My Fam and I have been to Tiny's for breakfast twice now. We kept avoiding it because of the mixed reviews but overall, we enjoyed the experience and plan on returning. They have affordable prices and yummy breakfast choices. It's also family friendly, which is a plus for us. I have been to Tiny's two times over the last six months and have to say I've had a very pleasant experience both times. This most recent time, I had the pleasure of meeting the manager Brian. He was very courteous and took care of his customers with thoroughness and is committed to providing the best experience for guests. I really appreciate that. As for the food, I'm a big breakfast guy so by nature I'm going to like everything on the menu but I was very pleased with my omelette. I am very disappointed with the service at this diner. The place had about 3 or 4 booths full but that is no excuse for the lack of attention me and my husband were given here to just order a take-out item. We order take-out all the time from home but I am seriously disappointed in the service received when going in there. The manager, Brian, was on his phone, seemingly like he couldn't care there were customers waiting to be attended to. It seemed as if they were more concerned with the patrons dining in. Wow. It's bad. I wanted this place to work out, but the food is just so bad. I mean how do you mess up a grilled cheese sandwich and still call yourself a diner? Seriously, hire a chef! What are you waiting for?! Someone who knows how to cook, not just open freezer bags of pre-fab food and heat it up. Even the guacamole was pre-fab and tasted like a plastic tub. Great little diner with fresh vegetarian and gluten free options (although I personally had the French dip!) I had lunch here and really enjoyed the food and the friendly staff, the latter being pretty rare in the Bronx. Would definitely recommend for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They have great fresh squeezed orange juice and the vegetables were surprisingly (for a diner) fresh and delicious. Big portions, so if you like leftovers or are very hungry I would recommend checking this place out. read more

Tiny's has an excellent atmosphere. It is decorated in a charming 50's retro look including lovely black and white tile work. The food is great. I've been there many times for breakfast and lunch and have always been satisfied with my meal. However, I am careful not to go to Tiny's unless I know I have plenty of time on my hands. The service has at times been quite slow, and the employees frequently flustered and harried. One recommendation I would make is to secure the booths more firmly to the walls. They are a bit flimsy, so you feel the movement of whoever is sitting in the booth behind you. If it's a wiggly person, that can impede your enjoyment of your meal. In summary--a charming place to eat if you don't mind a leisurely pace. read more

We went there for breakfast and it was absolutely delicious!!! I had the blueberry pancake which was really tasty and airy. The blueberries in the pancake was half melted and still warm when they served it. It was amazing. I also had a spinach and tomato omelette which was also really tasty. The flavor was just right and the spinach really had a lot of flavor. I suggest you go if you're around the neighborhood. read more

Their portion sizes are amazing for their low prices and the atmosphere is so inviting! The staff is so friendly, and recognized me after a few times of going in the beginning. I'm baffled by the bad reviews here. The food here is tasty diner fare AND they sell the delicious Lloyd's Carrot Cake -- one of only a few places in Riverdale to offer it. The wait was long, the servers were rude and incompetent and the food was inedible! They even served us BURNT toast and then had the audacity to expect complete payment after we complained (!) with merely, "we hope it is better the next time you come in." They obviously do not know how to cook, deal with people and/or run a business! We were very excited to try Tiny's - we patronize many local businesses and want them to do well. I never write reviews on restaurants but the customer service here is terrible! When I first started going to Tinys I loved it! It was my favorite diner in Riverdale but as time went on service got worse back in June I waited nearly an hour before my waitress realized that she never put our order in and then when I said forget it and got up to leave she got an attitude. This Morning I Went To Have breakfast there and the waitress was rude and unfriendly when we sat down she gave us menus and after 15 mins of us sitting there she came over and asked if we were in a rush because she was not sure when we were going to be able to eat. Completely blew my mind because the place was not even packed but I over heard the cook saying he was leaving in 30 mins and that was it. She was still rude when relaying the message of not sure how long it would be before we got to actually get served and unapologetic. I felt like we were being kicked out of the restaurant. They really need a new staff in that place employees who are actually people friendly and not there just to get a pay check I worked in a restaurant for a few years and i know that things get overwelhming at times but I never treated customers like this! read more

