This is one of my favorite places to eat when I'm in the area visiting the boyfriend. This little cafe has both indoor and outdoor seating. We take the dogs once in a while and they are greeted by so many people! Between the boyfriend and I we have had a good portion of the menu and we haven't had anything bad. In fact, most of the dishes are quite good! It is a bit on the pricey side for salads and sandwiches, so head over to subway if you do not want to spend more than $10. Soba noodles and shrimp with ginger sauce is my favorite dish here. The pastrami sandwich is very flavorful. The meat is cooked perfectly. I recently just had the huevos rancheros with chorizo and this was the heaviest dish I've had here so far. I loved every bite of it! The burger here is also very good according to the BF. Their drinks are also pretty good, from their chai latte to their mint lemonade. This place is a true winner and the staff is very nice. read more

Fantastic new cafe in La Cresenta. There is very limited parking in on the side of the cafe but there is plenty of spots on the street. The location inside is very cozy. What I like is the outside area: which is split into 2 areas. The customer service is warm and friendly. The manager had told me that the coffee beans are unique in nature. They are one of very few number of cafes to carry the beans. The flavor is rich, I can tell you that much. I recommend the affaogato for desert. It is vanilla ice cream melted in rich coffee. Started my valentine date here for breakfast... seemed like this is the place for a good cup of coffee. walked in and grabbed a menu, starting looking what to order, looked up to the cashier staring at us not saying a word. felt awkward for a few minutes. Did not greet us, did not even ask if we need help. Being that its our first time here we were questioning ourselves if we needed to grab a table first to order.. instead i started by asking for 2 coffees, once i finished i looked back down to read what i was going to order for breakfast and i hear the total for the two coffees... i asked do we order food here or grab a table.. without saying anything but, what do you want. started ordering our breakfast, asked for no diary in either one since I am allergic.. made sure to say no butter, cheese, and any other form of dairy.. she seemed irritated when i cleared what i was trying to say. gave my card, charged the card and handed it over to me with a receipt. gave a number to my fiance and she went to grab a table. started walking away and she yells after me saying she forgot me to sign the receipt. so i signed and regretfully gave a 25% tip, started walking away and i hear her yelling again.. saying i forgot my number.. so i grabbed it and went to sit down.. went outside to join my fiance, with two numbers on one order. a few minutes of waiting we get a cup of coffee. they didnt know we ordered two, even though the receipt shows two cups. waited about 10 minutes and they bring out the food.. no coffee yet. asked about the coffee he said it will be out right away.. waited another 5 mins and we get a cup.. mentioned its a fresh brew and we got the first cup.. well the luke warm coffee didnt smell/taste freshly brewed.. had hint of burnt coffee beans. in the mean time we are eating and i take a few bites, and i notice a very strange taste, i thought it was butter. But thank goodness it wasnt, it was cheese instead. i open my omelette and its smothered with cheese. i walk in with receipt in my back pocket, the person behind the counter said they must have not noted while ordering... my receipt says no cheese and no diary. they quickly brought up a new one.. unfortunately my stomach started growling and the cheese was in my system.. i took some pills i have which i know isnt going to do anything.. besides getting bloated, my skin started to get irritated. well i left hungry...didnt enjoy my coffee.. and felt sick on valentines day. No one came to check on us after messing up our order twice. I will not visit this place again, and i will not recommend it to anyone. Waste of 35$ read more

Great neighborhood place but i agree with other reviewers, it is pricey. I've tried several dishes-soba noodle salad, pasta and sandwiches. They are good but nothing memorable definitely not crave worthy. Their pastries are great (they are from susina) but then again, charging $6 per piece at la crescenta is a bit too high. Now their coffee, it's a hit and miss. Sometimes it's excellent and sometime its not. I guess it depends on who makes your pour over. I use four barrel beans at home but as we all know, it takes more than good beans to make great cup of coffee. Their teas, they have lots of variety but it would be great if they could upgrade. Quality brand such as mighty leaf or numi would be nice. Its been a while to run into a cafe (these days where people are more health &quality conscious) where they serve stash tea. read more

