My husband went to pick up a quesadilla he'd ordered by phone about an hour ago, but the avocado they put in it was truly awful how can they possibly sell something like that? We are paying for a service; we aren't getting anything for free. On top of that, whenever we ask for something without onion or cilantro, or for the tomato on the side, the person answering the phone (always a woman) says they can't do it because the items come pre-prepared that way. So, what is the point of them being there? If they honestly aren't trying to please the customer... We aren't asking for handouts we pay for everything! Came here for a weekday brunch and ordered a torta. The location is rather small but has plenty of seating available, parking was no problem. They were quick to take my order, which I appreciated. Making the sandwich and fries took a few minutes but it was understandable given the time. As it came to the food, the torta was okay, though it was nothing to rave about. Some of the meats felt a little dated with the milanesa (breaded fried meat) being slightly chewy and greasy. The fries were not good and nearly ruined the whole meal. It appears they don't change their oil and/or reuse old fries as they were both stale and soaked in grease. They tasted awful and made me have a double take on the sandwich. Having paid $18 for the sandwich and fries I expected a little higher quality. It was a good size torta, however, if I were to go back I'd skip out on any fried ingredients. read more

We've been trying to find different places to try outside of the hospital cafeteria and our normal take out places- we saw someone with a bag from here and decided to try it on a whim. I had the pambazo and my husband had the burrito. Usually we order sides of beans and rice, chips, etc. We couldn't find the options on Grubhub and we're in a hurry and I'm glad we didn't add extras. The items are more than enough for one person. For reference, I have pretty normal size hands. The pambazo was ginormous. The burrito was enough to share and the salsa.....perfect. Spicy, but not overwhelming. They were generous with it and I used almost every container, I kept a few to put on breakfast burritos and it did not disappoint. I have been recommending this place to everyone. Their menu is huge and they are so polite. I went a bit late and an employee was getting some mop things together outside of the door, ran to open the door for me and grab my order. While he was in the back I had a moment to look around. It's a clean environment and the pastry case is beyond tempting. If my husband hadn't already paid for the order I definitely would've grabbed some tres leches. The menu offers several options, Tortas, tacos, quesadillas, flautas, etc. We asked the staff for recommendations since it was our first time there, so we ordered a few different items so that we can get a little taste of what's popular, the torta de barbacoa, chicken flautas, quesadilla and tacos de Pastor. The torta was very good, great size as well. The quesadilla was good, served fried which is different, topped with lettuce. The tacos were "ok" would not order again, a bit too bland. The flautas were amazing, super crunchy, great taste, topped with lettuce, creama and avocado. They serve horchata as well, didn't try, and bottled Mexican drinks. So when we pulled up I thought... aint no cars here (yes, I said ain't). It is a bad sign when you don't see any signs of life at a 4 star restaurant around dinner time. We looked at the menu and picked this 19" beef corn mesa thing. It was just O-K. Nothing, I mean nothing special about it! After the first bite, we were like Awe Naw!! This is so bland!! I recently moved to Dallas and had a sudden urge for tortas and some tacos. I ordered 2 "D.F Tortas" and 2 Al Pastor tacos which rang up as $31! (Did NOT match the Yelp Menu prices) with no drinks. Yes the tortas were huge, but they were lacking ingredients as they skimped on the avocado and beans. Bread itself was a little thick and not toasted whatsoever. Becca: Pass by this place on my walk home from the hospital and was super intrigued by how crowded it always seems! After a quick search on Yelp I decided to try it for myself. I got 3 tacos (all for $2 each): Barbacoa, Steak Fajitas, and Chicken. The food came out right away with a side of chopped onions, cilantro, and lime wedges. To be honest, when I first saw my tacos I was a little disappointed. It was incredibly small with unseasoned meat in a double wrapped tortilla. However these little babies came to life with a little salt and hot sauce. The chicken and steak were sort of forgettable but the barbacoa was juicy and delicious. The hot sauce was my favorite--definitely packed a punch, so go easy on it if you're not a spice lover like me. I was surprisingly decently full at the end of the meal. Definitely a "no frills" street taco but delicious nonetheless at a respectable price of $2 a taco. My biggest regret was paying $2.60 for a small Diet Coke which seemed ridiculous. As I mentioned before, this place is booming at lunch time. There is a small seating area with booths and 2 person tables. Overall the ambience was very casual. It definitely feels authentic which I appreciate. This is a little stand alone restaurant off of Maple that you could easily miss if you blink. The place is small and is typically filled with construction workers if you go for lunch during the week and families coming from church if you go on Sunday. I've only tried the flautas and the mole enchiladas. The enchiladas were great but it comes with 3 to an order and they're very filling. I had a hard time finishing everything. The flautas were good but it would be even better if it came with rice & beans. I would pay extra for that. You place your order at the counter when you walk in and hopefully can find an open table (the place is small). They call out your number in spanish when your order is ready to pick up from the front. This place is good if you're looking for something fast and casual. I ordered a few of the tacos al carbon. The meat was so delicious and sizzling as soon as it came out of the kitchen. I probably could have eaten my weight in these amazing things. iFIESTA EN LA BOCA! That should be the name of this little gem. Other than Fuel City Tacos it's been awhile since I've been to an authentic Mexican, er, shack. This one is right by the medical center so Dr. S introduced it to me the other night for dinner. They had a bunch of stuff on the menu and I wanted to order it all. I tried a carnitas and fajita taco (both tasty with the usual fixins plus their hot sauce that I agree with Diego on...I couldn't tell you what's in it!...but the corn tortillas were a little hard and greasy, like they were partially fried? Still good though, just different.) I also had one of the sopes al pastor. Dr. S had the pambazo, which was something I had never heard of...a GIANT sandwich where the bread is like slathered in a pepper sauce (on the outside!), then filled with chorizo, potatoes, lettuce, crema, and queso fresco. It was awesome!!! The horchata was top notch too. I can't wait to come back and try more. And more and more. I guess that means my YMCA is going to be seeing a LOT of me this year! read more

