My first time. Parking wasn't bad with street parking. There's a small lot on back, but the spots looked pretty narrow. The restaurant appears to consist of an original building plus an enclosed patio. Extra heaters are in the patio area, they even provide blankets. Liz was our server and she was simply amazing!!! Our experience started with a toast of champagne. It was very good, it was poured by their wine afficiendo. I had an old fashion, with a bourbon I had not heard of, but it was good. Tried the miso broiled oysters, they were so yummy. The menu was not huge, but it had several options I wanted to try. I decided to try something I've not seen on any menus, the beet gnocchi. Although the ambiance is a bit rustic the food and service are high end! I never knew how much I could love stroganoff until I met Tinker Street. The service was impeccable and although limited, there was an offering of creative cocktails that hit all of the right notes. My husband had the steak, with no regrets. Dinner was so impressive we felt obligated to try two desserts and although his peanut butter parfait was tasty, my ricotta donuts with ice cream latte was the better. We recently sat in for the Chef's Tasting... and all I can say is, wow!! We ordered drinks off the cocktail menu, which were delicious. You can do this experience with a wine pairing, which we didn't, but I'm sure that would make it even better. They also carry several NA options for beer, wine, and mocktails. I've attached the menu and photos of each course. If you don't like the items on this menu, don't worry; the Chef's Tasting menu is never the same twice, and always centered around what's seasonally fresh and available. Each course was delicious and each dish was somehow better than the last! With multi-course menus like this, I often fill up too fast for dessert, but the portion sizes added up perfectly to a big, satisfying meal. The executive chef came out to the table with each course and explained the ingredients, flavors and cooking techniques. He was kind, knowledgeable, and took the time to answer our questions. He very clearly loves his job (and it shows in his cooking)! The servers were accommodating when we had to start late, and never made us feel rushed, which we appreciated. The space was clean, pretty, and free of flies and bugs, even though we sat outdoors. All in all, we had an awesome experience. Our first trip to Tinker Street was pretty amazing. The first thing we noticed was how attentive and knowledgeable the staff is. Like, every server, hostess, sommelier, and busser. Every single staff member knew their role well. I ordered the beet gnocci, and loved it. The sauce was rich and savory and really hit on a cold windy night. The portion size was perfect so I felt full, but not uncomfortable. My dinnermates ordered the duck and the truffled sirloin and both were super pleased with their meaty choices. There were three of us enjoying dinner on a Wednesday night which meant one appetizer, three meals, a few drinks, and three desserts. Our total was over $300! Everything was delicious, but at that price point, it's not a place we can visit very often. read more

Tinker Street is a warm intimate experience, with incredible food. I made our reservation for 7 and was seated right as I arrived at that time. The host was cheerful and promptly, he didn't ask us our seating preference, but as always the restaurant was lively, and the seat he chose for us was great. It was on their covered patio, with warm blankets available on the back of the chairs since it was a cool fall night. Our waitress came over once she was available to pour our welcome bubbles and offer us the nightly specials. We both chose one of the specials. I cringed when I decided to have the burger ( not a regular menu item), but when it arrived it was much more fulfilling than your normal restaurant burger. The waitress recommended medium and it came with immense flavor and perfect plating. I've never had a bad food experience at Tinker. We also had the pleasure of meeting the pastry chef at tinker street, as she personally delivered our dessert options to us. My wife and I visited Tinker Street this week for her birthday. This was our 4th or 5th visit over the years. I'll start with the positive. The service is excellent. Our server was friendly and helpful as always, everyone we interacted with was great. My wife's entree, the mushroom stroganoff, which she has ordered before, was very good and a good-sized portion. We ordered two starters. The pork gyoza (3 for $21) were just okay. They weren't bad but not as good as other gyoza we've had. The sauce they were served with didn't add much. We also ordered the caviar & potato tacos. These were $35 but I thought, "When will I ever order caviar and potato tacos again?" The answer is never. So, I actually saw in the description they came in potato chip taco shells. Foolishly, I didn't realize a single potato chip held