The atmosphere feels super cozy and homie, like an old fisherman's bar, with fish all over the walls that really give the place character. There are not many parking spots in front, but the restaurant has someone who will direct you to places where you can leave your car. The dining room is very large and plain and not at all fancy. Our server was polite but she forgot to order my appetizer and didn't provide the separate checks that we requested. We all had versions of the all-you-can-eat scallops. And we never got a second plate because the first one was filled with about a dozen or more large ones. And no matter what special you get, you are allowed some catfish with it. So, of course, we each had a fillet. It was the best part of the meal. While the scallops were decent, we were not fans because they were fried, and a bit dry. The fried catfish was crunchy but flavorful. As to the sides, the cole slaw is good. The collard greens were average. The baked sweet potato was very mushy, and the French fries needed to be crisper. The hush puppies were addictive. If you like large or plentiful portions, add a star, because your belly will surely be full. I couldn't finish my scallops or the extra piece of catfish that I had requested. And you're not allowed any doggie bags with the all-you-can-eat offers. I was really looking forward to trying the stone crabs here because I was told they arrive fresh every morning. However, the ones I was served were very disappointing--the meat was hard and not tender at all. From my experience, fresh stone crabs should have soft, flavorful meat, and this was clearly not the case. This wasn't my first time eating stone crabs, so I know what they are supposed to taste like, and I was honestly surprised by how poorly these were prepared. It really felt like the freshness and quality promised were not met. On top of that, the service was very bad. The staff seemed inattentive and unhelpful, which made the overall experience even worse. When visiting a restaurant known for its seafood, I expect both the food and the service to be up to standard, and sadly, neither met expectations this time. From the moment we walked in , and our friendly Hostess Patricia greeted us, I knew it would be great! As soon as you sit down, they greet you with excellent Hushpuppies and Coleslaw! The Fried Green Tomatoes are so good.... I started off with the fried green tomatoes, can you say perfection! Seasoned just right and then fried to a golden brown. I ate all of them. Then I ordered the all you can eat crab special 60$ which came with hush puppies which were delicious and good cole slaw. Honestly I hate leaving bad reviews. But I feel like it's my duty to warn other people about this restaurant. Please keep in mind, I did not get the catfish. I'm sure that's what they're known for. I got Florida lobster tails ($50), and I asked if they could steam it or boil it? Their response (after checking with the kitchen) was they didn't know how to do that, and they can't guarantee it would come out good. So I ordered it broiled (their recommended way of ordering it). This is an older well established family owned restaurant that is popular for their All You Can Eat seafood platters. You can get stone crab legs, shrimp, catfish among other. I didn't go for the AYCE menu but tried their Catfish made in different ways. The bone in fried catfish had a stronger taste than I was expecting but their breaded filet tasted great. It came with tartar sauce but my server Philip read my mind, I guess, and got me a Cajun sauce as well. The Cajun sauce was made in house and you could tell. I had a 12 oz catfish off their lunch menu and it came with coleslaw, hush puppies and an extra side of your choice. I opted for collards and it was really good. After reading some of the reviews of their veggies (esp green beans) I had really low expectations but collards was done well. It had bacon bits and the little sugar that was added cut the bitterness of collards. The free hush puppies were decent too. The music didn't really appeal much to me. It was a bit loud and not necessarily something that you want to sit long and relax. Maybe it was on purpose considering the AYCE offerings. Service, however, was super prompt. Philip was attentive and great to talk to. The restaurant has parking in the front, side and in the back as well but looks like it gets full pretty fast. I had two piece catfish with fries and a side of Mac and cheese. To say it was disappointing is an understatement. The fries were cold and the fish was bland. The Mac and cheese tasted bland as well. In my opinion, I probably would never come back. Based on the reviews I expected a lot more in the flavor department. However the hush puppies are definitely good. I'm not gonna lie, when my sister recommended going to Catfish Dewey's, I stuck my nose up as if I am too good to go there. Why do you ask? Because on the outside it doesn't really look like much. Actually, going inside doesn't really look like much either. It is stuck in time, and I think that is their niche. We went in the middle of a work week, and it was already full so we're thinking - there must be something to this. We had the stone crabs, they were amazing. I still love the AUCE snow crab nights. Right now they are served on Sunday and Thursday for All you can eat Alaskan Snow Crab Legs $69.99 ($65.99 on Sundays & Thursdays). They just keep bringing them until you can't eat anymore - and they are always HOT with butter. I really like the corn hush puppies and cole slaw. I don't eat anything else as it fills me up - and that means less crab to me. I also like the Lunch Shrimp -$15.99 - 1/2 lb. of large fried shrimp with hushpuppies and cole slaw and a side. We don't eat slaw and I felt bad that two portions went to waste.) The food was very good and the prices were excellent for the quality and quantity of food. The grilled scallops were great quality, had a nice hard sear, and were nicely seasoned. The only reason I cannot give it five stars is that the entire place needs a good scrubbing. Two people ordered the all you can eat snow crabs, two others ordered the shrimp and grits and oh my that looked so good. I ordered the stone crabs. I ordered the 2 pounds medium stone crabs and the others ordered fried catfish. At that moment they ran out of baked potatoes so we decided to wait the 15-20 minutes for them to be done. Everyone loved their food and the service from Joy. I have to say a little extra about the stone crabs. The size was perfect and what I expected. The freshness was a if they had just got them in. Once tasting that complimentary offering, I knew my meal was going to be awesome. And, it was. The hush puppies were warm and fresh tasting but I wasn't a fan of the Cole slaw. It didn't have much flavor but I also had never had it before so maybe it's just me. I came across this establishment again by mere accident on Saturday night. My family and I were served by Ashley who was polite and prompt to take our order. We had the stone crab because everyone seemed to have ordered it! They were fresh and full of flavor, unlike the ones you get at Billy's. We also ordered the seafood boil. It was delicious! It is dark and brown inside just like the outside paint. It is an easy restaurant to find. It is located at corner and it's brown. The parking is a little limited. It is a busy place and a favorite place for the locals. They had daily specials. I ended with the snapper filet. It was very good. I got a side of onion rings which they make good here. I recommend the fish. It was good. The stone crab's claws were excellent and a good size. One nice thing about this place is the hush puppies. They are served with every meal.
