Went in looking for something yummy for lunch. Was greeted immediately as I walked in and the menu with suggestions was shared with me. I ordered verde chicken enchiladas and spicy bistec al la Mexicana. It was perfect, the flavors were amazing, very large sized portions. Best authentic Mexican food I have had in a really long time. The beans were fresh and well seasoned. My favorite was the cinnamon tea and cookie. The tea comes sweetened, hot, and delicious. The cookie reminded me of home with its crispy outside and soft inside, vanilla flavor with a hint of cinnamon, perfect with the cinnamon tea. The tamale masa was airy with flavor. Love this little place on Clarendon. We have visited this place three times. Unlikely location. The staff could not be friendlier. Excellent service, and very sweet waitress. Love the chilaquiles & the bistec a la Mexicana. Also want to try the tamales and guiro. My wife ordered the flautist, and they were delicious as well. The complimentary baked goods to start the meal were a nice touch. We will be back often. Wish they were open a little later, as I would order to go to bring home for dinner. I ordered my food at the counter and Sofia explained some of the items and even offered adjustments to the dishes if I'd like. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with salsa verde. They were on point, as well as the rice and beans. The Salsa verde was perfect, spicy enough. I also ordered a lemonade, natural lemonade it was perfect not to sweet just right. The place is clean! Nice airy. I was very comfortable eating there. Sofia brought me a small sopa de fideo while I waited for my food. It was very good, it hit the spot. She kept checking up on me and the other diners with pitcher in hand to see if we needed lemonade refill. I got a chocolate concha and some empanadas to go. They are so cute! My grandma loves tamales so figured I'd try to find her some. Doña Sofía was like heaven sent. Such an extremely sweet and attentive lady. So I ordered two dozens of tamales, rojos y de rajas, said she'd have them ready the next day at 11am and by 10am the next day she texted me that they were ready. They are so well made and extremely delicious. We also bought some conchas that my grandma said "saben cómo las de Mexico" and when it comes to mexican sweet bread, that's like the ultimate compliment.
