MAGIC. I came here based on Yelp reviews and wanted to get Maria like everyone suggested but because she was out on Monday I had to go with Karuna instead. Don't be fooled - pretty much everyone is a professional who knows what they are doing!!! She did a fantastic job. I have thin eyebrows so I was worried about over-threading. I've only done threading once before and it wasn't too bad but they didn't really shape it. So this time I wanted more shape to my eyebrows, at the risk of having them too thin. Karuna listened and went about her business briskly and voila! my eyebrows never looked better. They look the same, yet different. I loved them! She made sure I was happy with everything before I left and I got a card for the 8th visit free. My days of searching for good threading places/getting eyebrows waxed (shudder) is now long gone. I've only had one experience with this business and I was so unimpressed I've never returned. Throughout my visit it felt like they did NOT want me there (I have no idea why). The mood of my threader and another woman (maybe the manager/owner?) progressively declined throughout my visit. First they were sourgrapes that I was then and they were further upset that I used a 1/2 off coupon (hey, don't offer coupons if you don't like when people use them!). They also said I couldn't have the visit count as a visit on the loyalty card. Seriously? It's only $4 off. Considering Unique Threading counts your FREE visit as the first visit on your new card, I really knew there was no reason for me to ever return. It was a bit of a hike for me to get there anyway. I've never had a bad thread experience here. The place is nice, clean and staff is friendly. I do wish it was a tad cheaper though, $8 for a threading is on the pricey side. However, they have a punch card to receive a free threading after 8 visits and if you join there mailing list you'll get 2-for-1 specials every now and then. I'm not going to risk finding another place. I have piece of mind knowing that I'll always look great when I leave here. read more

I've had 2 horrible experiences with Thread. Both times they screwed up my eyebrows. I'm sure there's one or two really good threaders here but I wouldn't just drop in because the quality is obviously not uniform. The first time they made a gap in the middle of my right eyebrow. The second time she overplucked on my right eyebrow and so one is longer than the other. I would even consider calling into question all the threaders' service quality because the lighting in this place is awful (like candlelit a dinner date) so how could they possibly see what they're doing? My favorite threading place (Unique Shape Threading in Brooklyn), and most other places that do a good job, have bright lights (sometimes even fluorescent lighting) to make sure they get every hair), so I just don't understand how such a highly rated place could offer stellar service without good lighting--since the service at-hand requires good lighting. read more

Yes, I finally got my brows did. The verdict? Not too bad but good lord does it hurt! I had just come from a Brazilian and I'm saying that. Walked in and there was a cute little Indian lady who asked my what I wanted. I nervously replied that I wanted my brows threaded and within a few second I was in a seat explaining what I wanted. She had me put one hand over my lid and the other on my forehead to hold the skin taught, but in retrospect I think that I held my face too tight and it somehow messed up the shaping. I wasn't too happy with my shape, but then again, I wasn't too clear with what I wanted because I had never done it before. In the end, it was $8 well-spent for the experience and I got a little card and if I fill it up 6 times I get the 7th free. I'm going to try it at home before I go in again, but if I do return I'll have a better idea of what I want. As a side note, she didn't leave me with pencil thin brows which I was super happy about. read more

Great in and out service. Just popped in for an arm wax ($25). The esthetician was all business, no friendly small talk but got the job done quick. Left a bit of wax on me even after wiping my arms down and was a bit surly. Hopefully she did a good job but it's too early to tell. Found my go-to eyebrow threading place! NC is great and meticulous. I've had other people work on my eyebrows there but NC is the best! She always double checks her work to ensure that I'm ok with shape and size before I leave. Make sure to ask for her! My go to place for arm waxing. Waxing is quick and as painless as possible. They are very hygenic and don't double dip. usually they pour the wax into a smaller cup to use. They wear gloves which is also comforting. I've been to many of the technicians and they are all good. they get busy in the evening but other times the wait is minimal and you can walk right in. They def seem to get people in and out ASAP. read more

I've come to this location numerous times and have gotten my eyebrows threaded with Sonal. My eyebrows are usually thick, so they do not require much maintenance; however, last week I went in and told her the usual- just to clean them up. Instead, she thinned out my left brow which changed the shape and looked COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than my right brow. After seeing this, i told her i was not happy with them and instead of acknowledging her error, she told me that that's the shape of my eyebrows and STILL charged me. Honestly, the worst experience I've had in here and definitely will not be coming back again. read more

