We really wanted to like them! The wait was 45 minutes (no online reservation mechanism) which I understand. They are brand new and still feeling things out but the wait didn't end there. Once we were seated, our waitress was pulled in so many directions and we waited for water and couldn't get her when we needed something. They were out of the matcha latte and hash brown waffles, which we understood. They don't know their inventory needs yet. I ordered the cinnamon roll waffles, potatoes, bacon and I split the mimosa flight. My friends ordered the Chilaquiles & the Hangover Skillet. The cinnamon waffles were hard but decent, the potatoes were FIRE, probably some of the best breakfast potatoes I have ever had, the bacon was basic and the mimosa flight wasn't good. We couldn't tell the difference between flavors, they were super small and I couldn't tell there was champagne in them. Tucson has enough places offering flights with full bottles of champagne and bottomless mimosas. When the food arrived, they mixed up the chilaquiles with the skillet and my friend doesn't eat pork so she was worried. Because the skillet had a jalapeño, we knew to ask for clarification. The chilaquiles also didn't have full tortilla chips, they were strips and that also gave into the confusion. When the check came, I gave the waitress $10 and my card. I assumed she'd run the money first and put the difference on the card but instead, she took the $10 for a tip. My mom and I came to Toast 101 on a Thursday. We were given two seating choices: the high tops right in front and a smaller booth in the back left. We went with the booth, but later I would see if you walk deeper into the restaurant they have two adorable seating areas with plants and fun paint colors, which I wish I would've been shown at first. I really loved the decor once we walked through, it has a really fun atmosphere. Our food came out quickly and the service was good. I got the veggie skillet and the eggs were cooked perfectly! My mom got the Crunch 101 which was also delicious: everything you know and love about French toast but make it crunchy! The bacon trio board included classic, jalapeño and maple bacon. I was impressed by the jalapeño flavored pieces, but the maple bacon seemed like just your average bacon with maple syrup put on top after cooking and the classic was as good as bacon you'd make at home. When I get a bacon flight, I'm expecting unique flavors and great cuts of meat. The bacon was good, but could've been better. We both had Yellow Brick Coffee and enjoyed it thoroughly. I ordered the super bowl to go to bring home to my partner. I would've preferred to order her a skillet but there were no plant based egg alternatives, so I went with the super bowl. Couldn't tell you what our waiters name was because he never mentioned it but he was definitely stretched thin. He gave me water with hair in the cup and it took me about ten min to get his attention to get another cup. The menu is all over the place, most items seemed ala carte and swapping things isn't an option. I also did not like the mix of temperatures of all the ingredients, the tomatoes were very cold while the rest of the ingredients were room temperature or warm. My parents went early to put our name down and after waiting an hour and a half they said we will be seated in about 20 mins, only to be seated another hour later. Terrible experience. When the food runner brought the corned beef hash out covered in the mustard sauce which I had asked to be omitted or put on the side, I was told, "Sorry, try it - maybe you'll like it." Being open to life's little adventures I complied. Nope. Didn't like it like I thought I wouldn't. Tried covering it up with ketchup to hide the coating of gross on the less than crispy, if not soggy corned beef hash that resembled a brown rice pudding. I had driven by Toast many times and decided to check it out. Mistake! We sat in the "patio" area which had a lot of traffic noise. The holiday music was so loud it was hard to have a conversation. It was hard to find anything healthy on the menu--this is the place if you have a sweet tooth. My hot chai had a hair in it. The breakfast potatoes are perfection. My partner got a platter of chicken fingers and fries. My daughter got a basic breakfast and loved it. You will not leave hungry. This is a prime location for a restaurant, and it has been home to many. Toast 101 is a hopping breakfast / brunch / lunch spot. And, during a weekday visit, it was busy!!! Totally cute decor and a maze of tables greet the public. Seating is close, which is a little off-putting with Covid still being quite rampant. The staff is masked, and tables are clean. Nothing is on the tables (salt, pepper, ketchup, etc). We were seated and given menus, and visited a couple of minutes later by our friendly server, and drink orders were taken. The menu has lots to choose from, but it isn't overwhelming. My husband chose the hangover skillet and I chose chicken fried steak and scrambled eggs. Food was brought to us a few minutes later by another server, but we had no utensils. Strike one. She had to go through the maze of tables to get to the counter - no utensils wrapped in the first bin. We watched as she went to a farther area where she did find wrapped utensils, and then she had to go back through the maze of tables and checking on her own customers first (completely understandable). Our server was still someplace else. We then were able to eat. My husband's dish was great! A nice spice to the chorizo, the potatoes were still crispy, a tasty cheese sauce, and just a really good meal. My chicken fried steak and gravy were ok, but the gravy tasted like it was a pre-packaged item. The eggs were a little dry, but edible. My potatoes were the same as in my husband's dish (they were definitely not fresh - most likely frozen). The meal was mostly good, though mostly warm, not really hot. Then we finished, and we sat. And we sat. And we sat. Lunchtime - need to get back to work. Other servers saw us, and we all watched as our server was proudly discussing his tattoo with the table in front of us (nothing wrong with that, but we were waiting for boxes and a check, and our server wasn't aware of us). Big miscommunication between the service staff and kitchen. Silverware came to our table dirty, coffee cup was chipped and cracked. We ordered coffee and waters and only received one refill on the coffees. We ordered five meals,three came out right away. Two of the meals came out incorrect and incomplete. Took roughly 20mins to receive the other meals. When they attempted to correct their mistakes (missing bacon,missing pancakes,fruit,etc) they still came back incorrect or delayed. The hollandaise sauce was cold, the kids meals were missing sides,the chicken chorizo was not good and some of it was cold. I cannot recommend this place to friends and family visiting from out of town. I made a huge mistake going there in the first place.
