This is one of the few times Yelp has let me down. I guess just a very off night, but what this placed served us for take out was not good at all. My drunken noodle had zero flavor and the noodles themselves were not even pan fried with any sauce. A couple small pcs of basil. Zero flavor. The Pad Thai was loaded with just as much sprouts as noodles. My kid hated it and it also have very little flavor. My Mom had to recook and add spices to her spicy chicken basil dish (zero spice). The only one somewhat happy with their meal was my wife and her dish cost $22. Dumplings were not dumplings, but shumai and the minced chicken had water chestnuts in the mix too, so an odd crunch to them. $81 total for take out and I feel so ripped off. Don't judge a book by it's cover. This place on the outside looks like one of those questionable places. The food here is awesome. It's not the best Thai food I've ever as but it's damn good for such a small little unimpressive place. The dumplings are not what I expected but they may be my favorite dumplings I've ever had. The Pad Thai was everything I expected Pad Thai to be. My favorite item on the menu I think is the Pineapple rice. The old man who runs the place is quite a colorful character. The people here are very friendly which is why it pains me to say that I would never come back. The $50 worth of food was nowhere near the quality I would expect; The calamari had a heavy fishiness to it, both in smell and flavor, & a tad chewy. The drunken noodle dish lacked a sauce and flavor that traditionally is easy to avoid, the veggies weren't fresh and the chicken was extremely chewy. The Massaman curry being a big favorite for me at most Thai places really fell short, the broth tasted great but again, the chicken was super chewy and the potatoes were bland. No peanut, and it tasted to us like it was all cooked separately and then reheated together upon ordering. The dumpling had an odd texture and the sauce tasted too... maple-y. Not a fan of this place at all, I'll keep traveling to Island is for now. read more

I used to really love ordering from here because the food is great but the past few times the service has been incredibly slow and they up charge 3 times more than what their menu says online. I placed an order for 2 curries and waited over an hour for them just to find out my total was $60. That's unheard of for takeout. Now, I'm no expert in Thai food, so I don't have too much to compare this to, but I will say I enjoyed my meal and appetizer from Thongpanchang! My friend and I had a standard, "what you would expect" takeout dinner from here last night. I ordered over the phone and picked up the food about 20 minutes later. The service was friendly and quick, so no complaints there. The spring rolls were yummy and bite-sized, and the peanut curry sauce on my Amazing Rama dish was very tasty. The portion sizes were about what you would expect. For whatever reason I felt the meals were a little expensive, but again I don't have a ton of experience ordering Thai. All in all, if I'm home and looking to broaden my Thai food pallet, I'll be ordering from here again. (And eventually visiting for real to get the full experience.) read more

Hi Folks, Welcome to Bluepoint Long Island located just west of Patchogue. My Friend and I stopped at "Thongpanchang Thai". For our Sunday night dinner. What a cute little Homespun place. It was almost like a dining in Mom's kitchen. I loved the cool colorful decor here, the owner was so nice and accommodating. I wish the food could have equalled their hospitality and aviance. We ordered the chicken satay apps to start. The Hot tender chicken morsels were wonderfully marinated and cooked to Juicy perfection. Served as 4 kabobs They paired perfectly with their creamy peanut sauce. We were really hopeful that the rest of the meal would be as good. Next up, the Thai Iced Teas. These were also outstanding, layered with sweet Cocoanut milk. They were served in frosted glasses loaded with ice, they were very refreshing but gone in a few sips. We really should have left at this point, it was all downhill from here. The main dishes arrived, We had ordered The Shrimp pad Thai and The spicy Chicken Prik King & String bean. We noticed our meals didn't look like they should. My friend's Meal consisted of frozen green beans & overcooked pieces of chicken. Tasting the meal, I could see right away that it was off in flavor. It wasn't hot and spicy and was minus the Thai complexities. I felt so bad that my friend's meal was less than expected. He couldn't finish it. I ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai noodles. Unfortunately, my meal was bland and without flavor. The pad thai noodles were half hard and half mushy. At first I thought it was cooked al dente but then I realized it was old pasta cooked hours ago, sat around got hard on the ends. Served with a peanut sprinkle, but without the nice piece of lime. My Pad Thai had a few small shrimp tossed in. I fished the shrimp out and dunked them in the peanut sauce, but I didn't finish the pasta. I apologized to my friend for the quality of the food here tonight as I picked the spot. We got some hot jasmine tea for dessert. The folks were just so very nice and the courteous here and service was wonderful. The food was uninspiring. Three stars to be nice. Sorry friends, I can't recommend this cute & cosy spot. read more

