My kids want me to rate this place - they loooove it! Best Thai food I've had in a long time: clean flavors, fresh ingredients, and flavorful. The veggies are done perfectly. No wimpy, limp veg here. We got House Pad Thai with chicken (1 mild and 1 medium), Panang Curry (with chicken, medium), and the Orange Chicken (medium). All were excellent. Spicy, but delicious! Walking down 4th Ave, I spied a new restaurant in a long-empty space in a nice part of Belltown. Checking on Yelp, I noticed there were no reviews for it yet. Time to do some community service, both through local patronage and documentation thereof. So, Fish Cake Factory! I was bewildered by their pitch: fish cakes, Thai food, ice cream?! This is a side of Thai cuisine that I hadn't seen before. The decor inside made me think I had stumbled into Pinterest: hard wood everything, bare low-wattage lightbulbs, and white ceramics under high ceilings. With more people, it would've been very cozy and charming. I was early for dinner hour, and the restaurant only opened 3 days ago, so not many people were present. The hostess attended to everyone who came in with a missionary fervor. I put in an order for garlic trout cakes (with sweet chili sauce and some kind of slaw) and a side of steamed vegetables. While waiting, a server brought out a saucer of peanut sauce, plus toasted bread on the rim. Nice! Too bad the bread and the sauce tasted monotonously sweet together. The peanut sauce tasted much better with the steamed vegetables. The veggies were al dente, and their mild flavors contrasted nicely with the dip. How about those trout cakes? Rad: crunchy, moist, spicy (american-2-out-of-4-star spicy), and complex. The crunch came from being packed with green onions, and exactly the right amount of oil was used. Damn good. Serving size is great: each of the three cakes had the right size, and I wouldn't have wanted a fourth. The slaw was present and pleasant; not much to say. Bewildered by the neon signs that said "ice cream", and wanted to write a complete review, I ordered some maple nut ice cream. (Be thankful, Yelpers; I am making myself fat for your benefit!) I thought maybe there'd be a ribbon of maple, but the flavor ran throughout, and didn't overpower. The hostess promised big chunks of walnut, so I expected pieces the size of my pinky, but the walnut pieces were only as large as a penny is thick. Technically, I was deceived, but I honestly think I liked it better that way; the sweet and the nut were precisely balanced in every spoonful. It came with a crisp cookie, too. The food is good AND interesting AND hard to find elsewhere. The service will shine, given time to practice and polish. I hope the Fish Cake Factory finds an audience; it deserves one. read more

Came here for date night when I was craving some Thai food. We started with Garlic & pepper wings which were great. Then we split a house pad thai with shrimp at 3 stars and a house fried rice with chicken at 2 stars. Both were very delicious! These dishes were as tasty as they were spicy. However next time I will be ordering one star less haha. I can't handle too much spice, which is unfortunate for my boyfriend who loves spice (note: he would have asked for 5 stars if he didn't have to share the dishes with me). Oh and I highly recommend getting a thai tea! Not sure if this restaurant uses real brewed tea but it tastes so much better than the cheaper powdered thai teas that most other restaurants will serve. :) read more

