If I lived in New York, I would definitely get my eyebrows done here! I was in town to see Hamilton and stayed in an AirBnB on this street. Prior to the trip, I didn't have time to schedule an appointment at my eyebrow place at home. Normally, I would be scared to get my eyebrows done at a new salon for such a special event, but because I have Yelp, I knew what to expect by reading the reviews and looking at photos! I went in as soon as they opened and was well taken care of. I loved how clean the place was and thought my eyebrows came out just as nice as when I get them done at home. Don't be scurrred! Sometimes this place is a hit or miss. I really like how Mona does my eyebrows because she is consistent, but I can't catch her that often. The other technicians are good, but not very consistent. Sometimes they seem a bit rushed but other times they put great care into my brows. They also recently raised their prices - it's now $10 to get your eyebrows threaded. I'll still return because I haven't found anyone better at a different salon, but I will probably start looking at other options. The service here is always good - I am always greeted and taken care of and there is hardly ever a wait. It just hurts a little to be paying $10 + tip for eyebrows when I am not always getting stellar results. read more

I've been searching for an eyebrow threading place near my office for a while now so that I don't have to go out of my way to my previous salon on the way home. The problem is, I am usually very picky about my eyebrows and always end up being dissatisfied while walking out of most places. This time, I showed Mona a picture of myself with the kind of eyebrows I like and used to have before another place botched them (I like them thick and long). She took her time removing one line of hair at a time (sometimes even just one hair at a time!) and consulted with me frequently before moving forward. Threaded my brows today - new to this and did not know what I wanted, however, the woman female staff was nice and reassured me that it would work out. They threaded my brows with thread by fining my brows and then shaping. It came out to $10 and only lasted for around 3 minutes. The only thing is that I wish I could have told them to fix up the middle and thread a bit more hair but again, on my end since I am totally new to this and next time I know. There was also a bit of hair still leftover that I should have said to be altered. I was afraid my brows would be threaded wrong or be messed up but it turned out great! Thank you. read more

I just have to talk about what a GREAT JOB NC did! The day before I gave birth it's I wanted to make sure I felt confident and manicured, so I came in for a Brazilian Waxing and couldn't have found a better place or better care than NC. I'd never gotten my eyebrows threaded before, so I did a ton of research online before I chose Thread. I also watched some online videos on threading in general on YouTube to see some before/afters and to see what exactly happens. I just needed some random spots to be taken care of underneath my eyebrows, and I also decided to do the full-face threading (including forehead, cheeks, chin, lip) because I wanted to look nice and fuzz-free for my upcoming graduation ceremony. I went in at around 3:30 on a Monday afternoon and the place was empty, no wait. A very nice lady sat me down in a chair that was reclined. I told her it was my first time getting it done. She asked me if I wanted my eyebrows thinner, and I said, "No. Just cleaned up." "Okay," she said. We then chatted about her family, New York, jobs, college, etc. It was really comfortable and the lady was just so sweet. She asked me to hold my eyelid taut at various times. The experience didn't hurt very much, it was more of a tickling. The parts around my hairline were the most painful, but after a while I got accustomed to it. There was a little redness when it was over (I have sensitive skin so was expecting much worse), but it wasn't too bad at all. HOWEVER, the whole time, I was reclined without a mirror to see the progress. When it was all over, I got up and my eyebrows were PENCIL THIN! My eyebrows were pretty my identical (or thinner) than the eyebrows of the six ladies that were working there. I should have taken that as an indication of how mine were going to come out. I specifically told her to NOT thin out my eyebrows, but it was like a cookie-cutter eyebrow. My eyebrows are usually naturally arched and medium in thickness (not ridiculously caveman-thick or anything). When I was all done, my eyebrows made me look startled/pissed and were much too thin (my Asian eyes looked TINY underneath them). They were much too arched, too skinny, and looked like a set of parentheses perched on top of my eyes. I think I looked shocked (either because that was my genuine reaction or because my eyebrows were so damn arched) because the lady kept asking me if I liked it. I thought to myself that maybe it was just because I was not used to seeing myself with thinner eyebrows and that it maybe wasn't so bad as I thought, so I said, "It's thinner than usual, but it's nice." Plus, my face felt smooth and looked okay otherwise. But after I got home, and now -- even a full week or so after I got it done -- I still look terrible. I suppose it will take at least a month or so until my natural brow shape comes back. My hairline behind my ears (where she also threaded) are uneven -- the right side is quite crooked. I'm mad at myself for paying about $30 for the entire experience and will not return. If I ever choose to get my eyebrows threaded again, I will make sure to explicitly tell the lady that I do NOT want comically thin eyebrows, and just want some stray hairs taken care of. **Last comment -- While the lady was threading the rest of my face, she paused momentarily and without warning dug her nails into my chin and popped a zit. As much as I appreciate the emergency dermatological procedure, she could have said something. Also, she did not wash her hands before she started on my face, nor did she wash her hands after (she immediately started to work on the next customer's face). I think that itself was a little barfworthy. Will not return, unfortunately. read more

