When I was trying to find a place for a bunch of my old coworkers and I to meet up, I knew it needed to be somewhere in the middle - and tasty! YELP to the rescue! I mapped everyone out, found the reasonable middle, and then did a map search for the area, and what do you know? Tipico's popped up as a Yelp favorite! No wonder it is. It is the best kind of hole-in-the-wall dive, with a tiny parking lot (good luck getting a spot!) in an area of town you'd otherwise have no idea where to stop. The inside is rather small, just go in and grab a table and start flipping through the menu. A waiter/waitress will come by to get your drink order and then let you keep perusing the menu. We snacked on chips (tasty) and my coworkers had salsa (they all said it was hot!) and then we ordered. I got the #17 sour cream enchiladas, and while those were tasty (and HUGE portions for the price) I have to repeat another reviewer who said the refried beans were AMAZING. I have no idea what magical blend of spices they have going on, but they were delicioso! The rice is alright, pretty standard tex-mex rice. I did like their sour cream sauce, and the didn't skimp on the chicken or the cheese on the inside which left me with a pair of huge, yummy enchiladas to devour. I made it through one, even though I wanted to keep going. The refried beans? They didn't stand a chance. I would have licked the plate if I wasn't around professional peers! At the end of the meal we were all stuffed and most of us had to-go boxes, which speaks to the portion sizes. Take note of your table number and head to the register, they'll pull your ticket and have you pay out based on what you ordered. Everyone was friendly here, the food was good, and it was a great location for what we needed! Had the rice been more awesome (or if their queso wasn't from a squeeze tube) I'd definitely give them 5 stars! read more

I'm always happy when I find a good texmex place. I will spare you what others have said already. I'll just say this place is good! Homemade chips with two types of salsas. The warm version is my preference. Had the tacos al carbon with steak meat in corn tortillas. Everything was made from scratch. Greatly appreciate the tortillas being homemade. The rice and beans are an afterthought but were still decent enough. The meat was hot and seasoned. Served with a small side of lettuce and diced tomatoes. Pic of my plate in the Photos section. Service is slow but they are pleasant. Parking is definitely a mess if you go during feeding time. Opt for an off time to be able to enjoy your meal. read more

Tipico's - Mexican Near Me - Dallas, Texas

The breakfast tacos were good, but I won't be back. I stepped in to get my to-go order and there were SOOO many people in here despite the fact that we are in the middle of a pandemic. There was no social distancing and almost every table was full. A lot of the guests were coughing, all I could think about was how covid was definitely in the air. I grabbed my food and bolted home to wash my clothes and shower. Those tacos aren't worth potentially dying for ‍ read more

While waiting for a table at my favorite Mexican place in DFW and for tortillas and enchiladas ANYWHERE (Gonzalez Mexican Restaurant in Oak Cliff), a nice lady told me about Tipico's which she said 'was even better'. We had to try it out to see if such a brash statement was true. So I dragged the family there this morning and in true smack-down fashion ordered my two mexican food staples for direct comparison: cheese enchiladas (with beans and rice) and a beef fajita taco. Here's how the comparison went: (Plus points means Tipico's wins in that category, Minus points means Gonzalez remains the leader in that category.) Chips & Salsa - mediocre. But they're pretty mediocre at Gonzales too. TIE Tortillas - thin and heavily toasted. I much prefer the soft, thick variety at Gonzalez. -1 Enchiladas - very runny, the sauce may have been canned, very thin corn tortilla inside -1 Refried beans - definitely made with bacon grease, which is how I like them and how I make them at home. These are just as good as homemade and better than Gonzales' +1 Rice - pretty average -1 Beef fajita meat - a step down from Uncle Julio's / Pappasito's /Los Cucos but above everywhere else. Unfortunately for Tipico's, that's my assessment of Gonzalez fajita meat as well. TIE Service - very slow and somewhat confused. -1 Price - each dish is about 1-2 dollars cheaper than Gonzalez on average. +1 Total score (summing up): -2 So, Tipico's isn't going to unseat Gonzalez - but it's a good restaurant in its own right. I'd focus on fajitas, tacos & beans and skip the enchiladas next time. We might come here once in awhile to change things up or when I want to have perfect refried beans without making them myself. read more

Insiders tip/ first timers tip: Seat yourself and a waiter will come over. And when you're done eating, take your table # to the front to check out. I am uploading new photos of the menu because it looks like the pricing has gone up by a few dollars on a few things. When you're seated they bring you free chips and 2 types of salsa. I ordered (#50) - a chicken (pollo) quesadilla. It came with a side of rice, beans, and a small scoop of guacamole. The guacamole was so good (probably because it had a bit of salt), that I ordered a large portion to-go. The large guacamole was literally 2 scoops - so buyer beware, but it was good so I didn't mind. It was super fresh considering some of the skin of the guacamole was mixed into my large order of guacamole. Towards the end, the waitress didn't come as often, which would have expedited my checkout experience; however, it seems like they have a lot of locals, so they probably expect everyone to know how it works. read more