My friends and I frequently grace Tiny's with our presence. But as of recently the service has changed - things have gone downhill. Today we went for brunch. Our waitresses did not meet our expectations. The first waitress made us repeat our orders multiple times. We did not get untensils until 10 minutes into the meal. We were SO hungry that we started eating with our hands. We ordered curly fries, which were good, but they didn't come until 30 minutes after our food arrived. but it doesn't stop there. We did not receive water refills until the end of the meal, straws, or napkins. Ordered pancakes but no syrup. Despite all this, our waitress didn't seem too apologetic. She rolled her eyes, walked away while we were answering a question, and made us sort our checks. I don't think it was all her fault. She was obviously stressed and the diner needed more workers. Either way, my friends and I will find a new place to get fries and pancakes. read more

I ordered a Philly cheese steak. According to their menu, it comes on a hero roll, with Swiss cheese, onions, and peppers. Philly steaks usually don't come with Swiss cheese, but I ordered one anyway. When it arrived, the sandwich was on a soggy hamburger bun. The meat was simply a square of unsliced steak-um. Yes, just a solid piece of steak-um on a soggy burger bun. It also had mushrooms, which the menu did not mention. It tasted bland, with the mushrooms providing most of the flavor. Went here for an early dinner with my 6 year old cousin, J. We were warmly greeted by the young gentleman behind the counter. He was cute. We decided to sit on one of the brand spanking new booths. Comfortable, plus fabulous and sparkly enough for J. I ordered the beef burger deluxe and J ordered waffles. I thoroughly enjoyed the burger. Juicy, tasty, angus beef, my mouth is watering just thinking about it now! I like it with lettuce, tomatoes, and red onions, but you have the option of adding various types of cheeses, mushrooms, bacon and etc. Finished every bit of it. The kitchen mistakenly added powdered sugar on J's waffle, our waitress was very apologetic and quickly ordered another one. J got her waffles, she liked it, no biggie. The service was great. Our waitress was nice, helpful, and served us with a smile on her face. The owner I could tell is very involved with his business as customers knew him and calls him Tiny. He came over and asked how everything was. A nice fella. A big friendly giant he is. This place is GREAT!!! The atmosphere is very pleasant, very clean. Has a great 50's sort of vibe to the decor. Both the waitress and the cashier were friendly and welcoming. I literally only waited at the most 7 minutes for my order! When it arrived it was enough to feed an army. I had an onion omelet with home fries, and an everything bagel. The food was really delicious!! This place has it all, I am living in this neighborhood for almost 4 years and just found this great spot. Also, they are incredibly reasonable in price. I was surprised to see some of the one star reviews for this place. I couldn't help but wonder if I have been to the same restaurant. While I can't comment on the dinners, I have been here for breakfast a few times, and each time, I found the service and food to be quite good. I have tried both the omelets and french toast sandwiches , and it was clear that the ingredients were fresh, and the eggs perfectly fluffy. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly, the ambience fun, and the place overall was squeaky clean. Riverdale desperately needs good restaurants, especially breakfast places. I sincerely hope that the problems other reviewers found have been rectified. It is a relatively new place, so naturally there will be kinks, but I really hope Tiny's becomes a new fixture on Riverdale Avenue. Judging from the lack of empty tables on all my visits, I don't think I am the only one that finds this place to be at minimum a 4 star diner. read more

