Came here for the first time on Cinco de Mayo. This place is pretty big, with two full floors. Decor is very homey, and exactly what I would expect a diner to look like. They had some cool specials on the board, but I wanted to try one of their everyday items. They have a lot of options on the menu, and regardless of what kind of diet you're on, you can find something here! A lot of their items are fun, such as their unicorn tears drink & captain crunch pancakes...they definitely cater to my inner child. I started off with the dulce de leche latte, which was really good! They pile whipped cream on it, so if you don't like a lot of whip, make sure to let them know before hand, lol. Their regular coffee is good too, and they offer to go cups if you want to hit the road with your java. For food, we got the huevos rancheros and the Cuban sandwich with French fries. Both were delicious. I wish they toasted my Cuban sandwich just a bit longer, but aside from that, no complaints. Heidi is the best! Absolutely incredible food. The menu is quite extensive with amazing ingredients and huge portion sizes. The price of the dishes are an absolute steal. Can't wait to go back and try more. I also love that the servers are so attuned to families with small children. BUT let me tell you... the Belgian waffle was so beyond good it made up for any small down side of the other items. Like I said, I can't wait to go back! Please be careful if you have allergies or intolerances. I will never eat this disgusting place ever again. I'm a vegetarian, I asked three times to confirm if the dish I was ordering had meat. The waitress assured me there wasn't and checked with the kitchen but yet they still put meat in the dish. I haven't eaten meat in 18 years and wasn't planning to start. I feel disgusting and sad and they ruined my entire day. I don't know if I feel sick from physically eating meat or if it's psychological response but either way, I don't feel well. Adorable restaurant that's so great for brunch! Toast is in a really cute part of town, so if there's a wait, you can put your name on the wait list and walk around until they text you when your table is ready. We got there around 1pm on a Saturday with a party of 4 people and did exactly that -- I didn't realize that it was BYOB until we arrived, so we went down the street to get champagne and were ready to be seated by the time we got back. My sister and I split a spinach & feta omelette and carrot cake pancakes for the savory/sweet combo. The omelette was big and stuffed with a lot of filling (we subbed mushrooms for grilled onions which went really well with the spinach and cheese), and it came with yummy breakfast potatoes. I LOVED the carrot cake pancakes, which were nice and fluffy and came with a side of cream cheese frosting -- they were definitely sweet, but not overwhelmingly so (and they make super satisfying late-night leftovers). Apparently, when you ask for an item and it comes out with particles, and hair on it, you send it back, and it comes back out cold, you send it back, and it comes out burnt, you're supposed to just accept it. Am I blind? Am I seeing unburnt food, but my mind is just playing tricks on me? Did they notice it was burnt when they sent it out, or are they trying to "teach" the paying customer a lesson? I love everything about Toast, from the friendliness of the service to the delicious giant sized portions they serve. This is the quintessential brunch establishment you want in your neighborhood. But just like any hotspot brunch location, my friend and I were quoted a 45-minute wait yesterday at around noon. To our pleasant surprise, a table was ready for us after 20 minutes though. The restaurant is on two floors, but it's pretty cramped and narrow so I can see why there's a wait. There's also no where to wait besides the enclosed entrance or outside on the street. Cinnamon Buns [$5]: There are three cinnamon buns to an order. Even though they're a starter, they're actually a decent size for two people to share or for me to eat by myself [that's why you can find me at the gym all the time]. They come warm and gooey with icing. The icing is magnificent. The best part is I didn't find them annoyingly sweet. Irish Eggs Benedict [$13]: I don't usually order Eggs Benedict. This is my boyfriends brunch item of choice. I'm not sure what's come over me, I think I spend too much time with him. What makes these eggs benedict from Ireland you ask? They're topped with a generous portion of corned beef hash. I guess that makes me Irish when I put on a green shirt. Actually, the bountiful amount of hash was great for mixing in the runny egg and surprisingly, it didn't make the rest of the plate too salty. This was fabulous. Red Velvet Pancakes [$4.95]: My friend has a thing for table pancakes and I don't blame her. We got a single red velvet pancake to share. While I think red velvet, the flavor, is a lie, this didn't detract from the pancake itself which was soft and fluffy. Of course, it was also as big as my face. The homemade icing on the side was delicious, I was spooning it out of the container. I also got a latte [$3.50], which happened to be bigger and better than any latte I've had in New York for the same price. I drank too much alcohol this weekend so it didn't even occur to me that Toast was BYOB until later. The moral of the story is to get anything with icing at Toast. And come very hungry. $44 before tip for two people. Very reasonable! read more
