Went for dinner with a friend and we both were pleasantly surprised! The staff were very friendly, the atmosphere was nice, but the star of the show was most definitely the food!! My friend and I both ordered the dinner special which came with 2 bao, a side and a beverage. All around a great deal for the price! We will return to try some of their other offerings!!

Asian fusion take on fried chicken sandwiches! Ambience: if you aren't paying attention, you would think you are at Chipotle. Looks like they got the same interior decorator. We ordered: Original - fried dark meat chicken served between bao (steamed asian bread). Fluffy moist bread perfectly complements the crunchy flavorful chicken. 4/5 Five Spice fries - the five spice powder overpowers the flavor of the fries. It's over-seasoned. 2/5

This was my first time here and I really enjoyed! I've never had bao before so I didn't know what to expect. I went with the bird box which includes 2 baos, fries, and a drink. They have many different flavor options for the buns which I appreciate. I went with the banzo and the nutty professor. The banzo was my favorite. It is a falafel based bun. Both buns had so much flavor from all the different ingredients paired together. The fries were five spice and paired with a chili mayo. For my drink, I chose a house dragon iced tea and all I can say is wow! The flavor was so unique and this was such a tasty drink. The sweetness of it was perfect too. The whole restaurant is trendy and they have great music too. I will definitely be back!

The food is yummy. But that's not even the best thing about the restaurant. Its a very chill relaxed atmosphere. Even if they didn't sell yummy food I would still enjoy hanging out there. The lady at the front is always very polite and very knowledgeable about menu recommendations. Their popcorn chicken rivals KFCs. If you work in the area, take a break from the office and enjoy yourself a tasty treat. I think the lady at the front curates the music playlist to compliment the overall experience. A+

Service: Nice. The girl at the counter explained all of the buns that were offered and recommended the items to get. Food: Fries- Different. I wish there was more salt and the flavor was a bit off. The five spice hits you in the back of the throat. All buns: Mid. I thought every single bun I tried missing balance. It was either, under salted, too much vinegar, or need sweetness to round it out. On to my next food adventure...

The Crunch (left), the Blackbird (right), and Nashville Hot.

Instagram told me to come get bao, and it was the right decision! The small menu they had meant that every single item was prepared carefully and it was all amazing! We tried The Blackbird, Nashville Hot, Crunch, and Sweet Heat. All were really good: blackbird was a savory soy sauce that paired really well with the pickled onions. Nashville had some kick, though not as much as you would normally expect from Nashville hot sauces drenched chicken. The Crunch was delicious shredded pork in a delicious slightly sweet sauce, and Sweet heat was gochujang type sauce that was sweet and spicy with pickled dikon and carrots that was probably my personal favorite. We also ordered the Brussels sprouts, (maybe my fav side) which were sweet and savory and perfectly cooked. Shishito peppers were back as of 8/9/24, so we got them and it was very good, not hella spicy like they can sometimes be. Im not a huge cucumber fan, but the smashed cucumbers in a chili crunch type marinade was really refreshing, and we def took the leftover sauce home to make a cucumber salad later! The cinnamon sugar fried s'more bao was so damn delicious... 'nough said friends. Long story long- you definitely want to try everything here!

The OG, Nashville Hot, Burgerbao, Blackbird, Nutty Professor, Sweet Heat, Patchog and Crunchbao

Bird and Bao is a wonderful addition to downtown Patchogue! Their buns are delicious and creative with a wide selection of flavors to choose from. We ordered almost the entire menu -- The OG, Nashville Hot, Burgerbao, Blackbird, Nutty Professor, Sweet Heat, Patchog and Crunchbao. If I had to choose a favorite it would probably be the Crunchbao, but they are seriously all incredible!

    Cute.

