any of the bottles they offered. A chicken soup is served along with some fresh bread when you are seated. The chicken soup was light on flavor, but tasted okay. The menu indicates several sides available with the entrees and I thought that you choose ONE of the sides, but you get ALL of the sides with your entree. We shared the rib eye steak (there is a charge for sharing - $8 in our case) and that came with a salad with their house dressing which was a tangy ranch. The salad was just iceberg lettuce chunks coated in dressing. In addition, you received a rice dish that had a unique flavor to it that we both enjoyed and was also mixed with peas and carrots. Next came spaghetti. I thought the addition of spaghetti seemed odd, and it tasted of nothing more than canned spaghetti - bland and watery. A dish of green beans showed up - also faded and tasting canned. Finally you got a potato - baked or Ana style. Not knowing what Ana was, I chose that potato. Turns out it is like a baked potato but without the skin. Broiled with butter and cheese it had a wonderful crispiness on the top and tasted great! The highlight of the meal was the rib eye, it was cooked perfectly, and if I'm ever back here again, I'd happily just pay for the rib eye and the potato. The rest of the side dishes ended up going to waste and was simply too much food. read more

It is alright. When I think of Basque, I think of Louie's in Reno. Toki Ona has the advantage of being right off of I-80. The service is good. The food is mediocre for a full price Basque restaurant. Greasy chicken. Uneventful vegetables. Salad is iceberg lettuce mixed with mayonnaise. Fries are soggy. Fortunately, we had just come out of the Ruby Mountains hunting for Himalayan Snowcock, so we were tired and famished - therefore, once we sat down, we just ate. FOR. The top sirloin is perfectly seasoned and the garlic (you have to get it with garlic) makes it that much better. And ALWAYS order a salad with the Basque dressing. Got it with garlic (is there any question) and it was properly cooked to medium rare. Served with tasty (house-made by taste & texture) bean and sausage soup, salad and french fries. Docked a star because the salad was WAY TOO overdressed. If I didn't know better I would call it dressing with lettuce... It is sad because the dressing was decent. Food seemed pretty much homemade, and if they used home baked bread, I would have been really happy. If Toki Ona was near home, I would rate 3 stars, but for Elko, well have to rate it 4 because of lack of other options... Would return if I am craving a large Basque dinner. read more

We were in Elko, NV for an overnight stop on a longer trip. In looking at our options on Yelp, we settled on Toki Ona. I liked the idea of family style serving of the various additional items as part of the meal. I have to admit I was disappointed. The food wasn't terrible, but all three of our party agreed that the food was quite bland. It is as if no spices or sauces were used at all in cooking them. A couple of our party had steaks and they said they weren't terrible, but not what you'd expect for that $25+ steak. I think the best thing I had were the french fries. The soup tasted a lot like a Campbell's soup product. Overall, it was just mediocre and way too mediocre for the $90+ our party of 3 paid for it. read more