I mistakenly reviewed this place a few months back (I had really gone to the less-sanitary competitor across the street). But Thread is awesome. No-frills, to be sure, but it's still has a simple, chic feel. And most important -- CLEAN. ($8 doesn't make up for getting grossed out by a place, but that's not the case here). It's also super-convenient to my office, so I can be in and out in 10 minutes with beautiful brows -- and still have time for lunch. Definitely go to Maria. She will take the time to discuss what you're looking for (in my case, it's natural, not-too-thin brows). She then threaded in a way that's better for me in the long run, explaining why she left a few spots with hair she wanted me to grow in (as opposed to taking the easy way out and giving me short-term symmetrical but less long-term flattering brows). Does that make any sense? Anyway, after a few visits, I love the results. P.S. Ladies, isn't it fascinating how we can obsess about a topic like eyebrows? I know my man doesn't get it (and probably wouldn't notice if I never tweezed again), but it's truly amazing how a nice arch can frame the face! :-) read more

I do personally prefer this thread over the one in Financial District. I live in Battery park so the Financial district one is definitely more easy to get to. I have been to the one in East Village (and personally prefer to go to that location whenever I find myself in the area). One of the difference that I find in this location and the one in East Village is the girls really take the time to thread properly. With the exception of Aarti at the Fidi location, all the other girls are in a mad rush to do a quick job at the expense of quality. I would highly recommend coming to this location or the one in East Village. read more

I dont get how it works. These nice ladies take a piece of thread ( yes, thread, hence the verb "threading") and twist it around your face for about 10 mins and then rub some cooling lotion on it, and then you walk back to your office, and no one mistakes you for Groucho Marks. I like a more natural brow, and the ladies do me right every time. Its inexpensive for a brow and upper lip thread. Whatever, im not ashamed, yes i get my upper lip threaded. I took an extra sensitive, princess white girl co worker here for a lip thread also, and she was pink for about a 1/2 hr. Eventually it went down, but Ive seen similar skins get super blotchy and irritated from wax, so Im thinking threading is the way to go. The price is right! and they are very good about punchin your hairy beast card. Clean, fast and inexpensive. thread away, you crazy diamonds. read more

After a few great experiences here, I have decided never to go again after my most recent visit. I have my face - not my brows - threaded and this is usually not a traumatic experience. However, on 12/15/07, the woman who took care of me went over the same places on either side of my jawline multiple times. I mean, there wasn't that much hair there. The next day I was completely broken out and looked like I had a beard of zits. And they hurt. Which means they're bacterial. This was really disappointing (and it cost $27 which seems wrong since $27 is supposed to include brows and my brows were untouched) particularly because (1) it's the holidays and who needs blemish beard during the festive time of year and (2) Thread is the only threading establishment I've found that doesn't seem like a sweatshop. Proceed at your peril - or stick with brows, which my friends have been pleased with. read more

After looking at glowing yelp recommendations, I decided to try out this place yesterday. I have really sensitive skin and I mentioned it to them when I walked in, but, the lady pretty much turned a deaf ear to me with an attitude like...yeah, yeah...I've heard, everyone claims to have sensitive skin. Anyway, I got my eyebrows threaded and upper lip waxed. Okay job on the threading (more painful than what I have had in India). Since, the eyebrow threading experience was so painful and the technician seemed less experienced, I requested them to wax my upper lip instead. Despite my concerns of waxing twice, the lady assured me it was alright, continued with waxing second time to catch the remaining hair, scarred my upper lip and now I am walking around with what looks like a battle wound on my lip. Conclusion: Don't go here if you have sensitive skin. read more

Love Thread - very economical for a great result ($8 for eyebrows) I always try to get Sabu to do my brows. She's awesome! For some reason, it doesn't hurt as much when she threads, and she lets me look carefully at her work, and is happy to adjust if needed. The aloe lotion that they massage onto your skin afterwards feels amazing. The most I've ever had to wait is 5 minutes, which is great - and I never make an appointment. read more

