Tin Fish is one of my go to locations. Their fish is always fresh and tasty. Tonight, the Ahi tuna appetizer was less than stellar, but the grouper and cod that we had for dinner was on par with other great meals we have had there. Let's call it an off night for the tuna. This is easily the best place in the Plantation. Sunrise area for fresh seafood. My wife and I went in and had an excellent time. The owner is super friendly, the food is super fresh, and it's a great dining experience. It is a little pricey but worth the cost. Shrimp and grits were delicious served piping hot. I had the grilled dolphin over a bed of sweet crunchy coleslaw drizzled with a tartar hot sauce that was very good. Highly recommended. read more

On the advice of an friend that works there, I couldn't help but notice the reviews from her Facebook page. Maya, the server was excellent! While tempting me with the specials, I had my mind already decided and chose the Fishermens combo. Since I had it to go, generally many restaurants close and seal the box causing French fries to be soggy. Well, not this one. Everything in the box was tasty and perfect! Maya was very prompt and kind. I love the cod and shrimp. A bit skimpy on the clam strips and the amount of fries was generous! Definitely will be coming back! read more

They let us sample all of the soups to choose and they all were amazing!! The fisherman's platter and shrimp and clams all were amazing! Great food!! Had dinner last night @ our favorite place to get fish. Love sitting @ the bar or a table inside or out! Last night we sat @ the bar lots of good conversation with the warm & friendly staff & other diners! Now to the food....we had a couple of appetizers and an entree shared tapas style. It's a fun way to eat and tin fish has so much to choose from on their menu. We had grouper ceviche, a couple of crab cakes and poached snapper with sautéed veggies. Each item was perfection so it's hard to say that one was better than the other! Note: I've previously written a review as my husband and I normally love Tin Fish. Im not sure if it's because we went on a Monday or what the deal was but we were disappointed. We ordered appetizers and then 3 grilled groupers. Waited about 20 minutes and we see them bringing our entree but we still hadn't gotten our appetizers. Pretty sure our entrees were taken in the back and stuck under the heat lamp. We finally got our appetizers, delicious as usual. Then promptly our entrees. 2 were missing side items, 2 were missing the shrimp we paid extra for and the veggies were cold. Our waitress did apologize however that was the end. I've worked years in food service and at the very least would have comped a drink or even an appetizer. Again chalking this up to a Monday and will give it another shot. read more

So disappointed. I bragged to my boyfriend how wonderful my lunch was at Tin Fish. He was reluctant, because of the location but agreed to go. The staff was very welcoming and described the Garlic Clam Pot as the ideal appetizer. I was so excited because the Mussels for lunch were so yummy. Unfortunately, the clam sauce had a lot of lemon juice and not much garlic flavor. I ordered the Tuna which was to die for, but my boyfriend's Grilled Snapper was very bland. There was also a $2.00 up charge for the Caesar salad he chose as a side dish, which was delivered with his entree and the additional charge was not explained until the check came. Then we couldn't agree on the berries for the Zabione and the chef agreed to split the portion, but added another $2.00 surcharge. They did not use more Zabione custard, if anything my boyfriend's portion did not cover all the berries. The worst was when my boyfriend reminded the waitress that she forgot his decafe coffee after the check came. She was smug, said she didn't forget and was brewing him a new pot. She took his credit card and when she brought him his coffee she also handed him a new check with a charge for the coffee. The meal cost almost $100 and the atmosphere, service and taste of the food unfortunately did not justify the price. read more

Avoid at all costs. It's a scam! The waitress suggested the special, said the whole fish was excellent, but neglected to mention it was $42 and huge! I felt like a huge rat was placed before me. It was disgusting and overwhelming. If you are going to suggest something, then you should disclose all pertinent information. Riesling was flat and dry--disgusting. I ordered french fries that never came. My husband ordered the combo and it was half decent--too much fried food. I left hungry and disappointed. No tip for the server, but service from the rest of the staff was actually decent. Thank you. We did tell the waitress this was our first visit, and she apologized after I admonished her that she should be clear about the size/price. She offered to bring the manager and I declined. I heard about this place and heard great things so we went to try it out. My rating was based on the value of what I received for what I paid. We started with the so called "best on the planet" Fish Dip and for $18 appetizer I'm expecting a good size portion that will fill us up and taste amazing. When the small ice cream scoop size portion came out, I already wasn't happy. Felt I got robbed for what they charged and what I got. Compared to other fish dips I've eaten, this was just okay. Nothing special nor close to being the best on the planet! Next I got the Combo platter of fried Cod, Shrimp and Claim for $22 and this had a decent portion of food. The fries we cold first time they came out and the second batch that came was hot but they were mushy fries. The platter also was okay but nothing that blew me away. For a restaurant in Sunrise their prices are prices you pay for a restaurant on the beach that serves amazing food that you leave saying to yourself "that was worth it". I can't say they same about Tin Fish. Food was okay but not at their prices. They did practice social distancing and I felt safe eating there. The Service was good and friendly. read more

