I happened upon Aurora Nail Spa when I was in a pinch. I needed a single nail repair and one of my colleagues referred me to this location since it's right across the street from our office. At first, I was a little skeptical. When I first entered the location and explained what I needed, a lot of conversation was had between the nail techs that I could not understand. I assume they were discussing my request, what needed to be done, and how much it will cost. For some reason, I tend to take issue when I am being discussed and I cannot understand what is being said. That might just be one of my personal hang ups. I was directed to sit at a nail station with Cindy. She proceeded to take a picture of my nails to ensure the repair would be a perfect duplication. By the time she finished, I was more than pleased with the time she took to fix my nail. I will be returning when it's time for me to redo all of my nails. I was a new client at this salon and initially had a great impression. The salon was extremely clean, and they offered thoughtful amenities like fruit, cheese, and beverages. Unfortunately, within two days of my appointment, three of my nails were already lifting, bubbling, and chipping. I returned to the salon and showed them the damage. While they did fix the nails, what was most disappointing was the complete lack of accountability. Instead of acknowledging the issue or simply saying, "I'm sorry this happened. Let me fix it," I was immediately told that my nails were too long, that I must use my hands a lot, and that builder gel typically doesn't work well for long nails. The problem with that explanation is that I have worn my nails long and had builder gel consistently for months without ever experiencing this issue. The only thing that changed was the salon. Mistakes happen, but how a business responds to them matters. The immediate decision to blame the customer rather than take ownership of the quality of the service was extremely disappointing. I tried to address this privately with management before leaving a public review, but unfortunately, their handling of my concerns became part of the problem. I came in for a classic pedicure, and although the salon was not busy, my service felt rushed, inattentive, and lacking in care. While sitting there, I watched other customers around me receive pedicures that appeared noticeably more attentive and relaxing. I was the only Black woman receiving a service in that area at the time, while the customers around me were white. I want to be very clear: I am not claiming to know the technician's intentions or accusing anyone of intentionally discriminating against me. I am describing what I personally experienced and observed. The difference in treatment was noticeable enough that I left uncomfortable and felt management needed to know. There was also an inappropriate interaction regarding my body hair. After product had already been applied to my legs, the technician lifted my leg, looked at it, asked whether I shaved, and suggested that I should wax instead. I found this unnecessary and embarrassing. I contacted management privately and explained my concerns. After approximately two days reviewing security footage, management responded that the cameras showed my service lasted from 4:50 PM to 5:19 PM--29 minutes--and because they allocate 30 minutes for a classic pedicure, they concluded that the technician "did not rush." That completely missed the point. I never complained that my pedicure lasted 10 or 15 minutes. "Rushed" describes the quality and manner of the service, not simply the number of minutes I occupied the chair. A 29-minute service can still feel hurried, inattentive, and very different from the service being provided to customers around you. What made their response even more contradictory was that management simultaneously acknowledged that the technician was new, was still adjusting to their salon's level of service, and that the way she communicated with me was "not professional." They said they spoke with their staff and noted my account so that this technician would not service me again. When addressing my concern about the difference in treatment I observed, management responded that they "absolutely do not discriminate" because it is against their policy. Having a nondiscrimination policy is expected, but simply stating that policy does not address a customer's concern about a difference in how she was treated. I responded and explicitly told management that I was NOT seeking a refund, discount, complimentary service, or compensation of any kind. My concern was bigger than getting something for myself. I did not want the next Black woman--or any other person of color--to walk into this salon and leave wondering why the people around her seemed to receive a level of care that she did not. After another three days, management responded asking, "What can we do for you?" I had already answered that. I wanted my experience to be genuinely heard and considered so that another customer would not have the same experience. Nothing more. Businesses will occasionally have unhappy customers. What matters is how management responds when someone respectfully brings a concern to their attention. I gave this salon an opportunity to address the situation privately before saying anything publicly. Unfortunately, after this experience and the way my concerns were handled afterward, I will not be returning. read more

