I wish I could give this place more stars because it looks super cute, but unfortunately that was not my experience. My friend was visiting from California and another friend recommended this place for brunch and shared an article about it being one of the Top 10 Dog Friendly Places in Houston. We arrived around 1pm and were instantly looked up and down and told they do not allow dogs. My dog is a well behaved 9 pound Maltese/Shih-Tzu mix. Now I'm being told this while I can clearly see across the grassy area another lady sitting on the couch by the lawn with her larger dog. The hostesses were not very welcoming and to be honest were quite rude. We won't be going back. If you up for hooty tooty people acting like they are better than you - maybe this is your place. Think of the scene in Pretty Woman where the high end shopping clerks turn away her business. These hostesses didn't fall short of treating us in that manner. read more

A really great brunch spot with very cute aesthetics for pictures if you don't mind the long wait/line. That was the only downside to this place. The food is great and their drinks are even better! Definitely try a chocolate chip cookie for dessert if you have room! I really hope this place expands or they open up another location to calm down the lines. read more

I finally got a chance to try out this place after hearing so many people talk about and seeing all the good reviews. Unfortunately I have to say that I was rather disappointed. I went on a weekday a little past 11 so I was able to enjoy their lunch menu. There wasn't that many options to choose from but I chose the Cubano sandwich, while my friends got the Southwestern salad, and French country sandwich. Although we ordered right after one another their foods came out wayyy before mine (about 15 minutes). The person who brought their food out assured me that mine would be out soon, but I just sat there and waited. It was really frustrating because it was a weekday, and there was not that many people in the restaurant. I would understand if it was during brunch or other peak times. It wasn't until I grabbed a waiter and asked them to check the status of my sandwich did my plate come (immediately right after I asked...). Which is super sketch and makes me think they might have forgotten me....because my friend also ordered a sandwich so that is no excuse. The other reason that this place did not get a higher rating from me is that it is unnecessarily expensive. I paid +$30 for one small drink and a simple sandwich that I had to wait a long time for. I mean, if you want to try it for yourself and see what everyone is talking about (it is a very cute place full of areas you can takes pics for the Gram) but honestly other than that, I wouldn't recommend it. I guess I ended paying for the aesthetic??? First and foremost, the reason I give this place 4 stars is the atmosphere and the aesthetic of this place is GORGEOUS! It reminds me of a small European cafe--complete with beautiful greenery, cute patio furniture, a quaint little shaded area, and nicely portioned and presented food. Great place for pictures. The reason why I hesitate on giving this place 5 stars is that, it is Texas and most restaurants here boast a much bigger portion for the price you pay at Tiny Boxwoods. I feel like I could bring a group of girlfriends here and they'd appreciate the aesthetic, the pretty drinks, and the delicious cookies. But I'd fear if I brought my boyfriend and guy friends here, they'd be upset they paid so much to still be somewhat hungry lol! That being said, I highly recommend coming here for brunch first, because they're dinner menu is a lot more pricey and small portioned, in my opinion. Parking seems meek but there's more down the street (dirt parking), as well as all along the street (make sure to read the signs to ensure you won't get towed!) Although it's on the pricey side, the ambiance is worth it, in my opinion. My friend introduced me to the Just Beet It burger and I've never ordered anything else ever since. If you want to try their pastries/baked goods...go early. They typically run out of the popular items by lunch time. Whenever someone asks what my favorite burger is now, I'm always tempted to say BEET BURGER. The patty admittedly has a frightening appearance (chunky and reddish) but it has forever influenced all my opinions regarding beets...love 'em now! It was slightly sweet, very moist, and has a chewy texture from the added black beans. I've also tried the steak salad and infamous chocolate chip cookie. All delicious! The prices are steep, but you can definitely taste the quality of ingredients used. The atmosphere is also one of the most unique I've encountered in Houston. Once stepping in, I instantly felt like I was transported to another city. Honestly, I felt that way upon driving onto the street it was on and was forced to parallel park (...uh, what's that?) But don't worry, the Texas heat will