I live across the way from the Fish Cake Factory, and was surprised to see this place pop up out of nowhere pretty much. We have a Thai place in the neighborhood already, but its not that great, so I was stoked to hear that the Fish Factory is Thai food with these fish cakes. First, the menu is extensive, reasonably priced and with most of the Thai favorites everyone loves. What sets it apart though are the fish cakes. I had no idea that Thai cuisine included fish cakes, but they are delicious. Got the fish cake sampler which has one of everything, and it was just what I needed. Each one is unique and full of flavor. Not too greasy, lots of meat and plenty of spice (not too hot though, try to turn up the heat next time). The fried rice is fantastic, not oily and with plenty of fresh veggies. Overall great experience, got take out this time, but the place looks like it has nice ambiance. Came in for dinner with two friends. The place was nearly empty on a Saturday night. We were seated quickly and were informed the cocktail menu was gone and the new ones were on a chalkboard. A drink was spilled and we were told it would be free, but we ended up still being charged. I ordered the green papaya salad and that also was out. We ended up with two orders of pad Thai and sesame beef. These were tasty and my two friends with dietary restrictions (tree nut allergy and celiac disease) were able to order easily and we were all happy with the food. This was the most pathetic restaurant I have ever been too. Nothing. Literally nothing was right. Poor lighting, ambience which makes you want to kill yourself. Oh my god, the slow music was really choking my brains out. Oh and yes, food. The most important thing. It was never there. There's the adage that pizza is like sex. When it's good, it's really good. When it's bad, it's still pretty good. That's how I feel about Fish Cake Factory. The closest edible Thai food to my work, I have been known to sneak away for some chicken or tofu Pad Thai, or their skewers, or a crab cake. And most of the time, it's pretty solid. I'll focus on the tofu Pad Thai, since this happens to be what I eat the most. I was turned on to this by the way they cook their tofu. Fried crisp on the outside, and perfect consistency on the inside, it is absolutely a delight. Throw in the sauce they use (not at all ketchup-y), and I have a winning combination. This is one of the rare Thai joints that can successfully add heat without killing flavor, so I have them go overboard - if my face isn't melting, they're doing it wrong. That's not to say it's always right. There has been occasion when the food has been blah. The spice missing, the flavor dull. And lately, the kitchen has seemed to be in love with red onions, using far too many in the mix. But, on the whole, I have found my meals at Fish Cake to be a delight. The space itself is cute. Large windows right on the street, hardwood floors, the vibe is decent enough. It can be a bit echo-y - high ceilings and everything is wood - so not a place for intimate conversation. The staff are super pleasant, which is always helpful. The speed of service, however, is not ideal. This is one area where FCF could really use work - when I'm told 15 minutes, I expect 15 minutes, not 25. Cook time while dining in is also a bit excessive. But, on the whole, it is a place I will continue to frequent. I am hopeful that they lose their red onion lust, but I could always just say "no onions". And wait times have always been a problem, so I'm learning to just come five minutes later than told for take out. Definitely worth a shot, though, if you're in Belltown and looking for tasty Thai. read more

This was pretty much a random find for me, walking around downtown Seattle and starting to get hungry. I was in a Thai mood, so I ducked in here. Sort of surprised to find the place empty on a Friday night -- not normally a good sign -- but it's a pleasant, inviting place. Staff was friendly and attentive, me being the only customer and all, at least for the first twenty minutes or so, the newbie waiter and the bartender tag-teaming to keep me well fed and watered. I ordered the Thai beef salad and spring rolls. I asked about the spiciness scale on the salad and was told it was somewhere between Americanized and Asian hot , so I ordered medium-spicy. Ooh boy, almost too hot for me. The salad was good, but nothing to write home about. Fiery spiciness aside, it lacked some of the limey tanginess and rich complexity of spices I crave in Thai beef salads. Good enough, but I've had better in many places (including the lonely Thai restaurant in my small New Mexico town; I was hoping I could at least top that in Seattle). Spring rolls: again, good but not magnificent. I tried the jasmine lemongrass tea cocktail, which sounded like an intriguing Thai answer to a Long Island iced tea. But it turned out to be pretty bland and weak. Not a lot of lemongrass or jasmine to it, or much of a kick either. The cucumber cilantro martini was much better; nice flavor combo. I'll probably come back again if I happen to be in the neighborhood, but it's not the kind of place worth driving across town for. To be fair, I only had a very small sampling of their offering, so my so-so first impression could change. I didn't try the curries or noodle dishes, so I'd like to give them another shot. I did appreciate the service and enjoyed the atmosphere, which managed to feel homey and hip at the same time. Great name, by the way. It's not really a Thai restaurant, you know. This restaurant just opened a few blocks from my home. So we tried it out a couple weeks ago on a night we were too tired to cook. Here are my thoughts... SERVICE Our server was polite and attentive. He was also very personable and easy to chat with. But he totally forgot our rice. AMBIANCE/DECOR This is not your typical Thai restaurant decor. Instead it has a bright shabby-chic kitchen feel to it. I felt like I was sitting in a friend's kitchen. We especially LOVED the simple light bulb lamps. However, we were really confused by the ice cream sign. It's rather large and makes you think the restaurant is actually an ice cream shop. Lastly, you can hear a lot of noise from the kitchen. All the chit chat and clattering of pots and pans were a bit distracting. Especially when the restaurant was rather quiet. Maybe some music would help? FOOD The Snapper Main Dish The snapper was juicy and saucy. My husband especially liked the sauce. I thought it was a bit overpowering. The green beans were cooked perfectly; not too soft, not too hard. Fried Garlic Chicken Wings Tasty but nothing to rave about. I was expecting much more garlic. The dipping sauce was too much like a sweet and sour sauce from a Chinese takeout restaurant to me. Soup (Creamy Tom Yum soup?) This was the best part of our meal! I ate every last drop. I really liked that they did not over cook the chicken and the serving was large enough for both of us to split the order. Underwhelmed. The restaurant was nearly empty. At first there was no music- so it felt very awkward. The service was lackluster, the selection of beer and wine is limited at best. No liquor. The food we had- fish cake sampler, pork ribs, and chicken wings- we're all just ok- but nothing really blew us away. I came here a few days ago and as soon as I stepped in the door, I realized that this restaurant was in the same location where Fish Cake Factory used to be. I hoped that my experience at Ti22 would be better than my horrible experience at Fish Cake Factory, but I left disappointed. The service was incredibly slow. My friend and I walked in and stood around for five minutes waiting for someone to seat us, before we finally seated ourselves. We had to wait another 10 minutes for the menus after that, all while watching one employee trying to manage the phone and the entire front of the restaurant by himself. We considered just getting up and walking out right before they came over with the menus. We finally placed our orders and the food took forever to arrive. I would estimate 20 minutes for two very simple dishes (fried rice and phad thai). It was not worth the wait. The phad thai was quite bland and unmemorable. The fried rice was the same. After we finished eating, we proceeded to wait another 15-20 minutes to get our check so we could leave. There are much better Thai restaurants around with much faster service, so I don't think I'll be coming back here. read more

