Decided to meet up here with some friends after work, it's a great location! Several different selections of wine, and I consider everything there to be very reasonably priced! I love this sweet spot! It's locally-owned, small and intimate, and offers tons of wine options. It's also located on Mass Ave, a fun Indy street that boasts tons of restaurants, bars, and shops. You can order a glass or a bottle of wine, and the owner is happy to help you choose something you'd like. For the non-wine folks, you can also enjoy a local beer or cocktail. When I walked in the first time and saw a sign out front the read, "Wine is our Love Language" I knew I was going to like it. This is the diametric opposite of your huge liquor store. It has an intimate selection that has been curated by the owner Lisa. She hand picks every every thing she she brings in. As soon as you come I you are greeted warmly by her or her associate Amber. Super cute place and great location. I had high hopes for our first visit! Visited with my spouse evening of 11/8 and had a very disappointing experience. We arrived at 7:45PM and were being rushed the moment we walked in. We were the only customers there but didn't really get any meaningful information or help from the staff member there. The lone employee working there (not the owner) described them as "a white, a red, and a rose." That was it--she gave no other information until I asked what variety the red was. Strange for a place that specializes in wine. For our snack, we attempted to build our own charcuterie board but they were out of several items. The same employee called out what was in the refrigerator, so we managed to assemble a decent enough board to satisfy our hunger. The glasses of wine were also good, so that's why we give Mass Ave Wine 3 stars. But we probably won't be back. read more

You begin to realize all of the life and fun action that happens in a space when you no longer can have it. Mass Ave Wine is known for hosting tasting nights, mini massages, game nights and so on. It feels like your neighborhood bar with a little extra pizzazz. We often find ourselves here to pick up a quick bottle of wine or explore their Vermouth and mixer options. I've had this place on my radar as a spot to take one of my wine drinking friends, but for whatever reason, I had not made it in. So, I decided to stop by myself and check it out. The space is rather small with a wall of wine on the left, a display of bottled beverages (including spirits and beers) centered towards the front, and booth seating on the right. The order counter is just beyond the centered display with a chalkboard menu overhead. They have a small food prep area beyond the counter, so I waited as the lone employee prepared a charcuterie board for one of the other patrons. After the short delay, the employee greeted me and poured a flight of port wines for me: three 2 oz. samples. One, a lighter port was from France. I followed that with one from Portugal and ended with a fruitier California variety. I enjoyed them all as I sat at one of the tables (one side is a long padded bench while the opposite side is chairs.) Pleasant pop music played in the background as I relaxed, enjoying my wine. After a long day of taking care of my newborn.. my friends and I just wanted to grab some wine. We walked In, the service was dry and the owners weren't really knowledgeable about the wines. I think I am so used to having a wonderful time at Cooper's hawk that my expectations are high?! Maybe not. We felt rushed to order off the menu... probably because the lady was making herself a sandwich ( I get it.. you have to eat) but we finally found something and I ordered the red flight. The wine was horrible... watery and not good. My friend ordered the white wine and it was strange tasting. She actually had to order another glass of wine and that wasn't any better. The cheese and crackers platter was the best but I could have done that at home. Normally I give 4 or 5 stars if you look at my reviews however I was dissatisfied at the taste of the wine. Just a cozy little shop that's a great spot for unique wines and spirits. I'm no connoisseur, I just know what I like. While that can be hard to pin down in a big box store, here the staff is super knowledgeable about their products and happy to help with making a perfect selection. I've found several gifts and more than a few special bottles for myself, too. While the focus is definitely on wines, you'll also find spirits as well. One of my favorite discoveries was a wine aged in bourbon barrels. It's also a secret spot for a sip and sample because they also have wines available by the glass plus flights and a small food menu with charcuterie and such. It's not often busy so I love sharing a drink with friends in a quiet corner booth. So fun! read more

