First when I got there and walked in, i asked the front desk - older man for eye brows waxing, he chuckled and another younger lady assisted me. I went back with another lady for my eye brows and immediately she got to work on my brows. She was pretty hastily and rough and didn't ask or talk to my prior starting. I was worried how it'll turn out, which it didn't turn out too bad but she missed a few spots. My main complaint isn't that the service was a bit rushed and but that the technicians burned my skin and left a scar. I politely told her I have an appointment and she said to wait a few minutes. 15 mins later she gets up come to do my nails but never apologize for making me wait. I don't recommend you come to this place. I came in for a gel manicure and pedicure and literally had FOUR people shuffling between other clients and myself! In addition, while in a haste, one of the nail technicians cut my skin on my big toe and attempted not acknowledging it by just putting pressure on it so I would not notice. When I inquired what the sting was, she said "oh honey, don't worry". She proceeded doing my nails as if I couldn't feel the sting and subsequently the blood that was coming out. They proceeded to put some type of antiseptic on my cut and were reluctant to tell me what they were putting on it. I had to ask several times before the owner brought me a bottle of the product with legible markings so I could see. Mind you, not a single time did I receive an apology or acknowledgement of my injury from the owner. It seems a lady named "My Tran" is the acrylics person. She came and did the acrylic on my big toe and I had to provide directions multiple times. She was not listening because she seemed to be in a rush the entire time. For example when I told her the water in the bowl was too hot, she told me to "wait a few minutes and keep my feet in the bowl". I had to tell her "I cannot wait a few minutes because the water is burning my feet". My Tran came over to do my acrylics on my finger Nails and did the most horrible nail job I have ever seen. It was thick, bulky, and misshapen. Throughout her work, I had to redirect her on missed spots, bubbles in the paint, etc. I asked that she fix it and also relayed this to the owner. She offered to take the polish off, and thought she was going to start over. Instead, she took the polish off and refused to redo the polish. She said "I cannot do your Nails" and was supported by the owner. All in all, I paid $65 and 4+ hours of my time and all I left with is a mediocre pedicure and horrid acrylics that I now have to find someone else to fix. I do NOT recommend this place. I may live in Adams Morgan and have my favorite to go spa place, but when I'm in the area I choose this place because of their cleanliness, friendliness and service. I came here on a Friday after work and it was nice to find parking on the street directly across from the salon. I chose to get a gel manicure and a pedicure. The salon was only open for 45 more minutes, yet they were kind enough to take me. I first chose my color for my feet and then I asked him to pick a light pink for my gel color for my nails.As I sat down in the chair for the pedicure, so technician asked if I wanted to do a spa type of pedicure. This involved extra salt scrub and 10 minutes of massage. I was very exhausted from the week, so I treated myself to the extra massage. I was happy, that I did this because what a relief it was to feel your muscles relax. Once she finished my pedicure she moved onto my nails. I stayed until 8:30, 30 minutes after the shop had closed. I want to thank them for their professionalism, the cleanliness of their salon and their willingness to stay later than closing time. read more

In addition to my nails not looking good and literally bleeding everywhere - the worst part is at the very end they over charged me by $30. When I saw my receipt I asked why I was charged $85 when the menu literally says $55. They said I picked " spa" I looked at the woman and said I literally pointed at the menu.... You saw which one I picked right? She said "yeah but then I asked you spa pedicure and you said yes" in which I was shocked and asked again, I pointed at it twice even when you asked me that. Why would you do that? They then said "it's okay sometimes YOU make mistakes. It's $85." The entire situation shocked me. I literally did not know how to respond. Price is very reasonable and location is perfect...located in Del Rey, so you can make a trip out of getting your nails done. I typically walk a few blocks to enjoy a local meal, they have everything in this neighborhood to include ice cream! Back to Heather - she did a great job with my nails that it lasted up to 3 weeks...I could have gone a 4th week but my nails were too long and I needed a trim. She's typically off on Monday's so keep that in mind when making an appointment or visiting the salon. Minus one star for