As much as I love coming here and love their food, their services OK sometimes but there's been several times in this year of 2023 a young little girl with curly hair that checks you out at the counter. You have to be careful with your ticket because she will double the amount on your plates or on a side item and will overcharge you and she's done it to me twice and I do not understand why, is the owner not catching onto this or he's in cahoots with her it's just not right you come to a restaurant that you like and you've been coming here for over 25 years because you knew the woman the owner and then it changes all the sudden to overcharging people on their card without people realizing you have to ask for your receipt all the time. Make sure you are not being overcharged, what is right is right and what is wrong is wrong sooner or later it'll catch up to them read more

This is so good. The rice has jasmine taste to it. It tastes authentic Mexican food. And the refried beans are good. And chicken enchiladas are good as well. I've had better ones, this one is great for a first time. The place had a cozy atmosphere. read more

Tipico's - There are two chicken enchiladas smothered in sour cream and cheese and sides of rice and beans. - Mexican Near Me - Dallas, Texas

Their chicken enchiladas are so yummy, definitely cold day comfort food. I go a bit off menu and order mine with cream sauce AND green sauce. Miss piggy, lol. Also, it comes with beans and rice, but, although their rice is really good, I ditch it in favor of extra beans, so I have some to take home with the extra enchilada I order. read more

Pros. Looks authentic in decor Great prices Cons. Tiny potion of guac compared to other potions The tacos are not authentic - based on my years in Arizona and California by the border this was more Tex Mex than pure Mexican Carnitas were fried. They are usually stewed and moist and lighter in taste. Minor but they had no Mango Jaritos which is usually quite popular. read more

Honestly, I don't know why we don't eat here more often; for shame! I've ordered the bisteak a la mexicana and the guisado pork with verde sauce. Both come with rich, gut-buster refried beans, fluffy mexican rice, and a choice of homemade flour or corn tortillas. I usually get a mix of both tortillas since I can never choose. Both dishes have been stupid good and although the bisteak was a little spicy, it was worth the burn. The mole sauce with shredded chicken is okay, the sauce has good depth of flavor but I don't dig the cinnamon or other warm spice they add in it. The staff is very friendly and quick, no matter if the house is packed or barely buzzing. read more

The nopal guisado was the highlight of the night. It was so delicious as well as the beans. The rice was okay and the carnitas were a tad salty. The ambiance and service though were fantastic. Love the chicharron tacos!! They are so good their other breakfast tacos are great too. Definitely a must stop.

Been coming here for 15 years. Hands down some of the best authentic Mexican food. The Guisada de res is my favorite! Food is consistent quality, large portions, prices beyond fair! May not be super fancy inside or out but it's for sure a winner in my book. read more

Lengua very good. Kinda like a stew. So fresh. Guisado de res con frijoles - beef stew with beans also very good. Guisado de Puerto - pork stew with green sauce just OK. Maybe the red sauce would be better. Flour tortilla was very good much better than corn tortilla. Chip and 2 different types of salsa. One of those was very unique. Spiciness was perfect. read more

Tipico's - Both were very good but the one on the right is unique. You can't find it at any other place. - Mexican Near Me - Dallas, Texas

Tipico's is my idea of homestyle Mexican food. Not Texmex, not gourmet. Just good ol' homestyle what your abuelita whipped up to eat. The Good - I've never had a bad meal there. My go to meals are the guiso de res (Pro Tip: It also happens to be the Wednesday special), bean and cheese tostadas, or the menudo (although I'm more a fan of the broth than the meat). - The tortillas are pretty much the best I've had. Definitely in my top 3 of anywhere. - The price is definitely right. You'll pay more for steak or seafood plates but a normal meal will run you $6-10. The Blah - It gets a little crowded and noisy, especially during the lunch hour. It's understandable why: it's a smaller place that serves great grub. - Parking can be a mess. During busier times, there is a free valet which is great just for the sake of not dealing with parking yourself. (Tips definitely appreciated!) Days without valet can be a hassle. Small parking lot and spaces. Neighboring lots don't necessarily seem welcoming what with all the towing warnings. 9.5/10 - Now to sleep off this food coma. read more

The guisado de res is a must try at this authentic Mexican dining establishment, and in my opinion it is the best in the world. The interior design is stylish and adds an artistic flare to the restaurant. This restaurant has great service and the recipes are always delicious. After trying nearly every plate on the menu, I have never been disappointed. The chef's taste is impeccable and makes me appreciate how much love and time goes into preparing each dish. My personal favorite is the mole de pollo plate. The tacos al carbon are also a must have, and it is all good with a side of rice and beans. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for the best Mexican restaurant within 1000+ miles of DFW. read more

Outstanding Mexican food! Great Monday thru Friday lunch specials for $6.25 and very good service!