Here's the situation: my friend drove to my house and we were planning to have an outing with our dogs... I couldn't think of any casual restaurants with outdoor seating so I said "hey! This cafe just recently opened up the street, we should go try it!" And yumyumyum, I'm glad we did! I went inside to grab a menu and took it out. Everything sounded soooo good but it was kinda early so I settled with the tuna melt sandwich and my friend, the BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avocado, and tomato... almost went up to the cashier and actually said BLAT instead of saying bee-el-aye-tee...I wonder how many people saying blat... LOL) The food promptly came out and it looked so delicious ^_^ Both of our sandwiches came with a side salad which was a+ too. I loved the dressing. Overall, the food is great, everything is kinda self serve so I didn't worry much about service, the ambience is awesome (esp for a place in La Crescenta.) I will definitely be returning. Tickle Tree Cafe is a little taste of Melrose in La Crescenta. There is a lot of seating area since they also have tons of table outside on their patio. There is a self-serve water station by the entrance that also has a table full of condiments. They have a lot of good food! I tried a lot of their sandwiches, but the one that takes the cake is the tuna melt. It normally comes with a side of their house salad but sometimes I substitute it for the garlic fries. The garlic fries taste even better with their aioli sauce. The sandwiches are always leave me feeling the perfect amount of full. Their Tickle Tree omelette was so good. It came with just the right amount of cheese and there was a piece of bacon/sausage in every single bite. I get really picky with my omelette ratio portions. I did feel like, however, the omelette didn't come with enough hash browns on the side. The workers are nice, they have always helped me with a smile on their face. The place is clean and has a lot of seating. It is walking proximity of my house. Tickle Tree Cafe will keep getting my business. read more

I had the turkey and swiss sandwich with their house salad... yikes, stay away. a floppy piece of flavorless, prepackaged swiss "cheess"... watery, bland prepackaged turkey and a tomato that was half frozen for some odd reason. that was an interesting surprise. As for the salad? a literal MIST of some type of vinaigrette or other. i couldn't even tell you the flavor because there was so little. I was thinking of giving this place two starts solely on the mint lemonade, but I had a less than mediocre experience here overall, so one it is. If you're going to charge $8.50 for a sandwich, at least put some effort into it. read more

What a cute spot with good food and coffee! They were out of cold brew (in 100 degree heat), so we ordered an iced americano (only comes in one size and was refreshing!) and an iced latte. I sat outside because I brought my dog and there was lots of seating with shade. It is counter service so it is convenient if you're there with a group and want to pay separately. I ordered the soba noodle salad which takes a little bit of time, but it was so satisfying and not heavy. Portions are generous which allowed everyone to try each others meal - cause sometimes I just want a little bit. :) Service was friendly and the place was clean! I will be back! read more

Their location is extremely convenient for almost anyone in LaCrescenta. Their food is great--I've never had anything that I didn't like.. I always get their chopped salad, it's amazing. The only complain I have is that a lot of their foods (salad dressings/fries) have a LOT of garlic in them. Their tuna melt/ sweet potato fries are also delicious! Our neighbors rock! I just realized that we've been coming to the Tickle Tree for more than a year on a weekly basis and never written a review. We own a gym across the street from the restaurant and many times we need to get food that is quick, healthy and that also tastes good. Usually you can only get 2 out of 3. Lucky for us, the guys at the guys at Tickle Tree Café know their stuff. Fresh ingredients, fast service, affordable prices and the attention to detail that comes with having the owners around, this place is a hidden gem in La Crescenta. We feel good about sending our clients over for breakfast, where they can get the "secret menu" as we call it. It's the "Louis Special breakfast": Omelet with veggies and ham, no cheese, a side of black beans and salad. Perfection! Or for dinner, the most scrumptious chicken spinach salad. For those days when you need some comfort food, (oops) my go-to is the Portobello Sandwich that comes with the most fantastic sweet potato fries. But it's not only about food. These guys have a heart of gold. Every now and then we run small charity campaigns and they ALWAYS help us out by donating either product or money. That is priceless! One real bad episode just really ruined the whole experience for us. I came here to order breakfast to go for my family. Ordered an omelettes and a breakfast sandwich, which the cashier said would take 20-30 minutes (reasonable). We were sitting at the tables that were located right in front of the register, in the view of all the workers. Low and behold, 40 mins have past, and nothing. ALL workers ignoring us sitting there. Now I consider myself a fairly patient individual, but after being ignored MULTIPLE times, I kindly asked how much longer it'd take. they said its almost ready. Now, what made me even more upset was that, individuals came in AFTER we took our orders, and received their meal BEFORE ours (they ordered the orange french toast or something like that). I told myself when that customer finishes their stupid toast I'm going to just ask for a refund, but low and behold, they call our numbers, handed our meals, and stayed silent, NO "Enjoy your meal", NO "Have a nice day", NO "Sorry for making you wait for OVER AN HOUR". We got home pretty bitter, and noticed that our omelette was cold to the touch, ripped apart, and garnished with slightly browning avocados. Is it worth returning? Maybe to get a cup of water or so, I mean I live RIGHT there and my family HAS been going their pretty much all the time. But ever since that experience, we've never really set foot in that establishment whatsoever. But yeah, If this doesn't change your minds, definitely eat IN. read more