the older salon. Minus another star because two of my nails uncharacteristically broke due to too much paint/product on them! I typically drive 45 minutes to Ashburn's Serenity Nails for consistently great personalized mani/pedis. But I've accepted that I must find someplace closer! Thanks to the prior reviews I had great confidence in this salon. I really liked the fact that they hold appointments at a top priority. I like that they seemed genuinely concerned about my happiness with my nails. I also liked the easiness of parking. Plan to arrive 5 minutes early to allow time to find free street parking or walk from the parking spot you find! It's the Del Ray neighborhood so it's never a bad or boring walk, but the storefront street parking is limited. I did not like the selection of gel colors, good for standard manis but when you're looking for the newest or latest trend I'm not sure they'd have it. I also did not like the general state of the salon. While it was not out and out dirty it didn't look sparkling clean either. The salon pedicure chairs look to be about 5-6 years old. The sink is one from a 2000's house bathroom. I did not use the bathroom here yet. The man that answers the phones/manages the salon took me 15 minutes early for my 6:30 Monday evening gel manicure ($30.00). He handed me three palettes of gel nail colors (no new 2015 summer colors from what I saw). I prefer to look at the bottles so he directed me to the back of the salon. He filed my nails at one of the 10 mani stations until he wrapped them in foil. He was very nice even while managing the 10 or so pedicure chairs and 5 techs. After 10 min of sitting with the nail color removing foil solution My (the technician) came to take care of me. I highly recommend her for gel manicures. I like thin, natural looking nails and she took extra care to meet my needs. She does have a '2 bottom stroke then one complete stoke' technique that could build up the polish quickly towards the bottom but she quickly changed tactics after I pointed out the thickness of the first nail's bottom half. Another thing My likes to do is add two base layers, three color coats, and two top coat layers...two of my nails broke (this is highly irregular for me) 5 days after my manicure. I think all the layers of polish really dried out my nails and made them brittle, unhealthy, and even weak :/! I will go back to her but I will be adamant about one base coat, two color coats, and one top coat next time. read more

I loved this place! It's affordable, simple but nice, and very clean. I went on a Thursday evening after a particularly tough week. I needed some down time just to myself, called that afternoon and got an appointment for 630 that night. I drove there straight from work and had no problem finding parking -- definitely a benefit of being in Del Ray over Old Towne! I wish I remembered my technicians name. She was so nice and helpful. She was learning English and was a bit shy with talking at first, but since I'm quite the talker, she opened up. I was having such a hard time picking a color, but she was patient with me and ended up helping me pick one for my toes, a bright, girly fushia that I never would have chosen myself but ended up looking great. (She got a kick out of the fact that it was a Hello Kitty color by OPI :) ) She took her time with my pedicure and made sure my water was just right. And then we moved on to the shellac manicure. She was a perfectionist! I really appreciated the time she took to make sure my nails were shaped the way I wanted and the polish didn't get too thick or bubbly like it can with shellac or gel manicures. She was super friendly and great to talk to. My manicure lasted about 12 days, exactly like it's supposed to, and looked nice until the day before I removed the polish. This is a follow up review. I was dining at a restaurant right next to this place and the owner saw me passing by. Assuming that she did review my previous review provided on Yelp, she came out and talked to me. She did apologize and invited me again so I did take up on the offer and stopped after work today. She apologized again and provided a very nice service. I'm happy with my nails today and I did let her know that i would be back again. I used to love TM Nails.. that is until Today! I went in for my regular pedicure and eyebrow waxing the other day and when it came time to pay, and the girl ringing me up - who I should mention was new and clearly did not know what she was doing - tried to use my credit card while calling the gentlemen over who runs the shop to assist her. He then informs me after fiddling with the machine that my card was declined, so I said that is not possible please try it again. He then went over and ran the card again without any problems, I also logged into my bank app to check my card and I saw that there were 2 pending charges from TM Nails. I immediately told the guy this and he told me 