definitely keep you in check. Both times I've been here I've gotten confused on where the entrance was. I've been looking forward to trying Tiny Boxwoods' ever since it became popular on all my girlfriends' list of brunch places. Be warned that if you're planning on eating here, you should probably put a little more effort into what you're going to wear. It's definitely a dress to impress restaurant although the environment is more laid back and relaxed. Finding the actual restaurant is easy to find from Westheimer with the help of GoogleMaps- but the path to turn into the restaurant is tiny (as is their parking lot). I did notice that there was a sign that pointed to the secondary parking lot but it was kind of confusing because it was pointed to a townhouse's parking lot. If you get confused, just call! The entrance to the restaurant is located on the side that's closer towards Westheimer. As you walk through the garden, there is plenty of outdoor seating scattered all around in addition to their indoor seating area-- which probably sits around ~75. I came around dinnertime on a Thursday night and was lucky enough to get sat right away even with a party of 6. Service was okay. Our server was markedly absent through most of the dinner and only showed up to refill our waters at random times. As Jessica W. pointed out, it was slightly thorough but was not prompt. I ordered the Shrimp Risotto, and for $32 dollars, the portion was a letdown. I tried my friends' fig and prosciutto pizza- which was both sweet and savory. If I were to return, I'd probably get that. My friends' lamb burger wasn't remarkable but if you're a fries person, they give you a wholllle bunch. This place is so adorable! I went at like 10 am on a Sunday, so the line was crazy long, but that's my own fault...I would definitely come back at a less-busy time! We sat outside at one of the tables near the nursery, and I loved the surrounding greenery. The food was very fresh and brunch-y. The pastries looked amazing, and I will be getting one when I go back! I had the breakfast pizza, and the flavor combo was great. I also had a mimosa which was so refreshing. I think it's really cute that they open up cocktail stands for people in line - keeps the growing line tamed! I took away one point for service, though. I've been here for brunch twice. It's always busy so anticipate waiting in line for a bit to get your order and seating. They are counter service. The food has always been good, I've gotten the mothers breakfast and migas. The cocktails are also good; I had the Summer fling which was delicious. I was so sad that after living in Houston for four years, today was my first time at Tiny Boxwoods. I loved the atmosphere, the interior and landscape design, and the picturesque location tucked away from the street and any signs of traffic. The restaurant and outdoor seating is in a courtyard of sorts right next to a lush nursery full of everything you could ever want or imagine. We had weekday breakfast there in an effort to avoid the brunch rush. You order at the counter and then try your best to snag an aesthetic table outside or under the canopy across a small lawn. I ordered the avocado toast, the cappuccino, and a famous cookie. I think the standout was the avocado toast, on which they provide two substantial pieces of bacon and a perfect over medium egg. It was the prettiest presentation combined with the best taste. The cookie lived up to the hype but did not blow my mind, maybe my expectations were too high or it was the fact that I ate it after it had cooled. Food was a bit overpriced so I'm not sure that I would come here too regularly, but I think as a first timer it was worth it for the experience. Service was attentive and friendly as well. read more

The set-up is very chic and unique. I love the greenery and the outdoor seating with a small field for the youngins to run around on. It's a small cafe type place so there's limited space on tables. If you go for Sunday brunch, expect a wait cause the line goes out the door. My friend and I went for a brunch on Sunday and we waited about 25 minutes to get to the register. We ordered the potato and egg with feta cheese and basil pesto pizza and shared. It was so tasty! A great dish for vegetarians. I love basil pesto and they didn't over-do the spread. We crushed the yolk and spread it all over the pizza. The potato toppings were perfectly cooked, they just melted in your mouth. I've been here only 3 times and I've never been disappointed. We ordered the morning cheese and meat board (trio of cheeses and cured meats, honeycomb, fruits, flatbreads, rosemary hazelnuts, jalapeno jelly) and egg and avocado (scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese, avocado mash, tomatillo salsa, cilantro and blistered tortillas) dishes. I thought the board would have been enough for 2. All 3 cheeses were excellent, and it came with 2 meats - salami and prosciutto. We ran out of