Five stars every time! Food is very authentic with great seasonings. I do mostly go with my husband so he can help me order. Haha. The menu is in English but sometimes I just don't know what something's are. I tend to get the #20 tacos al carbon...yummy. Also great are the quesadillas (any meat), the specials on the 3rd page and my husband loves the menudo (available everyday). The flour and corn tortillas are fresh and made in house along with the chips and salsa. One of my favorite places! The building maybe getting some remodeling also. read more

This place has gone down hill. Their food portions have gotten smaller, the waitress seemed to not care about their customers, whenever I place an order on door dash it never gets approved, and when I try to call in an order nobody ever picks up. read more

Very good and authentic Mexican Food. This was my second time and I loved it again. Tortilla are made from scratch! Yummy!

Excellent menudo, great prices. Only wished serving bowl was larger. We ordered extra large, but it looked like a regular-sized bowl. Makes me wonder how small the large bowl would be. But still worth it. We will be back! read more

Decided to try this place because it was open on Sunday and had pretty good reviews. Horrible mistake coming here. We ordered queso and got nacho cheese (straight out of the bag like at a gas station). The food had an ok flavor, but was literally swimming in grease. Best chips and salsa in DFW. Best guisada in DFW. Best tortillas in DFW.

I was a bar with some Mexican friends when one mentioned menudo. My anglo ears perked right up, as I am on a quest to find the best menudo in DFW. A couple of the people in the group mentioned Tipicos near the lake so I swung by and tried it out. I figured it would be good as the parking lot was a total cluster. I have found that orderly parking lots are not a good sign, but a chaotic knot of cars parked with no regard to the paint stripes suggests authenticity. I do not know why this is so but the pattern seems to hold. The place was packed on this weekday lunch and the service was fast/friendly. I got a large bowl of some angry-looking menudo. The flavor was good and they definitely weren't holding back on the tripe. A little bit of beef tripe snuck in there with the pork tripe? Hmmmm. I do prefer a chunk or two of pork meat and a heavier dose of hominy, but, hey, what do I know? So you know: you don't necessarily get a check at the table. Let the cashier know your table number (they're all numbered) and she'll ring you up. read more

I only eat in hole in the wall places & generally ask where local ethnic groups eat. This practice has helped me discover the greatest restaurants for Vietnamese, Persian, Greek, etc. Tipico's was suggested for authentic Mexican. I've been here a few times & have never gotten anything I didn't LOVE. Chips, salsa & tortillas are really good! Last week my work bestie (who originally suggested it) & I went there for a late lunch. I casually asked if they had menudo. I really, really wanted some, but I wasn't expecting a "yes" answer. The server said they have it daily. This made my day!! Many of the authentic places only serve this on weekends & it's gone by 10am. Tipico's menudo was delicious. Generous portion, very clean & tender tripe, great price & plenty for leftovers. I'll probably add some heat next time (tomorrow!!) If you love authentic H.I.T.W. places, Tipico's is the place! read more

Yes ok, my review may be a little bias because this is my aunt's restaurant but I have to say... this is one of the BEST tex-mex restaurants you'll find in Dallas. Every single person I've taken there has absolutely LOVED the restaurant. Yes, parking may be a little difficult during lunch hour and Sundays after church but its well worth it to me. If you go, I recommend #34-Carne guisada burritos plate (even though everything is delicious-this is my fav) Oh and the horchata is homemade--nothing like the powder stuff other restaurants make!! read more

Five stars for Mexican food. Dosent matter what time you are coming, this place is always busy. It's not the nicest restaurant in dallas, but the food is really good. One of my all time fav Mexican restaurants ever in Texas! I discovered this place after reading about it as one of the best Mexican restaurants in Texas Monthly. Everything is homemade. The tortillas are the best I ever had. They're definitely not healthy, but when you want to indulge, come try this place! The tortillas here are super tasty and a little crispy on the edges. Perfect texture imo.The only complaint (for me at least) is they really skimp out on the veggies. They practically give just like a tablespoon of lettuce with your dish. They're not playing around here! lol And they'll give you like one small piece of potato with a stew. lol. I get the Guisado de Res (beef stew with "potatoes" but they only give me like one small piece of potato though!). I have also got the Caldo de Pollo, and my mexican friends said that its just like their mother's. The two salsas they give you at the beginning are good as well. I disagree sort of with the service being slow. They do bring out the food pretty quickly, but I always had to wave down the waitresses like crazy to get anything I wanted, like more drinks. The prices here are decent, and they give you about the normal portion of food you get at most Tex-Mex places. I'll miss this place when I move soon! read more