1 charge would fall off because it was declined on their end. I said okay, but if this clears I am coming back and expect a refund... Well guess what 2 days later BOTH charges cleared and were deducted out of my bank account. So I went back in this evening (5/31) to ask for a refund and the same guy told me he would not refund me! He pulled out his receipts from the till that day and said there is only 1 charge showing on his end and that this "charge" would fall off maybe in a week! - That is not true as it was no longer pending but charged and deducted. - I showed him the app for proof and he refused to acknowledge it!! I was dumbstruck that he was so blatantly ignoring my complaint especially since myself and my friends have been loyal customers here for over 3 years!!! Needless to say I told him I was taking my business elsewhere if this is how they choose to treat loyal customers!! I called my bank as soon as I walked out and sure enough they confirmed that 2 charges were deducted from my account from TM Nails and could even tell me that one transaction was run via chip and the other was run by swiping the card! Absolutely ridiculous!! They have lost a good customer as I will NOT be returning to this establishment and I recommend anyone who reads this to reconsider as well!! read more

I'm so disappointed in this place. Usually I have an okay experience here but I won't be going back to TM nails again. I'm getting my nails redone after two weeks with a new nail tech and he shows me where my toenails has been drilled down to barely nothing. I thought it was strange that the lady who was doing my toe nails was using a drill but brushed it off. I will never do that again. I only wish I had come across this nail salon earlier in my quest to find a great salon in Alexandria. While I live in Old Town, and there are a couple spas that have since opened that are within walking distance -- I've always found their prices a bit high and the service sub par. What initially attracted me to TM was the fact that they opened at 930am, which was about a half an hour earlier than the rest of the salons in the area. Additionally, the price -- $38 for a mani/pedi was quite good. When I got there things were a little slow to get started- they only had one person working (aside from the guy who I presume was the manager or owner whose sole role seemed to be wandering around and checking on the technicians). However, the shop was clean and the massage chairs were nice. Shortly thereafter Lee arrived and that's when the 5 stars begins. Not only was Lee very friendly, she was exceptionally meticulous, made my fingers and toes look lovely (no chips or errant paint!), and OMG the massage! She gave the best massage. So good that I paid the additional $15 dollars to get a neck/upper back massage while my nails dried. It was well worth it from Lee. I will gladly come back here whenever I find myself in the area going forward. read more

She is a perfectionist who truly cares about your nails. In fact, I think she cares more about your/my nails than I do. The only reason I give TM 3 instead of 5 stars is because of the owner/manager. Especially with me coming in on a Wednesday afternoon with NO waiting customers. They didn't lower my price or give me any compensation for the nail tech re-doing a nail and it STILL be crooked and molded to my finger. Please don't waste your time because even if it's two people you will still get rushed service. I try to be fair and give businesses 3 times to mess up. I've lived in the area for awhile. I've been to this location many times and each time they ask "is this my first time"....strike 1. Another visit I just asked to have nails removed...nothing else. The older lady seemed irritated with my request. She then let me soak my nails in a bowl while she went off to lounge and watch a movie on her iPad with headphones on....so much for customer interaction....strike 2 Another visit I brought a friend with me for pedicures,her and I were the only ones in there. We sat there for about 5 minutes before being attended to. Then two ladies began to work on us. They were almost done when a mother and daughter duo walked in and they stopped everything they were doing to attend to them. We just sat there looking at each other like "WTF just happened". I only get my nails done a few times a year around holiday's or big events so my experience in nail salons isn't very vast, but I thought this place was pretty good. I came on a Sunday and there was a ton of free street parking. I called about 45 minutes ahead but a few people walked in and technicians were available. I asked for a pedicure and a gel manicure which ended up being $58. The basic pedicure came with a leg scrub and hot towel at the end which was nice. I kind of which they used the razor (I have dry feet ok) but I think that might be illegal -- or for the more upgraded pedicure, who knows. I ran my first ever 