I was new to threading when I went to get my eyebrows done with Mona. She was friendly. She asked what I had in mind, she did one eyebrow and told me to look. It was really nice! The place seems clean. And the couple of times I've been there Mona and Marya (I might be spelling their names wrong, sorry) have been very thorough and friendly. They give you a card that after coming 6x's the 7th is free. The great prices. It's exactly what they advertise on their website. No last minute surprises. As for the pain, I guess its different for everyone but I haven't seen painful reactions from other customers...and the job is done quick so no worries. The end results were exactly what I wanted. This is my second time going to Thread. The people are very professional and do their job well. I have a very scarce growth and so I thread my brows only once a month and am very particular about the way they are done. I try to stick to a set of hands to ensure good results. The only time that I have actually LOVED my brows was when they were done in California at Ziba and at StyleIndia in Dallas where I lived for a couple of months. So I am a very tough customer to please! When I read good reviews about Thread I decided to give it a try although I live in New Jersey and it's quite a distance. First time, I got them done by Karuna. I actually carry a pic of mine from the threading in Dallas, just to give the professional an idea of what I expect. Karuna saw the pic and started working on the right brow, she kept it thick and I wasn't that happy with the results, but when I asked her to take off some more hair and give it a nice arch, she did so for the left brow. She insisted that taking off more hair on the right brow would make it uneven. Overall I wasn't that satisfied with the result but it was better that the previous experience at Secaucus NJ where the lady messed up both brows. Yesterday I went to Thread and had them done by Mona. Mona took a step by step approach and gave my brow a different look. I liked it although it made my brows a little more thinner. I think that in my case I have to MAKE DO with a decent job and not expect the perfection from CA and TX eyebrow threaders. So long as my brows are not messed up. I have yet to find the best set of hands here for myself at Thread. But I would recommend this place to my friends for a clean decent job. read more