So my friend and I were craving some street tacos and wanted to try something new. The rating for this taco place wasnt too bad and I just thought it would be worth to try. The first thing you might noticed when you walk inside the restaurant is that it seemed like a convenient store with hispanic candy and popsicles. Its not the nicest restaurant in town but I didnt expect it to be with prices to be so affordable. My friend and I got the al pastor and barbacoa tacos and we both shared the chicken tortas. The gentleman at the counter was very nice and helpful since this was our first time. Im not exactly sure how some taco places are but I prefer the chef to season the meat with the appropriate amount of salt and seasoning. For some reason, my tacos and chicken tortas were extremely bland. I was a bit confused. Im a huge fan of street tacos and can tell you that I have definitely had better tacos at other venues less than a mile away. On the positive side, I was really happy that the Mexican influences popsicles were the best Ive ever had being reasonably prices at $1.50 each. These popsicles are way better compared to Steel city pops in my opinion. I got the pineapple flavoured posicle and my friend chose the tres leches popsicle. Overall: I think I would only come back to the place to get a popsicle and fulfill my street taco cravings at a nearby taco joint within a mile. The popsicles were great! read more

How Tortas La Hechizera saved my soul. I had just spent a weekend in the San Francisco Bay area. On the way home to DFW I was sad, because the asian cuisine in CA was so amazing, and now I would be back in Texas. We landed at Love Field, & since I hadn't eaten for hours, stopped at Tortas La Hechizera for a snack. I had never been here before. I got a pambazo. My wife, less adventurous, had some chicken taquitos. Yay! My pambazo was stupendous (I ate it w/ knife & fork) while my wife liked her meal okay, but really raved over her rice pudding dessert. Of course, chicken taquitos are basically meant to be bland, so she probably liked them as much as possible. I was re-invigorated and once more proud of Texas. Yeah, CA might serve a great Chinese lunch (for $20 a plate), but my sandwich was not only less than $6, it tasted as good in its way as anything on the West Coast, & it was more filling. read more