Had a very nice takeout experience here today. Service was quick and friendly. Appetizers of spring rolls and fried tofu were of good quality and plentiful. Ordered the Tofu Rama which was excellent. Brown rice was better than most. The other dish, (admittedly not remembering its name) was a chicken and veg dish that was very fresh and full of flavor. Sauces on the side were also of high quality. Thongpanchang is memorable because our waiter and I talked tattoos. He had a small piece on his arm which had something to do with him being raised in a Buddhist Monastery. I have mine from years of being a rowdy punk rocker and former Marine. The decor was nice and the ambiance was special, small and a happy vibe. The food had to have been a different region of Thai than I am accustomed to or perhaps the Chef was trying something different. Not as sweet as usual with Pad Thai. I'd recommend it. Holy crap, I've lived in the area for almost two years and driven by this place almost EVERY DAY, but have avoided dining here because of the some what dingy appearance from the street. Big mistake. Huge. Papya salad: out of control. Sweet and savory and crunchy and so good! Vegetarian peanut curry: mind blowing. Perfect amount of spice with huge chunks of avocado and tofu among the standard mixed veg. Pineapple fried rice: light and fluffy with great sweetness. Not over-fried or downing in wok oil. Thai iced tea seems not nearly as creamy as most preparations I've previously had...maybe using regular milk instead of condensed? Don't put it off any longer! I was never much of a fan of Thai food. Perhaps the other times I ventured into this arena I made poor selections, or maybe the restaurants weren't very good.... The wife and I have very hectic schedules, and we frequently get takeout. I was so tired of all of our regular choices, and I had a desire to try somewhere/something different. I figured it was time to give Thai food another shot.... I am so happy I did. I am now a big fan. Thonpanchang is a great hidden treasure. Do not blink when you are looking for it because you may very well miss it. Once you find it, you will never forget where it is. Simply stated, the food was amazing. We didn't get too adventurous, and ordered up Beef Satay(sp?), Spicy Chicken Salad, and of course we had to try the Chix Pad Thai..... It was all amazingly fresh and delicious.... Ordered two dishes this evening and found pieces of plastic in BOTH dishes. We called the restaurant back simply to let them know so they could be more cautious with future orders - we didn't ask for a refund and explained that we live 20 minutes away so we didn't want to drive back and get new dishes. The woman who answered the phone hung up on our first call. We shrugged it off and just said whatever we'll never go back. She then called us back and said she was making new dishes- we explained again that we weren't going to drive back and said maybe a different night. She then asked which dish it was in and when we told her both, she nastily told us that was impossible. Extremely rude, terrible service, and before we even found the disgusting plastic mixed in with the noodles, the food sucked. Was absolutely not even planning on writing a review until she called us back and essentially called us liars. Tasteless and overpriced. Sorry, but save your money and go elsewhere. read more

We ordered four items here and nothing tasted Thai. Thai should be complex blend of sweet, sour, spicy, and salty in EVERY dish. The only flavor present in the dishes we ordered was salty. Nothing tasted bad, but nothing tasted good either. We had curry that was watery, the basil vegetable dish that had no basil and no flavor. It was basically sauteed vegetables with soy sauce. We had drunken noodles that were mushy/overcooked. And we had a vegetable tofu dish that came with soft tofu instead of fried hard tofu. Very underwhelming, and definitely not Thai. We ordered dishes that were supposed to be spicy, but there was no spice (or flavor) to be found. Possibly they have to tone down the spice and the flavor and the authenticity for an all white clientele? read more

Recently ordered takeout from here. First of all, it was really expensive. 50 bucks got us an order of Red Curry with beef. Chicken Pad Thai, an order of the Thai Spring Rolls and a Thai Iced Tea. I can't speak for the curry or the tea as I didn't try it but I was told it was just "eh". The spring rolls were awesome which is why I'm giving an extra star. They were mini- like the size of cocktail weenies and I'd say about 10 came to an order- they were nice and crispy and the plum sauce for dipping was really good. I had the Pad Thai and it was just awful. The noodles were tough and cold and sticky, as if they were steamed. There was absolutely no sauce at all on these noodles and a few crumbles of peanuts, and just like the noodles, the chicken that came with it was also very dry and flavorless. We ordered from here because our normal place was closed. I don't think we'll be coming back here again. read more