each taco. We got a plate of three potato chips with mashed potato and a little caviar in each. That's over $11 per potato chip. The potato flavor was nice, but that's all you can taste so I'd rather just hold off on the caviar and pay maybe $6 per chip. My entree was the sacchetoni en brodo, which was red wine pasta stuffed with short rib. This was delicious, but it was 4 small pasta dumplings in broth. This is in the "large plate" section but it would have been a okay-sized appetizer. The server told me it was a "light" entree, so I'll know what that means next time. Priced similarly to the potato chips at over $11 per small dumpling. Again, the short rib and broth were delicious. I should have ordered some bread to go with the broth. I'm not an accountant and I promise I don't usually do the math to calculate price per morsel, but I couldn't help it this time. And yes, I understand this is fine dining and I'm not supposed to walk away feeling like I just ate a Hoosier tenderloin and fries, but this seemed to take the small portion thing a bit far. With the potato tacos, especially, I almost felt like someone was pulling a practical joke and there were hidden cameras somewhere to catch our reaction. read more

Love the ambience of this place! It is a small and cozy seating arrangement but it's a lovely warm vibe as soon as you are seated. This is my second time her and we were here to celebrate a friend's birthday. The servers are really friendly and attentive and will make sure you are satisfied with your food. All the food we ordered tasted delicious. The duck was tender and cooked to perfection (medium rare). My friends were vegetarian and expressed the vegetarian food was on point as well. Holy cats this place was SO GOOD. Food was amazing - I had the steak dish and it was so so good. I ate off the other two folks plates who I was with and what they had was super good also (pork and I forget). Service was tip top. Friendly and attentive. Space is small but did not feel crowded. After not being able to eat at another place, I tried my luck at tinker street. In my opinion, it's positioned like a little hole in the wall but my oh my does it have upscale taste. The lovely bartender really sold me on one of the specials of the day (it was a Wednesday) which was an Italian club sandwich with arugula salad and unlike any Italian club I've ever had. It starts with a thick cut slice of salami and then is butterflied with a special thinly sliced bratwurst on top. Remaining is a pesto arugula paste and pieces of mozzarella. Sandwich was so good I'm going again tomorrow. The arugula salad is paired perfectly which has a tasty dressing and some type of sun dried tomato which made me believe I was eating meat at first. We should count ourselves lucky that Tinker Street emerged triumphant from the pandemic. Like many things in the world, Tinker Street has evolved through challenges, but appears to be firing on all cylinders under owner Tom Main and Executive Chef Tyler Shortt (and a long list of talented professionals that can be found on the website: https://www.tinkerstreetrestaurant.com). The small but mighty restaurant is a blazon of sorts with warm lighting beckoning you to enter at the corner of 16th Street and New Jersey Street. Once inside, the comforts and service come to life. Little details like seat cushions and a complimentary champagne toast add a special something. While the various accoutrements are lovely, the flavor and presentation of the dishes are vivid - reflecting a menu bursting with colors of the season. We started with the soup d'jours (purple sweet potatoes, parsnips, pepitas, cayenne, fried garlic, golden syrup glaze) and oysters (ahi pepper, pearled apple, bed of salt). We followed that up with mushroom tempura and a beautiful sashimi served on top of apple slices. The showstopper was the beet gnocchi - simply put, it's opulence on a plate. A close second was the mushroom stroganoff, which Tinker Street patrons have enjoyed since the restaurant's inception. We closed with espresso served with biscotti and ice cream. Be sure to check out the thoughtful seasonal cocktails and the carefully curated wine list (we picked a 2020 Chablis (French Chardonnay) with a softer mouth feel, hint of fruit, mineral complexity, and just enough acid to gorgeously complimented each dish). Strawberry Rhubarb Soup - 4/5. The daily special (which is always vegan). Yogurt heavy but works really well as a soup with the bright fruit flavors. A balsamic like sauce, crystallized basil and and surprising heat elevates. Chocolate XS Cake - 4/5. XS must not mean extra small because the portion is huge. Decent cake, heaps of nice cocoa nibs, mint ice cream that doesn't quite hit the mark. Lemon Cappelletti - 3.5/5. Pasta is filled well with delicious flavor. But the broth is terrible, it tasted like barely flavored water. I'm hoping it was a mistake. Sorbet trio - 3/5. Great deal for only $6, but a massive