There is nothing bad on the menu. Full stop. Read that again. Service is always top notch. Full stop. Read that again. Many different areas of seating with varying levels of sun/shade. Very apparent a lot of thought and care went/goes into the menu and the running of the establishment. Their teas and lemonade drinks are interesting and super refreshing. Their coffee game can be good at times depending on what they've brought on from roasters. STILL pushing them to use local roasters - Jones and Unincorporated are two roasters within a 10min drive! Loved it! Fast service and everything was delicious. What a great little place to have breakfast at! These guys actually know how to have omelettes! I almost couldn't believe how well it was cooked without burning any of it. The coffee was yum and look at that foam art! Food: The quality was above average. Pancakes were soft & tasty. Bacon was not salty w/ good texture. Eggs were done according to my request. Omelette was cooked with just enough combination of meat & veggie. Coffee was freshly brewed. Price: Expensive given the quantity of food. You also need to pay a dollar extra for second serving of coffee unlike other breakfast places where coffee is unlimited. Service: Very slow. Our coffee was already cold when the food arrived. Same goes with other tables where one customer even clapped when his order came in. And with such a small space inside we needed to literally go to the condiment section by squeezing ourselves in between tables to get milk, sugar, etc. Parking: Free but a bit struggle specially over the weekends. read more

Food is whatever and price is way too high for what it is. Problem is that there is nowhere to go. Coffee sucks and shaved ice price is ooutrageous. Pretty much self serve at this restaurant. And for breakfast, got "Jim's Pancakes": 2 pancakes, 2 eggs cooked to order, 2 strips of bacon and potatoes that are a hash browns/home fries hybrid, large chunks of potato but with a crust like hash browns. All in all, a perfectly serviceable breakfast, fluffy pancakes, eggs cooked as ordered, and it was promptly served. (But they weren't very busy either) Plenty of outside seating, which is where I sat. Parking is limited for the size (40 outside and a much smaller number inside), 6 spaces In one parking lot and some curbside outside. The rest would be up the hill in the neighborhood. I've been putting off this review cause I found the experience far too unpleasant to relive so soon after but it's time to rip that bandaid off. We showed up at lunch time so, naturally, the tiny lot and bit of street parking on the side street was full. Had to wait for a bit but eventually someone left. As a 4-star establishment, I'd hope that food would not just be average but above par. We waited in line to order and the wait was long, despite just 3 people ahead of us. No separate line for call in orders either so it was a bit haphazard when people cut in line to demand their food. I got the soba noodle salad that comes w shrimp. As someone that doesn't like shrimp, I requested it without. Came out in a somewhat timely manner so I snapped a few quick pics of our food and bit into it. One bite in and my mouth is stabbed by a shrimp tail. You know what people that don't like shrimp hate more than shrimp? Creepy, translucent shrimp skins. My mouth was tainted by the cold, oceany flavor. I was done. I don't know how that happened and I'm not sure I wanna know but what I do know is that I won't be back. My friend had the chicken sandwich which she said was fine.. I'd still prefer to drive a little further and find something else. There are other options. read more

Been to tickle tree a few times, and I have to say that it is probably a 3.5 star. There is never anything that goes completely wrong, but also it's not a place that blows me out of the water. Since it's a local establishment, I'll round up to 4 stars as it would definitely be a loss if Tickle Tree was not here. I have only gone for breakfast, and the food is always 'good.' It's not an amazing deal or huge portions or delicious amazing food, but it's good local relatively quick food. I remember something was odd about the coffee options last time I went. I think that it is they don't give refills of the coffee, which i thought was really weird. We all know that coffee costs very little to make when made in a batch, so not offering free refills seemed weird. I can't imagine there is a substantial cost for the business for this. I typically get a breakfast burrito and the one here was good. Again, not the best one I have ever had, but it was good. Glad we have this local eatery in the area, and feel free to stop by for a casual dining experience. read more