I went here last night following Yelp reviews near my hotel. I grabbed a seat at the bar and waited... and waited. Two customers cancelled drink orders and closed their tabs without food yet still I waited because I had taken an Uber and didn't want to pay to try another spot. After about 10 minutes, the bar tender acknowledged me and took my drink order. Ten minutes later, no drink. He forgot. When I ordered my food, I re-ordered my drink, and got it promptly. The first to come out was the cherry stone clams. I was in a bit of a bad mood and didn't want to like them, but they were AMAZING. They were fresh, meaty, and delicious. After my clams, I ordered another drink. Forgotten again... halfway through my entree, I re-ordered my drink and got it quickly. The fried shrimp were a bit heavily breaded for my taste, but were large, fresh, and delicious. Overall, I counted 7 employees for a small restaurant with maybe 8 tables. The oldest employee (except the owner) was maybe 25. I honestly hope the employees stick around a while and learn how to serve. With decent service, the food is 4.5 stars easy. The food looks unique and interesting, I'd apmost like to come back and try again, but I just can't get over how tiny the place feels, and the uncomfortable metal chairs. Also there is definitely no great view if you sit outside. It's a crowded parking lot. The atmosphere felt like I was eating in a cheap fast food place. I got the fried fish and fries. It was decent. I work evenings so I tend to enjoy my 1 night off dinner it's Tuesday and there's only 3 tables, I'm good for a whole meal, ordered the clams casino cause my very nice server said they were great. 20 minutes later she tells me they don't have the clams for that app. So I had to order the cherry stone clam app. So another 20 minutes later I still have no app still , again I asked are they coming, NO Clue, so I tipped her and left. Just picked up an order and it was below anyones standards. Paid 25.00 for one meal and it looked like the children platter. The children shrimp platter had more food . A complete rip off. Tried to call and no one will answer the phone. A one point someone picked up the call and just put it on hold and never came back. My husband and I went last Saturday night and we loved our food and our server Charisse! I had the extra blackened salmon on a Caesar salad and I ate every single bite. My husband had the fish and chips and he loved it as well. Our server Charisse was phenomenal, very informative and very attentive. Went there on a strange whim Saturday Night. While looking for a specific type of cherries used in Old Fashions a local liquor store told me that the specific brand they sold was the same ones used at The Tin Fish restaurant in Sunrise. So my wife and I decided to check it out. What a great decision. The Chef/Owner is right there, whether shucking oysters or preparing fresh grilled swordfish. All the fish is right there before your eyes. Fresh and local. We had some oysters, fisherman's platter, and a fish taco. Neighboring patrons ordered the whole snapper teriyaki, which looked and smelled amazing. Finally found a local place for great fresh seafood. Finished off dinner with the best and lightest carrot cake that we've ever had. Staff was friendly and attentive. Great vibe from the moment we arrived. Highly recommend and will be back soon and often. read more

What wasn't right was for them to charge us an up charge fee on a sandwich to go which is normally $11.95. $3 up charge because they were "running low" on Mahi when they close in 5 minutes. His was my second time at the restaurant. The first time I went with my mother and it was ok. I brought my girlfriend here because we wanted some seafood. We got there and it was a 10 min wait with open tables. No problem! The problem was when we waited forever to order our food. Another family came 30 min after us and received their food before us. The most horrific experience. Been there before, met Joseph who's always very attentive. Today I went to have some lobster in the afternoon, they were out I can understand. Then I asked the bartender for a recommendation between the 3 conch appetizers picked the one she recommended, they were out as well. Then I asked for a glass of Diatom Chardonnay, they were out as well. She recommended the ceviche so I took her advise. It took 30+ minutes before I was served, once served she told me the chips would be there shortly. Guess what, I finished a small bowl of ceviche without the chips which came 5 minutes after I finished and the dish was taken away. Then it took another 20+ minutes for my second course the drunken clams & mussels to arrive which never happened. Asked for the check and left. My drinks were comped but that is besides the point. I was still charged for a lousy cup of ceviche. Bartender was apologetic and I left her a tip, since it wasn't her fault. No manager at any point. What a lousy operation when Joseph is not around. Will never go back. I'm in the business and I understand the situation with staffing but there is no excuse Joseph Melluso. This experience was a 5 stars minus. read more