I got my eyebrows threaded here yesterday for the first time on a recommendation from my co-worker. I am SUPER paranoid about who does my eyebrows. (It all started the week before the Jr. prom in High School when I just went to get my eyebrows cleaned up and I ended up looking like a Klingon!) And I digress...anywho, got my eyes done here yesterday with Mona. With minimal pain and nimble fingers she threaded my brows to near perfection...and all for $8!!! For the past two years I have been paying $55 at the infamous J Sisters Salon to get my brows done! Shh...don't tell my Brazilian lovelies that I am cheating on them:0 Thread recently opened in Murray Hill and is quickly building a fan base so strike while the thread is hot and get there! I love my eyebrows and I wanted to try threading. Needless to say, I did a lot of research weighing the pros and cons of each salon recommended here by my fellow yelpers. I decided to go with Thread because it was convenient and seemed to get overall decent reviews. I walked in (with my heart racing a million miles a minute, afraid I'd walk out with non-existent eyebrows) and was immediately seated on a Saturday afternoon. I told her it was my first time and that I liked them thickish without too much shaping. The lady herself had eyebrows similar to mine, which gave me hope I might not walk out of there with miniscule eyebrows. 10 minutes (maybe less) later I sit up and *wow*, I'm sold! It wasn't that painful, and I have dark and thick hairs. I'll be back again and for $8 it may be the one instance where you get more than you pay for!! read more

Okay, so I fiiiinally decided to take the recommendations of three of my co-workers and not just give threading a try but give Thread a try. Cruised on over, realized they only took cash and sprinted down the street to the ATM. But at prices for $8 for your eyebrows...hmm! Can we say "affordable?" Anyway, I totally brought along Christina C. to hold my hand and keep me distracted which turned out to not be necessary at all. The girl did a rocking good job and I've since been back. No more waxing my eyebrows for this girl! Now I have gotten nipped a bit, but nothing a little neosporin doesn't clear right up. And it lasts much, much longer. They're super-nice in there and you even get one of those "frequent patron" cards which gets you a free threading down the line. I have yet to try the other "services" but will keep ya'll posted... read more

If you saw me 15yrs ago, you would notice i had caterpillar eyebrows. If you saw me about 6 months ago, you would think I'm always surprised - thats b/c I over plucked my own dang caterpillars and ended up looking surprised all the time! But oh-i suffer no more b/c my gf introduced me to this lovely shop that takes care of my "Bert & Ernie" look in about 5 minutes. This place is a quick, get-the-job-done joint that I default to when I'm in need of some eyebrow maintenance. It seems I'm not the only one who thinks so, because whenever I come here, there's always people. What I like about them is they are affordable and efficient. I've gotten my legs waxed here last minute and they did a decent job. NYC is ridden with threading salons and this block is no exception. There's actually another salon right across the street from this place. That salon looked pretty grimy though so I decided to pay the extra $2 at Thread. There was a wait of about two girls ahead of me and after I arrived more soon started pouring in. There were plenty of women working to churn out the quick forming line though. Everything looked clean and sleek inside. The woman I had worked carefully but swiftly. After doing my brows she said, "shall I do your lip?" Duly noted! When someone asks you this just say YES! Was in and out in less than five minutes. Almost wasn't given a frequent buyer card! Had to ask for it. I will be back to use up my six visits for a free eyebrow threading! read more

These girls know eyebrows!!! They do a great job at plucking just the right amount of brow to leave you with perfect arches. I've been "threading" for about 10 years now and this is definitely one of the better places I've been to. It's close to my job, they service you quickly and you get free eyebrow pluck on your 7th visit. It costs about $8 vs prices in queens of $6. I'd rather pay an extra $2 to have perfect brows. All the ladies are great but I recommend Maria (I think thats her name) and a younger girl whose name I don't know. It does sting a little since they're ripping out a bunch of hairs at once with the thread but they give you Kraft caramels at the end of your service to forget the pain...think of them as the eyebrow doctors : D They also do a mini brow massage with calming lotion after they pluck which feels great. I've also done lip wax here and I think its also very good, I've never gotten a rash with their wax but have had rashes at other places. Love them! read more

Though it's not perceptible from my Yelp default pic, I have freakishly thick, Neaderthalesque eyebrows in its natural state. If it weren't for Thread, I would be a sight for sore eyes. This place is a real gem; it is sanitary, cheap ($8) and efficient (I'm in and out for a brow threading within 10 minutes). If all of that wasn't incentive enough to try it, you get a punch-card to receive a free threading after 7 or 8 threading sessions. Additionally the staff is pleasant and they cater to your specific desires (e.g. I prefer to keep mine on the thicker side with a natural arch and it comes out right EVERY TIME). RUN HERE if you want cheap yet gorgeously groomed eyebrows. read more

I've been getting threaded for over 7 years, and this might be the most posh threading location I've ever seen. Bright lights, lots of mirrors, stainless steel finish all over the place. The staff was no nonsense and I was in and out of the chair in a matter of minutes. As for the pain issue, look people - sometimes you gotta suffer a bit for beauty. This just takes a lot less suffering than waxing. Nothing ripping your skin off or screwing up your eyebrows. Threading is faster and provides a cleaner result than waxing.... plus, you can quickly walk out the door without those tell-tale red splotches all over your face. read more

