Ordered a side order of pork feet and a stinky tofu for $16. The tofu doesn't come with kimchi any more. The side order of pork feet for $6 and it only comes with 5 small pieces. The price went up but the amount of food is much less. The tofu is not crispy like it used to be. Huge disappointment. read more

Known for their stinky tofu, which goes at $5 for 3 pieces. The taste is pretty authentic, but unfortunately I don't think the portion size or the nature of the food warrants a $5 price tag. Their three pieces, while it looks big are actually not all that much because the tofu slices are so small. After they fry it up it looks big with an extra shell on it. I'd go there again for their stinky tofu if I ever craved it again, but only if I really craved it. That being said, the rest of their food is very very boring. Nothing at all compared to the better Taiwanese places that litter the area. Their dan-dan noodles were just such a sad sight. Their Wonton Noodle Soups were also quite boring. Wouldn't come again for their other stuff unless I was really on a budget, in which case this place still has to get in line behind all the cheap eats that the 626 offers. read more

To start off, I was born in Taiwan and lived there for around 8 years, but I visit practically every summer. This place is amazing. It's the first place where I found real sliced pork rice in America (others only have ground pork) and I've had my share of Taiwanese restaurants. I would strongly recommend getting the sliced pork rice. The stinky tofu was excellent and very similar to the ones from Taiwan's street vendors. I enjoyed it even more knowing that it was prepared in a safe and clean environment vs on the street. The plum juice was just okay and a bit on the pricey side. The restaurant is located in a pretty isolated plaza and doesn't really have a lot of customers (i.e. I went at 7pm on a Friday night and my family was the only one there). It is also on the pricey side considering the portions. However, I think the food is superb and for what it's worth, the food is definitely cheaper than getting a plane ticket back to Tawain. This is as good as it's going to get here in America!! I hope this place doesn't close down due to its lack of customers and business though, because the food is truly to die for. read more

I've picked up food from this place a couple times and always had a great experience. I called in the order beforehand, and they had it ready for me when I got there. The times when I didn't call in, I looked at the menu, and the guy in the white shirt at the counter is super nice and super patient with explaining items on the menu, which is in English and Chinese. I love that this restaurant does not use MSG, and the prices are budget-friendly. The stinky tofu is really good, and whatever else I've tried I really like as well. I appreciate that they take the time to package the to-go food carefully with cardboard on the bottom of the bag so that it's less likely for the liquid to spill. I wish this place also had oyster noodle. That would really complete my Taiwanese food experience. I would come here all the time!! read more

Very casual Taiwanese restaurant with various small rice, noodle, snack dishes. The diced pork is very good. The stinky tofu is not stinky at all. It taste like fried regular tofu. The stinky tofu at the 626 Night Market is way better. The server says the City of Arcadia doesn't allow them to have really stinky tofu...really? The city has a stink meter? How would they be able to tell the difference between the smell of the tofu and their Santa Anita Race Track? The pork chop and rice is their specialty, but the pork is super oily and dry. Definitely a NO. Sausage, Taiwanese meatball, and bamboo steamed rice are nothing to write about. Very mediocre. Service is pleasant and the place is clean. This is my new favorite taiwanese eatery. I go to Sinbala so much less now that Tofu King is around. They are good not only for their stinky tofu (which is good, but still not quite up to par with Taiwan stinky tofu... but that's hard to achieve here) but also their fatty pork rice, A-choy, minced meat over rice, and basically all the taiwanese eats you love. The only thing that I didn't like here so far was the beef soup - I think I got dumplings in beef soup and it tasted like dumplings dumped in some soy sauce water. I assume that's the same broth they use for beef noodles, so I'd avoid the beef noodles as well. The simple noodles here (qie-ah mian and yang chun mian) are pretty good. read more

Well you are right that they're famous for their stinky tofu, the problem was when I walked in there wasn't any stench at all! Now I thought maybe they were able to ventilate the place very well, but when the orders came out there was still no stink! I even lifted a piece of tofu up to my nose and it had NO SMELL! I ORDERED STINKY TOFU NOT TOFU! COMMON! Now I really don't know if the stink correlates with the taste, but I can say this tofu was tasteless. Based on the glowing LA Times article, a few of us intrepid food adventurers made the trek to Arcadia for some stinky tofu. First, a couple of things. 1) None of us is Taiwanese or Chinese. 2) None of us had ever eaten stinky tofu before. 3) I don't eat pork. So you see, we were kind of in a boat with no paddles here. We ordered a TON of food, and were assured by our host that a few dishes did not contain meat of any kind. It all came to the table covered in pork. So a note to you who visit - just mention, right off the bat, that you don't eat pork, and they will happily accommodate you. After three strikes, they brought out a delicious, and I mean, OMG delicious, noodle dish without pork. Meanwhile, the other two food adventurers were slurping down the pork dishes like rabid dogs. The noodle dishes can not be underestimated. I had the dry Taiwanese noodles, and my pals had pork soup noodles and also the dry version of the pork noodles. They also ordered a mushroom/Pork/rice ball that they loved, but I didn't try it. I had a Winter Melon Tea, and let me tell you something - it was remarkable. It tasted like sweet maple syrup tea, chilled with ice... aaaaahhh. Beautiful. We all had different beverages (sweet and plain teas) and they were all fab. And yes, of course, we ordered the stinky tofu. The texture and the sauce was great. The kimchi was great. But I will agree with other yelpers that it is an acquired taste. It is not for everyone. This is tofu that has been marinating in a crushed vegetable mash for days (used to be weeks), so you really have to have an open mind and a welcoming palate for this dish. I don't think that the tofu smells stinky, necessarily... but it certainly has a stinky taste. Therefore, order one dish to split until you are convinced that you like it! Overall, it was a good experience, and I will definitely return when I am back in Arcadia for those noodles. Oh yeah, and for sure the winter melon tea! The tofu? The staff here doesn't do double check with the order and made my husband purchased 2 wrong items. He can't recognize mandarin characters well and the stuff ensure the wrong item even after he showed them the English item name. read more

