I am writing to express my disappointment with my recent visit. My mother and I came in for a pedicure, a gel manicure, and a full set. While the salon was busy, the biggest issue was not the wait but the lack of customer service. Throughout both of our appointments, the nail technicians repeatedly dismissed our requests and made decisions for us instead of listening to what we wanted. I was originally interested in a cat-eye design and was willing to be flexible with the color, but the technician immediately shut down the idea and decided on a completely different design without giving me the opportunity to choose another option. Similarly, my mother requested specific details for her nail design, but her technician repeatedly told her "no" and substituted her own ideas instead. We understand that salons can get busy, but being rushed is not an excuse to ignore customers' preferences. It felt as though the technicians were more focused on getting through appointments quickly than providing quality service. As paying customers, we should not have to argue to have our requests heard. What made this experience so disappointing is that we have enjoyed coming to your salon in the past. Unfortunately, the poor customer service, lack of communication, and disregard for our preferences have left us with little desire to return. Look at these chiclets white nails are mine, pink is the picture i showed. I asked for extremely thin nails. That I know they may break, but to please make them as thin as possible. Gel x was recommended by the salon so I went with that- but now I'm thinking that was part of the problem. I just don't know what to say. They are THICK- my pointer finger on my dominant hand being the worst of them all which is of course the finger i use most. It seemed like the nails she used were also too big. There was a line of 5 people waiting to be helped bc of some issue. Not sure if that requires two people to figure out but definitely didn't do anything to keep things moving or folks updated. Not offering something that I'm looking for is fine but doesn't warrant an unnecessary condescending tone and attitude while twirling your hair and glaring at me after making me wait in line for a while "because the system is down". Knowing your list of services has nothing to do with your system and clearly demonstrates a lack of customer service training and problem solving skills. All I did was wait patiently and ask politely if you offer what I ask for. Answering the question takes 30 seconds and a baseline level of decency. Salon is typical modern nail salon vibe so nothing special there. Had an overall great experience here. I was able to make a last minute appointment and unlike some other salons in the area, it was a true reservation. They were quick but quality, and friendly. My normal nail girl quit her place last week and I scrambled to get my nails done for a vacation. One of my colleagues recommended Amy at Mint, but to my surprise, she was also no longer there. I did not get a call for confirmation or a call as a FYI that she was not there anymore. However, low and behold, I met Ann. I am always nervous with a person I have never worked with before. Ann had 4 years of experience under her belt. I did a regular pedi and a gel mani. I showed a picture of a pastel marble design that I wanted and she definitely executed what I wanted. She also took the time to match the colors and reassured that even if I felt it was too bright, it would still fade out nicely with the liquid they use for a marble effect. I personally would give Ann a 5 star. I am deducting Mint to 4 stars because of their receptionist. A typical high school or college student with very poor etiquette. I mean, who wears sweats to work? Granted, I'm not the boss so I'll let it be. She could speak louder and be more clear when she talks to people. I have been coming to Mint on and off for years since I have friends in the area. It really can be a hit-or-miss experience so I do recommend you only go if you have a nail tech you know is good. Sometimes they offer you a drink, sometimes the nail tech is rude/dismissive, and sometimes your nail tech will be in a rush so it won't be a great service. The salon is clean and aesthetically appealing, but will be cramped if you need somewhere to put your purse/bag (especially if you're coming after work). I came in with gel already on my nails and wanting to redeem my 30% off coupon. Make sure you tell the receptionist that you intend to use the coupon for your appt when you book, otherwise they won't let you do it. It's a strange policy and not really mentioned upfront - I found out because the last time I tried to use it, they refused. The previous nail tech and receptionist were very rude about it too during that incident. For this appt, I already had gel on my nails so the tech did a very quick soak removal and then grinded away the rest. I could tell the whole time that she wanted to get through this as quick as possible so some nails were unevenly ground down and my nail edges were file into a sharp square shape. The color I chose was clearly a magenta but she only did two coats so it looks light red. When I asked her to keep adding coats until it was dark magenta, she said "no you can't do that unless you pay more and then I won't redeem the coupon." I didn't really understand that because this is a nail salon selling a nail service with nail polish so why wouldn't you do more coats if that's what's needed to achieve the right color? At the end, she didn't clean up the nail polish that was in the skin around my nails and she put too much of the cuticle oil on without pressing it in so I had to wash my hands. Now that I used my coupon, I'm unlikely to come back. The prices are decent but with some research I'm sure you could find other places in the DC/VA area. read more