I don't know where to begin... YUMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!! This place is reason for me to never lose weight. The staff is kind, polite, helpful and patient. I have tried 75% of the menu and everything was unbelievably flavorful and delicious. Now I stick to my usual tuna melt with a tomato and side of garlic fries (Their salads are kind of bland. The greens are fresh but the house dressing is like eating flavorless oil but you can alternate the dressing for Caesar or ranch... The ranch is green! So good!!!). My brother, mom and boyfriend are obsessed with the pastrami. Pasta is only available after 5pm. The only downfall is that they don't pick up the phone for pick-up orders since they are so busy. The phone just rings until it's forwarded to a fax machine or something really noisy lol. The place is a little over priced (especially for tuna and fries) but it's well worth it. Cute cafe, good four barrel coffee and a nice place to just come to eat and chat with friends! I've been wanting to try their breakfast menu, but I've only been able to make it when it's lunch. However, everything I have tried so far has been a nice experience. If i were to place a couple favorites, it would have to be the steak sandwich and the chicken pesto. Servers and owners are very helpful and always nice. CONS: Rest of the food, including the breakfast items, sound and look good but don't taste great at all. I think they get a boost in ratings because this area simply doesn't have cool, hipster coffee/pastry/breakfast/lunch cafes to compete with so it's the best that La Crescenta has. Internet is really spotty and not reliable. Sometimes it's out for hours which messes you up if you were planning on working on your computer there. I had to drink my green tea latte fast and head on home to work. I had a time constraint of only having 4 hours free to work on a manuscript so that was a little annoying and that has happened to me more than once so I will have to take most of my business somewhere else that has more of everything I need -- great food, great ambience,wifi, etc. *Other places like Aroma Tea & Coffee on Tujunga Blvd, Urth Caffe in DTLA, Republic of Pie in North Hollywood are much, much, much better in terms of fun & cool ambience & clientele, decor, food quality, taste and menu choices. I really want to give them a solid 4 or 5 stars, but they just miss that mark in the areas of food quality and ambience and don't have enough outlets for you to do computer work (which would make this cafe a more full fledged GREAT place to hang out, socialize and get work done kinda place). read more

The only cafe establishment located in lcr that gives off the hipster vibe. I would say if you're too lazy to drive all the way down to Melrose, DTLA, or Third St, you should give this place a shot. I don't remember what I got the last time I came, but they do have a variety of healthy options. I was craving for omelette so my boyfriend took me here. However I was not satisfied with the omelette. It took 25 minutes before it was served despite there were no much customers in the cafe. Worse is it was served half burned and salty. I think the waiters were not paying much attention to customers coming in because they were too busy preparing the tables and coffee counter. This place just opened up near my work and I really hope it does well because I want to keep coming here. I had the tuna melt as recommended by another reviewer and it was delicious: perfectly grilled, a nice ratio of mayo and tuna in the filling and just the right amount of cheese. The staff is really friendly and the inside has a fun homey atmosphere. The prices are great for the amount of food you get. I got a big sandwich and a really tasty salad for $8:50. I even ate almost all of the salad which is saying something because I am not a salad person. The bottom line is if you work in the La Crescenta area, this is a great place to come for lunch. Food was okay. But a bit pricey. They add $.75 for decaf americano. Never had add on price for Decaf before. This was new to me.