Shittiest attitude I've ever seen. I ordered to-go and the total was 43.20. I didn't know they only accept cash, and I only had 42 dollar with me, I ask the guy(most likely the boss, around 50yrs old.)if I can get a little discount, just top it off at 42 dollars. He yells back "are you forcing me?" I just kindly ask if I can get discount or not. I told him I am not forcing him, I told him I can find other solution for this. this is another branch off of the one in Rowland heights next to the Hong Kong market. We ordered the stinky tofu, sticky rice, A vegetables and some other small dishes. The stinky tofu definitely was not stinky at all! My breath doesn't even stink (which I suppose is a good thing), but it just wasn't as tasty. The tofu was a little on the rough side. I prefer the Rowland Heights one. The sticky rice was alright, a little over flooded with the sauce (be sure to get it on the side if you go). A vegetables you just can't go wrong with if you cook it right so it was good to me. The other small dishes were all your typical Taiwanese food. The waiter was extremely friendly and quick to serve. We barley had to wait for our food, which was great since we were just looking for a quick sit down place to eat. 2nd visit: Stinky tofu- the crispy small cubes are crunchy and delicious. they're less tofu, but more skin-- i like these more than the big square pieces (which have more of the spongy tofu texture inside). The pickled veggie *pao cai* it comes w/ is so addictive. Love it so much! Lu/RU rou rice - fatty pork + skinny minced meat rice (2 separate types) were both delicious though overall the fatty one is more tasty. The lean minced one is good to mix together w/ the fatty one. shredded pork w/ pickled veggie rice bowl was decent. but not as good as the ru rou rice. TW sausage is standard. not bad if you are craving it. Beef noodle soup- regular noodles like the picture were good. nice bounce off the teeth feel when eating it. soup base is not bad. beef still tender. liang mian cold noodle- pass. not recommended since nothing about it is stand out. its a light peanut buttery taste (not savory enough) and there's not much ingredients to the dish--mainly noodles, shredded carrots, and shoestring size cucumbers. Overall, i would come here for the stinky tofu and the lu/ru rou rice ----- 1st visit: Pork chop rice very standard. Grilled chicken thigh I would pass. I really want to give them a good review, but it's a bit hard with so many good authentic restaurants in the area. Unlike some restaurants where I want to give a negative star rating but can't, this place is a true 1 star. Let's start off with service: The place wasn't all that busy at 12:30 p.m. (clear sign we should have stayed away from but felt adventurous) but after our food has been served for awhile, I noticed no drinks were offered, not even water was served until I had to hunt down the waiter. When I did, he gave a perplexed look and asked, oh you want a drink? It was in the high 80's outside and we had ordered food. What normal person doesn't need to be hydrated? Food and authenticity: We had ordered their Taiwanese stinky tofu, Mushroom and pork with soy sauce egg rice, fishball rice noodle soup, and wonton beef soup. - Stinky Tofu - Just another fried tofu with barely a hint of the ferment. You call this authenticity?? - Mushroom and pork with soy sauce egg rice - sweet sauce friendly stir fried mushroom and pork with the sauce oversaturating the rice (aka mushy rice) with a boiled egg the color of soy sauce. The yolk wasn't even marinated. The small bowl of rice didn't taste terrible, just a mouthful of thickened sweet soy sauce saturated rice. - Fishball rice noodle soup - Also didn't taste terrible but for a large bowl of soup, you get a few piece of fishballs with a handful of noodles and soy bean sprouts. - Wonton beef soup - This was an atrocity. This thing was literally very dark soy sauce water with a few pieces of wonton skins (you might find a piece of meat the size of your fingertip in the wontons) topped with diced green onions. Decently priced Taiwanese food. When we went around 1pm they had run out of the large stinky tofu, so we had the small cubed tofu. It was alright, not very hot or stinky. Stinky Tofu: Flavorful but lacking in stinkiness. Great stinky tofu can stand by itself, but this stinky tofu probably wouldnt be able to stand by itself without the sauce. Minced pork with mushroom - super delicious but the bowl is extremely small Beef stew tendon noodle - standard at best. It lacked that rich, deep flavor that we are accustomed to in "hong shao niu ru men" Maybe its because we came here at 1PM but the whole place only had ONE waitress. They were so extremely understaffed, we sat around waiting to put in our order with tables of dirty dishes not being attended to. Not worth the drive to Arcadia in my honest opinion read more