This is my "go-to" threading salon. The girls are very sweet, do an excellent job, and always check with me to see if I approve. Not only that, but it really doesn't hurt that bad at this location, not sure what their technique is, but i like it! I never have to wait long, but I do wish they stayed open a little bit longer. Thread was recommended to me by a friend of a friend when I first moved into the city 3 years ago. I have never been satisfied with my eyebrow shaping until I discovered Thread. That place is the absolute best in Manhattan. Everyone there that has done my eyebrows has done an excellent job but the best person there is Mona. Like a beacon of light, I saw this place in my most frustrated hour. Here is what happened... I desperately needed my eyebrows waxed. I wanted to go get them done however I could never figure out how to get the cab driver to take me to the place that I kept seeing in a flash when I would drive by (I'm not from NYC so I have no clue how to navigate right now). Unfortunately, I never had time to pull over when I was passing by, so I kept putting my unruly brows off. But when my eyebrows started getting out of hand and I couldn't take it anymore, I finally decided to try to direct the cab driver to take me to where I thought it was... only I was wrong because I suck royally at NYC! The cab driver was getting pissy with me and I gave up, exasperated, and had him take me back to my hotel. So anyway, to make a long story short(er),... I was so frustrated and I decided to go grab a bite to eat and calm myself down a bit. I went to a great sushi bar which I will be "yelping" about in a few too. While I was eating there... I started daydreaming and gazing out the window and low and behold, what do I see? Cue the music: I see... "The Eyebrow Salon". Wow! Talk about things happening for a reason. I'm so excited, I call them up and even on a Sunday night they are open until 7:30 pm. Yessss! So I went in and got my eyebrows done and I'm now going to be a customer of their salon every time I'm in NYC. While I was there, they asked where I had found them. I told them the story and they loved it. While I was relating my experience, another customer interjected. She told me don't go elsewhere, "They will butcher you!" she said... Good to know. So I'm glad to have found the "good place" in NYC and I will continue to give them my business from this point on. They did a great job! I have great eyebrows.. not meaning to brag but yea I do...So, you can imagine the extreme fear I have when trying to find a eyebrow threading salon that won't make me look like I went tweezer happy and filled in my brows with a sharpie. I had been going to one in queens ( where I live) for a few years and the woman was amazing . Then she married and left to india. The next lady made me cry for months and my eyebrows needed to grow back into some shape they had previously been ( yes she MESSED up majorly ) after looking like a cave woman for some time I looked into This place, Thread and gave it a shot . Maria has done my eyebrows since. She is great. I go every month to the city just for my eyebrows. There are 2 other woman that I may trust with them there also but have yet to. Come here if you want to leave with uneven brows. I have never had such a bad thread job in my life. My left eyebrow is only half of what it was and it isn't even with my right. I left in a hurry or I wouldn't have even tipped. I'm so disappointed especially after taking months to grow my brows out. Never coming back here again or any other locations. Thread is the only brow salon that I have been consistently going to for the past eleven years. I was first brought here by a former Bloomingdale's co-worker (who had the most immaculate eyebrows) because she was horrified that I did not know what threading was. Years later, I now feel horrified for anyone who does not know what or where Thread is. My first threading experience was not my last and over time I have even introduced friends to this place. Though not a convenient location, it's worth the schlep to east midtown because of the service and the women who are skilled at their craft. I can only speak to my experience of threading of brows, lips and sideburns and none of it was painful except for areas where you have not typically experienced threading or waxing. Each brow technician is very careful about how they do your brows based on how you preface the session with your expectations and desired end result. At time there can be language barriers, so it's best to make sure you're aligned. Through-out the session, you're not asked to do much of anything and they ask whether you're ok if they snip excess brow. While you sit up, they wait for you to observe and make sure you're okay with the end result before offering aloe. This is a pretty straight forward place for threading but if you need threading in other parts of the body, or even just a simple wax, Thread can take care of that. Their menu is clearly stationed in front and offered at the reception desk. Remember when you pay, you should ask for a card to track your visits and score a free brow thread. This place looked clean and is very close to my apartment so I tried it last night for a lip threading. Aside from the fact that the woman taking care of me had crumbs around her mouth, I was amazed how quickly and painless it was. Later in the night upon careful inspection I realized why it didn't hurt....She barely removed any hair!!!That makes me VERY ANGRY. The shaping was so-so, and I say this bc my eyebrows are slightly asymmetrical, so only someone who really knows what they're doing will catch this. However, $8 is a good deal. When I moved to midtown from Queens I left behind a gread threading place. I went to Thread solely on the recommendation of yelp, and was not dissapointed. I have to say it did hurt more then my old place, but I haven't been in a while so that may also be why. I didn't have to wait at all and she did a fantastic job. The lotion they use after is definetely oil of olay (it smells just like my mom!) which is good because I have sensitive skin and break out from products that aren't gentle enough or aren't oil free. I'm a really picky person so I get nervous whenever I go to new places, but i'll definitely go back here. read more

I come there every 2-3 weeks, which is my usual waiting period between eyebrow threading, and it's totally worth it. I have been getting my eyebrow threaded for years, and have always preferred it over waxing. Coming from San Francisco, I was used to paying $15 for eyebrows. A little on the expensive side, but I always came out with perfectly shaped eyebrows. When I moved to New York, I was thrilled to find out you can get your eyebrows threaded at half the price. Walking around the neighborhood, I came across Thread. While slighlty more expensive then the average shop, but it definitely looked more modern and cleaner than the rest. I have had mixed experiences here. I feel like they do the bare minimum to get you in and out, and hope that you are satisfied. While they do a decent job of threading the hairs, I always find spots that they have missed. They also don't really spend a whole lot of time shaping your eyebrows, and I almost think they bring out the brush and the scissors to make it seem like they are "Trimming" your eyebrows, when they really don't do much. But then again, what can I expect for $8 dollars. One thing learned here is to be very vocal with the ladies on what you want, and exactly how you want it done. Most of the time, it takes them a few tries to get there, but for the most part, I left the salon satisfied. read more

Very happy with the results here! My eyebrows were an absolute mess; one was completely overgrown, and the other was completely overplucked. I had a big interview coming up, so my eyebrows really needed to be fixed. I explained that I wanted to keep them as thick as possible while also evening them out, a task I originally thought would be impossible. Apparently not! After less than 5 minutes (of the least-painful threading I've ever experienced) I was shocked when I looked in the mirror to find that my eyebrows looked great. I've since gone back once to further return my eyebrows to their prior beauty. They are so great with reviving your eyebrows. They are great with shaping brows for your face shape too. It's so cheap ($7!) that I can go back often. Also, the 7th eyebrow threading is free with the card. It's so great because I can't do my eyebrows for my life, but I can come here every few weeks.