portion and only OK sorbet. Curried Cauliflower Steak - 2/5. Great date chutney. But the cauliflower appeared steamed and overly so, falling apart. Also unerseasoned. The curry sauce on the side was OK. Hamachi - 2/5. Tinker Street is one of those special spots that you notice and immediately add to your bucket list. From the road, it looks like a tiny house, completely lit up with twinkle lights. It's swanky, humble and cozy, all at the same time. They weren't open yet, but we were still able to get a reservation on Yelp without having to call, which was incredibly convenient. Good to know for the future! When they did open later that day, the host called to confirm the reservation which was nice. We showed up and got sat on the covered patio (it's still plenty warm in the winter-- complete with full heat and blankets). I loved the twinkle lights out there, but the only reason I knocked off a star was that the tables were SO close together that I could hear the conversations on either side of me more than I could hear my husband (I almost couldnt hear him and we're still young). We were also up against the hostess stand and kept leaning so servers could even get through the tables. The food though? The food is incredible and great quality. I got the Great Lakes Walleye, something I would never get usually. I knew that if anyone could make it well, Tinker could, so I tried walleye for the first time. They put the fish on a plate of lentil beans that had been cooked in bacon, and had bits of apple around the dish; two things that I love. The walleye itself was cooked well and I ate every bite. They also had four local beers on tap, so I got a Big Lug ale to go with my meal and it's fun that they start everyone's meal off with a mini glass of champagne. Our server was nice too. read more

I was here for a conference, and wanted a dinner that wasn't a chain or a steakhouse and found this gem on Yelp. When we arrived, we were greeted with a mini toast of prosecco. Jen was the best server ever. She guided my group through the menu and her recommendations were great. Also, she got into the silliness of my group and really added to the vibe of our dinner. A+++ to Jen (from your favorite group of "doctors"). The food was slanted towards Korean inspired dishes in a very unique (and tasty way). I'm attaching some photos. Found this when looking for a farm to table option. Idk how much is farm to table, I do wish there was more info on ingredient sourcing as it's always impressive to hear when a restaurant/staff can educate where everything was sourced from. The menu seems to be thought out. It's not a bunch of ingredients tossed together because it sounds cool on paper. The ingredients complement each other and play well together. Super impressive tinkering with flavor profiles going on in the kitchen. Speaking of, we sat in view of the kitchen. They run a well oiled machine back there and they looked effortless as they churned out dish after dish. This is clearly a staff that knows what they're doing. We had the Brussels sprouts (which are addicting), Galbijjim Cappelletti (short rib was cooked perfectly), sirloin (jalapeño lime gastrique can't put into words). Even the cocktails were superb and well thought out. It's great to know that the menu will change and will have so many more reasons to visit. Avoid sitting at the bar if you can though. It was a nice experience being waited on by our knowledgeable bartender but it was an uncomfortably stuffy situation. read more

This was our second visit since Chef Braden left Tinker Street for other opportunities. He will do well. The quality of what's created in that small kitchen remains of the highest caliber. The new chef has his game on as well, combining fresh ingredients and spices to create unique flavors and plating an artistic masterpiece. The service as managed to stay on point despite the labor shortages. Dining in the patio area on a cold winter night is very comfortable. Cozy and bright, but not too hot. Roasted carrots were amazing. My wife had a broccoli and curry dish which she loved and was quite selfish in sharing. You would think I would venture into unknown territories for an entree, but it seems that Tinker Street and shrimp and grits is a combination I can't get away from. And the dish remains true perfection. Bottom line is this proves to be the same TINKER STREET we have come to love. A big thank you to Tom for keeping it alive. Came to tinker street on my birthday to grab a yummy meal. This place is pretty cutesy with lights and nice romantic atmosphere, which was perfect since I was with my boyfriend! Once we were seated we ended up ordering: * tacos with tofu - this was the boys dish and he thought it was okay * pork belly - this was crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. I really liked it. I wish the rice stuff on the bottom was softer though, it would've been more enjoyable to eat * ricotta donuts with expresso ice cream - one of the best desserts I've had, I'd go back just for this Overall good experience, but one thing I was disappointed about was they never wished me even though it was my birthday, which we mentioned. SPECIAL EVENT REVIEW!: My friends and I went here for a private event on Sunday benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I had never been here before, but rest assured that I will totally be going back. The wait staff was 12/10 and the food was amazing! It was a multi-course meal with each course having its respective drink pairing. They had their Sommelier and Executive Chef come out with each course and introduce what it was and spoke to each flavor and its complimentary drink pairing. I know that since this was a private event, it did not have items for their day-to-day menu, but I do want to speak to their wait staff and their kitchen staff. These people worked together to provide an amazing experience for the attendees and I am so grateful that I was able to go! Yes this is my third time here and yes I'll be back. You get free champagne as you enter and the waiters know their stuff and are very kind. I loved the strawberry rhubarb appetizer with blue cheese. I never would have thought to make that combo but wow! It was a special so get it before it's gone. They are also known for their pork belly! It's always on the menu and it's over kimchi and black rice topped with an egg!! Sooooo good per usual. The ricotta donuts are a must have! They come with expresso ice cream and they are warm as they melt in your mouth! You have to make a reservation online and early because it fills up quick! Went for the first time and it's super adorable. The table we got sat at was very tight quarters as I had to push my chair waaay in and still got bumped a few times. There is a small parking lot for about 8-10 cars at most and street parking easily accessible. The chicken and caviar is like a bougie chicken and waffles because it's placed on top of a pancake like thing. Very flavorful l. My dish mushroom stroganoff topped with sirloin steak was cooked to perfection and too many mushrooms. The ribeye was mouthwatering as well. The one bite I had was making me want to order a plate to go. Dessert was just like no other cake I've had. It was the pear and ginger, and it was full of spices and each bite was better than the last especially paired with vanilla ice cream! Great way to start my birthday celebrations. What an amazing and DELIGHTFUL experience! I decided to book a reservation for myself and my husband for my birthday here on Yelp. When we arrived, we were greeted by complimentary Prosecco. A fabulous gesture that will definitely be remembered. The appetizers were divine: we had cured tuna and oysters on the half shell. The tuna had different purées and sauces that were SO delicious, on both their own and together. The oysters had a strawberry salsa-type-of-thing, and normally I'd be like "hmmm weird strawberry and fish" but WOW it blew my mind. The cocktails were SO yummy. I definitely recommend the boozy hot chocolate. It was my birthday, so dessert was necessary. My husband had an apple cobbler that came in a cute tub, and I had the s'mores bar. I've been wanting to try this place for years so I finally decided to make a reservation for my birthday and wow, I'm glad I did. They have their own parking lot which is always nice when you're downtown. Right from the start, every employee was attentive, most even asking if it was our first time dining. They start out with a tiny glass of sparkling for every guest, free. I'd rather have that than free bread anytime. After that, I ordered the Purple Haze cocktail, which is honestly probably the best cocktail I've ever had. I'm not sure what they put on the rim but it's delicious. We had a hard time deciding on an appetizer but decided to go with the Fried Chicken and Caviar. The flavors in this dish, just wow. The jalapeño honey was one of my favorite parts. For an entrée, I went with the Mushroom Stroganoff and added short rib. My partner did the Mushroom Stroganoff and added pork belly. The waitress told us the short rib and pork belly both take 3 days to prepare, so it was an easy choice. This was probably the best stroganoff I've ever eaten, perfect amount of mushrooms. The short rib was so tender and had a beautiful flavor, and the couple bites I had of the pork belly were just as good! Upon being seated a sommelier came to our table with small glasses of champagne to introduce herself and help with any questions on the wine list. She helped me pick a great wine to go with my meal and super friendly! For our meals we got the Sakura pork belly which I loved and had so much flavor. Sometimes I don't love pork belly because it's too much fat but this dish had a substantial amount of meat and the sauce was a soy/Tamari tasting one that was great. Someone also got the burger and gnocchi which I didn't try but they both really enjoyed as well.