Oh where to begin. Maybe I will start with the gag-provoking margaritas that tasted like iced lime juice. Or maybe with the 30 minute wait to even get the atrocious drinks. Then Tin Fish decided to show some hard work by having the chef and owner bring out our second round of drinks (obviously we chose beer and simple mixed drinks, can't mess that up right?). It was a kind gesture of him, but then when he asked if there was anything else he could help us with my friend asked when our food would be out because we had been waiting over an hour. Get this- he seriously points across the street to the McDonalds across the street and said go over there if you want faster food. That was the OWNER! Don't even get me started on the food quality. Granted, I know I got a burger at a seafood place so I shouldn't expect it to be a hit BUT, this patty was pre-frozen and pre-cooked, and to top it off they forgot the bacon and cheese because they "ran out" but still managed to try to charge me for it. The rest of the food like the fish sandwiches my friends told me were bland and cold. Service took forever. Honestly will never in my life return to this place or recommend it to anyone. And, I guarantee if health enforcement went in there they would get shut down. Overall, this would be a great establishment for John Taffer- although I don't even know if he could rescue this one. read more

Actual rating 3.5. After eating five times I have come to realize one important fact. The quality of the food and service is determined on if the Joe the owner is there. Case in point: Went in for dinner and there was a beautiful flounder on the ice bar. I asked if I could order it for dinner. The reply was that flounder was the lunch special. I said no big deal I'll just have it sautéed in butter, I'll pay market price for it. The reply was sorry there's no one here to cut it....What? I asked where Joe was.....he's out of town was the reply. So I asked what kind of oysters were available..the reply....Blue somethings and another type. Sheesh....really? Waited forever for a second beer.....entrees came before the cornbread app. Two times we were there and Joe wasn't.... Other visits (when Joe was there) were a joy. Great food good service. 2nd time there... What a terrible experience... Went there for My birthday Lunch with my husband . Ordered some crab soup. Abit too salty & Came to us luke warm.. Ordered our entrie waited about 40 minutes with no attention from the waitress. If your over whelmed or the kitchen is backed up say something. Do something! Really reflects poorly on the resturaunt When the order arrived our order was placed in front of us, then the waitress told the server who brought it that that didnt belong to us. She then took the meals from us & gave them to the people next to us who, happen to arrived after us. After they inspected the food with their hands, the complained that it wasn't theirs. Consquently the waitress placed the meals in front of us. NO THANK YOU! We paid for our soup & left. I read the reviews and decided to go with my family. We had a great time starting our meal with some craft beer and a sloppy fish entree. It was absolutely delicious!! We then ordered a whole fish to share as an entree with the Asian sauce made with soy sauce and ginger. All we left were the bones as it was phenomenal!! To be fair, food is good as always. What's disappointing is how you are forced to get what comes with the dish. Otherwise you are going to pay a lot more. My daughter is allergic to fish so we got her the chicken and we asked to substitute regular fries for sweet potato fries. Wound up paying $19.00 for a plate of grilled chicken and sweet potato fries. Again quality of food is good but don't go outside the box making substitutions like veggies instead of fries or different fries cause you're going to pay a ton more. The whole platters menu comes with fries. So unless you are willing to pay a lot then that is what you are stuck with. read more

In an area full of pizza places, sports bars and mediocre chain restaurants, Tin Fish is a welcome addition. With its seafood specialties and decor, and its casual atmosphere (most dishes are served in plastic baskets lined with faux newspaper), the place fills a niche. We enjoyed our shrimp, salmon and bisque. Service was also friendly and attentive, and the place seems popular. But there were some shortcomings. The salmon was pretty bland, tasting more like farm raised than wild caught. Perhaps a more local fish like snapper would be better. Also, some items were heavily salted, including the fries. Ordering them with no seasoning is a better option. And while the one-man band outside is a nice touch, his choice of music standards for 90 year-olds doesn't fit the clientele, which is about half that age. When in the mood for fish there's not a better restaurant in town. My 10 year old loves going there because they let her pick out what fish they will cook for her. The cornbread and fish dip are a must!!!! Also have an amazing berry dessert!!! read more

This place is fantastic. We went with a large party and tried almost everything. The tuna poke was hand down my favorite. But the mermaid martini and the soups were all amazing as well.