4 stars for their food, but I'd give them 2 for their service (but I'll be nice). Their basil chicken and crab fried rice are really good. I found some bits of shell in the crab fried rice, though, so it was kind of annoying to eat. But the flavors were good. So, the service. The first time my BF came here, he was by himself, and according to him, he was seated and then ignored for a long time before he decided to just leave. Already he had a bad impression. But we love Thai food so we stopped in to give it another chance. The same lady was there and she was very inattentive. She took our order, but the rest of the time, she was too busy chatting it up with her coworkers or chopping up stuff at the bar. The bartender was really friendly though. We didn't have any complaints about him. He came by to check up on us and it felt like he was the server, not the lady who seemed like she didn't really care about us. Just an odd experience. The food here was surprisingly good, but I had to give Fish Cake Factory 3 stars due to the terrible service. First, no one came to seat us or greet us, so we had to seat ourselves and then it took 5 minutes for the waitress to come with our menus. It took about 40 minutes to get our food, and the reason given was that they have a small kitchen (though there were a total of 5 people in the restaurant). The waitress at the end charged my friend twice instead of splitting the check, and it took another 15 minutes to sort that out. I had the Pad Thai, which was very good, a good level of spiciness and fresh ingredients. The restaurant was clean and airy. I'd probably just do take out in the future. read more