Today they called she was also running behind again 30 minutes. get here and 30 minutes have passed by and I still have not been seen. The person doing the appointment needs to do better at scheduling. I used to go to the Mint Nail Lounge in Fairfax but had not tried this location. Pretty large selection of polish but light on glitter colors in regular polish. Lots of gel options. Place was packed around 4:45pm on a Saturday. They offered me water coffee or tea. I could also get a glass of wine. They line the bowls with plastic. Mary took care of me. It's a mile from where i work and located across the street from the mall and the 66 Freeway. Vicky performed my pedicure and manicure, I was very pleased with the pedicure (see photo) and i love my nails! I haven't said that in a while. Honestly, not sure why this place has high reviews. I received a gel-x manicure - the technician was in a rush and didn't use the right technique, even started drilling my natural nail bed until I stopped her. She didn't appropriately prep the nail extensions and was using the wrong shape until I corrected her, and was very rude each time I asked for something. Within a week two nails have come off. This has never happened to me when I've received gel x manicures elsewhere. Also it's pretty small and cramped. Not exactly a luxury experience for $70. I definitely don't recommend! read more

Quality of the nail services could be much better. Simple things like not wiping off the dust from my hands after using the drill to file my nails is something that they just won't do. They don't treat the nail or make sure to wipe any excess product from the cuticle, etc. It's just sloppy and the attitude from nail techs is negative. They act like they don't want to be there or don't want to be talked to. Which is strange because I'm paying you and tipping for lackluster service. If you ask for something simple (one solid color no design) they can do that and it will turn out decent. But if you want ANYTHING beyond that, they aren't capable. I can paint my own nails. I'm here paying because they offer a service that I can't do myself but it turns out that their services aren't that great. I hate that I'm going to have to learn how to do things myself because I'm happy to pay for a nail service but these nail salons (it's not just Mint) have lost their nail care and design skills, as well as their ability to maintain customer service. There are a couple of different ladies that work the front desk only and they're nice (but they aren't the ones who do my nails). I would give less than three stars but because my gel (solid color, no design) has lasted/been decent, I added a star. But recently I asked for a design on my nails (not a solid color) and it turned out terribly. I showed a pictured, I asked if it was possible for the nail tech, and I was told it was fine; no problem. I now have to find someone to fix it. The regular pedicure was fine, I didn't feel like it was anything special but my son got an extended pedi while my daughter and I got full sets and he loved it. This place has become so inconsistent, I have whip lash. The staff that was there in the spring when they first opened seemed to have turned over and I often times feel like the quality has fallen off. After my initial experience I went in twice more for some funky SNS nail designs and while they did an amazing job, I had 2-3 nails break within 2-3 days. Once I went back to fix it but another time I couldn't due to my work travel schedule. Even then, I went back because I liked the salon. I have come for a few pedicures and they do a decent job but love to guilt me into doing the more expensive pedicure. I got beautiful nails done in early November but had to give the lady a ton of direction as all my nails were misshaped and I think if I didn't say anything, she wouldn't have corrected it. This last time around I came in for tips and SNS and something felt off. The nail tech didn't soak one of my old tips fully off and when she went to glue on a new tip, it wouldn't work. She ended up getting so much glue on my nail, inside of my nail, and fingers, that excess dipping powder is now cemented to the inside of my nail. When I called out a weird discoloration on my nail, worried it could be a bruise or infection, she brushed me off. I can't blame anything on the salon but on the off chance my nail is infected, their sanitizing standards need to be worked on so other customers don't get some funky stuff. She did a beautiful shape but the attention to detail just wasn't there and she didn't even do cuticle oil at the end and the top coat on my nails has "cracked" or appears cracked. I feel conflicted because I know they can do better. read more

I REALLY like this place. It's so modern and clean feeling and the technicians are really talented and professional. I have never felt like they are being rude to me and it's right next to my work. All the ladies at my job all come here and I stopped going to the salon by my house because the ladies at MINT do an exponentially better job then the one close to my house. Truly, truly these women are freaking professionals and the young woman at the front desk is genuine and sweet. The one thing I would say (and I hope the owner reads this because it seems minute, but when you are pouring $100+ every couple of weeks and $1000s of dollars a year into a place, those little details really count to keep up customer retention) is that the last two times I've been here, the polish has not gone all the way up to the cuticle. I looked at other photos and it looks like in the past the paint jobs have been really good all the way up to the cuticle. In my own experience, it also has. But the last two times it hasn't. Within a week it looks like I already need to get another manicure. I don't know if they are trying to drive more business (not that they need to because this place is packed all the time) or what, but when I walked out last time, I honestly considered switching to the Russian salon in Clarendon, because I feel a little jipped. I can't be spending $100+ every week and I want my manicures to look fresh for AT LEAST the first week If the owner is reading this, please tell the technicians to make sure that they are painting as close to the cuticle as possible, I really don't want to switch salons, I love MINT so much! read more

