Shocked and disappointed to see the lunch specials do not come with a soup or egg roll, just fried rice. I've never experienced that in any Chinese Take Out before. She tried to get me to upgrade to the combination, which includes an egg roll. I ordered the chicken with string beans. Chicken was tender, sauce was on the bland side. Have been going here for 20 years. Never disappointed. Almost always get chicken and broccoli with black bean sauce (family favorite) along with a few other items. Food is always fresh and delicious. I won't lie, How How's is a childhood favorite! I've literally been coming for over 40 years! It's a small spot in an unfortunately dying plaza, but it's worth the stop! My order is always taken accurately and service is always with a smile (sorry, but customer service is big for me). I always order there wait 10 minutes and pick it up, the guy at the register is always the same very friendly, quick and gets my order right every time even when I am ordering for a large group. Everything we have ever gotten has been better than any other Chinese restaurant in the area. The food is done in a very timely fashion, we call, leave home and it's ready when we get there in 10-15 minutes. The egg rolls are perfectly crunchy and not at all greasy. They strive to prepare things exactly as you ask if you have any special requests. The portions are very generous and prices are very reasonable. The ribs are fabulous. Food is very tasty. Family run. Great hours. Ask the cashier to flip the coins when he gives you change- he's great at it. I love this place. The only thing I would say that they can improve upon is a more accurate time frame on when the food will be ready. I love this place. It's been a family favorite since I was a child...I am now 35 and cannot find a place that I like better. The staff is friendly, the wait is usually reasonable. I also want to share a story about them. A couple of years ago, it was the middle of a snow storm, and after a hard day of shoveling and being cooped up, we decided to venture across the street to How How. The roads were bad, and nothing around was open...when I pulled up, the lot was empty but the lights were on. I gratefully walked up, as the guy who's always behind the counter was locking the door; they were closing early due to the weather. I said "oh, you're closing, I'm sorry," and began to walk away. He said "no no, come in, come in!". I placed my order (which wasn't small) and they made it on the spot, and seemed happy to do so. I was so grateful to them for that. The food here is no good. If you know Chinese food at all, you'll know that this is NOT good Chinese food. Everything is bland with no distinctive taste to any of the dishes. Never in my life have I seen dumpling skins so thick and doughy. We ordered at least 5-6 dishes, and none of them were any good. It was our first time, and we waited a bit for our order. In the time we were there, no Asians came in to order food. Take that as a sign. I'm telling you, the food is not good. Even fast food chain, Panda Express, is better than this!! This is basically my cafeteria. I could not imagine how my life could proceed without How How kitchen at the Suffolk Plaza. As a poor medical student, I have to find a way to eat healthily and cost-efficiently. The hospital cafeteria helps me do that, but when I study at home, this becomes the cafeteria. I don't like to spend time shopping for groceries and cooking, so How How has been the default for dinner. They have a wide selection of the usual Chinese fast food dishes. As a Chinese-American who has been in the United States since 1st grade, I am perfectly fine with eating this kind of food daily even if it is not the most authentic Chinese food. I order the chicken and broccoli almost religiously. The Young Chow Fried Rice is pretty good too, even if it is nothing like the real thing, which I have had many times in China. My Korean friends rave about the hot and sour soup. The employees are nice and there is a brisk business going on here. read more
