One of my favorite Mexican places! A great family place! It's Tex-Mex, but definitely leans towards real Mexican. The food's great, and I love the servers/managers/owners! I love their verdé, or red pork guisada (stew). Try it with the nopalites (prickly pear cactus). When it's raw, it's somewhat fibrous, somewhat the texture of radishes or jicama, but not as crisp. It has a fairly bland, I want to say avocado taste, but that's not right. Most Texans have probably never tried prickly pear, yet it grows all over Texas, and Fiesta sells a ton of it. I don't even see it that much at the taquerias I go to (maybe just me). I also like their carnitas which I don't always find in Dallas; although, that may be my ignorance. Definitely good guacamole. I'm not ashamed to admit I like my "gringo" crispy beef tacos :~) It's probably just me, but I just like them there more than any place in Dallas. The daily lunch choices are a @deal (Friday's my crispy taco day ;-) Also, take home some tortillas, cooked, or fresh (to cook yourself later so they're hot, and fresh). I think they're maybe $6 a dozen (as of 5/2024)?? There's a lot of great Tex-Mex places in Dallas, and a fair amount of real Mexican (tons if you count taquerias), but you should try this one! Can I just say YUM! I was absolutely blown away by the food at Tipico's. Everything on the menu was delicious and so authentic to the Mexican food I am used to being from New Mexico. We tried a few dishes including the red chile and meat, the chicken flautas, the red chile cheese enchiladas, burritos de guiso and the complimentary chips and salsa and honestly we enjoyed every single thing that we tried. This is the first time I asked my husband to pick me up breakfast tacos to go and he ordered egg, potatoes with beans and another with bacon and ordered 3 more a total of 5 and he brought it to my job from Dallas Location to my job in Fort Worth and I have never had bad tacos like this.. it was like eating nothing but soaked grease. Overall this is authentic Mexican kitchen cooking. Good variety of options from tacos to guisados to nopales and caldos de res y pollo. My family and I split a caldo de pollo and some carne asada tacos and they were great. Homemade tortillas and salsa that had a little bite were also good. I asked for some jalapeños toreados on the side and those were excellent. The restaurant is always busy and even had a valet on the weekends during the day. As much as I love coming here and love their food, their services OK sometimes but there's been several times in this year of 2023 a young little girl with curly hair that checks you out at the counter. You have to be careful with your ticket because she will double the amount on your plates or on a side item and will overcharge you and she's done it to me twice and I do not understand why, is the owner not catching onto this or he's in cahoots with her it's just not right you come to a restaurant that you like and you've been coming here for over 25 years because you knew the woman the owner and then it changes all the sudden to overcharging people on their card without people realizing you have to ask for your receipt all the time. Make sure you are not being overcharged, what is right is right and what is wrong is wrong sooner or later it'll catch up to them read more

I came in today for lunch with my co workers. After reading all of the rave reviews and seeing ammmmazing pictures I was super excited to try it!! It's a small little place that is packed to the brim (not just on Sunday's like some of the reviews said lol). We sat ourselves and our waitress came over pretty quick and got our drink orders out fast. Chips and salsas are pretty good. We got two of the warm salsa cups and one cold one. I wish they would give each person their own two (one hot one cold). It was a little awkward everyone trying to get their own little cup and not knowing which to grab, but wanting to try both. We did order queso that they forgot, so didn't get to try that. I went in wanting the cheese enchiladas, but still teetering on the idea of the sour cream enchiladas based on reviews of how good it is. So when I saw the combo plate of one cheese enchilada and one beef enchilada. I thought YES I'll get one cheese and one beef with sour cream sauce!!! What I got was two beef enchiladas, one with sour cream sauce and one with no sauce. Not sure how that happened! This is definitely one of the most authentic Mexican restaurants I have eaten at in all of DFW. Unassuming with no frills make it immediately inviting. My sister said that every time she drives by their parking lot it's packed full which led us to try it in the first place. Clearly locals are in the know because the food is simply delicious. Minutes after being seated warm chips and two different kinds of salsa were brought to our table. One was cold and mild while the other was lukewarm with an addicting punch of heat. Refills are brought quickly so it's hard to practice self control. They have some adventurous menu items like tripas (intestines) and lengua (tongue), but also the traditional favorites everyone loves such as quesadillas, enchiladas, and burritos. My sisters boyfriend had the tripas and said it was great, while she ordered the carne guisada which is a slow roasted Mexican beef stew with large tender chunks of meat and onions. I kept it simple with cheese enchiladas and they were so flavorful!! I felt like someone's abuela was in the kitchen because it sure tasted that way. As we were checking out at the register, one of the owners told us that many of their recipes have been passed down for generations within their family. I absolutely love that. What makes it even better is how inexpensive it is. My giant plate was under $7 AFTER tax! You cannot beat that kind of quality for such cheap prices. This is the coldest mug of beer I think I have ever had. We *love* local Mexican dives, especially cheap local Mexican dives. We stumbled upon Tipico's by... of course... checking Yelp. And we immediately fell in love. Maybe it was the prices, maybe it was the way the beer crystalized from a mug colder than Pluto, maybe it was the way the waitress kept flirting with us, even though she didn't know two words in English. My favorite part of this is the local feel. It's as if all the real Mexicans in Texas decided that Tipico's was the best Mexican food in town. There's loud Spanish futball on the tele, there's more Spanish than English spoken. The waitress nods at everything you say, as if she understands. The food is pretty typical. If it wasn't for the icyest cold beer I ever had, I don't think I would have noticed the food at all. The folks get a little loud here, so don't come when its popular if you hate crowds. But if you want a fun, lively place for a date and to brush up on your Spanish, then this is definitely the right place to be! read more