Recently move in the area, looking for brunch places. This place came highly recommended. Went to try on weekday lunch time. The place wasn't so crowded. They have indoor and outdoor seatings. Menu was pretty variety from breakfast, burger and salad. We ordered portobello much room sandwich and soba noodle salad. They have water dispenser. My husband ordered Arnold Palmer for drink which was on the sour side. The sandwich was really good (we were super hungry though). Waited over half hour for soba noodle salad at the point I have to walk to cashier follow up. Kinda disappointed with the taste, too much salad dressing and the shrimp was so sad looking (seems like they just took it out from the fridge). They're located at Foothill blvd and Dyer st in La Cresenta-Montrose. Indoor atmosphere was cool and emits a positive chi. It's less spacious compared to their outdoor patios. I perused their food/drink/coffee menu and it barely tickled my innocent mind. To put it mildly their food/drink selections were limited. I came here on a blazing hot Thursday afternoon and ordered a Tuna Melt with salad and mint Lemonade for lunch. Their Lemonade (20z) was cold and refreshing. Similarly, the Tuna Melt was warm, thick and tasty. It was so good my medulla oblongata was tickled like how a woman tickles her lover. Anyway, I'm neither here or there let's get back on this review. The salad was fresh. Service was fast and on point. The server guy with an alto voice calls your name out LOUD you may hear it across the street. Lol. Prices were slightly expensive especially the food but the quality is superb. Free Wifi and parking available albeit very small lot. In this voluminous review, it's time time to make a conclusion about this café. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and food/drink. The service is always friendly. The food is tasty. I've tried a few of their salads and sandwiches and feel that they're a healthier option. We used to like this place but we had issues the last two visits. First visit, eggs in chorizo rancheros were not cooked and got us diarrhea for days Second visit, they told us the food will take 30-35 minutes, but we didn't get the food after waiting for 45 minutes and at that time we asked for a refill for one of our drinks ($1 normally). The manager refused to give a refill because we ordered an Americano instead of coffee (which costs more than coffee!), but instead wanted to charge us an additional $3.85 for another coffee. I absolutely love coming to tickle tree when I want to treat myself to a nice brunch that gives a home-y vibe :) Currently there is only outdoor seating offered & you order/pick-up from the window (a bummer because the indoor dining area was so spacious and cute!) Regardless, I always come back because of the consistent quality & freshness of the food. Out of all the meals I've tried here, I LOVE the portobello mushroom sandwich & add chicken inside because of the carnivore I am. It comes with a side of garlic sweet potato fries that are perfectly crispy! (10/10) I was feeling a little edgy today so I ordered the highly recommended soba noodle salad as well. It was wonderfully refreshing & light, with the ginger dressing that they offer on the side. I would like it if they gave a little more shrimp to balance out the amount of noodles (9/10) If you're in the mood for a breakfast dish, I'd recommend getting the Jim's breakfast. Sadly, I dine here quite often and even though a few things are off I never complain. However, yesterday I placed an order over the phone and asked for specific items to be on the side of my sandwich. When my friend went to go pick up the order, they assured her that everything was correct in the bag and that she did not have to double check the order. When she got back to our office, I noticed that the things I wanted were not there and I can't eat the meal the way they prepared it. I called and told the employee the mistake and they stated they are sorry and that someone will call me to fix it. I told them I can bring the food back when I'm off because I was not going to eat a dry incorrect sandwich. The employee assured me that was not necessary and that someone would call me. No one called me, so I called the store myself the next day. I spoke to a so-called manager named AMY, who apologized for the mistake on my meal and stated that they had the health department there at their restaurant all day and the kitchen had to be shut down for several hours which made them have several mistakes. HAVING YOUR KITCHEN SHUT DOWN??? ARE YOU SERIOUS!! I wish they had mentioned that to me when I placed the order since I would not wanted to eat somewhere that the health department had to shut down.. absolutely disgusting and not okay!!! Amy offered me a pastry or a drink, I told her that I wanted to have equal compensation for my meal and yet she stated she wouldn't. !!!! never eating here again!! besides the rude attitude of AMY who needs to take customer service training , the health department shut their kitchen down so gross!!! read more