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE VERY BAD SERVICE!!!! I am deeply disappointed with my experience at this salon and feel compelled to share it so others are aware. On Saturday, November 8th at 5:40 PM, I visited for a nail service costing $110. From the very beginning, I felt rushed and dismissed. When I politely requested a matte finish on my nails, the technician refused, saying, "No, the color it is, is better." This was unprofessional and dismissive of my preferences as a paying customer. The service itself felt hurried and careless. By the following morning, my nails were already chipped--clearly reflecting poor workmanship. I returned expecting a simple correction at no extra cost, as the issue was the result of their inadequate service. Instead, I was charged an additional $55. Beyond the service quality, the behavior of the staff was unacceptable. The technician rolled her eyes repeatedly, handled my hands aggressively, and made me feel uncomfortable. When I reported this to the store manager, she raised her voice and told me, "Then go somewhere else!" This hostility toward a returning customer is entirely unprofessional. I spent additional time returning to the salon only to be met with rudeness and an unjustified charge. I am requesting a full refund of the $165 I was charged ($110 for the first visit, $55 for the second). I hope this review prompts the salon to improve both their service quality and their treatment of customers. I have been consistently loyal for over a year. I usually go to the same nail tech, but they keep quitting. I have been through 2 who have left. I went in a few data ago and discovered that my regular person was no longer there so I went to a new person. As a matter of fact pretty much of the nail techs were new. I went in for removal of my dip manicure and then new polish. The new person had no clue what she was doing and was damaging my nails as she attempted to take off my polish. When her attempts to use her fingernails and nail clippers to remove my polish didn't work, she used a drill. She cut my cuticles twice while doing this, causing them to bleed. At that point, I had to ask for a new person. The new person was more skilled, however 3 days after my appointment, my nail is chipped. This has never happened before. If they could retain their quality nail techs then this would be better. The management seemed unapologetic about my bleeding cuticles and still charged me the same price. I take pride in my nails, but now I am walking around with scabs on my cuticles and a chipped fingernail. read more

Sinve ny normal nail technician was out of the country, I decided to try this new plave out. I was hoping the nail spa would be good, but unfortunately, for the price, this place is not worth it. I got the nail dip done, and after 6 days, the polish on some of my fingers was already chipping away. Only 10 days later and now one finger has less than half the polish on it. Overall felt like a rush job and a poor experience. For starters, I received none of the extras given to other customers, like water, tea or fruit. I requested a simple cut and shape, sharing with the technician that I like my nails low and round. They proceeded cut my nails too low to shape, and then give them a once over with the large nail file. From there they treated my cuticles (which, granted, was decent work) and then went to massage my hands with no further attempt to round or shape my nails as requested. I had to ask her again to at least attempt to shape my nails and to try and use a smaller, thinner file. She did, and the end result was a jagged, uneven mess. I am giving 2 instead of 1 because to cuticle work of decent, but overall, this was a rush job that turned out like nothing I requested. I don't mind spending money on places where I feel welcome, but unfortunately, I did not and I will not be returning. I understand the four and five star reviews mostly because of the free wine, however, I regard service much higher and this place,especially Uka, did not meet my bar. I paid $68 for gel polish that was patchy and I just did not feel welcomed. Cons: - Young lady working check-in desk seemed way out in space. - My pedicure chair seat was dirty w/ what looked like the last client's cut cuticle, exfoliated skin, nail clippings, etc.; as if all were in a towel and the towel fell open onto the seat, and the seat never cleaned. - The nail tech's "communication method" was not good; each time I took a sip of water, she stopped working and looked at me like "why are you moving?" but she never said a word. And when she wanted my foot or leg moved, instead of doing it herself or prompting me to help by lightly tapping my heel, etc. (as is common practice), she stopped working and looked at me, as if Im psychic; able to know what she thinking. - Steps of the gel pedi were out of order. - She went too hard w/ the exfoliant on my legs; ground the scrub into my skin on my shins; kind of ignored the backs of my legs, and barely spent time on my feet; was not pleasant or effective. - Instead of following exfoliation w/ lotion, the tech went straight into polishing; my legs began to burn and itch being exposed to the air; I actually started to twitch. - While polishing, the tech drops a couple things from her cart onto the floor. She proceeds to pick up the tool and other thing from off the floor, place them back on the tool tray and cart w/ the clean tools and supplies, and goes back to working on me; no change of gloves. *This is a deal-breaker; game over.* read more

The pedicure chairs were extremely comfortable (with better than usual massage options!), and Tiam, my nail tech, was phenomenal. She did a wonderful job with my nails and was exceptionally kind. I appreciated how thorough she was and she (along with other staff) frequently checked in to make sure that I was comfortable and happy with the experience. I really didn't want to leave bad review. But That night i got my pedi done, i got some stinging pain and woke up the next morning noticed the scratches on my foot. But service wasn't what i expected. Got pedicure,they scrubbed my foot on the side too hard and left scratches. Nails cut uneven, polish was horrible and i asked them to do it again. But still was not good enough. And today after 3 days later polish is started to chipping. Everytime when i got my pedi done, they usually lasts for 2 months without chipping.