So many nice things to say about Mass Ave Wine. Let's start with the free wine tasting Tuesdays. 3 wines to taste for free, accompanied by a brief presentation about the wine by knowledgeable expert, and with an optional ($4) tasting plate consisting of 3 appetizers/ small bites (one per wine). Always thoughtful and delicious! Sometimes cheese and crackers, sometimes pasta, sometimes beef and crostini... It's whatever they concoct to compliment the wines, and always a delightful surprise! And don't worry if you're gluten free; you can tell them and they will whip up something modified for you. If you purchase any of the wines from the tasting ($12-$25) you receive 10% off. The ladies I've seen who work here are very helpful and knowledgeable. And the FOOD. Oh geeze, do not pass on the food. You may think a wine shop is only good as wine, but you would be wrong. The variety and options available are what sets this place apart from other local wineries. They have lots of special events that I've never attended but heard are great fun so that'll be on my radar in the near future. The prices are fairly moderate, but you get knowledge from the staff so that might add a dollar or more. I seem to always forget Mass Ave Wine Shoppe is nearby. It's a quaint, little shop with several wine and liquor options. They have a few beers available as well. I popped into Mass Ave Wine Shoppe on Halloween. They just so happened to have a candy bar/wine pairing, which consisted of a flight of 3 wines and 3 mini candy bars. Their chilled white wine selection has saved us in many last minute "should we bring some wine?" kind of moments on our way to friends' places. I feel weird now that I notice I gave this place five stars. I'm not going to revoke my prior five stars as it was an honest amount of glee over having a very particular need (Cider & Dogfish Head) and they didn't treat me as an absolute loon, but I have to say something: I really want to be treated as an equal. By friends. By strangers. By biz owners. Bartenders. Everyone. We are all equal. When I'm at Mass Ave Wine Shoppe, I feel looked down upon. Thus, something should change. Two stars: "I've experienced better." Three stars: "A-OK." I'm not A-OK on not being treated as an equal; but you have a choice between buying from a local purveyor or from... say... Marsh, choose this place. But it comes with an enormous caveat... There was an experience recently that I wasn't too fond of. We lingered and played bananagrams (hell yes to all folks who play bananagrams) over a bottle of wine for a couple hours. It felt like they didn't want us there. It was all just out of whack... you know when you feel like Venus is in retrograde? Like... "are we allowed to sit here?" "Is it okay if we laugh and have a good time?" A charming idea this place is. A charming addition to a charming part of town. A not so charming mood set. i want this place be to remarkable. I want this place to be where bottles of wine are sipped on late into the night, laughs are had, where street musicians show up -- a free place where free flowing wine & thought move into a new form of energy that is inspiring & creative, which is what wine in a good environment can do. Maybe I'm wanting something that's just not realistic. Maybe I'm the new guard of Indianapolis where we're laid back, open minded, casual about customs (and still polite). Be it as it may... the looks and vibes I was given didn't jive with what I'm down for, and it's highly likely that what I'm down for is what a down to earth plebeian is down for. This is a great little wine shop downtown! I've been here several times over the years. They have so many fun events, I recommend signing up for their email to be in the loop. Twice a year they have their big wine tasting event. They bring in 5-7 of their distributors who all set up a table with several wines. For $10 you can taste roughly 20-30 different wines, and they have lots of little snacks that pair nicely. Then if you buy one of the wines that's part of the event, it's 25% off. I LOVE this event! I've been 3 times and I've had a blast each time. They give you a sheet with all the wines to keep notes, and the distributors are knowledgeable and friendly. Great event to go with friends! On Tuesday's they have tasting nights. You can taste 3 wines for free and then for $4 they pair food with the tasting. The food is optional, but I highly recommend because they do a good job of pairing unique foods. I've enjoyed all the food I've tasted and it went well with the wine. The staff here are very helpful and knowledgeable about wine. I've gone in knowing some wines I like, and their recommendations have been good! The shop has a wall of wines of different types and from different regions. They also have a small selection of beer and other drinks. You can order food here and buy a bottle (some are pre-chilled) and enjoy either outside or inside. Highly recommend a visit! read more

Mass Ave Wine Shoppe (MAWS) has a great selection of affordable and unique wines. I went about a month ago for the grand opening of their cafe and loved the experience. The atmosphere is warm and the staff is very helpful and welcoming. You can buy wines by the bottle or glass, and the cafe offers a small but delicious selection of sandwiches, cheeses, meats and desserts. MAWS is also a good place to stop and pick up a specialty bottle of wine as a gift -- they even have a nice 'Evil' 'Bitch' duo for that someone special! I'm always looking for a place in town that has Greek wines for sale, and while MAWS didn't have what I wanted, they did offer to special order a case for me. I definitely recommend heading a little further north on Mass Ave to get to MAWS. Parking was easy the night I was there -- always a plus when you're downtown! After 5+ years in Indy and countless times walking up and down Mass Ave, only recently did I have my first experience at Mass Ave Wine, and I certainly see myself returning, repeatedly, in the future! I strolled in after a wedding on an early Saturday evening and was met by two very lovely and knowledgeable women. After gazing at their selection of dry reds (I'm a Malbec gal), they were able to help me narrow the choices down to what they thought I would enjoy most. I chose two bottles and decided, on a whim, to imbibe onsite along with a charcuterie board. From an array of options, I selected three varying cheeses - Dana Blue, St Andre Triple Cream, Double Gloucester - and prosciutto for $4 ea. After being sliced fresh, the items arrived with the addition of fresh grapes and crackers. The cheese, particularly the triple cream, was melt-in-my-mouth delicious and the effect was only heightened by the Malbec I was drinking. Unfortunately, the prosciutto was completely dried out as though it had been sitting refrigerated for too long. Upon arriving, the place was practically empty. But by the time I was ready to leave a couple of hours later, every table in the small shop was spoken for. This is a fantastic location to find an enjoyable bottle of wine, take a date or have a girl's night out. The ambiance and staff make this a place I look forward to returning to. read more