I came here last Saturday for the first time with family friends after we had watched a soccer game at Crescenta Valley High School. We Yelped and found this place only about 2 minutes away from the high school and decided to stop by here for a quick bite. It is a really cute cafe with a super cute name! There were some fantastic breakfast and lunch options! I just decided to get the Tickle Tree Burger and fries, and an Arnold Palmer, and I was pretty happy! Some of my friends got the Classic Burger, the various salads, or the pancakes. They seem to have a little something for everyone! I just wish that the cafe was a little bit bigger. Fortunately, we found a table where we could seat all 8 of us. But in general, I wouldn't recommend this place for large groups because there just isn't enough seating. And the parking is a little bit tight because there aren't enough parking spaces. I had to park over in the library parking lot across the way, and I got lucky because the library was closed on that Sunday morning. Otherwise, I would have had to find street parking. This place has wifi, though, which is why some people come here and camp out with their laptops while they do their work or their homework here. Last Saturday we had been out in Ojai for the day and just walked in the door, when our daughter called to say she was out in Ontario, and did we want to meet? Okay, then! Where to meet between Simi and Ontario? Yelping yielded this option, and was slightly closer to us than Montrose. I was expecting an outdoor dining option, which they do offer, but only one heater was working, and it was too chilly to be out there without one. Would consider returning on a warm day / evening when al fresco is possible without a blanket. The interior doesn't have much to write home about. It's sparsely decorated and very utilitarian. Fortunately, the young woman behind the counter was very welcoming and helpful with our menu selections. I like that they have various tea options, in addition to coffee. I chose a tea latte, which was very tasty. The portion was quite small, though. We ordered at the front counter, and received a number to display on our table. They brought the food and beverages out to us. Water is self serve. Dear Hubby and I share a piece of their triple berry cake, one of their signature items. Fresh, fruity, light in texture, and not too sweet - all great qualities. Our daughter and her boyfriend ordered a chicken spinach salad to share and reported the salad dressing was tangy and delicious. They raved about the quality of the chicken, along with the seasonings used. Sharing it was just enough food for them at 8:30 at night. I didn't get into the whole background, but apparently the cafe is named after a children's book, "The Tickle Tree". A copy of the book was available to view, with lush illustrations. I've been living in this area for over a decade now, and after a day out at La Crescenta Park with the dogs, we decided to stop here for a quick bite. I've never noticed this place off Foothill because the restaurant itself is on a hill and driving by, you really have to be paying attention to the side buildings. Parking is not an issue because they have their own lot. It's a super quaint, great for studying and coffee break kinda place. They play indie style music inside and have both indoor and outdoor seating. It's super causal, not like a sit-down restaurant so it's great for all ages. The place is kept clean and was not at all busy on a Saturday night around 8pm. They offer breakfast until 2pm, and then they have lunch/dinner which includes: Burgers, Pastas, and a variety of Sandwiches/Wraps. Because this place is a "cafe" not so much a restaurant style, I didn't expect much from the food. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich which comes with a side of their house salad and we ordered a side of Sweet Potato Fries which are sprinkled with Garlic and come with garlic sauce. - - I was really surprised that the food for 4 people within 5 minutes of ordering was already at our table as soon as we sat down, which makes me question how they cook it, especially the chicken. My chicken sandwich was good, I enjoyed it for the most part. The salad was pretty bland, and don't know why its called a "house salad" when it's just tossed greens and tomatoes with no dressing, which is nothing out of the ordinary or special. The Sweet Potato Fries however were really great and thought the garlic touch was an interesting twist. My cousin ordered a Portobello Mushroom Sandwich, that she did not enjoy at all. She went to the front counter and told them nicely that it was not what she expected it to be, tasteless and bland and basically asked for an exchange because she didn't even touch the plate. The owner I'm assuming was sitting near us and quickly got up and his response to her was, "Well what did you expect?" Which I thought was kinda rude, but he was able to accommodate to exchange the plate for something else, by not having her pay. In the end, this restaurant wouldn't be my first choice, but its definitely not a bad place to try their coffee's, smoothies, and teas if you're looking for a place to getaway from crowded places. It's rather quiet, so maybe not so much for conversations, just a quick grab and go. read more

Excellent first trip to Tickle Tree Cafe for lunch. We will definitely be back. Pros: + Housemade lemonade is excellent, they must use the lemon zest oil in the preparation because it has a delicious deep floral lemon just like carnival lemonade. + Portabello sandwich was "meaty" with lots of mushroom and other delicious fresh vegetables. Ciabatta bread was fresh and perfectly warmed and did not overwhelm the fillings at all. + Garlic sweet potato fries were very garlicy and tasty. Did not even need the included aioli. + Turkey swiss sandwich was nicely prepared with fresh avocado and vegetables and just the right amount of fillings. Bread was nicely toasted as well. + Staff are friendly and cheerful. + Good COVID safeguards in place including laminated/cleaned menus, separate clean/dirty pens, and social distancing protocols. + Lots of private lot and street parking in the area. Cons: - No provision of indoor seating right now, which could become an issue when the baking California sun returns in a couple months. Overall an excellent first visit. Always love this gem of a place! Whether you're craving breakfast, lunch or dinner this is the place to eat. The food is always great my go to's are the Cobb salad or the turkey sandwich. Just recently tried the burger and loved all the flavors of the bleu cheese , arugula and bacon with caramelized onions! I've been wanting to go to Tickle Tree for ages but never got around to it until this past Sunday afternoon when I went with some friends. There aren't too many vegetarian options on the menu - so I ordered the portobello mushroom sandwich. They have some great looking drinks on the menu, but I decided to just go with food for the day. They have a good amount of outdoor seating so we took a table on the top portion of the patio. Food came out in a matter of minutes. I was pretty satisfied with my meal. The sandwich was flavorful, although I did take out the roasted red pepper from the second half of the sandwich just because it was too much for me. Sweet potato fries and the aioli were good quality. Overall pretty happy with this place! I might come back to try their drinks. read more