I'm usually reluctant to give low ratings to new Mom & Pop shops, but I simply feel like this Cafe' simply has not found that ineffable quality that makes famous Mom & Pop's so successful. My order was a "Portobello Pesto" sandwich which comes with garlic fries. When dining at family owned cafe's like these I expect ,and am totally ok with, paying slightly higher prices than what would be charged for a similar item at a chain store. In this case, the 10.50 charged for the meal seemed fair....until the meal arrived. They give a generous amount of fries, but then they'd have to to cover up the vast area's of vacant plate the sandwich does not occupy. The sandwich consisted of one, slim piece of under-nourished portobello, which was thinner than the slices of roasted pepper it shared it's real-estate with. Also on the sandwich was a pesto spread with one, thick slice of cheese. The flavor itself wasn't bad, but the entire sandwich could be eaten with just a handful of bites and looks like an up-scale kids-meal. The steak panini a friend of mine ordered was small as well, but was reportedly quite tasty. A better, bigger, and cheaper vegetable sandwich could be had at Porto's bakery and cafe'. I wouldn't mind the lap-band portions if the prices were slightly more reasonable. And I wouldn't the price if the portions were likewise more reasonable (In case you're wondering, I do not have an especially voracious appetite and weigh in at only 125 pounds) . There are other tweaks Tickle tree could make to make for a more appeal-able visit. The Lemonade is refreshingly tart, but is 3.50 and has no refills. Even if refills were .50 cents, Tickle Tree would still make money on what is a ridiculously cheap drink to make and would please customers in the process. I believe that with a few simple tweaks of the menu and portioning, Tickle Tree will possess what it takes to become a true hot spot in La Crescenta. read more

I seriously want to like this place and support my local coffee shop but they are making it really difficult. in the two times I've been here it almost seems like they forgot about me and my order, of coffee only. both times the people behind me in line that ordered food received their food and coffee before I did. after they received their food I looked over and my coffee wasn't even being prepared. the first time I had to go remind them and the second time I was so dumbfounded it was happening again I just waited. with a nearly empty shop and two orders I don't think it should take almost 20 mins for a latte. sadly I doubt I'll be returning anytime soon. read more

Almost passed by without noticing this place. I really dig the simple decor in here (nice choice on the tables and lights) and the service is always friendly. I haven't tried a lot of things on the menu, but the sandwiches I have tried were all prepared very well and the coffee was decent. I plan to return over a weekend to try their breakfast because it all sounds good and they have a nice patio out in front that's prime for taking advantage of the Spring weather. 4 stars for a cool local cafe read more

A recently opened, clean and classy looking joint, they make great coffee and food and appear to take pride in their work. Run by some younger adults, this is a joint with some good quality fair. The Tickle Tree Burger is your classic burger with bacon and such, very nice. The eggplant sandwich includes other grilled veggies and is delicious. I tried the portabella muchroom sandwich and thought it good, but my all time favorite there is the tuna melt... warm all the way through, buttered crisp bread slices, it's perfect. The fries are excellent, and resemble mcdonald fries (thin and crisp) but with GARLIC! They rock. Outdoor spots are well placed, and most have umbrellas and shade, however there will always be a few that are out of luck. Curious how bad that'll be in the summer. If you plan to come here and internet surf, know that outlets are few, and you should probably come during off-peak (non-lunch) hours, since they sometimes get pretty full, and on a big table you're gonna be a dick. read more

I went to this place on a recommendation and found it to be so overpriced for what you get. Even the regular coffee in a ceramic mug has a $1 refill. I was shocked as that is not listed anywhere. In addition, the chorizo tastes like hamburger and the tortilla was a deep fried flour one.
