I went here for happy hour with co workers on St. Patty's and had a great time. The Doug's old fashioned was my go to drink and it was delicious. Strong and smelled like banana bread - YUM! We ordered a few plates the share - bulgogi fries (meat was tender and the seasoning paired perfectly with the freshly fried potatoes) and hummus (it wasn't too bad, fresh and a great veggie option). A few friends ordered the hot honey truffle wings and they said they were really good. Our waiter was a total sweetheart, so service wasn't too bad for a holiday. Ended our night at Cry Baby for a scoop of ooey gooey - perfect combo of savory and sweet in an ice cream. Cry baby has perfected that to a science. I went in for the Cry Baby Ice cream and found a new cocktail bar I love! This hidden gem is around the corner from a post office, so a bit tricky to find if you don't have a gps. However parking is easy (you can validate for up to 3 hrs inside the bar). Additionally, probably one of the best happy hours in westchester! 3-7pm mon.-fri. And most dishes are $15 and under and you get some delicious dishes. A medium size pizza with a dough that was amazingly tasty and wood oven cooked with fresh ingredients was $10 during happy hour. The staff is always super friendly, and the service is great! The crowd is great for making new friends. I love their happy hour with a variety of seasonal drinks - and let me tell you, they get creative! The food was amazing, I highly recommend trying their pizza and burgers. The ambiance is just right, with perfect lighting and eclectic furniture, making it the perfect spot for date night. Parking is paid for up to three hours. Possibly the cheapest happy hour in Miami; for now. Hence an extra star. Thorn is located between two brand new apartment buildings across from AD Doug Barnes park. Parking is severely limited next to the location, with a new overflow dirt parking lot. Both are private pay to park. Better option is to Uber there. Reservations as of this writing are by calling ahead. On weekends this is a must. Service is glacial but super friendly. The drinks are great, but top shelf is limited (ie no Grey Goose or Hendricks). The draw--for me--are the dollar oysters. You can't get enough! Unfortunately they have one shucker and he was overwhelmed on a Friday night. So much so that we never ordered a second round of a dozen. The food is typical bar food with a wide selection and again the draw: cheap. We had a meat ball (very small not a Doc Bs meatball), pizza (good) and burger (ok). All very cheap. Fridays they have a DJ that played a nice mix. The crowd is super eclectic with a good mix of Gables, Westchester and South Miami residents and students. These prices won't last for long. So if they raise the prices, then correspondingly the service, food, and selection have to correspondingly increase and be better. Otherwise, it's just a three star bar at the fringes of the Gables/South Miami food area with Gables prices and a loss of that star. read more

Thorn is a true Miami gem. The food (whether oysters, croquetas, or anything in between) is delicious and well prepared, and the bartenders are obviously passionate about their craft. And don't get me started with the food. I haven't tried anything on the menu I didn't like. They have amazing happy hour Monday through Friday from 3 to 7. Also have amazing brunch, Saturdays and Sundays from 11 to 3. Just make sure to get there early because it gets packed on weekends. They usually have live DJs on the weekends too and the music is on point. They also do sports events. You have to pay for parking but they validate for 3 hours. Quick little date night idea. Decided to stop by for the second time and I was hoping the menu would have changed/improved being that I was last here months again. To my surprise, it was still About the same thing. Due to my negative experience with the wings, i was limited on options (i do not eat beef or pork). Figured you can't really mess up a Margherita pizza so i ordered that. I came on a Sunday night and even one of the employees said it's not that busy. You would think drinks/food would be coming out fast or at least the cocktail. Unfortunately, everything took about 25 minutes or more. I didn't mind spending 2 hours but it realistically could've been done in a much shorter time span. Our server was very friendly though and made sure we had everything we needed including water. I don't think I'd come back again in a while. The one part that really makes the night worth it was the live DJ. He was mixing good jams and I appreciated the vibe he set. Came to thorn for the first time since my friend has been talking about how amazing the food is here. I liked the place however did not have the best experience with the food or maybe my palate is not as adventurous as I thought. We ordered the chicken wings and the Cauliflower from the menu. Can not say enough positive things about Thorn. The food was tasty on point and the cocktail were to die! Our bartender Chib was fantastic. She took great care of us made wonderful suggestions and was a master at crafting a cocktail. The decor is sleek but warm and inviting, lots of outdoor green space coming through the larger window/door spaces. We ate both east and west coast oyster and they were incredibly fresh and shucked to perfection, no shell bit's whatsoever! We ate the Cesar salad which was perfectly dressed and very delish. Then we shared the churrasco steak and potatoes which was chefs kiss delish. The dessert sealed the deal for our return a bread pudding with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and Carmel drizzle...drooling thinking about it! So excited this place exists in my neighborhood, not stuffy and pretentious only good vibes their entire staff was friendly.