I'm very glad I got the sampler plate because I got to try all the cakes for a reasonable price and they were sooo delicious! I feel in love with the crispy trout salad and can't get enough of it! On a recent trip to Seattle on a Thursday at about 2:30 PM my wife and I were feeling a bit peckish. After reading other Yelp reviews about Ti22 we decided to give it a try: and I'm very glad we did! Between us we ordered: Shrimp & Pork Spring Rolls House Pad Thai + chicken (hotness: 3/5) Kee Mao + chicken (hotness: 2/5) Cost: $34 The spring rolls arrived in a timely manner and as our totally cool waiter, Travis, warned us they were EXTREMELY HOT - so let'm cool down a bit! The dipping sauce was sweet and very gingery. As one would expect, the rolls came w/ shredded carrots, green cabbage, & red cabbage which was also good w/ the dipping sauce. Now, I'm a bit picky about Pad Thai. It's like ordering a pepperoni pizza to gauge a pizzeria's quality: you know both good & bad examples. This Pad Thai was very good indeed. At a hotness of 3/5 it was perfect - for me that is. The noodles weren't over cooked; the bean sprouts fresh and crunchy, & the chicken was tender and there where no nasty "mystery" bits lucking in the depths of the dish. The Kee Mao had delicious wide rice noodles and the sauce was scrumptious! And, like the Pad Thai, these folks don't skimp on the potion size. Overall, both the main courses where excellent! Sometimes, when you visit a restaurant between lunch & dinner you don't what you're going to get, but at Ti22 you can expect an excellent meal at a very reasonable cost along with great service! This is a small restaurant in very good condition. It's clean and there's an interesting "jar & utensil" art piece on the north wall (you'll need to see it for yourself). Went here for lunch on a weekend, the menu has a lot too offer and I was excited to try one of the fish cakes. The fish cakes were seasoned nicely and came with some greens which was a nice compliment to break up the fish taste, but it took awhile for the meals to come out of the kitchen. The three fish cakes that came in the meal were more than enough for me and were nice and lite so I didn't walk away feeling like a needed a nap in the middle of the day. My friends shared a Pad Thai which I tried and was also very good. I'm still on the fence with this place. The curry dishes are excellent. The salad dishes and soups are good - the rice dishes are good. The black rice pudding is delish. Where does it fail? The noodle dishes. Too wet, too soggy, falling apart noodles. It's Thai food not Russian prison food! Sadly noodle dishes are a cornerstone of a Thai place so a more severe reduction in star rating. I would love to be able to order a nice plate of pad see ew and get it right. Will try noodles again in a month or so and bump to 4-5 stars if on point. We really enjoyed coming here for dinner! They had delicious food and great service. We found this restaurant because I had bought a Groupon deal. I had low expectations because Groupon has taken me to some crappy restaurants before. In the past, I've bought deals where the restaurant would jack up the prices so they would compensate for the discount. Anyways, when we arrived, there was plenty of parking in the front. There weren't that many people at the restaurant, which set our expectations even lower. When the waitress came to take our order, she did a fantastic job explaining what her favorite items were on the menu. We ordered the fish cake sampler cake (this was a little expensive but a lot of fun to explore the different types of fish cakes that are out there). We also ordered the pork skewers which was pretty tasty with all the sauces that as sides. We also ordered the pat see ew (the spicy level was a 2/5 but came out really spicy-not so yummy for me), crab fried rice (SOOO GOOD), and Panang curry (pretty good). This was enough for all of us. In total we spent about $25 - Groupon + $17. For the amount of food that we had, this was a pretty good deal. I conjecture that the reason they don't have that much business on a Friday night is because their exterior does not look like a Thai restaurant. They have neon light signs that advertise "ice cream." Instead, they should have signs that say "Fish Cake." People on the streets probably think they are an ice cream shop. Also, the inside of the restaurant looks like a wine bar. If their restaurant looked more appealing from the outside, maybe they would get more customers. They are already don't an excellent job on the taste of the food, portion size, and customer service. read more

We were in town for Emerald City and this place was near our hotel. The restaurant was quiet, beautifully decorated and most importantly the food was amazing. I'm gluten-free so I ordered two appetizers and both were great. So great that my husband ended up eating mine and taking some of his food back to the hotel for his after dinner dinner. read more

This place is okay, totally good enough for takeout on a random Wednesday night you don't feel like cooking. I think their food is quite Americanized as far as thai places go (compared to, say, Golden Singha down the street). Prices are reasonable, though went up recently. I usually order the Pad Thai (traditional) with soft tofu, which comes in a nice compostable paper box rather than the plastic clamshell getup lots of other takeout places give you. They even ask if you want a bag to save the world from a little more plastic, for the enviormental cred! The Pad Thai comes quick after calling them (10-15 minutes most times I've called) and is nice and hot. As is tradition, the pad thai comes with a side of crushed peanuts, lime, and bean sprouts for you to mix it at your pleasure. Overall a pleasant experience. read more

Ti22 is a solid, reasonably priced option for Thai food in Belltown. It's definitely Americanized Thai (you get your standard noodle, fried rice and curry offerings), so don't come here expecting a shower of kaffir lime leaves to come raining down on you. However, the upside of this is that it's a good Thai restaurant to go to with your less gastronomically adventurous friends and family. They used to have beer on tap, but that seems to have disappeared as of my visit a week ago. Now, they only offer bottled beer, cocktails, and glasses of wine. This is a real pity because you used to be able to get a pint of beer for under $4 on happy hour, and that was a great way to wash down spicy noodles. Fortunately, the spicy noodles are still around. Pad khee mao is my usual order, and these guys do a fairly decent rendition of it. Nothing standout, but nothing offensive. I got 4/5 stars on the spice scale, and it really packed a punch. I'm also definitely not a wimp when it comes to spice, so my takeaway is that this Americanized Thai food operates on an Asian spice scale (4 stars is much more easy to down at most other Thai places of this nature in Seattle). This is a good option for a meal when in Belltown, but probably not worth going out of your way for--Thai restaurants with similar menus are a dime a dozen around all of Seattle. But hey, a lot of people do happen to live and work around Belltown. If you're one of these people, definitely try to check these guys out for dinner one night. read more