Ahh... I've tried many stinky tofu in Cali and I have to say this place has the best I've had! I had their signature stinky tofu and it came with some kimchi and light garlic soy sauce. I actually liked how the sauce made the tofu more flavorful! Since so many people raved about the mushroom rice I decided I HAD to try it. I have to say it was just ok... it wasn't the best minced meat over rice that I've had. I also tried the Taiwan style rice cakes. It was so good! The sauce and the ground up peanut sprinkled on top... just made me remember these small plates from Taiwan! I know Arcadia's full of these Taiwanese places, but I would def come back and get the stinky tofu! I can't wait to go and try some of the other things on their menu. Their Stinky Tofu is really really really yummy!!! and also their special kimchi/pico.. ZOMG so good!! Staff are very attentive and friendly, and there was not much of a wait. The reason why its only 4 stars is because i dunno.. the other stuff i got other than the stinky tofu; pork stew rice and plain noodle soup (not that plain actually) weren't THAT great. I've had better pork stew rice some where else. The plain noodle soup (yang chuan noodle) was not bad i'd give it a 4/5 for that too! the broth was delicious and it tasted very authentic! Yum, think I found my new favorite Taiwanese place in Arcadia -- food here is really authentic! Their signature dishes are the stinky tofu (get the big square ones, not the bite size one), lu-ro rice (braised & simmered pork rice), and beef noodle soup. Some other good ones are their vermicelli and sausage rice. Their small dishes remind me of ones in Taiwan too. I was pretty pleased. I thought this place has better Taiwanese place than Sinbala across the street (just saying). Another thing is that this place has no MSG. At first I thought they were just saying that to attract customers, but their food does taste lighter and I don't feel thirsty after drinking their soup, so I'm pretty convinced that they don't use MSG. If you don't like the stinky tofu smell, you may want to take the food to-go because this place wreaks of that smell. It's definitely an acquired smell and not for everyone. The parking here is really easy because the restaurant is in a plaza with less stores. One con about this place is that the menu has a smaller selection. Other than that, I think this will be my goto place to get my Taiwanese food fix when I'm in Arcadia! read more

It is rare for me to post one star, but this place has really taken the piss out of me. I came back to Arcadia to celebrate President's weekend with my mother, and decided to dive in here after a nice afternoon walk in the arboretum. It was around 4.30, and we were the only two customers in the place. The server left the restaurant after taking our order to buy his own take-out dinner from nearby restaurant. A server who doesn't even eat the food from his own restaurant! We ordered some stinky tofu, seaweed, this thing i don't know how to pronounce, and a bowl of Taiwan fish ball soup. The soup was just 5 fucking fish balls with salt and water!! How dare you serve that to costumers and charge $5 dollars for that shit? If I weren't with my mother and was forced to put on my best behavior, I would have sent that soup straight back to the kitchen and demand my money back. The whole place stinks like the stinky tofu they serve, literately. I will not be coming back. read more

I'm Taiwanese especially in the arcadia area it is even to compare Taiwanese food. I think as far as the slice/minced pork over pork, this place has the edge over sinbala. It has the southern Taiwanese stewed pork sauce. Which means it is a sweet soy base. As far as it being too fatty, that's really how it is usually served in taiwan. Located in the heart of Chinese part of LA. Stinky tofu is good, and has the outside crunch. It is fried hard, but without the nose plugging stench. On a scale of 1-10 - on stink.. it is just a 5 or 6 on my scale. I like is stinking up the whole store stank... The beef noodle soup is just ok. More oily than beefy. Overall, this place can give you the good TW fix if you need it, but there are stinker and better TW places in the area. read more

I've been on a major hunt for a dish I hold near and dear to my heart. Minced pork rice, more widely known in Taiwan as lu ròu fàn! It's simple in concept and ingredients that being ground pork marinated and boiled in soy sauce served on top of steamed rice, but not easy to execute well. In my quest I stumbled upon Tofu King and dropped in for literally this dish alone so I can not attest to their stinky tofu. Don't get me wrong I love stinky tofu also, but I had only one mission in mind. The one biggest grip of minced pork rice I find is that most places in Arcadia that is deviate from how it is classically or more popularly made in Taiwan which is with FATTY pork. Well Tofu King does it the RIGHT WAY. It isn't quite the best, but given the scarce availability of finding the proper lu ròu fàn its the best I've had in Arcadia and I would gladly come back. The fatty pork was delicious and the soy based sauce was slightly sweet. I wish I had more sour pickled veggie on the side. lu ròu fàn! lu ròu fàn! lu ròu fàn! The restaurant was clean and the service was excellent. One order cost4 dollars which seemed a bit steep if you ask me. I'll come back for the stinky tofu and do an update.