Despite living close to Patchogue, I don't find myself exploring their restaurant options as frequently as I could be. Though back in June when I was down in the area to go to Record Stop (it's an obsession), my wife and I decided to grab some grub and our delicious choice was Bird & Bao. Now just in case you have no clue about what a Bao is, just think of a bun of sorts. B&B specializes in this Asian style bread-like dumpling and then uses some contemporary comfort and American tastes to create an interesting menu of Bao choices using fried dark meat chicken and several other options along with a variety of bites. When we entered this relatively small spot the girl behind the counter was friendly enough to explain the menu, popular choices, and their Bird Box deal (2 bao, fries, and a drink for $18). Price-wise, it just makes sense to go with those boxes (if you're planning on eating there and getting a drink) and so my wife and I each ordered it, grabbed a spot to sit, and waited for our food to be ready. Not long after, our table was donned with our four baos, two fries, and our drinks (which we had already gotten out of the fridge). They make house made limeade and dragon iced tea (one is red, the other white) which were delicious. For the fries, you can get original spuds that are just salted and come with a side of chili mayo, but there are also five spice fries which I had to try. The spices were definitely exotic as there was some sweetness and maybe a little zing to them. I can't say I was in love with the flavor, but I also couldn't stop eating them. Love-hate relationship? Now for the bao. I went for the OG (because ya gotta go with what started it all) which consisted of crispy chicken, chili mayo, cabbage, coriander, and peanut. This combo was quite tasty and had a vibe of comfort food as I noshed on it. My second bao was a little wilder as I went with The Nashville Hot, a bun filled with crispy chicken, chili mayo, spicy togarashi oil, and black vinegar pickles. There definitely was a little heat to this one to give it some spice, but proclaiming that "Nashville Hot" name it could've been a little spicier. For my wife she went with The Blackbird (crispy chicken, black vinegar glaze and black sesame, pickled red onion, chili mayo, coriander, and peanut) which had a nice tang of flavor, and a non-chicken choice in The Burgerbao. This was a smash burger with American cheese, kimchi special sauce, house slaw, and black vinegar pickles. An odd combination, but arguably more delicious than the chicken! Overall, Bird & Bao definitely has some tasty and unique food to be proud of (so much so that The Grubfather on Instagram recently hit them up). Though some flavors fell short and perhaps didn't always connect for me, I still felt like most of them did which gave me a lot to love and a good reason to most definitely return if/when I'm looking for some quality bao. So if you find yourself exploring Patchogue some day, don't miss out on this little tasty storefront.

    Black Blackbird & Sweet Heat

I got the black bird & sweet heat bao they were amazing! So flavorful and well balanced. The fries and sauce were also great.

Amazing fresh food. Clean and modern! Great owner, took the time out to speak to me. Recommend this small business to the fullest. Try the Nashville and the s'more!! Amazing! If this place was on main street instead of S Ocean, it would be mobbed 24-7!

Crispy Brussels. S'mores bao, Nashville bao

Yessssssss. Bao bao bao! I got two bao, one dessert bao and a side of crispy brussels. Every bao made me do a little dance with the goodness and the brussels were perfectly crispy and were a large shareable side!! Ready to come back here ASAP!

    The Patchog--too salty
    Gail B.

This is the eatery that introduced me to Bao. I had the Blackbird (crispy chicken) and the Patchog (pork belly). The former was delicious; the latter, too salty. The price is right at $5.50 each. The Five Spice Fries were good, too, especially when dipped in the chili mayo, but McDonald's remains my #1 choice for fries. The creative menu at Bird and Bao lures Korean food lovers into this hole in the wall, located just off of Main St. in Patchogue. Parking is plentiful in an adjacent lot, where only Patchogue residents with window stickers can park for free. There is also street parking, which requires payment from everybody regardless of residency. Four stars go to Bird and Bao for their creative and tasty menu. The missing star is due to the much too salty Patchog Bao.

Are any of the chicken boas made with white meat?

No. Tradionally only dark meat is used for this type of fried chicken. We believe dark meat not only provides a juicy product but also a tastier piece of chicken.

Dark paneled, highly polished wood and Asian accent prices blend with low lighting, neon and the ambient pulsing of low-key club music. Our waiter was... stoic. Huggy feely was not on the menu apparently. But that was fine. He was prompt and attentive and that's all we really want when we head out. Fairly extensive menu with a lot of sushi-house standards as well as their own specialty rolls (which, I guess, is a pretty standard thing to do as well). We got the ceviche for an app which was very small and pretty basic. Also got the Crunchy Crunchy Crunchy which was more interesting. Soft, spicy tuna provided a nice counterbalance to the fried seaweed. Oyster Bay roll featured a thin slice of jalapeño on top of each piece with a dollop of spicy Mayo. Not really hot (then again, I tend to like napalm on my wings) but had a pleasant and persistent kick. We have ordered takeout as well. Their Thai options seem to be fairly done. They should get an award for the most over-the-top take out bags. Overall, a nice night out. Happy with the service, ambiance and, most importantly, the food. We'll be back!