Heard such great things about this place, so I decided to make the trek and check it out. Nestled in a very cute shopping center, this nail spot is a great little spot. Absolutely clean, organized, and following COVID protocols. My tech did struggle with the original design I wanted, as I brought a picture of a thin black-tipped French manicure, but it seemed the supplies or the tech were insufficient. I opted for a full acrylic set, and was advised against going too long, but ended up quite a bit shorter than I wanted. In the end, I do wish that I could have gotten the design I originally intended and the length I set out for, but the color I received lasted more than two weeks, the shape was perfect, and the nail care left me satisfied. I also love that you can pay and top using venmo, so no need to stop for cash beforehand (I always forget!). read more

Now the quality of the gel manicure, I am still searching for a place in northern Virginia that does a good gel manicure that last at least two weeks. Unfortunately, the gel manicure that I had done a week has chipped in the edges of my nails. I clean with gloves and provide enough care for my nails and cuticles. Great nail salon! Everyone at the salon does fantastic work. I have been there multiple times to multiple different nail artist and they all do a great job with gel, manicure dip, manicure, and acrylics, and pedicures. The receptionist is very nice and is helpful to find you colors, and help you schedule an appointment. The salon is also very clean and maintained well, they give you drinks, which is a nice treat! I stumbled upon this gem while searching for a nail salon to do my birthday nails when my usual salon cancelled on me last night. Thankfully, I was able to make a last minute appointment at Mint and so happy I did. The ladies here were so welcoming and very professional. The interior was very clean and masks are required upon entry. If you happened not to have one, they'll provide you a complimentary one and be prepared to wash your hands before being serviced. Prior to coming I did a little research but wasn't sure who was the best person to do my nails during my visit. I highly recommend you all to book Holly for your nails especially if you're planning on doing designs. She was so detailed oriented and patient throughout my entire experience. I presented her a nail inspiration and she did her very best to make my nails look as close to it as possible. The set was pricey but worth it! For my pedicure, you have to get Mikey (I believe that's how you spell her name). She cleaned my feet so well and she took her time as well. This is my local nail spot when I don't have time to travel to downtown DC for my usual place (Capital Waxing Salon). Mint is slightly more expensive than other nail salons in Ballston, but all the extras are worth the higher prices. The staff is always courteous. They've been keeping excellent COVID measures, such as requiring everyone to wash their hands as soon as they arrive. I like that they offer Zoya polish (less toxic) in addition to OPI and all the usual salon polishes. Probably because of all of the above, the salon is always busy. Sometimes, it gets too crowded for my comfort level, hence the 4 stars instead of 5. read more

The receptionist was terrible. I got an SNS manicure and 3 days after they were done one of them just randomly broke and now after a week another has broken because the lady who did them put a tip on on too close to the edge of my nail instead of near my cuticle. Came here on a last minute whim to get my overgrown acrylics removed. I got a pedicure with a full set removal +SNS+Gel French tip. Needless to say I got the best French manicure to date from Cindy (And I have tried at least 4 places locally on the hunt for a nail tech with her kind of technique). I'm giving this salon a 3 because my nail tech was nice and my pedicure came out pretty decent and she did a great job on my eyebrows. My dissatisfaction comes from me asking for ACRYLIC nails. I should have known this wasn't going to work out when she kept trying to talk me into SNS (Dip Powder). I asked for square nails with rounded edges. I was looking for a place to get a pedicure after work and they had later hours, which was a bonus (close at 8pm). And it turns out they were offering grand opening specials (free regular mani with a regular pedi), so another bonus. I scheduled an appointment for that evening. They are located in the same block as the new, urban Target in Ballston (across Glebe from the mall) and though there was a parking garage, they don't validate so I opted to park on the street. Some spots are residential only at specific times and others are metered (ParkMobile), so pay attention to signs. I saw Jessica, who was very efficient. I was in and out for both services in an hour. She had quite the task before her because my feet were a mess. She did a great job cutting my nails and filing them. She offered to use a razor on my feet (glad she asked first) and I declined. As it turns out, my feet are still a tad rough, but for the most part they look good. The mani was pretty basic and was enough for my needs. The polish didn't have bubbles, which sounds like a given, but some nail techs just don't know. The place is small, but clean, bright and brand new. And Ashley at the front desk is pleasant. Just note, they do not accept a card for tips...it's cash or venmo directly to your tech. I would return and recommend it to others. read more