I'm shocked there are no reviews of this place because every time we went for a weekday lunch, the restaurant was packed. Everything I've had here was fantastic: barbacoa tacos, enchiladas, caldo de res, chile rellenos, etc. Service is fast and friendly. read more

I just returned from Tipicos for lunch on cinco de mayo so the memories are fresh. The first and most important thing to say is that the food was delicious! I shared the carnitas and the quisado de res (beef stew) with a friend and both were fantastic. The carnitas were fried and seasoned to big chunks of golden brown meaty goodness and the the beef in the guisado was so flavorful and tender. Both went well with tortillas and refried beans. And their refried beans...wow. Only vast amounts of animal fat can make them taste that silky and good. read more

I had dinner here two nights ago with my family. My mother, a Mexican food fanatic from Washington, DC, and my grandparents who spend most of their time eating at fine dining establishments. We needed a place to grab a quick bite to eat (had to be Mexican of course!) near the airport so that my mom could catch her flight home. This place is amazing! It is so tasty. I ordered barbacoa tacos and a round of beef nachos for the table. Perfect! Everyone else ordered their own dishes. Needless to say, we devoured everything; even the beans and rice, which usually get pushed around the plate until everyone is ready to leave. Five clean plates amongst four people (and a few empty bowls of amazing tortilla chips) later, we left fat and happy. And after tip....FORTY-FOUR DOLLARS! WHAT?! That just is not supposed to happen! I would have gladly paid twice that for the quality of the food and the service. I will be back, and I will bring a crowd! read more

Growing up in a border town I was spoiled by an abundance of awesome Mexican food. Now that I'm in DFW, I'm on a constant quest to find food that rivals the authentic yumminess of my home town cooking. So when I heard the owners of Tipico's are from the same border town as me and are using their grandma's recipes, I knew I had to try it. I ordered the spinach enchiladas and a quesadilla on the side. I heard they make their own tortillas, like any truly good Mexican place does, so I wanted to get a good taste of them. The enchiladas were unlike the spinach enchiladas you normally find at Mexican restaurants, where they are usually just a vegetarian place holder and not something you would order unless you have to. These spinach enchiladas were AMAZING. They had a ton of onion, which I love, and thoroughly cooked spinach just swimming in delicious cheese. They were just the right amount of greasy - I definitely know this is where I'll be nursing my next hangover. The quesadilla showed off the delicious tortilla, and the salsa that accompanied the complimentary bag of chips was tasty, if a little bit mild. The more I think about this place, the more I can't wait to get back and have some more. Did it transport me back to the cooking at home? Not quite, but it got damn close! read more

Stopped in while traveling for work. I came in the middle of the lunch rush. I got the only open table left and was brought the salsas and chips in about 4 seconds flat. Hit the tea and chips hard this day!!! They never stopped bringing me more! I ordered a veggie combo and some other things I had never seen before. Everything was really good!!! Only gripe was the Mole dish I ordered, it was not as deep in flavor as some i've had before. Possibly it's personal taste? Who cares, it's my taste and i'm right!!!! I would have given Tipico's more than 5 restaurants if I could have! This place was absolutely amazing. Hands down the most authentic TexMex food around. I took my husband and our two teenagers (boy and girl) there at 9pm on a Sunday night. You could see that they were getting ready to close, but that didn't affect the level of food or service at all. Food: the food is out of this world good! We ordered 1) chips and quacamole, 2) a child's burrito with ground beef for my daughter, 3) chicken enchiladas for me, 4) chicken soup for my hubby and 5) el carbon burrito for my son as well as two Tecates and two iced teas. Everything was so delicious and fresh. It literally felt like we had barged into an abuela's house and she pulled together what had been stewing on the stove all day. Service: Our waitress was absolutely delightful and kept a smile even as the kids kept asking questions and changing their minds. She also apologized for her English. Her being humble and polite and patient made for a powerful trio as a service giver. I gave her a $12 tip on our meal. Price: This is where I feel guilty. For all that we got, we paid $41. Let me repeat that, only forty-one dollars!!!! Cons: If I had to write one con, it would be that the flour tortillas were a bit too greasy. (Disclosure: to be honest, we ate every one.....but hey, I have to find one thing for improvement, right?!) I wish we had this kind of food back home in Los Angeles!!!!