10 miles before getting my nails done that day so I was kind of wheezing from my sports inducing asthma, and thoroughly appreciated the complimentary bottle of water. Since I was kind of out of it from my post-run wheezing I didn't process until later that my nail technician didn't put a base coat on my toe nails. The gel manicure was good. I liked the way she filed my nails and the coats were thick so my nails stood out. The nails ended up lasting for two weeks until two totally popped off. Kim is absolutely amazing! Pedicure: I have the tendency of getting ingrown nails and she takes care of the cuticles to prevent that. Manicure: I normally get gel. The actual manicure is really good. She does a really great job at prepping the nail and cuticles so the manicure actually looks nice for weeks. The applies each layer well and I haven't had issues with the gel separating from the nail or bubbling up. I tried to go elsewhere and their mani lasted for a week. Her work lasts for 2-3 weeks and it looks really nice even right before I come back to cover the growth. Also, she doesn't damage the nail. Love her work!!! read more

Great nail salon in the neighborhood. Just left after getting a gel manicure... Might be the best gels I've ever had. The lady had great attention to detail-- and I'm a perfectionist (so much so I don't like getting my nails done because I often think I can do a better job myself)-- she covered every bit of my nail, did a nice clean job on my cuticles without overdoing it or causing pain... Very happy overall! Only reason I left out the 5th star is because the massage was next to nothing-- 15 seconds on each hand with barely any pressure, basically just rubbed in the lotion. Not sure if that's the standard for the place unless you pay more... But I've had gels done for the same price with better massage time. But great job on the nails paint job for only $30. Everyone was super friendly and attentive. The pedicure and manicure were super thorough. I was still in and out within an hour or so. It was very efficient and cost effective. I unfortunately didn't get the name of the nice middle aged woman who did my nails but she was incredibly meticulous and nice. She is gentle. The color options were plenty and they are good about matching the regular nail polish w/ gel manicure. A regular pedi w/ gel manicure is $58 but you wont find that on the price list. I called to ask for gel pedi and gel mani and the man said 58. He also gave me tip of parking at sun trust parking lot. He was difficult to understand w heavy accent but he was patient in repeating it multiple times until I could understand. Then when I got there they asked again and I said gel for both but it was a higher price. Turns out it was miscommunication w/ the male manager. He seems brash, and blamed me for the misunderstaning. He can be an ass but I say get past that because the ladies here seem to do a good job all the way around. He actually seems like he's the product of a harsh environment but has the potential to be a nice man, who knows. They give you a complimentary bottle of water. Tubs were clean, utensils were sterile but they to use the same pumice stone and give it a rinse between clients, not sure..... I got 2 coats of gel on the nails and headed to the beach this week, so I'll test the one yelper's comments about heavy coats of polish coming off prematurely. Everyone seems to have a specific thing they want from a pedicure. For some its a really great massage, for others its a to have their calluses removed - for me, I love someone who spends a lot of detailed time on the nails themselves; cleaning the cuticles, filling them just right, clipping the dead skin with those tiny little scissors. And thats why I see Mary at TM nails. She spends so much time on those details and I absolutely love it! Her whole pedicure is great, to be sure, but the time she spends getting my toes looking good again after I constantly mistreat them in my day to day life is the best. The nail salon itself is clean and the staff is consistent and all very pleasant. Best neighborhood nail place in Del Ray! I have tried many different salons in the Del Ray-Old Town area, and am most pleased with TM Nail Salon. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and my gel manicures are always top of the line. The staff goes above and beyond to make you feel relaxed and at home (I.e. Always providing chilled bottled water, remembering details about regular customers, having genuine conversations). I keep short nails because I play a musical instrument, and my technician is always understanding and accommodating. The salon itself is always clean, smells nice, and does not get relatively crowded. Cash tips are preferred, and walk-in appointments are always welcomed. I have been coming to this salon exclusively for a year now, and will continue to support this local business while I live in the area! read more