flatbread, and the server kindly sent over a bowl of warm, freshly made bread. My favorite part of this board was the jalapeno/hazelnut combination. They are placed right next to each other...clever move on the chef's part! The egg avocado dish was good but pretty standard. They normally have a movie that shows outdoors. Dinner starts at 5:30pm but I would suggest getting there an hour early in order to get a table outside before the movie. You can grab drinks and talk at the bar or sit outside while you wait for your table. Our timing yesterday was perfect and we were seated outside at 5pm. You must try their cookies! Such an amazing little treat in Houston. On a beautiful day this should be one of the places you stop by for brunch and lunch. From 3-5p there's a slightly limited menu with cheeseboards. I had the Parisian board with super fluffy Artisanal bread, olives, pesto, goat cheese and ham. I paired it with a red wine sangria. I can't say enough about the ambiance of this place, it manages to stay fairly quiet even tucked away in a busy part of town. Very relaxed atmosphere with French music in the background and small birds that occasionally visit on the vines. I will definitely be back to sit in the garden. I also love the abundance of parking. I have driven past this place well over a hundred times without ever knowing it existed. Located near W alabama/edloe next to a nursery this small eatery gets pretty chaotic for brunch, even if the weather is bad. I was at first turned off prior to even getting our food because they wouldnt let my pregnant wife who was due in 4 days to sit and rest while I ordered, but she ended up not going into labor there so no harm, no foul. I probably wouldnt let that detour you from eating here though. They actually control how the line moves which does cause some bottle necking. The way it works for brunch, you line up, order, and the servers will secure a table for you, so you are not fighting with others for tables. There are a lot of outdoor seating options which works if the weather is nice. The food is OK, not life changing by any means, but it will do. Ordered the pastry board, steak and egg pizza, and tasted my wife's migas. Didnt get to try their famous cookies, ran out of room. Coffee was decent and goes well with their pastries Parking: better off just going to Kipling and Saint, or you can use the nursery parking after 5pm, theres another lot on kipling thats huge which I ended up using, small walk, but if weather sucks its noticeable. read more

Lovely ambiance! The service was wonderful. We ordered a lamb burger and shrimp risotto. The burger lamb burger was full of flavor and perfectly cooked at medium. The shrimp risotto was extremely salty. So much so that most of it was left untouched. This is the reason for the four star review as opposed to the five stars. I would suggest that you spray on insect repellent if you are sitting outside. The outdoor sitting is well we worth the effort. If you want average food for 20 dollars, this is the place for you. There's nothing special about this place besides the outrages prices. The decor and scenery are decent but I did not come for the decor obviously. You're better off going to Whataburger to get food as fulfilling for half the price and 3x the flavor. First of all, they only have 10 parking spots. My friend and I parked in a spot in their parking lot, only to be aggressively told by an employee that that particular part of the parking lot is only for the plant store of tiny boxwoods. The guy was practically foaming at the mouth. No one is buying plants at 11 am on a Sunday, that parking should be for restaurant guests who are going to spend a lot of money on food and drinks. They told us to park in a different parking lot and they will have a shuttle to bring us to the restaurant. The lot they tell you to park in is Tiny's No 5 so that lot is also packed. We ended up having to park in a random lot and prayed the car wouldn't get towed. They are extremely busy at brunch, take notes from literally every other nice place in Houston and hire a valet, don't be cheap. I would gladly pay to have a valet park my car versus parking in a random lot that's far away. After walking half a mile to the restaurant, you have to wait outside in the heat because it's counter service only at brunch. Which would be fine except they only had one person taking orders so we ended up standing in line for 30 minutes. Again, take notes from chick Fil a and have several people with iPads taking orders. Extremely frustrating to just have one person taking orders and seeing 4 other staff members just standing around picking their noses. We were told two different times to move while standing in line when we weren't even in the way. And the hostesses were snobby about it. We felt as welcome as a hamburger at a vegan convention. Then when we finally made it to the door, one of the hostesses rudely told us to close the door and continue