I love this floor! Really easy to clean too.
    Madeline M.

I was having my bathroom remodeled so I visited a lot of tile stores in the East Bay, I think it was 6 or 7. The first time I went to Tileshop, no one greeted me. There were a lot of customers there at the time and all the agents were busy. It was a weekend. It didn't bother me because I was just looking and trying to decide what I wanted for the bathroom floor. I walked all around for about 20 minutes and left, no one said a word to me and that was fine. At that point, I didn't have any questions anyway and I don't like sales people that are pushy. After going to so many shops I decided I wanted ceramic tile that looks like wood. There were so many varieties at all these stores. My contractor told me some of it is bumpy and hard to clean. I remembered one at this shop that I really liked and it was pretty smooth. I went back on a weekday, it was less busy and there were several sales reps who answered my questions. They had a pretty large area of the tile I liked on the floor, it looked kind of grey to me. But they offered to give me a sample and that was more taupe. Turns out the batches vary. It is inkjet printed on porcelain. I brought the sample home and checked out how it would look. Decided I loved it and went back to buy it. The sales rep was very nice and the great thing is they have most of their tile in stock, the warehouse is right there. Most of the other shops I went to had to order their tile. At the warehouse, they gave me an extra tile, no charge. Turns out we didn't need it but that was nice of them. I'll return it now that the bathroom is finished. Check out the photo, looks great. My contractor thought it was some of the nicest of this variety that he had worked with. I agree, the pieces vary, a lot of the cheaper stuff is the same pattern printed on every tile, looks fake. You can see, these vary so it looks like real wood.

Such friendly, helpful, non-pushy folks here! We came looking for tile to re-do our fireplace, but discovered they specialize more in bathroom/kitchen tiles and didn't have the decorative stuff we were looking for. Nonetheless, we browsed and the owner told us about the best type of tile for our specific project. Even though he didn't have what we needed, he was happy to point us in the right direction and refer us to another shop in SF. It was educational, at the very least! We walked away with warm fuzzy sentiments for this place and their staff - it's rare when someone takes the time to help, even when there's nothing in it for them. For such generosity and altruism, a solid 4 stars. Especially true if you're looking for bathroom/kitchen tiles. They seem like real nice, honest folks to work with.

Creamish tile on top and edge of hearth came from here. Works perfectly with the stone.

Display is organized and customer service is excellent. Plenty of parking spots. They don't sell Made-in-China products.

I wish I got more updates during construction but they sent them whenever I asked. I liked that they were very contentious about talking with my neighbor when their van was blocking a little bit of their driveway--a lot of contractors wouldn't bother. I also had another neighbor who was causing some issues and they kept me in the loop, which I appreciated. - Price: I talked to several contractors and their price was pretty reasonable--not the lowest nor the highest, more in the middle. Cons: - After construction, I noticed some damage on parts that were supposed to be protected. They were minor damages, but annoying. The most noticeable one was a dent on my TV, which left a white dot that I see every time I turn on my TV, which sucks. - In terms of details, I noticed that there were some dings in pretty noticeable parts of the wood. I don't know if it was the crew or the wood came like that, but when I was testing a wood sample before purchasing, I hit the wood with a hammer and it didn't leave a mark, so it would take a lot of force to leave a dent like the one pictured. Kinda disappointing because the dent is smack in the middle of a high traffic area. Some last notes: - David came by to do a final walk through and helped me move some of the heavier furniture back. It didn't bother me but if you're expecting furniture to be put back the way it was originally, you'll want to manage your expectations. - You should definitely hire painters and cleaners after the construction--I didn't think the walls were going to be as scuffed up as they were. And everything will be superrrr dusty, even if it's covered. - When I expressed concern about not all baseboards being replaced, which I thought was the scope of work, he explained that he told his crew to use existing baseboards when possible. He said he did this to save me some cost and offered me $150 to cover the savings. I generally feel positive about this, although if I hadn't mentioned it I don't think it would've come up, so take that for what it's worth.

The original floor wore out and we opted to replace it using Flooring Alternatives once again. We chose a 12x12 solid cork floor. The replacement process has ended up with a poor quality installation, not worthy of the price. --There are uneven tile edges in numerous places that are noticeable when your shoe or foot catches. These raised edges will break off at some point. --There are gaps at the edges by the cabinets. --There are numerous places where 4 tiles meet and are off center. Mari's installer Fito returned to inspect the floor at our request and reported the problems to Mari. Mari came out to look for herself and was unable to figure out what or why. She promised to contact the manufacturer of the floor and adhesive. She has not responded in months. I've sent emails, texts and left voice messages. I will be filing a small claims suit shortly because I have no alternative so long as she is unwilling to respond. I think Mari was nearing retirement and working from her home when we hired her this year and may be out of business but her website is still up. I can post a dozen pictures if people are interested. Mari has them and knows very well the floor install is substandard.

I did a lot of research and found that Marmoleum (Forbo's linoleum brand) is eco-friendly, made with non-toxic materials and also feels wonderful beneath bare feet. We decided on White Chocolate which has flecks of real cocoa hulls embedded in the material. It is a light-coloured shade to keep the kitchen looking bright and clean. Some people might choose a floor that hides the dirt, but with this colour floor you can't get away with that. It really helps keep me on my toes for keeping the floor clean. Fito did an excellent job with demo and installation of our sheet marmoleum flooring. The underlayment has to be perfectly smooth and clean. Any dirt or bumps will eventually translate to the marmoleum. It was an all day job for him, but at the end of the day we felt very good about the install. It looks amazing with our new cabinets and after having lived with it for almost a year, there have had no issues with sweeping, mopping or cleaning. Despite the challenges with Covid, Mari and Keegan were great in communicating with us. Everything was timely and we did not experience any significant delays with shipping or installation. Much praise for everyone on the team!