It is $1 more than other places - actually there is a place across he street that is $2 cheaper, but $8 is still pretty affordable and you get a clean and modern atmosphere with music to soothe your pain. And get a card so you can get your 8th one for free. And they charge $1 extra for cc transaction. There is typically a line but these ladies work fast. Each person is about 5 minutes and there are typically 4 ladies so definitely quick turnover. So far the result has been acceptable but nothing spectacular. I always felt like the ladies are never happy with any tip you give them. read more

I like this place for 3 reasons: 1. Sterile environment. I hate getting any 'beauty' work done in a place that looks disgusting and uninviting. Thread is definitely not like that. Oh, and they use really flattering lighting. 2. The frequent customer card. As if their prices weren't low enough to begin with, you get a freebie thread after 7 visits. 3. They don't laugh at you when your eyes start watering from the pain. VERY IMPORTANT, as I always cry. In fact, they have a handy supply of Kleenex, presumably just for you. So, this is what I get for "cheating" on my hairdresser back home. I went to Thread to get my eyebrows threaded yesterday after reading the nice reviews on here. I've never had my eyebrows threaded before, usually I just get them waxed because I can't pluck (it makes me sneeze!) and I actually LIKE getting them waxed. I hadn't had them waxed for almost 2 months and they were taking over my face. As I said, I've never had a threading done before and I was surprised at how PAINFUL it was. Seriously, just punch me in the face instead. Usually, I can handle pain, I mean, I enjoy getting them waxed, but this--this was just...ouch. Maybe I'm being a wuss, but holy crap. (and I understand it could just be because I haven't had them done in 2 months, but still!) The service here was ok. The receptionist was VERY helpful and informative and I'd like to give an extra star just for her, but I just can't. I called beforehand to make sure they take walk-ins and she made sure I knew exactly how to get there and the exact address so I wouldn't miss it. She told me about the card you get so after you get 7 threadings/waxes done, you get a free eyebrow thread. The young woman who did my eyebrows wasn't very friendly. I sat down, she did her thing, didn't ask questions or anything. She didn't ask how I wanted them to look . My eyes watered and she didn't offer a tissue (and I didn't see any ANYWHERE). I paid $8 for the threading and my eyebrows look clean, but there's barely any shape to them. I don't think I'll be back here, but understand that %50 of that decision is based on the pain involved and I know a lot of people don't think it's that painful. read more

I thought this place did a good job (eyebrows were even) but they were kind of harsh and my skin was red after. I used to always go to Shobha which does a great job but is $20. Then I started going to Unique Threading on 23rd which is good and cheap ($8) but not convenient for me anymore. I go to this place because it's in a good location for me but I wouldn't go out of my way to go here. If you're in the neighborhood and are looking for a good cheap place I would recommend this. I am so so very pleased with my sharply cleaned eyebrows. You have no idea. I've never had my eyebrows done before - - EVER - - (no waxing or plucking my entire life!) but wanted to clean up for an upcoming gala event. I made sure to tell the ladies I wanted to maintain my natural shape and I did NOT want pencil thin eyebrows. Well my threader was awesome - - very quick and courteous, she even stopped after the first brow for me to see before proceeding to the next one. It did not hurt at all (a few stings but the entire thing takes maybe 10 minutes max to finish) and it only cost me $8. I had so much anxiety about walking into Thread (fearing that I would walk with a bald forehead) and I'm so happy to report a great experience. I started going to Thread when I lived in the neighborhood a couple of years ago. I've since moved to the Village where I have another threading place literally right outside my door and I still make the trek back to 33rd street in order to go to Thread. I have really sensitive skin so that's why I started to get my eyebrows threaded instead of waxed. I don't find it any more painful than getting waxed and unlike waxing, which would leave me red for at least 12 hours and cause me to break out, threading redness usually goes away within the hour and rarely do I get any break outs. Even though a different person threads me nearly every time I go there, I'm always happy with the result. The staff has always been nice and the shop is cute. read more

My first experience with Thread was at their downtown location on Nassau St, and I was very pleased with the results -- so pleased, that I immediately decided to become a regular! Since their loyalty card can be used at any of their locations, I wanted to check out this one on 33rd since it's far more convenient to where I work and also to where I drop off my rent once a month. I can't say I was as thrilled with the results as I was at 140 Nassau. My eyebrows still needed a bit more trimming after, and my arches aren't as defined as I usually keep them. It also felt like the woman who worked on me this time was pulling too hard or something; it felt more like something was scraping against my skin. But all was 100% fine afterwards! No breakouts, and my skin actually lost the redness pretty quickly. It just wasn't as perfect as when Sam at 140 Nassau did my brows. And the general consensus that Thread is clean, competent, quick, and inexpensive is just as true here. I'm sure I'll be here again. read more