Walked past this place all the time on my way to work. Always wanted to try threading but too scared. Finally one day curiosity got over me and I walked in. The workers instantly helped me feel at ease. Before you know it, I was on the chair having my first experience. Happened pretty quickly. Painfree experience...Waxing is def more painful. This place is a hit or a miss-- the first time I came here, it was perfectly fine. The lady asked me to wait, the line went by really quickly, and she asked my preference and what I wanted done. She took her time, was careful, and nice. The second time, not so much. It was a different person, but she was either in a bad mood or tired. She did my brows and upper lip really hastily and didn't even offer any soothing lotion or anything afterwards, instead just going straight to the cash register. When she rang up my credit card, she asked if I was going to tip on the card in an almost accusatory tone (I tipped in cash). I left in a sour mood and my brows a little over-threaded. I'll just fill them in, but annoyed because she could have taken at least a little more care. Brows + upper lip is around $15 including tip. Goodbye Pinky's, hello Thread Salon! I've been a loyal customer at Pinky's for the last three years. The fact that you could be in and out in five minutes and spend $7 for your eyebrows to be shaped to perfection totally had me sold. The fact that their price has gone up and the attitudes of the staff have gotten snippier has deterred me. Anyhow, after holding out for as long as I could, I debated going back but then decided to try Thread on a whim. Boy am I glad I did. The salon is super clean, its easy to get to and the people are very nice. The shaping job that the girl did on me was AMAZING - my first time there and I must say my full experience was better here than it ever was at Pinkys, and for the same price that Pinky's just upped theirs to. They get 2 thumbs up from me for hygiene, cleanliness, customer service and of course, for shapely brows. I had been getting my eyebrows threaded at a fancier more expensive threading place for a while, which was getting tough on my wallet. When a friend told me about this place, which offers $8 eyebrow threading and you don't need an appointment, I was more than willing to try it. So yeah, they kind of have a get-'em'in-get-'em-out attitude, but I kind of want to get in and get out anyway! I've been here about 6x's so far just for eyebrow threading and have never been disappointed. In fact, the most recent trip resulted in the best eyebrow shape I've ever had - EVER - and I used to get them shaped by someone who is known as 'eyebrow shaper to the celebrities.' A friend even commented on how great they look. Give them a try. Seriously, it's $8 and if you hate the work they do, they'll grow back, don't worry! So there are certain things that are way cheaper in NYC than in SF with absolutely no explanation to why. The top of the list is eyebrow threading. SF 35+, NYC around 8 bucks. Seriously? In any case, Thread does a good job. It has been ages since my last threading (which BTW was in Cairo) and I am sick and tired of the wax/pluck combo. I have serious eyebrows. They are thick and well shaped and I have no fear of ever over plucking them since they come back with a vengeance. The young lady who did my brows was FAST and got every last small hair. The final shape was good, not perfect but I went home and rounded out a few hairs. No biggie. Seriously less than 10 bucks with tip. The best thing about my threading is that it is now 3 months later and my brows still look amazing! Yes you read that correctly...3 months not weeks. My husband also got his neck waxed and they did a great job on him. He was a little red for an hour but he remained neck hair free for at least a month. Since I am in NYC at least twice a year, I got a discount card. I plan on making it a part of my regular pilgrimage to Second Ave Deli while there. read more

I only would go to Maryya. I always walk in and rarely have to wait - unless Maryya has a line. Tell her what you want and she'll pretty much execute -- which is important for a person so particular about their brows like me. If this place was not out of my way then i would still go. Like every other brow place, with a certain number of visits, you get one free with the card. They also have yummy caramels to snack on while you wait. $8 bucks for a brow threading plus tip. read more

This place doesn't disappoint and remains my go-to spot for eyebrow threading. The women there are great at threading but always remember to tell them what you want before you start (ex. "thin and arched," or "on the thicker side" etc). I made the mistake of omitting the thin part one time and having to decide last minute I wanted my eyebrows to look a bit differently. The woman doing the threading did it without complaint and efficiently. They really know how to make sure that your eyebrows come out looking great and that their shape compliments your face. Fast and friendly service, relatively painless (with threading you'll always have just a bit of pain but Thread employees seem to know the real tricks of the trade), and decent price. They will also give you a card so that once you've gone there a certain number of times you get a free eyebrow threading (I am only 2 visits away!) Doesn't get better than this! read more

Not happy how my eyebrows turned out. I was excited and chose this place because of all the positive reviews.. but please make sure you and the staff are in communication of exactly what you want! She saw I came in with big eyebrows (because that's what I like). She even said "oh you like big eyebrows?" And I said yes, thinking that was enough discussion because all I wanted was a clean up.. well I was very very wrong. I left with skinny 90's eyebrows, totally not what I like, I'm so upset. I went to Thread on the recommendations of other yelpers and have become a die-hard customer. I agree with what everyone below mentioned...sometimes it hurts a little bit but it's over quickly and it's completely worth it. I've never had to wait, you're in and out in 20 minutes tops and so far, I've been happy with the result every time. I really prefer threading to waxing (especially since I have sensitive skin) and after coming here, I'll probably never go back to waxing. I am a threading convert! I used to get my eyebrows waxed and never even thought of threading until a friend told me to try them out ($9 for eyebrow threading, compared to $20-something getting waxed!) There are about 8 or 9 stations so there is hardly ever a wait, I think the longest I waited was 10 minutes because I came when most people are leaving work. They are fast and precise, and the cooling lotion they put on afterwards makes the redness go away a little bit faster. The (two) best parts: the frequent threader card... after 6 threads, get one free! And of course the free caramel after the visit is the cherry on top. Yum! read more

The place is SPOTLESS and hygiene is of prime importance, which (let's face it) is hard to come by in manhattan. The waxing rooms are impeccable. Go there and ask for NC, she is REALLY amazing. My eyebrows were a complete disaster and she did WONDERS to them. I have been to so many different places and I have never found anyone as careful and attentive as her. Even the first time I went to her (randomly) she took her time, discussed with me what I wanted and I could just tell she wasn't like all the others I had been to who just want to get it done and get you out of there. She works on weekends and I will never let anyone else touch my eyebrows ever again.