waiting outside in the unbearable heat. Now I know what a pizza feels like on a conveyer belt oven. We finally sat down and ate our food. I ended up ordering another mimosa, which a waitress brought to me. As soon as she slapped it down on the table she asked for a "form of payment" (since you originally pay at the counter) instead of just bringing me a bill for the additional mimosa. And then they still expect you to tip an additional amount than what you already tipped at the counter, which is stupid since it's counter service. We were sitting there for less than an hour and a hostess asked us to leave our table and offered to sit us at the crowded bar because other people were waiting for tables. I understand that a lot of places have a 1.5 hour limit for tables, but we had barely been there an hour and had just finished eating. We declined to sit at the bar as we didn't feel like spending any more money at an establishment that clearly just wants to turn tables and is rude to customers. Forget about the car getting towed, they were about to tow us out of the restaurant. The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is because the food was very good and the atmosphere is great (unless you're being bullied every two seconds by their hostesses). The amount of times i was told to move you would think you're in prison waiting for food at the mess hall. Staff needs a major attitude check and they need to find a way to speed up the ordering process. The last thing someone wants to do is wait in line for 30 minutes and then be rushed out after barely being at their table for an hour. I know brunch is busy, but they probably need to dump the counter service and allow reservations. That way they can properly accommodate people and not kick out paying guests who have barely been there an hour. Just FYI we arrived at 11:48, sat down at 12:18, and were asked to move at 1:07. The staff here is vicious and will stop at nothing to intimidate you and throw you on the streets to turn a table. Also I never leave yelp reviews ever so this should tell you how horrific the experience was. I want so much to like this place. I enjoyed the tea very much, while I waited over an hour to be seated. I think I recall they do not do reservations? How does a restaraunt that is always busy and smaller than my dorm back in college, not take reservations? I love the concept. Eating outdoors but not under the threat of bugs....and even the inside area has a nice vibe to it. There were no prices which was weird, because most places list them. After you place order, you get a number on a stand and you seat yourself. Once I sat down, the waiter brought my order but no utensils. I asked my friends and told me it is at the counter near the water. I walked over and it was a bit cramped getting my utensil because another person was filling their water and the utensils were underneath them. WHERE TO PARK: My friends told me to park in the back and got there at 1:15 pm on a Sunday and there was plenty of parking. This is one of my favorite places to relax w/ a white peach sangria and eat their house migas. Chocolate chip cookies are also freshly made. I've also tried their mid-day pizza specials and they are good as well with the egg on top. Don't be intimidated by the long line, it actually does move pretty fast as the table turn-around is pretty quick. I came here for Sunday brunch with friends and quite enjoyed the atmosphere. I ordered the migas and fresh orange julia which I enjoyed, but kind of regretted that I did not get mint lemonade which was refreshing and refillable! The only complaint I have is having to wait in line outside in hot weather the time I went. The restaurant was nice that it offered some complimentary mint lemonade but still it was a long wait for a while. Parking can also be difficult to find as they have parking lots that are quickly filled. Best bet is to see if customers are leaving and then wait for their spot. It's definitely a higher priced menu so expect to pay a little more for a smaller portion dish but the place offers a classy, relaxing setting to enjoy some nice time with friends or family. read more

I have been here three times for brunch and each experience has been lovely. Try to arrive early or you'll be waiting quite awhile for a seat. Here's what I like about TB: 1. The chocolate chip cookies are ON POINT here. Gooey, chocolate-y, warm, and that perfect combination of chewy and crunchy... Delicious! 2. The Mother's Breakfast is yummy! The house made sausage and jam really make this dish special. 3. The oven fired pizzas are fantastic as well. 4. It's super cute. Seriously love the outdoor garden seating area- especially when the weather is nice. Leashed dogs are permitted. Here's what I don't like so much: 1. There are no prices listed on the (beautiful) chalk drawn menu on the wall. Soooo your bill is basically a total crapshoot. 2. There's always a line. 3. Parking can be a pain! 4.