It is a nice quaint diner. I came here to pass the time and have a good filling breakfast while I was at it. I had a better experience than expected. The prices were low and portions large. Waitress staff were very friendly and always checked in. Never rushed me out even when the lunch crowd started to roll in (like I said was trying to pass the time). The food was good for a low-priced diner on the corner. The tables were very clean and actually looked like they were new. I would say that they could serve better ham with their breakfast platters (I was expecting a thicker Canadian style cut of ham and got two rectangular thin slices of ham like it was straight out of an Oscar Meyer package), but really, that was the "worst" of it. All around I think it's a great alternative to the commercialized Starbucks breakfast/cafe experience. Very chill environment. They have two TVs in the far corners for those who like a little CNN/Nick Jr in the morning with their morning Joe. Also I ordered multiple cups of coffee (three?) and they didn't charge me an extra. My friends and I went to Tiny's Diner on November 2, 2012. I found that they had a great selection of appetizers, main courses, salads and desserts and even a children's menu. We had the following dishes: the Chicken Fajita Quesadilla Wrap, the Quesadilla with BBQ Chicken, sauteed mushrooms and onion, the Homemade Lasagna, the Stuffed Avocado with Chicken Salad. The food was delicious and reasonably priced! We also had a special dessert created by the chef, crepes with apricot filling. Yum!!!! I'm so surprised to see any negative reviews because I LOVE this place!! I live nearby so have been here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and have also ordered takeout. I think the food is great, the portions are huge, and the prices are reasonable. Service can be a little slow sometimes, but is always friendly and polite. They have a breakfast special for $11.95 that's enormous. It included three pieces of challah French toast, heavenly, very light and with powdered sugar on top (or three pancakes also light and fluffy), one egg any style, bacon, ham, AND sausage, as well as a bottomless cup of coffee and a shot of fresh squeezed orange juice. Forget about your cholesterol; this breakfast is worth it! I've also had the chocolate chip pancakes, which are amazing. There's a huge selection of omelettes and frittatas yet to try. For lunch or dinner I've had the Mexican burger, which comes with a lot of guacamole and perfect fries, the spinach pie, which comes with a "side" Greek salad as big as a regular one, the moussaka (enough for two meals) which was SO delicious, the grilled vegetable panini, which had such fresh vegetables, several different wraps (there's a big selection). And I was really excited to try them when I first read the article in the Riverdale Press back in October. But back to my experience. My daughter and I figure we would try breakfast. My daughter ordered a Spanish omelette, but who puts zucchini, carrots and squash in a Spanish omelette? Best thing about the place was the coffee and that's only because it was freshly made. Wait staff need to write the orders down so they don't forget and then try to blame the customers. WHICH BRINGS ME TO MY FINAL CRITIQUE FOR TINY'S... I just moved to Riverdale a couple of months ago and this is the first place we went to eat out. It's a fun little place done like a small 50's diner. We have eaten here about 6 times now and I really like it. They recently got a new Austrian chef... that may seem odd for a 50's American place but I have to tell you he is putting out some delicious food. He had a Goulash special that was outstanding. If they were doing a lot of frozen food in the beginning, I think that issue has been fixed for the most part with the new chef. The wait staff seems to have a lot of turnover but they try real hard to please. I would suggest people that wrote previous reviews come give it another try now. I think the prices are excellent and you get a lot for the money. I will keep supporting them not only because we need to support small business in the area.... but because it's a great little place. read more

Everything is wrong about this place. To start, they don't know how to follow through on their own format. The fifties like theme is confused with the 3 flat screen tvs playing a bad Denzel shootem' up movie. The waitress tried but it felt like it was her first day. The menu is less than appetizing but when you do work up the nerve to order something that sounds like it'll be pulled out of the freezer and heated up, it takes much longer than expected to reach the table. And, we were one of two tables in the whole place. The food as awful. No taste and ill prepared. The chef has no idea what it is to cook. I thought it was on fire, but the waitress said it wasn't on fire, just the smoke from cooking some hamburgers. The waitress seemed rather annoyed that I found the smoke bothersome. The food is fine, and the restaurant is cute, but DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY. It will always take at least an hour, often 90 minutes, and once it took over 2 hours. I enjoyed the Diner! Went with my son last night and we both had a great time. They even printed out my son's name for him to color. Great burgers, beef for me, and turkey for him with curly fries. Real milk shake made with fresh strawberries. This is the second time we have been there and the staff is very friendly. Its obvious the old bad reviews are not what this place is now. Tiny's Eggs Florentine is the BEST anywhere!! The hollandaise sauce is light and made the right way, not thick and gooey like Blue Bay! The portion is also huge! I love that the cook is the former owner and he has the experience. The service however can be slow. (Have frequented this place more often since it opened and it is a great place!!!! I am a pretty regular customer and the wait staff is great. Being a small place that gets pretty busy my comment about slow service is only because it can get a little too busy for only 2 waitresses.) read more