But does that really matter when they've got the best tortas in town? After sampling several, my go-to is the Aragon Torta. Cheesy fajitas in a torta? YES PLEASE! They're large, so opt to share! My boyfriend can down the whole thing in one go (plus my leftovers). I can usually only finish half, but that just means I have another meal for later :) Their Horchata is also bomb and refreshing. Hot sauce here is great but really SPICY. Highly recommend if you're in the area! Inexpensive but DELICIOUS carryout - make sure to call ahead to have your order ready in 10-15 min!! To be honest, I wasn't impressed with any part of my experience here. After hearing so many amazing things about Texas Mexican food, I thought I would be walking into a hidden gem. I definitely did not. The first thing you'll notice is that if you're not a spanish speaker, you might feel a bit out of place. For example, the woman who takes your order only has the most basic english skills so you will not be able to ask any questions about the all-spanish menu. I tried to ask "What's the best thing on the menu?" and the nice woman behind me had to translate for me. The order-taker then pointed to the Torta Cubano and I smiled and nodded my head. She then pointed at a bottle of apple soda and I once again nodded, smiled, and gave a thumbs up. Of note, they don't take Amex but do take Visa cards. The second thing you'll notice is that the 2-person tables are very small, although to be fair, there were four-seater tables that I didn't want to use up because I was here alone. The food is brought out to you, which is nice, but the plates are styrofoam, and the silverware is very cheap plastic, cheaper than the stuff you'd get at a hospital cafeteria. As for the food, the $7.50 Torta Cubano is basically a thin slice of ham, a slice of deep fried pork (maybe chicken?), a hotdog/sausage, avocado, mayo, thin tomato, and bean paste sandwiched in a giant white-bread bun (See attached photo). It's very large and I felt very full afterwards, but it felt very... "cheap" in many ways. Every part of the torta seemed like it was sourced from 99c store freezers. Just to make matters slightly worse, my 500mL Joya apple soda didn't have the great flavor that Martinelli's sparkling cider has and now that I think of it, I'm not even sure if it was made from real apple juice... As I write this review, I'm feeling bloated and regretful of my choice. In summary, this is a small restaurant aimed at the Hispanic community that serves food that I wouldn't consider high quality, at prices that I don't consider a bargain. read more

Not worth the money. My husband and I ordered Tortas, him the Hawaiian and me the Pastora. Tortas were $10 (SUPER EXPENSIVE), the cashier said "frys okay?" and didn't mention that they were an extra $2.50 per person, we also got a small drink for i think $2.50 or $3. We got our food, and it was more bread than anything. Meat did not have flavor AT ALL. Neither of our tortas had enough meat, the fries were straight from the freezer and probably tossed in the fyer for 2 mins since they were definitely not cooked when served. We had spent $30 for flavorless and uncooked food. Please do yourself a favor and spend your money else where, for super simple tortas you can definetly make them at home yourself and they might even come out better and cheaper then here. read more

Solid tacos..solid. This isn't really a taqueria, but it's damn close. Everyone's eating tacos!! From the outside it looks like an old building, but rest assured it's been fixed up nicely inside..you wouldn't know it was the same building! They have two giant TV's displaying their menu(in Espanol and English..together..nice touch) and their prices are very reasonable. I got my standard Al Pastor tacos..which were the size of my fist..kinda small, but only $1.60 so I can't really complain. There was a marinade on them, that was quite yummy I must say..I added red sauce to it, and boom delicious! You should get like 4 at least if you're hungry. It takes a few to fill ya up! This is my go-to for food if it's been a long day at work and I don't feel like cooking. While I've had many items on their menu, Tortas are their namesake, and boy do they deliver on it. First, they are larger than most Tortas I've had. I can finish a full one, but my girlfriend can only eat half. Their meats are full of flavor, and do not get lost in the flavors of the other ingredients. My favorite is the Carne Asada (beef fajita) Torta, but if you're feeling freaky and want to get weird with it, Al Pastor (pork marinated with pineapple & spices) is another awesome choice. Some tips: if you're planning on grabbing food to go, CALL AHEAD! They will have your food ready within 10 minutes, so it can be ready when you arrive. READ: hot sauce is much hotter than others, I poured it all over my torta on my first visit... it was almost too much for me, but I love heat.