Insiders tip/ first timers tip: Seat yourself and a waiter will come over. And when you're done eating, take your table # to the front to check out. I am uploading new photos of the menu because it looks like the pricing has gone up by a few dollars on a few things. When you're seated they bring you free chips and 2 types of salsa. I ordered (#50) - a chicken (pollo) quesadilla. It came with a side of rice, beans, and a small scoop of guacamole. The guacamole was so good (probably because it had a bit of salt), that I ordered a large portion to-go. The large guacamole was literally 2 scoops - so buyer beware, but it was good so I didn't mind. It was super fresh considering some of the skin of the guacamole was mixed into my large order of guacamole. Towards the end, the waitress didn't come as often, which would have expedited my checkout experience; however, it seems like they have a lot of locals, so they probably expect everyone to know how it works. read more

Saturday morning breakfast and out of ideas? That's where Leo Z. and I were this past weekend . . .YAWN! La Madeline? No. Pancake House? No. Cynde's? No. Hey wait! TIPICOS! I had lunch there once, and suddenly we were both in the mood for a Mexican breakfast. Well dear Yelpers, let me tell you, I wasn't sure I was going to find a parking spot! YIKES! This location is right next to Bachman Lake, so really, pretty much IN Mexico! We squeezed in to a tiny spot and went inside. The place was PACKED!!! OMG I couldn't hear myself think, but the smell of Chilaquiles and the bowls of menudo were enough to send me straight to heaven! There wasn't a table to be had, but suddenly one came open, and we slid into a plastic booth. Menus were already on the table and I immediately went for the chilaquiles (see photo). I forget what Leo Z. ordered but about a minute after we sat down a waitress was there to take our order. I was certain there was going to be an extended wait due to the crowd, but wrong again! Right after she took our order, another person came with two mugs of coffee, a basket of chips with two different kinds of salsa. One hot, and one for Leo (hahaha). YUMMO! This was really hitting the spot! Not even 10 minutes had passed when our breakfast arrived! Oh MAN those were some of the best chilaquiles I've ever had! Spicy, full of bacon and chorizo! SO yummy! Competing with the crowd was a guy playing the guitar and singing. Folks, we're talking 9:30 in the morning! It was more crowded than a gay bar at midnight on a Saturday! Here's this guy singing, playing guitar, every table full, this wonderful food everywhere . . . you get the picture! Great place for authentic mexican food. I got three different tacos: barbacoa, al carbon y carnitas on corn tortilla. Tasted great and the service was fast! I'm not really a flour tortilla kind of person so I'm not sure how they are there. Friend got the spinach enchiladas and they looked amazing! Really great salsas (warm and cold one served with chips). I would love to try the pollo con mole next time. Great place for lunch. Busy but not too crowded. read more

When I was trying to find a place for a bunch of my old coworkers and I to meet up, I knew it needed to be somewhere in the middle - and tasty! YELP to the rescue! I mapped everyone out, found the reasonable middle, and then did a map search for the area, and what do you know? Tipico's popped up as a Yelp favorite! No wonder it is. It is the best kind of hole-in-the-wall dive, with a tiny parking lot (good luck getting a spot!) in an area of town you'd otherwise have no idea where to stop. The inside is rather small, just go in and grab a table and start flipping through the menu. A waiter/waitress will come by to get your drink order and then let you keep perusing the menu. We snacked on chips (tasty) and my coworkers had salsa (they all said it was hot!) and then we ordered. I got the #17 sour cream enchiladas, and while those were tasty (and HUGE portions for the price) I have to repeat another reviewer who said the refried beans were AMAZING. I have no idea what magical blend of spices they have going on, but they were delicioso! The rice is alright, pretty standard tex-mex rice. I did like their sour cream sauce, and the didn't skimp on the chicken or the cheese on the inside which left me with a pair of huge, yummy enchiladas to devour. I made it through one, even though I wanted to keep going. The refried beans? They didn't stand a chance. I would have licked the plate if I wasn't around professional peers! At the end of the meal we were all stuffed and most of us had to-go boxes, which speaks to the portion sizes. Take note of your table number and head to the register, they'll pull your ticket and have you pay out based on what you ordered. Everyone was friendly here, the food was good, and it was a great location for what we needed!