Good atmosphere and Thai cuisine here. . . Thongpanchang is a small storefront operation in a shopping center that sits pretty much just accross a sidewalk from 27A. Mostly take-out, but has a nice, hand painted dining room with some ambient lighting, though I wouldn't recommend large parties. Good soups (the tom yum goong is not too limey, but is spicy, oily, and fishy, with a chopped up mushroom, cilantro leaves, and a few shrimps). Appetizers of spring rolls, dumplings or fried bean curd all check out okay. Take-out entrees come in 1qt. containers, with a side of rice, and are enough to split. I've had the pad thai, and both the chicken mango and panang currys (I get the "two friend," with chicken and shrimp). They also offer a vegetarian menu (see pics), can adjust the degree of "hot and spicy" dishes to your liking, and don't use MSG. If you are a regular or order a bit, they may slip you a cold bottle of Singha "on the house," to wash it all down. read more

So, as loyal customers to Thai Angel and Lawan, we decided to try this place based on the decent reviews. I must say, pretty disappointed. We ordered the Pad Thai with Chicken, and it was basically boring. Bland, kind of dry, just not great. Not worth getting again. We also tried the Pad See Ew, and it was again, boring. Just lacking flavor and vegetables. Not worth getting again. Also tried the Tom Ka Kai (Chicken Coconut Soup). This soup tasted like watery mushroom broth. Like a clear mushroom soup you would get at a Japanese restaurant, but with a slightly milky colored broth. Much, much, much better at Thai Angel or even Raan Thai. I ended up throwing out all of the dishes...terrible. As I had high hopes of trying this place, I am deeply disappointed. If you know good thai, you will agree that this place is no better than a Chinese takeout restaurant. They didn't even have the heat on in the place when it was freezing outside. Hello? My wife and I have been coming here for years. Never been disappointed Thai coffees to start and sticky rice with mango for dessert are ways our first and last courses. I like the pineapple fried rice and sometimes we split a shrimp, avocado, and potato soup that sounds like "Masi Maso?" . The couple who own it are the most humble welcoming people I have ever met. I have always wanted to try this place, but somehow never got to it. I don't know why, but shame on me for letting this little delight slip by for way too long. Decided to "take out" from them last night. Based on some reviews I read here to get an idea of what to order. For myself, I chose the shrimp pad thai. Hubby decided on the Rama chicken, which is served with a side of plain jasmine rice. My shrimp pad Thai had a delicious flavor. There were 4 nice sized shrimp tucked under wonderful rice noodles, bean sprouts and chopped peanuts. I was sad that it wasn't "wetter". There needed to be more sauce as a dish on its own. My husband ordered an extra side of peanut sauce which came in handy. I used it up on my dish, and it needed the whole little cup. Now, Rama chicken. What can I say? I ate a lot of that dish despite my husbands puppy dog eyes pleading for me to leave his dinner alone. The chicken and sauce was outrageous. The jasmine rice was fluffy - not starchy and sticky, and was a wonderful addition to the dish that was - did I mention, "oh so yummy"? The bed of broccoli that the dish sits upon was steamed to a crisp, but not so crispy that if feels like it wasn't even cooked. We also ordered the spring rolls. Not realizing that one order had about 10 little spring rolls in each; one order would have been more than sufficient for the two of us. The gingered honey dipping sauce was so good! The spring rolls were a big big hit! We also ordered the fried calamari appy. It was really good. Not your standard "restaurant depot" frozen bag thrown in a fryer. These were strips that had a thick, dense coating. The meat itself was tender and light. No chewy gummy rings that we have all endured. The owner was so sweet that he sent my husband on his way with an icy cold Thai iced tea "on the house". Looking at it in the cup, it reminded me of orange sherbet that had melted, and then to sip it was a totally different thing. It was cold - and I mean cold despite not having ice cubes in it. It was awesome. I have no idea what the flavor infusions are, but I didn't mind repeatedly sipping and palette smacking to try and figure it out. Before I knew it, I drank just about the whole cup! The owners also sent the hubster on his way with a Thai inspired beer. I tucked that sucker away, but look forward to giving it a whirl, undoubtedly when we order from here again......and again. I love this place more than words can express. I want to tout them to anyone willing to listen. This is a small, easy to overlook storefront operation in Blue Point. I recently dined there and the food was even better than the takeout we frequently enjoy. Our favorite is the tamarind crispy duck. We pretty much love every one of the appetizers. The mango and sticky rice dessert is something we cannot wait to dive into, despite how full we are from dinner. Their thai iced tea is great too--the owner will sometimes throw you an extra. It's like a Chinese take out place, but it's very clean and cozy. They put effort in the space they have. If you take out the food will still be excellent, but I recommend eating in because the take out containers steam the food and it's not as good as being served the fresh plate.
